Vigilon 0 Posted October 26, 2023 Author #81 Share Posted October 26, 2023 Welp, Vigilon wasn't going to stick around for this, better help Dazia get Shanno to safety! Down the tower, down the tower, the shaking has stopped, but now Vigilon was getting worried, for who knows what's coming. Speaking of which... "Hey, Shanno," Vigilon began as the players were making their way down. "Do you know what the seals were containing?" Shanno quickly recalled what she'd read. "Two groups, the Ivory Clan, and the Ebony Clan." Shanno answered. Were these groups small, medium, or large? If they could overrun the players, Vigilon was going to assume they were pretty damn large if that was really the case. Sure, he could get into another scrap or two soon, but Dazia's HP wasn't looking the best. If this place was called the Ivory Citadel, maybe there was more about this "Ivory Clan" that had something to do with this Citadel, and this "Ebony Clan" had something else, who knows. Dazia 0 Posted October 26, 2023 #82 Share Posted October 26, 2023 Wonderful, two clans... NPC factions, and now they've been released. But this was a mission, and Dazia intended to see it through. Shanno needed to be brought out safely, no matter what. The three players managed to get out of the room that connected the Citadel to the Tower, so there ends the linear path. Now there was probably a maze of rooms to get through before they could finally escape, as Dazia wasn't able to retrace her steps beyond here. She tried to retrace her steps regardless, but they didn't make any sense. "Damn it, the way we came isn't making sense! There should have been a room over there!" She thought aloud. Shanno then remembered a detail from the time she was around exploring the Citadel prior to being trapped at the Tower. "The rooms, they change and shift. There was a room there, but not anymore." She revealed. Well, that just made things a whole lot harder. Vigilon 0 Posted October 26, 2023 Author #83 Share Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) So this place was nearly impossible to navigate? Nah, can't be... "Shanno...do you, by any chance have anything that could reveal a layout of the Citadel? A map? Memory will also do, if possible. If the odd rooms are the ones that shift and change, then the rest of the Citadel should be straightforward, right?" Vigilon asked Shanno, essentially thinking out loud as he did so. Shanno took a second to think. "...I don't have a physical map with me, but I remember getting lost and figuring out a few pathways. I intended to climb upwards to see where I was exactly and which direction to go, but that's when I ended up trapped by the monster you killed." Shanno explained. "I remember coming from...this way!" Shanno would take point from here, but Vigilon kept an eye out for anything different, just in case. For a second, he looked to the side and he could have sworn he'd seen blue dots and shifting white pass by the other end of the corridor he was looking towards...weird. Dazia 0 Posted October 26, 2023 #84 Share Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) Dazia listened to the two players' conversation, but there wasn't much that Dazia could chime in for. Nevertheless, she listened, then allowed Shanno to take the lead. Of course, Dazia kept her weapon in hand just in case anything showed up. Everything in the interior and exterior of this damn place was white, so not only was there no use sneaking, there was hardly any way to properly remember these halls...but from what Dazia's memory and the present moment could tell, Shanno was right, while the strange rooms kept appearing, disappearing, and changing, the halls had no changes to them. At the end of the next hall, Dazia could see another color...which wasn't a good thing, it meant interference. She took the lead from that moment as to protect Shanno, but then as the three players drew near, Dazia was able to make out the odd shapes of the entities there. By the time Dazia stopped, she was nearly face to face with the things. They were all black, save for a pair of red gemstones where the eyes should be...but what was confusing wasn't the normal, black armored arms and legs, but the bodies of these creatures themselves. "What the hell...? Are these...Chess pieces??" Dazia observed, for they looked like giant black pawns with arms and legs, as well as rubies for eyes. Vigilon 0 Posted October 26, 2023 Author #85 Share Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) So the three players would get roadblocked by a bunch of black chess pieces with limbs. Odd. Three pawn looking things just staring at the three players. It was almost casually awkward, but then a dark knight with a red-eyed, dark horse head joined the trio of pawns. This couldn't be good. Yeah, there was no avoiding a fight at this point. Vigilon readied his weapon, and struck all four enemies with his Sword Art. The Ebony Pawns were all heavily damaged, only the horse-headed Ebony Knight remained above half its HP. Vigilon breathed out a sigh of relief. "Phew...thank God these are just common goons, I don't know what we would've done if they were more than that..." He remarked. So then, this was the Ebony Clan, judging by their dark colors, as well as the names of these monsters, <<Ebony Pawn>>, <<Ebony Knight>>. This must mean that if the Ebony Clan was made up of monsterfied black pieces, then white pieces turned into monsters would be the Ivory Clan, right? Dazia 0 Posted October 26, 2023 #86 Share Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) So, the two clans were just a bunch of chess pieces...all that Dazia could hope at this point was that the rooks, bishops, kings and queens weren't too dangerous, as the pawns and knights seemed to be much easier to kill than expected. Even the Knight, whose HP was still above the halfway point when taking damage from Vigilon's attack...after all, the two players had been through far worse than this. Dazia prepared her sword art, and Shanno stepped back as the two other players fought. Dazia's attack slaughtered the three pawns, but the knight was left standing. Dazia prepared herself, as it seemed to be readying an attack that would leave an impact if it were successful. "Shanno, to my left." She suggested. Once Shanno moved, the Ebony Knight rushed towards Dazia. She sidestepped the attack and grappled the monster by the arm, proceeding to use momentum against it, swinging it with a spin and slamming it against the wall. The wall displayed <<Immortal Object>>, but the enemy did not look like it was having a good day. Vigilon 0 Posted November 21, 2023 Author #87 Share Posted November 21, 2023 (edited) Dazia finished off the Ebony Pawns and slammed the Ebony Knight into the wall. Victory was pretty much assured, Vigilon and Dazia simply had to win it...and to win it, the two players would need to hit this thing. "I'm going in for an attack, Move so you don't get caught in the crossfire!" Vigilon alerted Dazia. Once there was an opening, Vigilon readied his weapon and his sword art, before unleashing his attack against the Ebony Knight. The Ebony Knight was now looking really bad, and its HP was in the red. It couldn't last much longer like this, and yet, it apparently wanted to keep fighting, based on the look in its glowing red eyes. Ah, yes...the classic case of the typical Aincrad monster behavior, regardless of floor...where the monsters' reactions to being in danger isn't "Oh shoot I gotta run", but instead "I'm taking you to hell with me". Dazia 0 Posted January 11 #88 Share Posted January 11 (edited) It was always the same old damn thing. Monsters turn out to be smarter than expected, a clash of equal skill, and a lock of weapons...at least, that's what happened when Dazia went in to strike after Vigilon damaged it. Exactly how was Vigilon doing better than Dazia was? Was there some kind of luck the dumbass had that flip-flopped for better or for worse specifically on the situation? Dazia glared burning daggers into the cold red dead eyes of the Ebony Knight, but it didn't seem to care about Dazia's mood whatsoever. The two simply kept pushing at each other, though it seemed that Dazia was making better progress despite the size comparison between the both of them. Shanno could only watch as the two were engaged in a shoving match as their weapons remained locked against each other. "You better come in clutch, Vigilon!" Dazia called out. As much as she would have loved to make the kill, she was getting tired of this, and just wanted to get Shanno out of here unscathed. Vigilon 0 Posted February 14 Author #89 Share Posted February 14 (edited) It must be hard for Shanno, only being able to stand and watch as the two other players fought on, with seemingly no end in sight, 'cause this Ebony Knight knew how to dodge, block, lock, deflect, push during a lock, the list goes on... Point was, this Ebony Knight seemed to be giving it's all for it's survival...and Vigilon knew why. This thing wasn't gonna stop until Vigilon went down as well. Despite the fact that Dazia was managing to hold it off, she was failing to damage it while doing so. She called for Vigilon to make an attack, but as it turns out, it's hard to strike a target when said target is in lock with an ally and can attempt to use said ally as a meat shield. Vigilon canceled out his attack the moment Dazia was in harm's way. "Damn, this thing's way smarter than it looks..." He thought. There had to be a way around this predicament, and if Dazia couldn't get a scratch on this thing, he'd need to consider his options, and quickly. Dazia 0 Posted February 15 #90 Share Posted February 15 (edited) Dazia growled. She had no one to blame, not even herself, for her lack of weight making it easy for her opponent to position her like a meat shield when Vigilon tried to come in clutch. "Well then I guess at the end of the day, I have to do everything myself." She thought. She lessened her pressure to make the monster think it was winning the shoving match, and just when its guard was down, she shoved back with enough force to knock it into the wall and rush in to finish it off with a sword art, letting out a portion of her frustration in the process. The monster shrieked, and it's struggling slowed to a stop as the glow of undead life began to fade from its eyes. It fell limp, and shattered. Dazia took a deep breath and got up slowly. "There, it's dead. Now let's get out of here." She stated. Now all that was left was to get out of this place before it becomes swarming with more monsters. Vigilon 0 Posted September 6 Author #91 Share Posted September 6 (edited) Dazia took a strategic advance to put the shoving match in her favor, then she mercilessly tore the monster apart, its death throes were slower than the other monsters killed this day. Well, uh, with that out of the way, time to return to the escape! Vigilon would choose to go on ahead and let Dazia and Shanno follow beside each other. Rescuing Shanno was Dazia's mission, after all, and he decided to do his part to make sure the coast was clear. Vigilon quite literally ran into a monster. He fell right onto his rear on the ground after his face met metal. Vigilon shook his head and looked at what stood before him. Three Pawns, this time white in color, with Sapphires where their eyes should be, and a great big knight with heavy armor patterned like a brick wall, wielding a heavy axe in one hand, and a hefty towering kite shield of solid white metal in the other. Where its head should be, was the top of a rook piece, with sapphires where the eyes ought to be. Well, now he knew what the rooks looked like...and he knew what he needed to do next, with how the monsters were glaring at him. Vigilon activated his sword art, but what he wasn't expecting was for the rook to get in his way twice when he was trying to deal with the pawns. Vigilon damaged one pawn, but the rook took two of his hits, alongside the sword art's attack against it. "...What the hell...?" Vigilon thought aloud. What just happened? Dazia 0 Posted September 6 #92 Share Posted September 6 (edited) Vigilon ran into another bunch of monsters. Based on their white coloration, they must have been from the Ivory Clan. Vigilon engaged them in battle and started things off with his sword art, but the towering rook with the shield got in the way of two attacks directed towards pawns. Moreover, the attacks didn't put much of a dent in its HP when it was blocking. "Wait, they have a Tank!?" She realized. This might complicate things by at least a little...well, they were in another fight now, so might as well get this over with. Shanno stayed back, preferring to safely observe this fight as well. Dazia moved in to strike, and unleashed her Area of Effect Sword Art. One pawn dodged the attack, the one pawn Vigilon struck was finished off, the third pawn was protected by the rook, which was next in line for Dazia's unrelenting attack. She managed to put its HP down in the yellow, and the Rook's gaze was then fixed on her. Dazia dodged the swing of it's heft axe, just to get a lance to her side from behind, courtesy of the pawn the Rook had defended. Seems that the Ivory Clan knew a thing or two about teamwork. Vigilon 0 Posted September 9 Author #93 Share Posted September 9 (edited) Vigilon watched as Dazia tore into the enemy's ranks the way she usually does, practically tearing them up with unbound yet silent fury...accept two pawns were spared of this, as one dodged the attack while the rook got in the way of the other. Its HP was in the yellow now, so it seemed like the best thing he could do was just keep whaling at the enemy forces and go for another sword art. Using the same as the last time, he put a lot of force into his next attack. It mattered little that the rook got in the way, as the attack was not only stronger, but paralyzed the rook, rendering it immobile, unable to get in the players' way further for a bit. The rook's HP was now in the red, things were looking up for the players now. "Dazia, it's paralyzed, now's your chance!" He called out. Dazia 0 Posted September 10 #94 Share Posted September 10 (edited) This was already getting tiring, but at least Vigilon made himself useful and weakened the enemy ranks enough for her to damage them more effectively, not to mention paralyzing that damn tank so she could get the others taken care of. One more sword art ought to do the trick. She prepared a stronger sword art, and began to tear into all three of her enemies. The pawn that survived was knocked several meters after being ruthlessly damaged and torn, their HP falling to the red. The other pawn was not so lucky, and was obliterated by Dazia's relentless assault. The Rook could only watch as Dazia brought ruin to its comrades, and then once the pawns were struck, the rook itself was next. It practically closed its gemstone-like eyes as it knew it could not stop the inevitable. Dazia's weapon would tear through its armor and nearly cut it to pieces as fallen energy surged through, worsening the damage. By the time Dazia was finished, all that was left of the rook were the shattered remnants of a slain entity of the game. Vigilon 0 Posted September 10 Author #95 Share Posted September 10 (edited) Vigilon stood there as Dazia took the opportunity he'd given her. Well, now that was three gone, just have to finish up that last one that Dazia sent flying earlier. Vigilon readied his blade as he made his way over. "Alright, you know how this ends and so do I, so let's just make this quick." He activated his sword art, finishing off the last opponent in the fight. He took a deep breath, then looked over to Dazia. "You feeling ok, Dazia?" He asked. After whatever response he'd get from her, he'd then look over to the player they were in the middle of rescuing. "Are you alright, Shanno? We didn't scare you or anything, did we?" He asked. Shanno silently shook her head, but the response didn't seem to match her eyes. As concerning as Vigilon found Shanno's response to be, he decided to respect that and return to the escape portion of the rescue mission. "Right, let's get back to getting out of here before the place is swarming with monsters." He suggested. Dazia 0 Posted September 10 #96 Share Posted September 10 Dazia was only getting more frustrated. Vigilon asked if Dazia was alright, but the only words to come out of Dazia were "...Not enough...it's never enough..." being muttered under her breath in disappointment. For you see, her frustrations were only building up, every battle was an opportunity to take her anger out on those who deserve it...but it's never enough, she can never seem to inflict enough pain...and in situations like these, it was always worse. Shanno had seen what Dazia was capable of, and now knew that she was the last person a reasonable person would want to piss off. Shanno was the one who Dazia was rescuing, but it really puts a damper on potential relationships and alliances when good people witness the bad side first. Dazia rushed off the moment Vigilon suggested continuing on. At this point she either wanted to leave, or kill more. She didn't care which came first.
Vigilon 0 Posted September 10 Author #97 Share Posted September 10 (edited) Vigilon kept his eyes open for anything, but kept looking back to Shanno, hoping that she was alright and that she was keeping up with Vigilon. Dazia had rushed off, so Vigilon and Shanno had to move quickly to try and catch up with her. Shanno began having trouble keeping up, so Vigilon offered his arm to grab so she could easily keep up with him. The only time she let go was when they caught up with Dazia, which was also at the moment the three players nearly ran into more monsters. Ebony Clan monsters, by the looks of it. Two knights, an one that looked like an Ebony Rook. The monsters readied themselves for battle, but then a voice interrupted what was almost a fight. "Hold now, just a moment, little ones..." Vigilon saw a tall woman enter the scene. Something definitely wasn't right about her, but she had either the appearance, aura, or even both, that could easily draw people into a false sense of security, but the last thing Vigilon wanted right now was to take actions he'd regret. Spoiler Vigilon looked to this woman as she entered his field of vision, an air of elegance in her step...and a bad hunger in her eyes. The name above this entity displayed... <<Ophelia, The Ebony Queen>> Vigilon's heart was racing, he didn't know if it was out of fear, or...something else. Who knows, could be fear and something else. He tried to hide whatever this feeling may be, but he ultimately failed, judging by the woman's expression towards Vigilon. Regardless, this woman must be as the nametag revealed, the Queen of the Ebony Clan. Ophelia looked to the three players, taking several seconds looking into the eyes of each one. "New faces here in the Citadel, and the one who had kept us sealed away is now finally gone...stay your weapons, we actually have them to thank for our freedom." She said to her subordinates. Dazia 0 Posted September 11 #98 Share Posted September 11 It wasn't long before Dazia found another bunch of Ebony Clan monsters. She considered fighting them, but looked to her energy and considered a standoff first. Vigilon was about to square up, as the monsters were preparing to attack, but a voice interrupted the tension. Oh...this just got much worse. The somewhat gothic, sultry looking woman stepped into the scene, looking each player in the eye as though she was sizing them all up for some unknown purpose. A hunger could be seen in her eyes, but as malevolent as the hunger seemed, it was currently uncertain as to what this hunger was over. She declared that the players were to thank for the clans' freedom. She wasn't wrong, but Dazia did not intend to let her guard down. "...And you are?" Dazia questioned. The Ebony Minions were agitated by Dazia's question, but the woman didn't seem to mind, which made sense. Who could know of someone who was sealed away and unspoken of for who knows how long? The woman's smirk slowly transitioned into a smile. "I am the secret true leader of the Ebony Clan." She began. "I am Ophelia, the Ebony Queen." She declared. Made sense. If might makes right and these monsters truly resembled chess pieces, then the Queen would definitely be stronger and more dangerous than even the King...and that was exactly the problem. "Damn it, this is worse than I thought..." Dazia thought. She was not expecting the queen to show up. Her stance and expression changed from aggression and frustration to wariness. Based on how tough the goons were, this queen was probably a boss. She didn't have the time, energy, patience, or active healer to save her from a mess like this.
Vigilon 0 Posted September 11 Author #99 Share Posted September 11 If even Dazia knew to be wary, then this was definitely a dangerous situation. She continued to look each player in the eye, before seemingly settling her gaze onto Vigilon. "Ah, but you have done us a favor, have you not? I do believe you should be rewarded, if you are willing to accept..." Vigilon wasn't sure about this. First, Ophelia looked to Shanno. "For you, I can offer a special piece from my armory." She stated, as a weapon appeared in her hand, and she handed it to Shanno. "It carries power from the energies of our clan. Take it, and you will wield the power to decimate legions that dare oppose you." Shanno had a choice to make. Lucky for her, her choice was an easy one. "...I accept your gift. Thank you..." She said nervously. Taking the weapon, it would change its form into a polearm fit for Shanno to use. Ophelia then looked to Dazia. "As for you, I can offer you this ring. It should prove useful for someone of your...particular talents, I presume." She said, as she pulled out a dark metal ring with a dark red ruby. "This ring senses the search for blood. Take it, and you will surely find those who may have an opportunity for you." She explained. Once Dazia had made her response, regardless of whether she would accept or reject, Ophelia would move on to Vigilon. "And you..." Ophelia's smile opened up, revealing canines too long and sharp to be canines- wait, those were fangs... Ophelia was a Vampire. "I offer you...kinship. I offer the power within my blood." She began. "Receive my gift to you, and you will walk as a lion among sheep. Your enemies will tremble at your approach, and you will never need to fear death again." She explained as she slowly advanced towards him. Vigilon had to be careful about how he would go around this. "And what if I refuse your gift?" He asked. Ophelia's advance slowed. It was clear she did not anticipate the possibility of Vigilon's refusal. "I suppose I could come up with an alternative, if you were to refuse..." She noted, looking disappointed. "Are you refusing?" Vigilon slowly nodded his head. "Sorry...I just wouldn't feel right as a Vampire. I'd prefer to be my own person. I'm content with remaining a human." He responded. There was no mistaking the Ebony Queen's disappointment in this moment, but at least she wasn't angered. "I see..." Ophelia raised her hand and began to channel some kind of power with it, and some kind of object looking similar, but not exactly like a chess piece, made from obsidian, appeared in her hand, and a non-crystal-caused corridor opened up, in which a Dark haired woman with deep red eyes walked out. Ophelia looked to the newcomer girl. "Neferata," she began. "You openly said you were dissatisfied with us, did you not? Tell me, do you believe this one here can make a good enough impression on you?" She asked. The girl, Neferata, would walk over to Vigilon, and would slowly walk around him as if examining him. She would then grasp Vigilon by his shoulders and stare into his eyes. Vigilon simply looked into her eyes back, but not in the way she did. For Vigilon, this was more on the awkward side. Neferata let go and walked over to Ophelia, taking the object and bringing it to Vigilon. "So Ophelia thinks we can be of use to each other." Neferata began. "With this, whether it be in your time of need or when you think the time is right, you can use it to summon me." She then leaned in to whisper into Vigilon's ear. "And for the record, It would free me from my binding to this place, so I would appreciate it." She then walked back into the corridor portal and disappeared. Ophelia looked back to Vigilon. "If she fails you when you need her, or if you reconsider the gift...my offer will still stand, if you're willing. Besides, I'm sure I can take far better care of you than she could, if you decided to stay here." She added. Vigilon blinked. The intentions with Ophelia's offer of Vampirism was becoming clear to Vigilon. Nope! Vigilon looked to an imaginary watch on his wrist. "Hoo, boy, look at the time, we gotta go!" Vigilon remarked as he was visibly sweating as his face reddened. He took Dazia and Shanno by their arms and was ready to dash off. "Do come back..." Ophelia hoped. Vigilon ran at top speed with Dazia and Shanno in tow, and the Ebony Clan's forces did not hinder the players further. As the exit was in sight, Vigilon saw Ebony Pawns and Ivory Pawns clashing against each other in battle. At least there was room to reach the exit.
Dazia 0 Posted September 11 #100 Share Posted September 11 The Ebony Queen offered rewards for the players as a token of thanks for releasing the Ebony Clan. Shanno was offered a powerful weapon, which she accepted. She then offered Dazia a ring, her description of its capabilities were vague, but Dazia had a feeling it might help her find contracts she could make, allowing her to learn of new targets more easily. Dazia was wary of this individual, but the item did seem like it could be helpful. "I accept this gift." Dazia decided, after some seconds of thinking it over. When Ophelia walked over to Vigilon, Dazia was legitimately surprised when...she turned out to be a Vampire, and proceeded to offer Vampirism to Vigilon. Unsurprisingly, however, he refused. The Ebony Queen reluctantly chose a different reward to offer, involving an NPC dissatisfied with the clan. Based on what Dazia could observe, this NPC, Neferata, was also a Vampire. Dazia began to wonder if the members of the Ebony Clan were all varying kinds of undead. Vigilon accepted the alternate gift, and Ophelia's next words would reveal her true intentions...she didn't want to actually gift Vigilon...she wanted to keep him. Dazia, of course, had no clue why...unless it was Vigilon's nervousness and slight reddening of the face, and other telltale signs of an increased heart rate that prompted this. Whatever the case, Vigilon was suddenly quick to look for an excuse to end the conversation and leave, for obviously good reason. Dazia removed Vigilon's hand from her arm, as she could keep up with him easily. The trio left with all due haste, passing by clashing pawns of the two clans. Finally, the exit was within reach. The outside world finally opened up once again. It was good to be out of the Citadel.
