Floor 21, The Grand Necropolis, ??:??pm

The clatter of steel echoed off the the grey-brown stones of the Necropolis. Tonight, the city of the dead was quite alive. Sweat dripped off of Koga's brow as he quickly glanced up at his HUD, confirming his health was still in the green and ticking up before returning his gaze to the three undead wraiths before him, smoke coming off their ghostly bodies and seeping out between the seams of their armor.

"Okami, go." A quiet command, and the Wolf lunged forward, fangs bared, before launching into the air and tackling the first of the wraiths to the grand, Okami's teeth sunk deep into it's incorporeal neck. The other two turned to raise their arms against the white wolf, but Koga stepped in before they could strike. Three swift strikes, and the wraiths faded into nothing as experience crawled up Koga's skin in a haze of light.

"Good job bud," Koga said, gently patting the canine's head as his eyes searched his surroundings for anymore foes they might've missed. He couldn't see any, but that didn't mean they weren't out there. Especially not when the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Someone's eyes were on him, he was certain.

ID:203033 | Battle:10, Craft:8, Loot:18+6=24 (Stealth Rating)

An eerie white fog crept slowly over the shambling decay, a ghost that could easily be counted among the number of those native on the floor. A single set of piercing cyan blue eyes watch carefully, cautiously from the dark as that bitter cold crawls out in rolling snow like mist. "Male and a canine." Moving in closer for a callous, almost surgical inspection, staying just beyond the peripheral and like a shadow for the kill. Beneath the stones where she held out of sight, getting closer, weighing Koga as a potential opponent. "He's been in my store." The girl remarks in epiphany, sizing him up as the dead began to build in number, aiming for his life. What he would see, is a single blue line easily distinguishable as a sword art trail like a bouncing bullet. An undead unfortunate enough to make the katana's acquaintance sees its head fall to the floor as the body kept walking for a good three or so steps before collapsing and evolving into digital confetti without warning.

A quick tracer of blue light has Koga readying his weapon in an instant, as he turns to face whatever player had just executed an Art. Instead, a headless mob shambled, stumbling forward before disintegrating. "What the..." Koga murmured as he looked around for the culprit. And then he heard the clattering of bones. Of course that wasn't the only skeleton around.

Koga's grip tightened around his weapon as the Wolf at his side raised it's haunches, growling with killer intent at the growing horde. One step, two, slash. Block, the echoing ring steel clashing against steel. Step to the side, Koga's katana meets the skeleton's spine, cleaning severing it. Another step to the side, and this time, Tsuki no Hikari bites into a skeleton's neck, beheading it. Okami lunges at a skeleton's arm, dragging it to the floor in a bundle of bones. Koga's katana bursts into black flame as he thrusts the blade through the chest armor.

A moment to evaluate his situation. Prognosis, SNAFU. At least ten or twelve more to deal with more pouring in every second. Whoever that other player was, Koga really wouldn't mind a hand or two from them at this point.

Narrative Damage: x11 {30+16+5+4} = 605 to 4 targets, Then a Vanish

"Tch." The girl remarks with a sudden flare of blue on her iris, and the light patter of footfalls find her move in for the kill. A single gleaming blade scatters across the field in a blinding blue line, revealing for a brief instant the silver haired girl made woman. "Okami..." A murmur through a purple cloth covering shielding the lower half of her face from view. From the sky above her, like a homing missile, a tiny little bird screams right into the dirt. It connects hard, before tendrils of ice spray out like roots and impale a couple of the freshly spawned opponents. Slowly sliding her weapon into its scabbard, it was as if it was a trigger to something waiting to kick in.

Four freeze solid, becoming nothing more than statues locked in time. Alive and yet trapped in their respective torments until they thawed, and the wounds would inevitably open, and they'd die a gruesome bisection. Living only on borrowed time. Without a moment to spare, the girl flickers in and out of existence, her form becoming incorporeal. It disperses in a white fog, as if she never really was there at all. She was on a mission, but there was sometime before she'd need to be at the location.

Another flash of blue, Koga's eyes followed the trail of light as closely as he could. The fast moving stream was little more than a blur, and yet, he was still able to catch a singular glimpse of long silver hair.

The sound of frost crackling and encasing its targets drew Koga's attention to the four mobs who were now little more than living ice sculptures. Whoever this person was, they were an incredible fighter.

With four more down that left eight to go. Alright, maybe Koga would live to see tomorrow. A steady exhale as he brought the point of his sword level with his eyes. The ground around him burst into whirling circle of black and crimson flame, the heat creating a powerful updraft sending the tail of his coat and his hair shooting upwards.

The man rocketed forward, the flame trailing behind him, straight into the group of eight. A single heaving slash, and four were engulfed in the hellish fire before turning to ash, they're forms blowing away on an undetectable wind.

Four left.

A whistle on the wind, one that would seem familiar to those that had braved a dark winter night. Flames danced and weapons raised, catching a bit of lingering ash on that chill. It joins and is dismembered by it, in a muddied mixture of kindling and sparks, an apparition of white evoked within it. A melding of temperatures, a bleeding of difference and yet shared intentions. The click of a scabbard as it turned, clutched in a pale ivory hand. A harsh grinding in an explosive pull.

It slowly drags on the top of a saya, as the light in the air fades. Clicking shut, the girl looks back at the player on her flank, that had bought her the opening she needed. Through that moonlight, a pair of eyes leaving trails behind them as she shifts. Atop a deep purple colored face mask, one can barely make out the shape of the lower half of a mouth and nose. Flames still flickering in a ring around them both, dancing softly at the corners with a threat of spreading.

One after another, bodies cascade down, shortly after a head does.

"It isn't safe to be this high up, alone, at this time of night." The warning came off cold, calculating as it emulated concern. There was a tinge of a twist to it, like frostbite, in a way that made it feel numb and unpleasant.

The sound that of bones striking the ground was like that of a crate of glass bottles. A great clattering crash, nearly musical, if not for the lack of any composition. But a conductor stood among the symphony none the less. A girl, she couldn't have been older than his sister. And yet, she spoke without any of the fickle temperament that one might expect of someone her age.

"You're one to talk," Koga replied flatly. The cold, acerbic tone glanced off Koga like a pebble, but the irony of a lone girl telling him to not be here alone not lost on him. "What are you doing out here?" the man asked. It wasn't a patronizing question, clearly the girl was more than capable to handle herself. But it was suspicious. "I didn't think anyone else was out here." Most players were at their homes, or in a tavern, sleeping, resting for the next day's adventure. Not them though.

A callous remark, from someone who was walking right out in plain view. The mobs agreed with her, that he was basically a beacon for trouble. "What I am supposed to, I get around with much less attention." Instead of the walking dinner bell, telling everything within earshot to 'Eat me' with his actions. Soft pattering tabi dig into the dust, a sonar like pulse echoes out from her seeking other hostiles within proximity. "You would be wrong, quite a number of players frequent these grounds when night falls."

A twist of her face, still adorned in that covering, you can faintly make out her lips moving. Eying him cautiously, "But those that do, aren't usually up to any good. So, are you predator or prey?" She'd saved his life not moments before, presumably, and yet even still her words held an edge. Was he out here looking to cut his teeth on something sinister, preying on someone that appeared as helpless as he? Or was he an imbecile, that just happened to find himself where a sect of murderers were using as a hunting ground.

In his head, Koga sighed. He did not literally mean that no one else was out, moreso that he hadn't expected to run into anyone, but he wasn't about to try and argue semantics with this girl. Not when she was looking at him like she was about to do to him what she did to those skeletons.

'Well, it'd be a quick death, at least,' Koga thought before answering. "I'm gonna go with neither," the man replied, figuring the first answer made him sound like a serial killer, and the second, some low level idiot who didn't know his ass from his sword. Either seemed liable to earn him that quick death he was thinking about. "I'm farming," he said, pointing with the tip of his sword at where he'd just finished off those wraiths moments prior. "Or at least I was, until that horde showed up." Koga looked at the pile of bones, still slowly disintegrating behind the girl, and then drifted his gaze to her. "Your turn. 'What I'm supposed to' doesn't exactly qualify as an answer."

"Neither, not a choice but a choice just the same." The girl's hand hovering a handle seems to move just a few inches away and lax. "I am hunting, for the very things that would have killed you. Simple, and it is all the detail I am capable of giving you. I cannot know your motives." She was alluding to that revealing them to him would mean that he was a risk, or it would put him at risk. "A strange place to farm, but it speaks to your capabilities. If..." The words broke as she reached for a cloth covering and slowly removed it.

Her cursor which had been absent until now becomes visible, a dormant emerald spinning over her head revealed. The lower half of her face, the same.

Soft flickering black flames, still smoldering and offering a slight glow. "It is the truth." Another sonar like pulse rings out from her, eyes still engulfed with a surplus of skills in constant demand. This exposure was difficult, but it was a confirmation without giving away too much detail. She finds no known foes within the brush, perhaps maybe. They were alone.

'What would have killed me...hmph.' Well, there were only two things in Aincrad that were gonna be doing that, and Truck-kun wasn't one of them. The girl was shifty, even in the manner with which she spoke. It reminded Koga of some spy in a movie. Vague, and not really saying much, but at the same time saying everything for those in the know.

The standard green diamond indicating a player reappeared above the snowy-haired girl's head, confirming that she wasn't an NPC. Not that Koga could believe any NPC could do what she had just done, without it being a floor boss. Even that was questionable at this stage.

Koga's eyes flicked above his own head at his own little green cursor, then back to the girl. "Heh, yeah, I guess the green don't mean much these days, huh?" the man replied. There were many a method to kill a player and keep one's own hands clean these days, after all.

The man sheathed his weapon, figuring a show of non-aggression was the next step in the 'Idiot's Guide to Not Getting Stabbed by Murder Gremlins'. Still, he kept his left hand around the mouth of the saya, angling the weapon forward just a tad. A position where he could react quickly if more mobs appeared.

If this girl attacked? Well, Koga doubt he'd even see it coming.

"Alright, so you're here to kill not-me. But I'm guessing you're not here to kill mobs either," Koga said, "otherwise you wouldn't be quite so...weird...about getting to cut in on my farm." Given the, admittedly, healthy measure of distrust radiating off the girl, and the fact that she still had a green marker, that did leave one more option. "PKers. Right?"

Wiser than he let on, able to decipher at least her immediate goals. "It doesn't for the careful, for the ones that can slip the system. They are a bit harder to deal with, but can be nonetheless." A more relaxed posture allows Setsuna the same. "To put it loosely, they've been rushing back and forth between Tomoika and Charko. Attacking the route between them, hoping to blindside players who are questing and taking advantage of the bat creatures. Best to steer clear of that area at nightfall." A small analysis, just enough to give the man a place to avoid. Turning on her heel, she starts to scan the effervescent surroundings. Memories of quite a few little affairs in these halls, some lethal, others farming like he appeared to be. Twilight across the darkened water, time alludes to the prospect of another bellowing horn and an ascent into Val Halla. She'd been through her own share of exchanges, and as she snaps from one viewpoint to the next, it would be obvious she was looking to move on. Koga had shifted from threat, to part of the scenery, rather quickly.

"I'll be sure to avoid that area then," Koga said with a nod, still not quite sure what to think of this girl. Stone-cold killer? Some kind of sentinel for the people? Probably something else entirely, but she still had enough heart to at least warn him of the potential dangers.

"I don't suppose you'd let me give you a hand since you helped me with those skeletons, I don't like owing others." the Wolf said, framing it as if paying off a debt. Something didn't sit quite well with him about a young girl like her running around killing others. PKers or not. It wasn't even the fact that she was young, tragedy befell everyone in Aincrad, there wasn't a single person who hadn't escaped it. Everyone had seen or done something that no human being should ever have to. It was the callousness with which she acted that bothered him. Like rough hewn stone raised against the world. Cold, uncaring. Without the threat of immediate death, the trait became all the more apparent.

"It isn't wise." The girl remarked, reaching for the mask around her throat. "I know nothing of your capabilities other than a brief glimpse and words." Sliding it back over her lips and nose, her cursor begins to fade, as if fog on a window clearing. "It would be equally brash of you to attempt to fight an enemy you know nothing about. Swallow your pride, there is no debt." The seas of Tartarus were blooming, blinding in their effervescent cyan glow. A beautiful landscape of color, and to some it would be enrapturing. But for those that operated in this limelight, before the dawn it would go unnoticed. A task had to be performed and although Koga wished it, she could not trust his ability or his drive. It was one thing to convince oneself that they could kill another, but it took something else entirely to do so. It was a fact not lost on the girl.

Koga wasn't quite sure if he should feel insulted. The denial had been expected, but the poking at his pride had been a little uncalled for. Ultimately though, it was something Koga needed to ignore, it wasn't important. So, instead, he sighed. "Yeah, I figured you'd say something like that."

More silence. There was little Koga would be able to change the girl's mind. It only took a glimpse of the girl to know this. He wondered what could have possibly lead them both to stand here, in a field of bones like this. Nothing was right with this world, was it? It was a fact Koga had conveniently avoided until now. Until this moment, he'd taken it all at face value. An unlikely series of events. Bad luck. Ultimately though, just the workings of the universe. But this place, the world that they were borne into by such unfortunate fortune, there was nothing right about it. He could reason it as much as he'd like. That such tragedies occurred in the real world. That death was a constant no matter where one existed. But that didn't make it right.

So in this incorrect world, what could he possibly say?

"Good luck."

And nothing else.

A slight twist of her head, a quarry would go unanswered. Like a puppy. "What would you expect, I do not understand your reticence." Catching on that sigh, that dismissal as if defeated. He was holding back something. Tension lingered on the air, so damn thick that it could almost be felt. "You don't seem the slightest bit concerned about my motives, my actions. To the point that you offered to aid me." Setsuna had done him a service declining his offer, not the other way around. That pause, that disconnect was almost scathing.

"Too trusting, too willing to stick your neck out. I remember you from my store, talking to one of my mannequins like an imbecile." Without reprieve, she moves in closer to the boy, each word both true and serrated. Nothing more than a foot between them, Setsuna clearly shorter as she looked up at him. A pair of skill charged eyes, glowing like candles in an abandoned cabin. "Is that what you are? An imbecile? my decline is to protect you, idiot. Not because I discount what you can do. You are not predictable, my enemies are."

The girl spoke more words in the last five seconds than Koga thought he'd heard her utter in the last five minutes. He was wrong, but surprising nonetheless, not that any trace of that emotion showed on his face as he allowed the girl to say her piece, stepping closer as she did so. "So...you're the mysterious merchant, huh?" Koga said, not bothering to answer her questions quite yet. It made sense for her to be the one selling things out of that small dark building. Made sense that it was unmarked, given how distrustful she appeared to be of others.

"If you wanted to kill me, you would have done it already. Or you could have let that horde of skeletons do it for you, that would've been even smarter. Keeps you cursor intact," Koga explained. He was a man of simple reasonings, but not necessarily an imbecile as the girl seemed to think. "Instead, you chose to go out of your way to give me a hand, despite having some pressing task or another to attend to. That tells me that your motives, whatever they are, are most likely something of a benefit others, especially with how you were talking about those PKers." Of course, she could have been lying. And she could be a very good liar, but Koga doubted that she had been bluffing. "So yeah, I'm willing to go out on a limb and offer you my help because I think whatever your up to is probably worth it. My life isn't worth much, and it doesn't require protection for that reason." The man then shrugged, an uncaring movement that seemed to match the indifference in his eyes. "And if you are lying, and I came along...well, the jig's up. Even if you ran me through, a good shout would be enough. You operate off silence, after all."

"I am." he'd weighed what she'd done, which, considering it for a moment as if he'd given her something grand to decipher. A sour look on her face starts to fade, as it sunk in. "You are correct, allowing the mobs to weaken you would have been ideal. I could have killed you, and it wouldn't have been difficult." Slinking back as the bitter cold fades, a brash sense of anger along with it. To the mask on her lips, a ring of her HUD. The night was over, and a new day was being born. Beginning to dust off her shoulders. "They won't operate now. I wasted too much time talking." A shuffle of her menu open silences a screaming pigeon that was an alarm, twisting a hand into the scarf around her neck, she peels out a small sliverish blue hued metal.

"Hold still." The girl starts to run a needle in a part near his right shoulder, mainly as an apology for making such a jump to conclusion. Slinking it through a hole that was starting to form it begins to patch it up with a bit of dangling string. It doesn't take more than a few seconds. "It is important, PKer's that are a bit of the 'smarter' kind are trying to choke players out. It's my job to make sure that doesn't happen. Your grinding up here? So are other players, and they attempt to flood and overwhelm you. It doesn't matter if you're higher level, unless you were a strong tank you were likely to get obliterated."

Looking at the piece as she weighs the guy "It wouldn't have mattered if you scream or not. They wouldn't have found me." The girl looks back at him with an emotionless deadpan as her tone became deeper. Her image begins to flicker and distort in white mist as she tested a new voice carefully. Moments later Koga was staring back at himself that started duplicating into multiples.

"You really should take better care of your armor. I bet you have someone to care about you, which makes your life more valuable than mine."

The girl confirmed Koga's suspicions, that his deductions were correct. But he'd wasted her time with this discussion, the angry screeching coming from her HUD announcing as much. There was little to do about it now, and it appeared there would be another day for it. Maybe the next time she'd take his offer of assistance.

At the girl's command, Koga stood as still as he could, hardly moving, aside from the subtle rise and fall of his chest, the only other indication of life aside from the way his head followed the girl's movements. She darned a small hole in the shoulder of his coat, the needle deftly moving in and out of the thick cloth, somehow avoiding pricking his skin. She explained the motives of the PKers as she worked. Although he didn't need it, it helped to understand why she was attempting to take them out, and her enemies.

Her voice began to warble, and soon after, her virtual form. Flickering, shifting, morphing and distorting before his eyes. And then she spoke in his voice, with his face. The statuesque impression broke, as his eyes widened. Only knowledge of the skill being used prevented a more severe response. "Jesus," he muttered as he watched them multiply, numerous clones of himself staring back, a single important message. The muscles of his jaw stiffened as he nodded. "Yeah. I suppose I do," he replied. Or at least he thought so. "Do you not have anyone? A guild? Friends?" he inquired carefully, prodding, trying to understand what made the mysterious player into who they now were.

A flick of the wrist and Setsuna returns that needle into the scarf around her neck, disappearing into the purple fabric. The image fades and the clones turn to snow and fall gracefully on the wind. Point proven. "I have a guild, my friends are dead. No one would mourn me, if that is your question." The reply was numb, unfeeling and cold. Sliding open a menu, and typing away a quick response. To the overwatch, that her opponents rushed away and would need tracking. In the same slide between menus, she peels out a small box and slides down a wall of stone near a pile of bones. The girl looked so alone, and despite it, she was defiant in her silence.

Sliding open the top reveals a plain portion of rice, of food that was meant for nothing more than to sustain her. An exhalation as she appeared tired, and yet alert. From her hip, a katana, riding her right shoulder. A small container removed from the bento, one of leather. Unfurling, it reveals a bottle and a pair of tweezers. "Thanks for the meal." The girl murmurs, leaving Koga to move as he wished.
