[F1-SP] Learning to Forage (Earning a Living: Forager)

Recommended Posts

Rebekah had heard about a quest which helped a player gather more materials. As an aspiring chef, she knew that she was always looking for more materials. To her, it was an essential currency as part of the game, since a stockpile of consumables can be the difference between death and survival. Therefore, she was seeking out a women in green near this campsite.

Rebekah was told of the specific location to show up at. There, she found a lady who approach her. "Are you looking to learn how to efficiently gather more material?"

Rebekah responded, "Yes." Immediately, she received a quest notification show up in her quest log, it was the Earning a Living for a secondary profession. This was perfect, as she had spent the day searching for the roaming lady.

The lady's name in her quest book updated, her name was "Giovanna". Giovanna said, "I will give you a Cursed Compass, it will help you on your quest to find the rarest of rare materials, a Demonic Shard."

Rebekah's quest log had updated, it told her she was to search and seek out a rare shard and return to the cursed compass back to her.

Rebekah began to head towards The Stone Valley. As this place makes up a vast majority of the floor, it was easily navigable for the girl who was seeking to find forage for materials. After all, that was the reason why she wanted to be a forager.

Rebekah began to look around to ensure there was nothing in the vicinity. She did not want to walk into places where there were a lot of players as that implies the entire area has already been searched recently. As she got to the edge of the forest, Rebekah knew this was the perfect place to start searching, as the forest has an abundance of monsters and plants. She wondered how long it would take for her to find the lucky shard. As Rebekah walked around, she noticed the pack of wolves were avoiding her. That was good since she was strong enough to easily beat them if they began to get in her path.

After finding the material, Rebekah continued to search nearby, hopefully that more materials will spawn around the edge of the forest. As she kept walking around, she noticed a large tree with a giant trunk. She wondered, if any animals were living in the tree, and if she would be able to find any materials around it.

The girl decided to search the tree because it was a good location to start. As she begin walking around the tree and surveying the surrounding, she wondered what when was the last time she spent a day peacefully in the forest. It had been a long time since she was at the frontlines, and she was determined to get back there. But first, she needed to ensure she was strong enough first. This would involve a lot of materials as she can easily make consumables for herself to give her the extra strength to be strong enough.

The stone valley has been kind to her so far. She knew that her luck would eventually run out but while she was still lucky, she should take advantage of this situation and continue to search for materials. Rebekah did not want to spend everyday out here in the wilderness searching, so she prefer to do one large collection per week. This would set her up for the rest of the week.

It had took her a while to come up with a decent plan for the pink haired girl. As she was working on the collection, she continued to pay attention to what was around her. As she knew that the day was not yet over, she should take advantage of this cursed compass while she still has it. As expected, she already have a lot more success since her feeble attempt last week. As she continued to look for materials, Rebekah began walking towards the river.

As she approached the river, Rebekah continued to start searching for materials around the water's edge. She knew that the river would be a good place to look since a lot of wildlife can be found nearby where there is enough water. The river was not moving particularly fast, so she could wade easily wade into the water if she needed to search on the other side.

There was a lot going on around here, she could see rabbits running around collecting carrots to stockpile, and squirrels hiding acorns. She wondered if she could wait for the squirrel to leave if she could walk over there and claim additional materials. She had never done that before and would honestly feel bad if she did it. Therefore, she decided against it. After all, the squirrels have not done anything to harm her just yet. She continued walking along the edge of the river, trying to spot if there was something abnormal or any special flowers or herbs growing right along side. Nothing could be found.

There was nothing around the river. Rebekah wondered whether or not she could continue searching in this area, or return to the area where she was very successful earlier in the day. This was a temporary set back, as she knew the cursed compass was a very powerful object which could show her where more materials can be found. She decided to take out the compass and see which direction it was pointing in. It was pointing across the river.

Rebekah decided to cross the river, but she needed to find a spot where the water was shallow and slow enough for her to safely maneuver across. After all, she did not want to be swept away by the flow. She knew from previous experience that a river is very dangerous. While it might not seem like it, she knew she needed to be safe as she was alone by herself. She decided to continue walking downstream as she was looking for a suitable place to cross.

The compass was working, it had assisted her in gathering multiple materials today. Rebekah really wanted to keep it but she knew she will return it to Giovanna by the end of the day. There was nothing she could do, as she wanted this quest to end so she could free up space to tackle another quest.

As she walked along the river, she still had not found a viable place for her to cross. She noticed the compass arrow changed directions and pointed in a completely different direction. Perhaps she no longer has to cross the river. That would be a relief as she did not want to get wet today. It was not cold in the valley, so she would not get frostbite but she did not pack a change of clothes in her inventory. She thought this was a single day trip, so she wanted to pack lighter and be a lot faster in the wilderness. The Stone Valley was a wonderful place to visit, it was lively with animals and nature. She would return again in the future. As she followed the compass, she thought she saw an apple tree in front of her. As she got closer, there were no apples around for her to pick up.

After being unable to find any apples near the apple tree, Rebekah knew she had to keep searching in the forest. There has to be a material around here somewhere. She knew that this was the perfect place for materials to spawn, below the giant apple tree. Perhaps, it was not fall. She did not want to give up hope, since the compass still pointed at the tree. She decided to expand her search from just the tree to about a 20 meter radius around the tree.

She knew that if she expanded her search radius walking around this tree, then she should be able to easily find material. After all, it could just be hidden slightly out of view. This has happened to her before, when she has focused too much on the giant landmark to notice the surroundings since after all, the material spawn points may not be as obvious or out in the open as it should be. This had worked, she noticed there were some taller grass hiding the apple. She looked up and notice the tree branches extended over top of this area. Therefore, it was reasonable to have apple spawning under the apple tree but not right next to the tree trunk.

Now that she had collected materials from this tree, it was time for Rebekah to move on to another part of the The Stone Valley. She turned and looked at the compass once again. She knew that she needed to see if it would lead her to another location where more materials can be found. After all, this was her lucky charm today.

She looked around, there was nobody else in the forest today. She would have seen another player passing by. Therefore, it should be easy for her to collect materials here. Without any players around, Rebekah should easily be able to find all the locations. As she continued to walk and follow the arrows on the compass, she was looking around to see if there were any monsters capable of challenging her on this floor. None of them got in her way, and she knew she was not going to be running around picking fights with random animals if she could avoid it. After all, she was here to collect and not fight.

As the pink hair girl continued to walk around The Stone Valley, she was clearly looking for materials. Rebekah knew that she was looking for more items that she could save up for a future use. She wondered if she was ever going to get tired of material collection, but knew that it was a very important to continually have a supply of materials and col in this game.

As she kept walking, she was wondering whether or not she will find another demonic shard today, or if the compass was only good for one shard. She was very excited that she was on fire today for material collection. She was having a high success rate just walking around. As she continued to walk into the valley where there was a giant farm, she wondered if she was able to harvest some vegetables or fruits that are ripe. After all, there were several fields here.

In the first field, there were potatoes that were already ready to be harvested. She now began to move to the second field to see if she could pick anything up from this field. Rebekah wanted a wide variety of materials to collect so it would help with her chef profession. As she continued to walk around, she was trying to see if she could collect materials without putting in the effort to physically harvest any perishables.

There were nothing on this field, but there was some strawberry plants, and she wondered if she could just manually pull strawberries off the vine and it will turn into a material. There was no harm in doing that, so Rebekah decided to go ahead and to attempt to collect materials by exerting psychical force. She did not get a system notification that a material has appeared in her inventory, but the strawberry was now in her fingers. She decided to put in the basket in front of her and proceed to attempt to fill up the basket. Nothing has happened as the basket was half full.

Rebekah was wondering perhaps, she did not get to the fill line on the basket for the strawberries to be considered a material. As she continued to harvest strawberries with her bare hands in the scorching heat on the first floor. She was starting to get a bit tired, but she knew that she was so close to being able to collect an entire material.

Rebekah sat down and took a quick break and drink of water. She needed this break to think about what she was doing. Perhaps all her effort trying to fill strawberries in a basket was all for naught, and essentially wasted time? The basket was only half full, so she was going to attempt to finish the task by filling the full basket. She filled the basket to approximately three quarters full, and still nothing had happened. Rebekah decided to give up and store the basket of strawberries in her inventory, maybe it will come in handy later. She looked at her cursed compass again and decided to head towards the direction it was pointing it.

As Rebekah began to circle back towards the river, she knew that this was one of the areas where she had found lots of materials this morning. Therefore, there must had been enough time since for the materials to respawn in their designated places. While she did not know the exact timers or kept track how long ago she went through this area, she was determined to try to search for more.

As she walked past the edge of the river, where there were stones, she could not help but notice there was something shining right in front of her. When this has happened, it has always meant good things as it meant that object was a material. She walked towards it and found the material right in front of her. At first she was imagining things but this was a flower that she could harvest which grew in between the rocks between the solid ground and the water from the river nearby.

As Rebekah continued to collect materials, she knew that it was now the afternoon, and it was almost time to head back towards the campsite to return the cursed compass. That did not preclude her from stopping and collecting materials on the return trip. As she walked along the river's edge, following the same path that she came here with. She was determined to make the most of this opportunity, and continue to collect materials on such a wonderful nice sunny day on the first floor.

As she continued to walk, she kept her eyes open for anything that might resemble a material that she can collect. Generally, she has noticed it is slightly more shiny than the surrounding scenery. She does not notice anything in the rocks, or on the branches of the trees. She tried looking ahead but nothing had worked. She decided to take out the compass for another time, and did see it point ahead. She could not see up the hill, or what was behind it, but she was going to try to walk over there.

As Rebekah slowly climbed to the top of the mini hill, she saw there was another path leading her towards another clearing where there were no trees. This was a large enough space for the her to search for materials. She was thinking whether or not to begin digging for more materials but Rebekah just needed to be patient. After all, materials should be easy to collect. She took a look at where the compass was pointing now as she was had already arrived at the hill.

The compass pointed directly in front of her. "It should be here somewhere." Rebekah said.

As she continued to walk forward while looking at the compass, she saw some leaves sticking out of the ground. Rebekah walked towards it, and began to pull the vegetable out of the ground. It looked like it was some spinach growing in the ground. Without taking time to think, Rebekah pulled it out of the ground, and the spinach disappeared when she touched it. She received a notification that it had been converted into a material for her to use.

Perhaps her luck has changed in this clearing. She was looking to see if she could collect several more materials prior to the end of the day. As Rebekah kept walking, she was wondering whether or not it would be possible to find multiple materials at the same time. After all, she had only found one material every time she walked around searching for them.

As long as Rebekah was still following the compass, she should be fine. After all, the compass has not led her astray just yet. It had provided very useful results today for her. As she kept walking around looking for any plants that may be collected for future use, Rebekah stumbled on a tripped over a rock. "Oww" she cried.

That had hurt, but she did not take any fall damage. Rebekah was looking at the compass and did not watch where she was going. She should pay a lot more attention to her surroundings to ensure this does not happen again.

Rebekah slowly got up, the fall really did know the wind out of her. She went over to pick up the cursed compass which she dropped when she braced herself for the fall. Rebekah wondered if the item was broken. But it was not even damaged or dented. Therefore, she could still return the item back after everything has been completed. She had a few more hours before she needed to head home.

As she got up, she looked at the compass and hoped it would lead her to another material. She prayed that it would and continue to set off in the direction that it is pointing in. This time, Rebekah made sure not to fall or trip over anything by walking a lot slower and paying more attention to where she was walking. however, as she kept walking, she could not find anything useful that the cardinal system will classify as a material. She knew that she was missing the trademark shiny colour at the base of the object which was when she knew an actual material is there.

As Rebekah continued to walk forward, she was starting to feel the effects of spending the entire day preforming strenuous amounts of walking. She knew that she would have to go to the campsite and return back to the town for the remainder of the day. As she kept walking, she looked at the compass. It had kept pointing her in the same direction for quite a long time. She wondered if it was actually leading her to a material or back to Giovanna.

As she took another step forward, she could feel the uneven ground on the path making it harder to walk along the narrow and dusty path. At least there were not many jagged rocks nearby, since falling on them would hurt quite a lot. As she continued to walk forward, she could see the base of a plant that is shining and sparking at the base. Rebekah walks over to it, and she tries to grab the flower. The flower immediately disappears and she can feel her inventory get heavier as she received another material for her efforts today.

It was finally time for Rebekah to head back towards the campsite and return to the compass to Giovanna. It had taken her another half an hour to trek the distance to the campsite where she was waiting for her. As she made her way across the first floor to find her, she could not but help be amazed at the she was able to find where the new campsite was located.

After all, Giovanna had a tenancy to move around to various places each day on this floor, and she was meeting her at the end of the day after she made her move. Maybe it was not such a coincidence as the compass knew where she wanted to go and would help point the right direction for her. After all, she did tell it that she was done collect materials today, and she was making her way back to find the women in green, so she could finish this quest and go home.

As Rebekah approached the campsite, she turned to the blonde NPC in green, "I have returned with your cursed compass and a demonic shard." Rebekah took out the shard and gave it to Giovanna to inspect. As Rebekah returned the compass, she realized she was going to miss the tiny object. It had served her well for today.

As Rebekah began to wait for her response, she gave her the shard she collected as her reward and unlocked the foraging profession for her. She received a quest notification indicating the quest had been completed, and it was time for her to leave. She said farewell to the NPC who she will never see again, and began to make her way back to the Town of Beginnings. As she set of on her journey, she turned around and tried to wave good bye to Giovanna in the campsite.

However, it has since disappeared from view. "That was strange." Rebekah said, as she continue her way back into town trying to get there before nightfall.
