[PP-F26] What Is Truth From A Traitor? (Feat. Macradon)

What Is Truth From A Traitor?

Following the scouting mission into the 26th floor, the hunter had come to realize a few things.  One of which was his vastly lacking job as a scout.  Visiting a floor that he had never once visited, and proclaiming to everyone that they needed to hasten their search for the labyrinth?  What a fucking joke he must have been to everyone that actually searched that floor before they did.  NIGHT, whom seemed to have some knowledge of the floor, didn't know much about the front, but her expectations must have been sunken to the depths by how unprepared the lot of them were, information wise.  They had to talk to kids, for Lunala's sake!  Kids!  What were they really going to get out of that!?  These thoughts made the hunter question his every move that night.

He was moving into a small backroom behind Baldur's dojo, lent to him by the samurai himself.  It was a small space, only a few tatami mats in size, as Baldur told him.  It was Crozeph's old room, and it was only collecting non-existant dust.  This would be adequate to his needs, until some time that he could buy his own home to settle in.  He didn't want to intrude on Baldur's life, including the fact that Calrex and possibly Teayre, but he did not want to snoop around.  Instead, Hirru wanted to continue working on regaining trust between the front lines, and one of the big ones would be Macradon.

The second thing that he realized was Macradon's outward feelings towards him, which was not so good.  In fact, they were probably worse than he initially thought.  Hirru knew that the templar would not be so keen on him, but it wasn't until they actually met that he saw how badly the hunter was seen within his old guildmate's eyes.  They didn't talk too much between each other, but the look was enough.  There was rage behind those eyes that didn't surface into Mac's emotions, but the hunter could see it after the initial emotionless response.  If he ever wanted to get through to everyone, Macradon would be his biggest obstacle, minus a certain orange player.

Hirru awoke the next day, and scrambled his gear together.  He would have to kill two birds with one stone, for this to work.  Taking the teleporter, he teleported to the 26th floor and looked upon the morning commute of merchants and peasantry as they roamed the streets.  His next action, would be to send a message to Macradon, and hoped that he would come; angry or not.

Good Morning!

I hope I'm not waking you up.  I want to talk while looking into farming prospects within the 26th floor.  We found the floor boss, but there is still much more to find.  Meet me on the 26th floor, outside the teleportation portal.

Macradon was about to open up shop and get the furnaces blazing for his apprentice to work and gain greater experience, the knight had spent a lot of resources trying to get Alec up to speed with hos a grandmaster blacksmith was working, and having someone else be able to craft certified equipment while the owner was out was a lucrative deal for his apprentice. Macradon got into his dirty old workshop clothes and began cleaning up the front of his shoppe while the furnaces were heating up and as he would walk around the streets in front of his shop to clear it of any litter, Macradon overheard a few players that had strafed by

“I hear that’s the shop Macradon owns.”
“No fucking way dude, it’s Alec’s shop.”
“No, I swear! I hear so many people say it’s Macradon’s shop.”
“Macradon doesn’t even exist, he’s a myth, stop trying to persuade people into believing your conspiracy.”

Macradon could only listen in silence and awe of what people had begun to think about him. It wasn’t the first time people didn’t believe that he indeed was Macradon, for some reason his outward appearance has been too much for some to believe that he even exists … and it confused him to an even greater extent when he had been stationed on the first floor in the town of beginnings for a long time handing out equipment to players, be it beginners and veterans.

Macradon would shrug it off, might just be a very elaborate psychological prank someone had orchestrated. Nonetheless, Macradon would clean up the streets and at the gates of his estate before a message would appear on his HUD “Who could that be?” he thought to himself and opened it up only to be disappointed by the sender. His first instinct was to close down the message in a hurry, but it didn’t solve anything. Everyone he had a beef with he never got to quench the flames of, they all died before he could reconcile, so why not for the first time actually engage.

He sent off a short reply, still unsure how to act and equipped his battle regalia, you could never be too safe in a slum floor like the 26th.

Ok.

Macradon would make sure all of his armour was fitted properly before he would teleport up through the warp plaza and trigger his teleportation up to the 26th floor. He stepped out of the circular plaza center as the light turquoise spat him out from the first floor. His battle regalia made him stand out like a sore thumb, dark steel plating with bright white contrasting support plates over them, bold colours clashing with the dull slums, a cold misty aura laying a tiny layer of frost in his vicinity, Macradon was a looming beast that could be set free at any point, but the knight's composure would stay stoic for the time being.

A low wind seem to blow through the Aquilainean Bazaar, as the blue light of the teleporting in the Concordance Commons rang out the arrival of another player.  There were not that many that would visit this floor, as the news of its structure made some disinterested, while others that did would be seen mostly in the bazaar, or the Ladonian Skyport, where large flying ships would take people to other parts of the city.  Throughout all of those players, the hunter looked out for one thing in particular.  One person that he had once called a sword-brother, and still did.  One person that he thought he could trust in a dire time, but Hirru threw away that trust, it seemed.

That one person was now standing outside of the teleportation portal.  Although some things have changed about his look, it did not change the stern look upon his face.  The looming threat was upon the hunter as he was now about to face his greatest opponent yet.  His mind was made up, but his feet seemed to steel themselves.  They didn't want to move.  Why?  Wasn't this person once a friend?  Didn't they want to reconcile, and try to regain the trust of the one that was now searching out into the slowly accumulating crowds?  There was much that was on the hunter's mind, ..

Suddenly, his mind was clear.  Static in his mind seemed to lapse over the crucial thoughts.  All that came over him was a single word.

'Apologize'

Not too long after, the hunter could be waving down that man, to which he wished to apologize to the most, out of everyone that lived on this god forsaken castle.  This man that Hirru threw all of their time together out the window, just to do something that was incredibly stupid to everyone else, but to the hunter, it was a moral obligation.

"Macradon!  Thank you for coming."

The lingering effects of the transportation finally let go and dropped its lightening effect on all of Macradon's currently equipped possessions, letting his armour clang together as it set itself onto the knight again. His cape would waft lightly in the wind but would like the armour settle on the back of the knight. He stretched his body slightly from side to side to make sure he didn't need to readjust his armour after the teleportation and with a quick nod at himself, he was ready to venture out, which he in turn actually didn't need to, the Jade Hunter was already present there in the bazaar, waiting for the knight's arrival. He looked over at the voice calling out to him and with a quick stern nod Macradon would return the greeting "Hirru."

He wasn't too fond of the sudden callout, since anything that would've need to be said could've been done through other settings than this, so there had to be some reason that wasn't just talking they had to do on this floor. Like the floor before it, everything was a danger zone, nothing was particularly safe, no one were safe here, everyone could attack at any moment, everyone could be an enemy. Macradon scoured the crowds around him and didn't really seem to find anything that was a clear threat which lead him to somewhat lower his guard, letting go of a bit of tension in his body. "Why have you called me here? What do you need my aide for?" he inquired of the Jade Hunter. "I surely hope it's not some idle chit chat you wanted up here. Have you found anything that could help us gain an upper hand at the raid?" he asked, knowing that Hirru was a skilled scout ... at least he used to be ... hoping he had been snooping around and needed help for something going on.

As stern as ever, which made the hunter that more eager to work through this.  He preferred the old Mac that he could joke around with and perform funny combination attacks with, but the hunter understood that those days were gone.  If that day were to ever come, it would be a long and rough journey that would test the hunter at every given point.  He was willing to do all of that, because it was all his fault that it happened to begin with.  It was his responsibility to take the burden now.

While waiting for Mac to reach him, the hunter would have observed the towns people and merchants around the area.  Not many really gave much information, but there were some people that he had not seen during their initial search.  These people were in heavily tattered rags, and seemed to be treated like trash.  He heard them being called Galtean.  It seemed that these guys were from another country entirely, from what people seemed to gossip over while one was beaten by a few guards.  Those thoughts with what NIGHT talked about during the meeting seemed to bring up how the Ladonians have unusual technology.  Hirru seemed to slightly understand that this meant that there were things that he wouldn't understand, and would require someone else to help interpret.  He wished he could bring Baldur, but he had to work with Mac on something, anything.

"I'll need your help with something near the slums, near where we found the labyrinth.  There is a corridor that leads out to another area.  I'm mostly going off of the information that NIGHT provided to us, and what to look out for.  Technology that surpasses our expectations.  The people around here are heavily tight lipped.  It seems this Inquisition that those children were afraid of, if you remember, is a very prevalent thing.  Those that speak about it will earn their eyes upon you.  So, we're going to work with these Galtean refuges, or slaves.  Whatever the word was, but we will probably have to work around some corrupt individuals and Galtean's that don't want to talk."

He mostly gave a small detail about it, but wanted that to serve a purpose.  These inquisitors were certainly going to find them, if the towns people were right on this.  However, that was his secondary goal, his first was to investigate these Galtean.  If they were refuges, then there may be information that they could provide.

"Frankly, we're going to stir up trouble, but it won't work with only myself.  Are you in?  If not this, then I'm sure we can call a few friends and handle the boss, for a little bit of information."

A little cheeky grin would pop up at the last part, but it faded just as quickly.  Now wasn't the time to be chummy.

Macradon would raise an eyebrow, Hirru did indeed have something for them to work on, which was a nice twist. The knight nodded his head in acknowledgement and revised his current allocation of equipment. He went through his long list of useful items and concluded that his current attire would be outlandish enough to not be seen as a high-brow threat, but also not too militaristic to seem like anything else than someone making a quick pit stop at the town. “Refugees, slaves, immigrants. Quite the people we have to work with, but I guess if this fancy technology is some heavily guarded intelligence, I guess the easiest way is through the bottom instead of the top.” he said, agreeing with the sentiment of having to stir up a ruckus. “Sure, let’s head out” Macradon replied and would try to look around him “I don’t know where we should head, is there some kind of ghetto of Galteans we can find, or do we have to go around and find hotspots?” he inquired.

That was the difficult part of it.  He had seen the other entrance, but he did not look down it.  He only knew that there were quite a few of those yellow armbands coming from and going to that exit of the slums.  If anything, it was going to be a problem to get there without being spotted.  The both of them stood out far too much, even with the multitude of mercenaries and guards that roamed the streets, the two players were much better equipped and well off than some of the others around.  Hirru would doubt that they could work around any of the nobility, especially from Crozeph's little stunt during their scouting mission.

"A ghetto?"

The work escaped the hunter's vocabulary, as it was not the same as any of the lingo he had heard before.  He determined that it was probably something to do with lower branched, or slaves, like what he had seen earlier.

"That could work, though, yeah.  We'll have to find it.  There was a corridor back in the slums, where I saw a few of the Galteans going towards, or that's what I can determine from all of the arm bands that were prominent around the area.  Unfortunately, I can't track anything or anyone, but our search should still be effective.  Just need to get closer to them."

The hunter said before stretching a bit before heading off towards where they first found the slums.

Macradon nodded, the wording probably wasn't as kind as he wanted it to have been, but with the current setting, that was probably a better word to describe the conditions. He added to his description "A general gathering/living area predominated by a minority in the wider scope. Since these Galteans are held at lower regards, they might have their own living areas from everyone else, or they might just be locked up in a big mosh pit. I'd like to find out either way." and went on with what Hirru noted about the slums "Alright then, let's head out and get closer." Macradon said and began walking in a stern stride. With every step his armour clang, with every step his intimidating presence would keep the people in the streets out of his way. He would at some moment scour out towards the civilians, trying to indent his presence and character into the NPCs roaming throughout.

The would continue his stride for a good while, trying to locate the slums again to look for the Galtean population, the repressed minority. With twists and turns through the alleyways, Macradon finally reached the slums, he felt the stench hit him like a huge wall, like a zone barrier in a game. If SAO wasn’t as widely made this would’ve probably been a loading zone to a poisonous area. “This was the slum area you thought of, right? A corridor then …” Macradon pondered and wandered around.

They didn't take long to reach the slums area that NIGHT had found during their labyrinth search.  It was an unfortunate state that this place seemed to be in.  The buildings seemed to be ramshackle huts and tents that seemed to cut along sewer lines.  Some bridges seemed to be slapped together with ticky tacky, or what not.  Hirru couldn't tell much, but these people were suffering in nearly the same way as the Galteans, except that they had a chance to get out of it, maybe.  The Galtean Refuges wouldn't be able to do that ever.

Hirru spied two people sporting those yellow bands, signifying their nationality to everyone around.  They seemed to be escorted by two men.  They didn't exactly look like authority figures, but then again, who could tell.  He would look back to the platinum warrior that stood close by.  They seemed to be going towards a specific sewer line.  A few others with bands were also coming out of that same area, with their own escorts.  That must have been the corridor that he glanced when they were rushing to the boss room.

He pointed down the way for Mac.

"Down there.  We can probably follow the sewer line all the way, or watch their movements and follow along."

The tattered tents, patched up tarps, and littered streets. If anyone were to think of slums, this would be a picture in a dictionary. Macradon sighed at the digital misery that was forced upon these people, be they sentient or not. He didn’t have much to say on the matter, he wasn’t a figure of power to turn anything on this floor, if anything he was a terrorist, a foreigner who has come to stir up some problems for his own personal gain: freedom from the hellscape Aincrad.

Hirru was quick to find the so-called ‘corridor’, and Macradon had to agree with the description. A lot of people were walking in and out, escorted by what seemed like ordinary soldiers, and perhaps even regular people. It was clear that there were people being escorted, and not just random bands of people; those oppressed were wearing yellow arm bands, Galtean refugees.

It seemed like Hirru wanted the two to follow and try to do some reconnaissance in these corridors, but with Macradon’s current loadout, sneaking was going to be a bit difficult, and he didn't want to stick more out sonically than he already did. “Aight … give me a few” he would request and extracted multiple straps of leather from his inventory, he procured a dozen of belts that he would use to tie down his armour to his body so the interlocking parts wouldn’t make as much noise as he moved about. It wasn’t a problem he was used to, but after the big overhaul, his sneaking prowess had virtually vanished and his armour was now too loud to properly sneak around. After a few tightenings of the belts, Macradon’s battle regalia was fastened enough to make as minimal sound as possible during transit, which was optimal for what seemed like a stealth oriented stalking expedition.

“Alright, let’s head out” he said and began his stride. Big movements into the sewer line, not something he was fond of as the smell was horrendous “Seems like this is the best route, let’s just get it over with.”
