Requirements:

  • Talk with Issela in Flora.
  • Roleplay travelling to the fort and getting captured by the pitfall trap along the way. (3+ posts)
  • Work your way through the fort, defeating six regular bandits and then the leader. (Enemies can be fought one at a time or in parties, not exceeding four mobs at a time. Rests may be taken between fights to replenish HP and EN. This works for Kagamine as well, who possesses standard T2 out-of-combat healing.)
  • Return the teenager to his mother in Flora.

Summary:

The peaceful town of Flora is located underneath the canopy of the forest of Floor Three, and has been plagued by a nasty predicament.  They need help. The Faultwarren Bandits have begun terrorizing the town, stealing from shops and breaking into homes. While wandering through Flora's cramped streets, you hear a Fae woman calling out to you. She pleads that bandits have kidnapped her son and are holding him for a ransom. They are asking for much more than she has to give however, leaving her to beg strangers for help.

Agreeing to help, she provides you with the instructions she was given to hand over the ransom.  Making your way towards that location in the Forest of the Wavering Mists, you fall prey to one of the bandit's traps near the fort where they’ve made their home. A hole in the ground opens beneath you, putting you in a celled room, trapped. In another cell across from yours, you find the boy you were sent to rescue.  Through strange coincidence, all that remains is to make your escape.

Outline: 

After accepting the quest, you will head towards Faultwarren Fort where the bandits main encampment resides. Here they have locked up Kagamine, Issela's son. Just as you spot and approaching the fort, a pitfall trap opens beneath you.  Suddenly, you are just as trapped as the person you set out to save. Put your brain and brawn together to make it out of the stone fort alive.

Kagamine will fight with you on your way through the fort. You can instruct him to use certain weapons if it means he makes it out alive. Giving him a one handed weapon and a shield or a two handed weapon will change his stats. He can also be instructed not to fight at all, which will keep him safe through the entire quest.

If Kagamine is defeated, he is knocked out. The player is instantly ejected from the fort and must retry the quest.

The player returns to Flora with Kagamine in tow. Reuniting him with his distraught mother.  Though unable to pay the ransom that had been set, Issela gives the player the amount she had managed to scrape together in her efforts, grateful that he has been returned to her safe and sound.

Note: If Kagamine is brought to zero HP, he will fall and the quest fails.  The player is instantly teleported to the beginning of the quest where they must retake the quest from the beginning. The NPCs will not recognize you if you undertake the quest from a restart.

“Come and get it, the freshest fruits and cuts of meat in town.” A fat butcher announced outside an establishment. He was among the many salespeople that littered these streets trying to create business.

 

Randal was enjoying his time strolling around the streets of one of the NPC filled towns of Flora when he heard the sounds of either a quest or a player crying, both of which were common occurrences no matter where one went. Randal was never one to say no to listening about a quest, information is key. The person crying turned out to be a Fae woman, the Faes are rumored to have magical powers or superhuman-abilities but that part of their lore was not implemented into SAO.

“How can I help you m’am?” Randal posed as a question to her.

 

She looked up at him and his equipment and started to beg for his help. “My son has been kidnapped by the Faultwarren Bandits.” She lamented.

 

Randal looked at her quizzically, “Who are they and where can I find them?”

“They have made camp outside of the village near the Forest of the Wavering Mists. I do not have much to reward you for your kind returm but if you speak to some of the town guards they may offer a reward for the capture of the bandits as they have been plaguing this town for quite some time now.” She said.

Randal learned her name and bode farewell to Issela and went to speak to the town guards.

When Randal reached the barracks in the small town of Flora, there were not many guards on shift, it would appear that being a guard was too dangerous for many in Flora who would rather become a merchant instead.

Randal asked for someone who could direct him to the nearby county boards and when he got there, he did not see any requests for the Faultwarren bandits. There were only the requests for the usual monster culling or boss sighting explorations. Randal seemed confused at this development for is there was even child kidnapping this was a serious incident.

Nonetheless, Randal made his way to the named Forest to see if there was anything he could do to find the Bandits without any help. Randal spotted a large concrete fortress right in the middle of a moat and as his steps drew closer, the ground opened up and became a trap, he fell into the hole.

Fortunately, Randal’s fall was not broken by a hard concrete floor but instead the pitfall trapped snaked and turned in all manner of ways until Randal was flushed out into a room with no discernible door or window, only a candle lit up one side of the room. A young boy tried to tackle Randal to the ground but was easily sidestepped.

Randal was about to strike back when he realised that his quest objective had changed from “Find Issela’s boy and bring him home” to “Rescue Kagamine from the Faultwarren Bandits.”. Putting two and two together, Randal discovered that he waws 50 percent done with the quest and just needed to find a way out while keeping the Kagamine safe.

Just to be sure,, Randal asked the young boy. “Hold on hold on, I am not here  to hurt you, my name is Randal, I am here to find Kagamine and get him back from the Bandits that run the fort that I saw above. Would that be you?”.

“Yea, my name is Kagamine, did Issela send you? Damn it, if I was not wounded I would have already been out of here.” A voice much brasher than his appearance sounded out. It was apparent that they relationship was not as suggested. “I will go with you if you think you can get out of here but there’s one thing I need from you, there are a bunch of children somewhere here that are being held captive for salve trading if their ransom fails to pay up, we need to help them, if not I refuse to leave.”

Randal sucked in deep, the faultwarren bandits were worse than expected, not only did they kidnap children, they even sold them to others. If one had the money to pay the ransom then it would all be fine but how many can afford it.

 

It did not take any convincing at all and Randal was onboard with the plan. It would appear that since there are still no guards coming to check on Kagamine that they have yet to uncover the fact that their pitfall trap had been activated. Randal broke the lock to the jail cell and the commotion caused two guards to rush into the room. Kagamine clutched at his side and stayed back, only leaving to block the door when the coast was clear. It was up to Randal to defeat the guards and get them out of there. All three of them stood still and tried to test the waters with a  few simple swipes but nothing landed.

Randal was weaving and bobbing against his human enemies, they were much easier to deal with than other monsters that can be found all over the floors. They followed the logic of humans and reacted the way that Randal expected them to. It was fortunate as Randal’s claws continued to spin around and slash at either of the bandits that made the mistake of coming too close. There was not much space to manouvere when looking at the cramped corridor outside the jail cell for the fight to happen in. After getting hit once or twice, the Bandits were forced into the jail cell, but Randal did not have the key to lock the door and even if he did, he had already punched out the locking mechanism so that did not matter. Inside there was slightly more spaces to move for both the bandits and Randal. Randal reached out for the candle lamp in the corner of the room and held it towards the bandits.

The burning candle was hot, and the two bandits reacted to avoid the flame that threatened to set them ablaze. Randal was able to take the time he bought with the fire to consider that no other guards other these two had entered after Kagamine started blocking the door and also noticing how Kagamine was not having a hard time at the door gave Randal the feeling that they were in a pretty isolated and unvisited part of the fort. Despite this knowledge, there was no reason for Randal to make much noise, he only had to remove these two bandit from the equation. It was not easy fending off the both of them at once. They were not bad by any means, any one of their attacks could take out a quarter of Randal’s total HP bar. The only thing they lacked to win the fight was speed, there were generally not fast enough to land even a single hit on Randal.

Thinking that he had the battle in the bag, Randal started to dance around the opponents easily juking any attempts that they made to subdue him, eventually the candle fell off the edge of the candle holder that Randal was wielding against the bandits and one of the pieces of cloth that was meant to be used as a bedspread for whichever unfortunate soul fell though the pit trap.

Even though Randal was landing some hits here and there, he did not manage to do any real damage to the bandit because they were covered by armour that protected them against any attacks that were not made with proper force. This forced the battle to drag on longer than it really needed to, Kagamine was peeking outside the door to warn the Randal if there were any reinforcements on the way. Luckily for them, no one seemed to be on their way. The fort must be very heavily understaffed.

Eventually, Randal saw that one of his stronger sword arts was about to come off cooldown, he dodged and parried the blows that were coming by glancing the dull parts of their weapons off his claws. He slowly made his way inch by inch out of the space of the cell and watched as the Bandits followed after him to try and attack him. Once he had them in a nice, confined space, lined up for his next attack Randal pushed all the force he had through his leg and into the stomach of the first bandit that followed after him. This causes the bandit to lurch forward and propelled him towards the back end of the wall. The other bandit was caught up in the force and was used as a cushion for the first bandit but took the full brunt of the impact damage spreading the damage between the two enemies and successfully knocking them unconscious.

The two bandits were slumped in the corner for a brief moment before digitalising and shattering into a few pieces. Randal checked for loot and did not find anything, he then headed towards Kagamine and took the lead from him.

“So how did you get caught up here?” Randal asked Kagamine curiously. It was pretty apparent that the relationship between Kagamine and Issela was more than siblings and that he was not being held here for a ransom but instead for some other purposes and to some extent even by choice.

“It’s a long story, and I’m not allowed to tell you the details of my operation, but I can say that I was supposed to do something in the fort and was caught trying to help the orphans escape, the leader left me in the jail to question me later, I’m thankful that Issela sent someone to get me.” Kagamine said, with a pause at the end like there was more than he wanted to say.

Have you ever heard of the Crimson Parrade?  They are a group of people who are dedicated to restoring justice into places that have gone overlooked by regulations, where innocent people are suffering without hope of respite. We aer doing something similar here, there’s creetain scum in these places that need to be removed and I was supposed to do it, but I was distracted by the children.” Kagamine said

Upon hearing some voices further down the corridor that they were travelling to, Randal and Kagamine ducked into one of the open rooms. Kagamine pushed his ear next to the door and silenced  himself, waiting for the voices to move past the room.

Randal took the opportunity to look around and to find out more about the place. There were book strewn all over the place In this room. When read, it revealed a ledger of transactions that the Faultwarren Banits have partook in recently.

“Kagamine, if you are who you say you are, you are going to want to see this.” Randal said while holding up a book. Inside, they were pricy to the dates and clients that the Faultwarren Bandits were selling too, they had all sorts of information found inside, they were transporters of weapons, drugs, and children. The ledger would be useful, and upon further review, Randal and Kagamine were fortunate enough to discover that the children were going to be sent out of the castle today.

Kagamine looked at Randal and received a nod of approval, the operation to rescue the children was now in motion. They were still a little lost in the castle but now had a renewed purpose to prevent the children from being sent away. Hiding around the corner, they took out one of the sentries and questioned him. They learned the directions to get to the location of the pickup and hurriedly made their way there.

They spied that the carriages had yet to leave the forest and lurked for a few moments.

As they were staking out the carriages, there was a commotion by the gate. A long drawbridge was slowly lowered down across the moat and small children with their hands and legsshackled to each other were led in a single file towards the back of the carriage, now we would have to make our move.

“Kagamine, you are injured so stay out of this fight and let me handle it. I’ll take out the two guards that are protecting them, can you handle the butler and free the children?” Randal asked, the reply came swiftly and the two of them moved out to attack the bandits. Kagamine went the long way around to go undetected while Randal came from the drawbridge side, shouting to get their attention. Randal looked at the Bandits and asked them, “Are you selling children? Why don’t you come and try to do so while I am in your way.”

Soon, the two parties clashed after Randal’s provocation had angered them. Randal and the bandits tussled over the drawbridge and Randal was not moving as well as he had been before, allowing one of the Bandits to take a good portion of his health down. He was not hit very often which often made him conceited over his own strength and left him surprised pikachu face when their attacks do land and deal a lot of damage.

Not so far in the distance, Kagamine was already working on the butler and had successfully sneaked up close to him and managed to knock him unconscious by strangulation. The children were frightened by what was happening but where all soothed by Kagamine saying that they were here to help and free them. Kagamine unlocked all their chains and and one or two of them immediately ran off while the rest stayed after an elder sister looking child prevented them from following suit.

Seeing as how the situation had resolved itself over on the carriage side of things, Randal quickly wiped the floor with both the bandits using his claw skills to eviscerate and slash at their weak spots all the while running around them avoiding all of their attacks. The only concern was the damage that they managed to do to Randal along the way. Luckily, they had already achieved their aim of saving the children and could finally get out of this forest and return Kagamine to his “Mother” resolving the questline.

Randal was so ready to get a nice warm bed to sleep in after this whole ordeal, the slide down the pitfall trap was dirty and gross and there was no chance of properly cleaning himself. Randal walked over to Kagamine with long slow happy steps, and simply had all his hopes dashed as soon as Kagamine asked him to go into the forest and find the kids that had run off to make sure nothing happened to them and bring them back.

“Why don’t we all go together?” Randal asked to which Kagamine replied. “There are too many dangers in these woods at night, we are better off waiting for the day to come before setting out, you are the strongest here and can probably find them the fastest.” Randal sighed and agreed. Taking a look at his options, Randal began tracking the small and light footsteps of the children that ran away, fortunately, there was only two of them.

“We are going to find a place to hide over by the stables for now, come find us when you get them or if there cannot join us again.” Kagamine mentioned before Randal took his leave.

Randal started to comb the Forest of Wavering Mists for the children, taking extra care and precaution to avoid any traps that the Bandits might have laid along the way like the pitfall trap that got him earlier that day. This time the trap might not be so forgiving and be a spike trap.

Randal pursed the trail of the children until he reached a really big tree in the forest where the fog got very thick. The trail followed into a hole at the bottom of the tree.  Peeking in Randal managed to grab hold of one of the two children before the other ran away but didn’t get very far as she slowed down when she realised that Randal was not doing anything bad to them.

“Do you want to get out of this spooky forest? Let us go.” Randal said a tone which was as friendly as he could muster after running through a forest for to small kids.

The little girl nodded and followed some distance from Randal while Randal held the other child’s hand. They made their way back from the forest, but not without a few complications. Along the way there were some injuries that needed to be explained.

After a few minutes, it was clear that Randal had not been the only creature that was stalking the two children. A pair of wolves appeared during the journey forcing Randal to put the two kids behind him an up a tree. This gave Randal the space and peace of mind to remove the threats immediately. Along the way, one the children sprained her leg or ankle while running an had to be lifted up by Randal anyway. Just likethis they walked slowly and carefully through the forest. The two children attempted to struggle away from Randal when they say the visage of the castle once more and only calmed down when Randal proved that he was not one of the bad guys that captured them, but randal had no proof of this, so he just held on tightly and walked into the stable, telling them that if they didn’t believe, they still should make as little noise as possible to attract less attention less a meaner guard was attracted after hearing their noises.

As Randal quickly approached the stables where Kagamine said they would be, he was almost ambushed by Kagamine’s army of little soldiers. It appears that in their attempts to defend their last stand point, they had barricaded the stables. Fortunately, no one had discovered them yet, and they were still free to carry out what ever reconstruction made them feel the safest. Ranadl walked up to Kagamine and deposited the two children who had ceased their struggling with them. They quickly got caught up to speed and sigh a big breath of relief. Randal looked at Kagamine for the update and was pulled aside by Kagamine.

“There’s actually one more thing that we have to do tonight, we have to prevent the Faultwarren bandits from staying in this area and creating more problems for the people that live around the area. We must take care of the bandit leader.” Kagamine said.

Of course, that was not what Randal wanted to hear, he could only wish that Kagamine had said, alright let us call it a night and we can go back in the morning. Nonetheless, deep down he knew that what Kagamine said was right, he did need to get rid of the Bandit Leader once and for all, so as assure the safety of the nearby towns and villages and protect the future of these children. Otherwise, there was no guarantee that what had happened to them once would not happen again. There is even a chance that the leader knew exactly who these children are and where they would go, sending out parties of men to eliminate them or recapture them. Randal agreed to move against the bandit leader, but he also made sure to get verbal agreement from Kagamine that once they were done with this, he would not ask Randal to do anything else.

Kagamine smiled a great smile and simpered at Randal. Randal had transcended all of Kagamine’s expectations of what he would do. There was a chance that Randal was going to knock him out and force him to go back to town without a say in the matter, after all, Kagamine was injured and unable to do much against him.

Fortunately for him, Randal did not know that attacking Kagamine was an option, though there was a chance that Randal would not do that anyway.

Randal even volunteered to go after the children and save them when he did not need to, venturing into the forest at night was also a dangerous thing, but he once again agreed. Even if Kagamine forced the issue, Randal did not really put up much of a fight.

Knowing this did not change much however, the night was halfway done and Randal still had one more challenge to undergo.

Randal followed Kagamine’s instruction, to go back into the castle and up the main stairs in the hallway to find the bandit leader on the 3rd floor in the master bedroom. The inside of the castle and above the underground floor looked studded with decorations. The bandit leader lived less like an outlaw and more like a bandit because more normal adventurers could not venture too close to the foreset least they loos their lives, not only to the traps but also to the wild beasts that live in the forest. There were many who tried and failed. This time, Randal would not be one of them. He slowly crept his way up the stairs and turned to face the leader’s room. He creaked open the door and slowly made his way inside. To his surprise, the leader was not in bed sleeping even though it must have been late at night. Clearly he must have noticed something was wrong and went to check on it.
