[PP|F16] <<The Swashbuckling Buccaneer>> Aye Aye Cap'n!

Recommended Posts

As soon as Alkor slipped past Amir's defenses and managed to slam him, Chase grinned. This much damage would definitely pile up, and then he followed himself. A quick slash down at his feet and his sword's unique ability activated, managing to freeze the pirate right down onto the boat and keep him still. Then, he followed up with three or four slashes to the chest and arms, opening up slight wounds due on his skin and causing bleeding. One critical hit after the other, the pirate was definitely going to fall in less than no time. After him, they had to take care of the next Boatswain, and lastly the Captain.

All for a few NPCs that they saw in the middle of nowhere, that took them to the middle of nowhere, to kill some nobodies. Coolio, if it meant more SP to him. Plus, the only compensation that he got was in the form of relief when he remembered that since these were quest mobs, they never truly died. They would just respawn the next time somebody came over, and that just let him rest easy no matter what they did. In this case, Amir was getting absolutely brutalized by the both of them, and thankfully he was still, just an NPC- so much for being deemed dangerous by the both of them.

Frozen meant all but defenseless, and Alkor wasn't about to let that chance slip by. As his opponent rooted to the floorboards of the deck and struggled in vain to free himself, the wicked blade came once more.

Alkor brought the blade across in several successive strikes, tearing chunks of data away and leaving the crimson pixels to float skyward, freed from the floating castle.

Amir was as good as dead with their damage over time in place, let alone anything Chase might unleash up front. While they came prepared to do as much damage as possible as quickly as possible, Alkor had not realized how quickly his strength was growing on these quests.

It felt almost like he and Chase were at the cusp of another level- he wasn't about to say that, though. Alkor didn't want to sound overconfident.

It didn't take long after Alkor landed the final hit of his that the enemy was lowered to a sliver of his health. With that, he slammed the flat of his blade into Amir as soon as he broke out of the frozen ice, letting him fall back. Despite his zeroed out health bar, he tried to cry out for help and disappeared into shards, only for another Boatswain to show up from further behind in the deck as soon as he disappeared. Angered, she took hold of her own cutlass and prepared to engage into combat with them.

"If Amir was fast on his legs, this one must be more accurate. Keep an eye out and try to not get caught in any attacks please.", he gave a forewarning to Alkor and with a nod, turned all of his attention back to the new one. She didn't make a move quite yet, despite all of Chase's taunts using his hands or smug expression. "... She's also very careful. Keep an eye out- all of these pirates are stronger than anticipated."

This woman had the eye of a swordsman who struck true. A single glance in her direction revealed a stern eye that watched closely every single action he took. Unlike Amir, Jessamine seemed to have no interest in ducking or weaving out of the way of his strikes. Any opening she could seize to deal the most damage and take his life took precedence over preserving her own.

What made her so unnerving was that her mentality was exactly like his own. So, there were creatures lurking in Aincrad with that kind of killer instinct. The very thought made his skin crawl. He despised this game even more when he realized just how involved it was with the idea of killing him and everyone else around him.

So, he didnt hesitate to take advantage of any opening she left. She'd do him the same courtesy. They would bleed an arterial dance together until one of them was naught but a memory.

What Alkor probably didn't account for in his sheer state of focus was the fact that Chase was also present- it wasn't just a battle between him and the piratess, and that was one of the main reasons that she was about to fall. He quickly dashed forwards and followed up Alkor's attack with a strong slash, essentially cleaving her from the front- she was still alive, although with a large gash to boot and little damage on her opponents.

She tried to mend that final problem in her style, but she only failed when Chase moved to the side and skillfully dodged her attack, using the chains on his left hand to slam them against her cutlass and knock it off balance, almost out of her hands too. "Get her while she's still weak!", he called out to his partner and looked to the side, keeping the same serious expression from before.

Between Chase and Alkor's heavy hits, the two pirates stood precious little chance. Alkor's monstrous precision gave rise to the most violent, efficient hits. Chase's slower, albeit sturdier strikes did more impactful damage, but together they shaved away at the health bar of their opponent and kept it steadily running out, instead of up.

That was the job of DPS roles. Do more damage, more quickly than the enemy could manage to prevent or heal back. Kill them before they could kill the party. At the end of the day, no matter how solid your tank, no matter how skillful your healer, once the gas runs out the machine becomes useless.

Chase struck another world beating blow, and Alkor followed with another true strike of his own. He wasn't going to fall behind. He wasn't going to lose. He was only going to keep growing stronger.

In a Neverending back and forth between these two swordsmen, the pirates on this ship were just stepping stones along a longer, more narrow path than they could even imagine.

When he was about to strike Jessamine down and let her sleep with the fish, he saw her prepare a vicious attack of her own. She'd reared her boot to attack, much like Amir's kick from before- a special skill, by the looks of it. He quickly used his sword just to fend her off by scaring her, dodging to the side and clashing with her cutlass once he realized she'd feigned her skill. "Damn, they even know how to fake skills..?! We should be thankful only these monsters do that-"

And with a strong push against her blade with his own, the two slid away from one another, slight dust raising from the wood flooring their shoes and boots respectively creaked against. He'd wasted a turn, maybe getting hit didn't hurt so much, but better safe than sorry in any case. "Sorry. Let's finish it though.", he nodded at him once more and began to run back to her, just in case that Alkor hadn't dealt his fair share and offed her by the time he arrived. It was just a matter of seconds after all.

Alkor cut in between the instant where Chase and the Bostswain clashed, twisting his body through the gap between them and spinning round on a single knee. His body slid along the ground to the outside, narrowly avoiding the deadly stroke from Jessamine meant for Chase, but it left him with the perfect opening. While she centered all of her focus on him, she left Alkor to ply his deadly trade.

And the skulking reaper took his due. Alkor activated his Sword Art in the seconds where Jessamine was entirely exposed and rent through her pixelated flesh, sending tattered red cubes of data spiraling skyward.  He continued to shave away at the health bar with steady strikes until the pirate woman let out a pitiful wall and sank to her knees in defeat.

Beyond her, the real challenge awaited them, and Alkor took a ragged breath. The last two fights alone ran through his endurance like a hot knife through butter. Could he do it again, with a stronger enemy? Could they afford to rest a second time? He was already breathing fairly heavily.

Chase could see just how harsh the toll of this battle and how long they were taking was affecting Alkor, but they couldn't stop quite yet. The way things were going, he could probably take Burlock on with ease. The energy would last him, and all that Alkor could do was dish out one basic attack after the other- in hopes of blighting him. His damage wouldn't otherwise be enough to supplement the amounts they'd need to overcome his mitigation and still cut a fair chunk off.

When he was about to speak the plan out to Alkor, he heard a thud against the ground. Before he even had enough time to turn and look, Burlock had already made his way out onto the deck by the time that Jessamine had fallen, groaning and trying to block his attack- the captain however, slid his blade against Chase's and ended up slashing his shoulder with his poison-coated blade, getting a grunt out of him as he stepped back. His vision got a bit hazy, but it wasn't anything he couldn't shake off, despite how deep the gash was. "Fuck..! Alkor, keep to basics. Don't drain all your energy on damage, just blight the Captain. I'll chip his health down."

Chase was already locked in contact by the time Alkor caught his breath. Unfortunately, he didn't have the time to get up to speed before the Quartermaster had pinned the blue haired boy down and swept across the deck with him. In his frustration, Alkor hung back and watched for an opening. He didn't have the energy to just go firing off Sword Arts, and while his blade did have the capacity to inflict an unmitigated damage over time stack, it was unfavorable to rely on that.

He needed something sustainable, or this enemy was going to give them a real run for their money. Alkor took a deep breath and concentrated on the enemy, looking for any sign of weakness. Burlock had no quarter to give, it appeared.

No good, he thought as he watched the two dance across the deck. I need to cut in, but there's no good time for it...

While Alkor did his best to catch up with his breath, Chase continued to brawl it out with Burlock. This time, he made sure to be quick on his feet while the poison was still wearing out, not to get hit another time and to try slipping an attack through the captain's defenses. However, no good luck even there. The captain stayed just as steady on his own feet if anything, hopping left and right alongside the blueberry. One of his attacks with his venom coated blade was very close to hitting the evasion tank a second time, but he turned to the side just in time for it to slide and cut his overcoat slightly.

If the overcoat didn't regenerate back out of combat, he'd be pissed- thankfully Kayaba wasn't that sadistic however. He managed to land a hit only in the form of a parry, which was bad news. Why did of all the enemies, these pirates have to be the most competent so far in the entirety of Aincrad, putting aside some incredibly gruelling dungeons?!

It was far from the most graceful of attacks. It wasn't powerful, it held no kind of gravitas; but when Chase backed the Quartermaster across the deck toward Alkor, he seized the opportunity.

A quick, meaningful slice across the man's Achilles tendon.

It hardly seemed to phase the mob, who's leather boots chewed up and spit out the pitiful, unenthused stroke. But there was a significance to it.

Alkor had drawn first blood. The single tick from the red bar was a landmark in this battle, and the ominous black and green infection came into view, the DPSer smirked.

Luck might be changing for the better with that one, he allowed himself to see a glimmer of hope.

Perhaps Chase might share in that sentiment. He didn't wait for the man to capitalize as he sprang back into motion, at the ready to see the tank's signal and jump for it.

Chase and Alkor had this down to a science now.

Finally, a blight was all that it took from Alkor's side to get the captain down and onto the ground for two seconds. That was all the openings that Chase needed to strike him down once, too. His strike hit hard and fast to the already crippled legs of the poor sap, freezing him in place and causing him to bleed on top of the sickness he contracted out of Alkor's wicked blade. Whatever the case with his companion, strong or not, that was quite a unique weapon he was sporting.

"We got him once- a few more times!", he almost barked out in excitement, beginning to get into his adrenaline rush which was... for the best and worst, if seen objectively. For now, it didn't work negatively any whatsoever. He was fully exhillerated and knew exactly how to move, where to look for and what spots to attack in order to take down their opponent. if this fight dragged on too long and took a turn for the worst though, that would truly start meaning trouble.

At least the blow struck.

The Quartermaster only seemed to get slower from his impairments, which in turn made it easier for Alkor to get in another strike. Unfortunately for the duo, Alkor's strikes alone were hardly effective against the much more seasoned NPC, who in spite of his ailments still took next to nothing from the slash.

That was fine, though.

Alkor wasn't interested in dealing crazy amounts of damage right now. Right now, he was focused on survival, and while every hit did count, it was important that they also made sure every hit against them counted less. Burlock was a monster, the likes of which this pair had yet to face down. Bosses were one type of juggernaut: this mob was just a basic quest chain ending.

That certainly threatened to tank morale.

They had this, though. Alkor knew they would see it through, and they had already managed to bring the beast of a man to nearly half of his health. Unless something truly catastrophic happened, the odds were in their favor.

Although nothing as catastrophic as Alkor thought might happen did, at least yet, the captain and Chase began to exchange attacks. Their swords clashed against one another more and more and more, but every clash was followed by sparks and another desperate attempt at damaging their opponents. Neither side ever struck a single hit, instead being both sent back sliding on the wooden ship's floor. "Why does this guy have to be so fast?! Damn it.", he cussed under his breath and looked back at Alkor.

This wasn't him being useless or Alkor not being able to do the same as Chase- this was a very skilled opponent instead continuing to get in their way after so many more had shown up before. The ironman training every beast of a pirate on this cursed ship had gone through was starting to get truly frustrating, to the point that landing even a single hit felt like reaching a step closer to god status.

They really were just grinding to a stalemate.

Chase was able to keep the Quartermaster on his toes, but Alkor was barely able to land a solid hit. The blows he did strike were ephemeral, and the red marks they left behind dissipated within seconds of the whirlwind of action moving away.

He decided to keep moving, to stay in time with the movements of Chase and look for another big opening. While the attack itself couldn't actually do much, Alkor could still count on Blightsteel to bite away chunks of the man's health through other means.

Already, the sinister Blight debuff had eaten away an unhealthy amount of the mob's HP, and that didn't even amount for the work Chase was doing. Together, they were doing it.

It was slow, certainly...

But they weren't dead. That was key.

"It's frustrating, but we have to keep going," he huffed as he matched their pace and kept himself behind Burlock.

"Frustrating or not it doesn't matter. This guy just won't sit still for once.", he grunted and raised his sword, ready to bring down another sword art onto the captain. Realizing that wouldn't work though, he instead brought down the sword all the same- but to the floor. He stabbed it right through the wooden floor and saw the ice spreading out in small veins towards Burlock, only to encase his feet. That was his window. He quickly pulled the sword back out and approached, slashing right at him.

With a cut diagonally across the chest, the man was now beginning to falter as a bleeding gash appeared again. Blood wasn't in the game, but so much for a damage over time effect, that could even make inanimate objects bleed... "One more hit should do!", he announced to Alkor, seeing his health drop. This was a sure sign that the fight would slowly come to an end, and they could go back to questing in more interesting and less monotonous settings.

And there it was!

The opening he needed. When the freezing hit took effect and Burlock reeled away from it, Alkor lunged from behind and grappled him. It was a shaky mess because the Quartermaster fought him off until the ice floes fully entrapped him, but in the end, Alkor raked the virulent green and black blade across the throat of his victim.

A thin red line appeared where his stroke fell, and though it appeared to be merely an exercise in futility, the Blight set in. His throat twisted and contorted into a necrotic, nightmarish version of its former self and the debuff seemed only to spread from that point.

It was the beginning of the end for the Quartermaster, and his body falling apart and scattering to ashes and ruin would be the highlight of this conflict.

While Alkor afflicted the captain with blight and kept him busy from trying to fend the black-haired man off, Chase prepared a sword art and started to run right towards him. By the time Alkor was off of him, Chase was right in front and delivered one more attack. The man's torso was quickly encased in ice and if that hadn't done it, the slashes alongside with both bleed and blight debuffs from the swordsmen was enough to knock him back into Cardinal's recycling bin.

As the captain shattered, Chase just huffed and wiped some sweat from the top of his forehead. This was quite the workout and a complete mess- way more effort than it was worth in his opinion, but he couldn't complain. He was getting stronger and Alkor was too at the same time. More frontliners was never a bad result, especially for somebody like him who'd ached so much to get where he was. "Fucking finally. We're done here, let's skidaddle."

Thank god.

Alkor let out a heavy sigh and sank to his haunches on the deck. His breathing hadn't run out entirely, but he felt the effects of a nearly depleted energy bar in the same way someone who ran out of stamina during a race might experience fatigue. His muscles weren't sore so much as his body felt heavy and his eyelids were drooping. He wanted to go somewhere and lie down. He was almost tempted to do so right there, on the spot.

His weapon clattered to the deck beside him, albeit never far enough away that he couldn't get a hand on it. He gasped and finally gulped down a large breath that gave him a bit more presence of mind, then he laughed. "No time even to celebrate, huh?" Alkor rasped. There was a time when he was exactly the same, in a hurry to get to the next fight and disinterested in any type of merrymaking. Aincrad was a prison and nothing it offered would satisfy him.

The times, they had changed. One season passed for Alkor, and perhaps for Chase, he'd only just entered it. Their lives were like that. Ever changing, never really constant, but inevitable in their own, dysfunctionally beautiful way.

"Alright, I'm coming."
