[F7-SP] Saving Rig <Case of Wurms>

Recommended Posts

Rebekah had arrived on the seventh floor's main settlement of Nimbus. It was one of those places that she had not yet visited, so she was trying to make sure she got out to visiting all of the new places in Aincrad that she has not visited yet. This was one of things on her list. The town had a different feel to it, since everything was entirely made off stone being in the middle of the mountain.

She brought her owl along, Snowball who was eager to be let out into the wild once again. Snowball had been trapped with her indoors the last few days as she was busy cooking a lot of food in her store. Some of the consumables may become useful today. It did not take them too long until she walked by a NPC who was dressed up in a suit. He introduced himself as Cyrus as he was holding onto his own cane.

"Help Me. My town has been besieged by a giant beast. Please help me save the town." Cyrus asked.

Rebekah thought about it for a second and looked at her owl. Her owl was determined to help save the town, so Rebekah decided to obliged. She had nothing else that she was planning on doing today, so she would help.

"Can you tell me where the town is?" Rebekah asked. It was at this moment she saw a quest notification pop up on her user interface.

It had taken the mayor, Cyrus, a few minutes to calm down to provide detailed instructions to Rebekah about how to travel to the city of Rig. It was not that far away. The mayor then asked Rebekah, "Are you going by yourself? It is a dangerous serpent."

Rebekah thought for a second. She was annoyed that the guy had thought that she by herself was way too weak. Actually, Rebekah was insulted by the disgusting words that he had just said. She pulled out her rapier, and showed it right to the mayor, "Do you want to say this again?" Rebekah asked.

The mayor got scared the moment the girl had pulled out her weapon. Even though the girl did not attack him and she could not inside the town, he realized he had said the wrong word, "No, you did not hear anything." Cyrus responded in a low voice.

"Good. Snowball, let's get going." Rebekah said. The owl hooted as she spoke its name. As she promptly turned her back towards the mayor and began walking out of the town in the middle of the mountain. Her owl had followed her through the streets of this settlement. She would have to come back one day to explore this place in more detail.

As Rebekah and her owl made their way through the seventh floor, they soon found themselves hiking up a mountain on a trail to head towards the town of Rig. Snowball had already left her shoulder and began to scout the nearby surroundings to check if there were any animals nearby. There were none, or at least there were none dumb enough to fight the two of them. Rebekah knew that this was a good thing since this was a rough landscape.

With the floor dominated by mountains and hills, it gave rise to a lot of bandits hiding out in the caves. Rebekah did not want to get anywhere near those bandits and get in a fight today. As she had kept walking, they could finally see the town of Rig up ahead. They were almost there, and Snowball had already returned to her side to give her the good news.

Currently, there will not be any monsters in the remaining distance to get to Rig. This will allow her to focus directly on the battle up ahead. Hopefully, the battle will not take too long to complete, as Rebekah had plans in the afternoon.

They had finally arrived at Rig. Half the town had been decimated by the green monster up ahead. Rebekah knew that it was her goal to put a stop to this, before the other half of the town got destroyed. Rebekah started to feel bad that she did not arrive fast enough to prevent the parts of the town that was already destroyed. She was going to see if she could defeat the monster all by herself, with the help of her owl. Hopefully, the battle will not take too long.

The serpent must have seen her as it turned towards her direction. Rebekah drew out her rapier and began making the first move towards the flying monster. It was at this moment, she was going to test Snowball in his first official battle. "Snowball, attack." She gave her first command.

She hoped the flying owl would be able to help distract the serpent from her first attack. After all, with the serpent looking directly at Rebekah, it was going to be hard for Rebekah to get off a surprised attack, so this was the best that she could think of. Now, it had to focus on both of their attacks in the opening round of battle.

Both Rebekah and Snowball were able to easily land strikes against the flying serpent on the opening round of battle.

Now that the serpent was stunned, Rebekah could finally begin chipping away at its health bar. She was surprised to see her attack dealing over a quarter of its health. This means the battle could potentially be finished early. This will leave her lots of time to survey the wreckage at Rig. However, she must not let her guard down now. Rebekah knew that she must stay focus to finish the battle.

It was at this moment, Rebekah knew that it was time to make another move before the stun wears off. She activated another rapier skill. As this was happening, she motioned Snowball to fly to safety. He needed to recover after that strike, so she wanted it out of harm's reach by staying out of the serpent's line of vision. Snowball happily obliged. Therefore it was only Rebekah and the boss for now. Hopefully, the battle will be over before Snowball recovers enough to get another strike.

Rebekah charged towards the serpent once again. She was able to get her strike off with ease. As the stun ended, the serpent tried to attack her but Rebekah was a little to quick. She had easily evaded the attack.

So far everything had gone well. But Rebekah knew just as good as anyone that things can change very quickly. Therefore, she knew that she needed to work on this as soon as possible knowing that there was a good possibility that the serpent may be able to bite her and poison her. She did not want that to happen, therefore, she needed to finish this battle quickly. Luckily, there was not an audience, but she suspected that some of the residents of Rig may want to return as soon as possible given that many of them had evacuated their village immediately.

Rebekah then turned to face the serpent once again. She drew out her rapier and begin channeling another sword art to strike the serpent. This time, Rebekah wanted something a bit stronger, as she wanted to get this battle over sooner rather than later. There was only one problem though.

Rebekah's strike was another flawless lunge with rapier. However, she spent too much time admiring her combat skills to not notice that the serpent had struck her and dealt some damage. It was nothing too fatal though but still it was something that she would have preferred to avoided instead.

This meant that Rebekah finally had a chance of finishing up the boss fight in four turns. This was a surprise, as she had expected the boss to be a lot stronger. However, she was not going to take a chance. She needed complete concentration. After all, she did not have any information on whether or not the boss would change attack patterns or scale up in difficultly once it is in the red with less than ten percent of its original health let.

There was no time to waste, so Rebekah went back to work. She planned on activating another sword art, and she knew that this should be enough to defeat the boss. She wanted a rest after this, so she knew that she needed to be quick. After all, she did not want to be caught out in the wild with a low energy level if this boss fight becomes extended due to her missing a strike.

Rebekah was worrying for nothing. She launched a clean strike against the serpent who easily died. She had finally defeated the serpent. It was now time to take a break before reporting back to the mayor.

Now that the giant serpent was killed, Rebekah finally got a chance to survey the damage in town. She had sent Snowball to help look for any survivors or that were trapped around here. Even though they may be NPCs, Rebekah still felt an obligation to help out. After all, she knew that maybe one day, an NPC would be willing to help her. As she walked through the rubble, she can see that entire building, businesses, homes, hotels and restaurants were destroyed.

She had never visited Rig before and wondered if the town would ever be able to recover from such a disaster that had occurred up here on the seventh floor on a mountain. She knew that it would take some resilience but she would likely come back here in a few weeks to see how the repairs had gone. As Rebekah kept walking through the rubble, she was thankful that she did not see a dead body. Then again, when things die in Aincrad they get exploded into blue pixels, so she would not see a body. As Rebekah continued to walk, she did not find anything still alive in the part of the town that was destroyed. She decided it was finally time to leave to report back to the mayor at the main settlement.

Disaster had struck the moment Rebekah had just left the town of Rig. She wondered if there was still a safety zone inside. But regardless, the moment she had stepped on to the trail. Four strong and sturdy mountain goats with a giant horn were blocking her path. Rebekah could see they would not budge, so Rebekah would have to carefully navigate a combat situation facing them up here on the mountain.

Rebekah knew that this was dangerous given the tiny bit of room she had to fight these goats in. The path was barely narrow enough to have a fight, but that was not going to stop her. She needed to get past these goats as soon as possible as she wanted to go home. Rebekah took out her rapier and began channeling her sword skill. She had noticed that she was not fully recovered yet from her last battle but she should have just enough energy to survive this round of combat.

Without waiting for the goats to attack, Rebekah decided to make the first move. The first goat had managed to dodge her attack, but not the other three goats.

Since the majority of the goats were still stunned on this narrow path, Rebekah knew that she wanted to take this opportunity to defeat three of the four goats on this upcoming turn. This would allow her enough time to rest and recover and make sure that the there will be more room to maneuver around. There was only one problem. The single goat that was not stunned was making it difficult for her as it stood in between her and the other three stunned goats.

Rebekah would need a way to distract its attention. She had the perfect idea. Snowball, her owl would do the trick. Snowball was intelligent enough to read Rebekah's mind. Therefore, it began fainting an attack at the goat. The goat froze for a second ignoring Rebekah. This as just enough time to get between all four goats to activate a sword art that would be an area of effect attack. This attack would not have worked as well if she was not in the middle of the four goats that were blocking her path down the mountain from Rig.

That was the perfect move as Rebekah managed to strike all four goats. The three stunned goats had immediately died upon the impact of Rebekah's rapier. It was a job well done, now she just need to finish the battle against the remaining goat. Rebekah was also able to dodge the goat's attack with ease.

With only a single goat remaining, Rebekah could finally breath a sigh of relief. She knew that even one goat is dangerous but it was not as bad as facing four at once. She could finally afford to relax a slightly bit, just enough so that she was not very tense. As she thought about her next course of action, she knew that she needed to get back to town to report on the slain serpent. This meant that the goat must be killed so she can leave. As she walked around, she thought about all the time that she had killed monsters.

She was not a killer but this was a life and death situation. It happens quite often in this game. Snowball hooted once again to distract the goat. This will give Rebekah the opening to strike the goat, hopefully she was accurate enough as the goat saw her at the last moment to attempt to dodge.

With that last animal killed, Rebekah could finally sit down on a nearby rock to catch her breath and slowly look to begin some energy. She was tired from fighting multiple battles in a row.

As Rebekah sat down, it was finally time for her to take out a snack and re-energize. Snowball had stopped flying and sat down next to her on a nearby rock as well. Rebekah had packed a sandwich and some green tea for today's excursion. She was surprised that she was not suffering from high altitude sickness. The only remedy for that was to descend the mountain immediately. However, she was feeling a little bit of a shortness of breath due to the lack of air this high up on the mountain. Therefore, she was not surprised she needed this break from fighting.

The good news is that she now only has to go downhill where the air is a lot thicker and it would be easier to breathe. This was the best news she had all day. As she finished her drink and sandwich, she knew it was now time to go. She got back up and began slowly walking down the narrow trail.

She feels a lot better than she had ten minutes ago.

As both Snowball and Rebekah continued to walk down the mountain. It was finally time that they can finally enjoy the scenery of the mountain. It was stunning. It had been a while since she was last able to see something like this. She must have not looked down on their way to the city of Rig. I think it has to do with how it was a never a good idea to look down if you were nervous about heights.

It was different on the way down as Rebekah began descending. It also forced her to look at this direction to get down from the mountain. Snowball was now not flying very far overhead, so Rebekah can speak to him as he was nearby. "Does it always look like this when you are flying?" She asked.

It was a rhetorical question, but Rebekah wanted a response from her owl. Snowball responded by hooting in a cheerful manner once again. The answer was yes. It did make sense given that Snowball was constantly flying all day, and was used to looking at heights.

Rebekah continued to walk down the mountain on this path. Now that they were a lot lower in altitude, she could see a lot more vegetation in the surrounding environment. She had missed this part while on this floor. The high elevation was very boring to look at. There was only exposed rock in the traditional rock colour.

Inside the tree line, everything is a lot prettier, with nature being ever so present and entire ecosystems of animals. There was a downside now, as there were more animals Rebekah had to look out for. It was not just the few animals who can survive in the harsh terrain but it was now a forest. She wondered whether or not she could get back safely inside the mountain cave before she had faced another animal. She was soon to find out if she could do it. The entrance into the underground city was only up ahead, Rebekah knew that she was very close, only another 15 minutes of walking was left.

Rebekah wanted to curse one again. Standing near the entrance to the town in front of her were 4 bears that were in the forest near the entrance of the city of Nimbus. She knew that there was no other way to handle this except to fight for her way to get into the city. This was the only option Rebekah had. She did not want to waste her time trying to go around the bears, and hoping she made it in safely.

Besides, she had also felt an obligation to clear the roadblock for another person who wanted to trek up this path especially since they may not be as strong as her to face four adult bears. This was a situation where Rebekah had done so many times already that she knew instinctively what to do. There was only one move to make which was her opening signature attack against a group of animals. At least she was slowly gaining experience and rewards for her efforts here today.

Rebekah made the first attack against the four bears that were in front of her. The attack had successfully struck and stunned all four bears immediately. This gave her an immediate advantage on successfully surviving this combat.

With the four bears successfully stunned, Rebekah now had an opportunity to defeat the bears and head into the safety of the town to report her successful conquest of the giant serpent that had terrorized Rig. She knew that this was an important move, since she could finally end the battle with this single move.

There was only one thing that she had to look out for. This was complacency given that the bears had already been stunned and cannot move. This should be an easy attack for Rebekah but she needed to pay attention to ensure that she does not get into any trouble here. Therefore, Rebekah waited for the right moment, and then she tried to make her move now. It was important for Rebekah to hold off and find her footing before striking. The last thing she needed was to make a blunder for herself here. There was going to be one chance for her. It was now.

Rebekah managed to strike three of the four bears. The result was not bad, but it could have been better. She easily evaded the only remaining bear attack with ease. Even after wearing heavy armour, she still have it.

A single bear was all that was standing in her way from finishing this quest and going into town and ending her day. Rebekah knew that this was going to be a difficult situation. If the bear could stall for long enough, then this means she may miss her afternoon meeting. She had plans to do something this afternoon and the last thing she wanted to happen is to be held up by a bear who was strong at evading her attacks.

Rebekah hoped Snowball can provide another distraction once again by flying around it aggressively, so the bear can lose its complete focus on Rebekah. That was the plan, but Rebekah did not know how well that would work. All Rebekah needed was one clean attack for this whole round of combat to be over. She wondered if she was overthinking it so she just decided to attack now. It was better to do that right away than try to think too much about something that should be done on instincts.

The bear finally died, and the path into the city was finally cleared.

As soon as Rebekah had entered back inside the underground town, the mayor was right there waiting for him. "How did it go?" He asked.

Rebekah then decided to tell him that the town had been saved as the serpent has been defeated. It was at this time that she received the notification indicating that the quest had been successfully cleared. It was finally done. Rebekah can now spend a little bit of time exploring this town that she had set out to do originally before this quest had spawned today. She knew it was an interesting place, being hidden inside the mountain and filled with light coming from the gems that light up the buildings.

There was a nice contrast around here with the green light shining inside the dark stony buildings. It was not all dark but just bright enough to see. This was a mining town, so Rebekah wondered if she could also be able to find some rare materials.

Now that her original goal is finished, Rebekah made her way towards the a cafe in the settlement of Nimbus. She was enjoying the vibe of this floor, and she knew that this was a good place to try out some local desserts. Being high up in the mountain, she was not expecting a lot in terms of the drinks but she was surprised to find a niche store selling coffee in a cafe and doughnuts. It was an interesting combination, but she was not going to question it.

Rebekah had sat down and order a french vanilla drink. It had tasted fine nothing too out of the ordinary, and began to ate her pastry. It was nice to be able to wind down and relax at the end of such a long day. Rebekah knew that she would like to visit thsi floor again one day in the future. She looked at the time, she had somewhere to attend to.

As Rebekah began to leave the shop and head back towards the teleportation gate. She could not help but wonder there was a lot of guards wondering around the streets patrolling. All of the NPCs carried a weapon which was visible in town. She wondered if this had something with the swarm of animals she saw dominating this entire floor. Everyone else was also wearing a green crystal around their necks. Perhaps it was part of the attire of this town.

She looked around and saw a small street stall selling one of the crystals. She decided to make a purchase given that she wanted one just like how everyone else in this town was also wearing the same thing. She had learned this was a way to protect themselves as the monsters do not like this green light. It can also function as a last minute source of light in the dark akin to a flashlight for emergency uses. This may come in handy one day, so she made sure to keep it with her whenever she will return to this floor. The green crystal necklace which is a flashlight.
