[F02 - PP] Ghost/Koga <<Breaking The Unbreakable>>

Recommended Posts

Opening the back door, YunXiang looked back at Koga and Ghost, his face cheerful yet serious at the same time. “You and Dandelion now will meditate, pupil Koga! How Dandelion reacted just now, not only showed her will, but also her temperament. Both of which are extremely useful weapons of the spirit; granted, that is only if those weapons can be controlled. There are some outfits better suited for this next task by the door, along with a room for privacy while changing into them if you do desire! When you both are ready, follow behind the dojo, and meet me at the end of the cave.”

The master turned, and walked calmly out the door, headed into a dark cavern. Ghost stared blankly at where YunXiang once stood, before turning to Koga thoughtfully and signing. So, has everything he has done so far been lessons? I don’t feel as if I have learned anything. She gave a small smile as her hands dropped, her head tilting to the side curiously. Despite Master YunXiang not being what she expected, she still felt like she was enjoying herself. Perhaps it was due to Koga’s company, and maybe the fact that the past few weeks where she had been around him and Nari and NIGHT have been actually eventful. It felt like she was actually accomplishing something.

Nodding, Ghost turned and walked toward the rear door of the dojo, to see what exactly the master had meant by ‘outfits’, only to be met by a two piece bikini set and a pair of swimming trunks, hanging right by the door as YunXiang said. She stared surprised with curiousity, and tapped on the bikini to make the item menu appear, reading the subtext.

Swimming Attire
Outfit Cosmetic (Vanity)
[Can be equipped without any interference to weapon/armor/item buffs]

…Staring at the two piece, frankly, Ghost couldn’t even recall the last time she’d even wore one.

Meditation. Yeah, that was definitely new to the quest. Koga could not recall any mention of meditating the first time he'd taken this quest. Admittedly, that part sounded nicer than hours of pounding a stone into sand, but the man knew that that trial still lay ahead.

Turning back to Ghost, the man shrugged his shoulders. "I mean, I guess? Seems like a shitty attempt at 'wise old master' mixed in with 'fucking creep'. But hey, if it gets you the skill, that's all that matters, right?" the man said, before mussing with Ghost's hair, and then walking towards the door. "C'mon, let's go see what the old man has in store for us next."

Bathing suits. The answer was bathing suits.

"You have got to be kidding me..." Koga muttered to himself as he picked up the pair of swim trunks that Master YunXiang had laid out for them, then at Ghost. "There better be a waterfall involved in all this, or I'm punting that old man into an early grave," Koga said before looking around for...well...privacy...The man could hardly imagine Ghost being comfortable undressing in front of him, and he wasn't exactly eager to strip down in front of her either.

Thankfully, it seemed that the pervy master wasn't all that bad, as a set of small changing smalls had been set up against the wall of the cave. "Uh, I guess we should go get changed," the man said as he walked over and entered one.

Ghost froze a bit as Koga had taken a hand to her hair, the sensation coming out of nowhere and causing her to jump a bit, but quickly readapted. It… felt nice. Looking over at Koga, who was examining his swimming trunks, she nodded with his response about the waterfall. Based on how Master YunXiang had acted up to now, a waterfall would be a pleasant space for meditation.

Watching as Koga walked into one of the changing stalls, she looked toward her own stall and then down at her bikini. Since it’s a game, the size should automatically adjust just like other clothing here… right? Shrugging it off, she slipped into the stall, quickly slipping out of her current clothes and into the swimsuit…

…Nope, it feels tight.. but it fits well enough? Stepping out of the stall, Ghost did her best to adjust the two piece, her other clothing put back into her inventory. The bottom was well fit, accentuating her petite curves but not too much. The top, however, seemed a little too well fitting, latching to her chest as if it were a second skin. She didn’t pay it no mind though, at least not in the way that she probably should. The bikini was a light blue, with lavender trim. Looking at herself, she was honestly satisfied with its look. She might favorite this cosmetic for future events, if any.

Koga stepped out a bit before Ghost, his own apparel much easier to take on and off than her. Leaning against the wall he waited until she stepped out again and the man's eye grew wide, blinked and then grew wider. "Uh, that looks...good on you..." the man stuttered as he struggled to keep his eyes on Ghost's face. A struggle that took all of Koga's willpower, every single second, just to succeed. Yes, it was a bikini, and yes, they were meant to show off a little skin and what not. But for some reason, that fact didn't really make it any easier to take in Ghost's current appearance. Screw making sure his eyes didn't wander, Koga was going to feel worse if his mind did instead.

Turning away and breathing deeply to clear his head, the man exhaled and then gestured for Ghost to follow. "C'mon, don't wanna keep the old guy waiting," he said, before starting towards the far end of the cavern.

Ghost looked up at Koga as he stuttered his reply, surprised and slightly embarrassed by the compliment. Needless to say, she was still not used to comments on her appearance, but she bowed in thanks nonetheless. Then, she glanced at Koga’s new attire. His physique was evenly toned, appearing more athletic than even his usual appearance let on. Smooth and clean complexion, his hair disheveled from changing most likely. The same piercing tired crimson eyes, albeit shifting and avoiding direct eye contact, which Ghost did mark as odd. All in all, to Ghost he looked like a heart throb from one of those advertisements, with the actor on a beach. She didn’t react to this thought though, deliberately mentally preparing her brain for this the moment she went into the stall. But, judging by his reaction, she could sense that maybe something was off. Perhaps… he felt awkward too, in his swimwear?

"C'mon, don't wanna keep the old guy waiting," she heard him say, turning away from her and walking out the door, to which Ghost quickly followed in thought. Maybe he needed encouragement? She decided that was possibly the case, and took a deep breath, battling off her anxiety as best as she could before tugging on his arm, like she did back at Ming Garden. In a moment of hesitantly letting her guard fully drop, she gave him a warm smile, completely different from her usually motionless face, and signed to him as they entered the cave.

Yours looks good on you too, Koga kun.

It wasn't more than a few steps before Koga felt a hand grasp his arm. Turning towards the girl who grabbed him, the look she gave him...She smiled, the first real expression she'd ever shown him. A soft smile spread across the man's face, a faint heat burning at the tips of his ears. "Th-thanks, Ghost," the man said softly, before looking ahead towards whatever came next, making no move to remove her hand from his arm.

The roaring of a waterfall soon reached their ears faintly, echoing off the walls as they walked further into the cave. Candles placed into alcoves carved into the wall illuminated their path, a faint orange glow alighting their faces. "Wow...I didn't actually think he'd have us meditate under a waterfall..." Koga muttered quietly, reminded of his own Calming the Soul quest some weeks ago. "I guess the old geezer isn't as crazy as I thought."

Ghost nodded in agreement, finding the sounds of the rushing water soothing above all else. Ghost’s smile relaxed back into its semi blank look, but her posture softened greatly, still holding onto Koga’s arm absently once more. A few seconds more, and they stood at the opening of a large cavernous pool of crystal clear water, illuminated by glowing blue tint from the bottom of the pool and gems from the roof of the cave. In the center of the pool, a single humongous Boulder rested atop a floating slab similar to if it were a shrine, and behind it, a glistening waterfall, of which produced a thin mist that reflected the light of the glowing blue gems like fleeting stars. The water splashed down onto two other slabs directly under it, creating the solid and satisfying smack that echoed through the cave. Ghost looked around in awe, finding the cave beautiful, captivating and yet also mysterious.

“I’m relieved that you have begun to accept my genius, Pupil Koga!” the master’s voice could be heard. Ghost curiously looked around, but didn’t see him anywhere. “Up here, Dandelion.” As she and Koga would look up, they’d notice YunXiang in a meditative pose on a rock, at the top of the waterfall. He was now tubeless and in a typical white fundoshi, his legs crossed and his hands in a position that signified the gathering of chi to his core. Despite his obviously old age, YunXiang’s arms, torso and legs were all jacked and warworn, having various scars along his limbs, back and chest.

”Dandelion, Pupil Koga, this shall be your second trial,” the master spoke out to them, his eyes closed and his smile returning. “You shall walk out, into the water, and to the platforms beneath this waterfall. You shall rest underneath the waterfall, and reflect. You shall reflect upon yourself; your actions up until now, your determinations, your future aspirations, the fueling fire within your soul that defines who you are!”

The sight that Koga and Ghost came upon was breathtaking, to say the least. A scene far more impressive than what Koga had experienced however many years ago. He felt the urge to say as much, but was interrupted by the sound of the Master YunXiang's voice addressing him. Koga's eyes shifted to the source of the sound, quick to find the master sitting up at the mouth of the falls, exactly like one would expect him to be in some kung-fu action movie.

Wordlessly, Koga waded into the pools, and sat crossed-legged within in, the water striking his back and cascading around his shoulders. Pressing his fingertips together in his lap, the man closed his eyes and took a deep breath. A slow breath in. A slow exhale out. Though the man found this a tad harder than when he'd been transported within his own mind to literally fight his own inner demons, there was also the fact he didn't have to literally fight his own inner demons. Several breath cycles passed before Koga fell into a rhythm and found the calm empty feeling he'd come to know.

Ghost watched as Koga had went in, and awkwardly followed as he did. Despite having dealt with Martial arts training in real life, she’d never been taught anything accurately on actual meditation or how to perform it. All the same, she understood the general concept of the practice, and assumed that she could replicate the process simply enough and hopefully get the desired result. Taking a deep breath, she slowly got up and onto the slab, feeling the sharp pressure of water from the falls pelting her shoulders, almost like a deep massage.

Sitting down under the falls as Koga did, she relaxed as best as she could, and tried to tune everything out. As she closed her eyes, and focused for several minutes, she noticed internally that the sound of the waterfall distorted into her mind and became the sound of cheap chirps of a thousand birds, the coldness of the slab beneath her becoming moss, the misting water on her shoulders becoming a conduit of energy pulling into her being.

The energy was unstable… but why? She tried to dig deeper, listening and feeling for anything that would give her a hint… As she did, the noises all grew stronger.

and sharper.

and louder.

(“…..Ghost, RUN!!!”)

As those words echoed in her head, Ghost’s eyes shot open, and she jumped out from underneath the waterfall, launching herself into the water in pure panic. The girl seemed almost feral for a moment, on the verge of hyperventilation as she held herself and rested her back against the base of the slab.

With each breath, Koga envision his emotions, his thoughts, as clouds of smoke, steam and mist. On each inhale, he gathered each of these in his lungs, and with each exhale, he expelled them, releasing them from his body and allowing them to disperse. Again and again he did this, until he was empty, and his mind allowed thoughts to pass through them like the water in a stream. This and that, people, things, acts, all stayed for no more than a moment before leaving. It was a quiet reverie.

And that reverie was suddenly shattered, the sound of frantic splashing breaking through the calm like it was a pane of glass. Blue light materialized Koga's katana as he shot to one knee, blade partly drawn as he searched for whatever target threatened them, only to find none. Looking over at Ghost, the girl wide-eyed with duress, he looked in the direction she was and still saw nothing.

His weapon dispelled in an instant as the man scrambled over to the girl and took hold of her shoulders. "Ghost, calm down breathe," he commanded, voice stern but unthreatening. "Breathe, it's just us."

Her vision was blurred, her ears ringing, her heart racing. Everything seemed like it was slowing down… Or maybe her mind was just speeding up. Her blood seemed to boil under her skin as she did her best to make the voice fade away on her own, like a petrifying screech of chalk against a board to her brain, words from the past that made her entire body curl into itself in fear, anger, pain, and more…

“Ghost, calm down, breathe… Breathe… It’s just us..”

She heard Koga’s voice faintly, and her vision slowly came back to her. The sounds and voice slowly reverted, from the chirping of birds back to splashing of water, the energy stopping for now. She… was in the cave with Koga, she remembered now… She looked up at him, her mouth a thin unmoving line, and her eyes wide, brows furrowed from stressed frustration and frantic anxiety. She felt his hands on her shoulders, her heart slowing back down, her hands slowly relaxing from her sides. Taking deep breaths, in and out, her face slowly relaxed, and she seemed to be calm once again, despite obviously still emotionally shaken.

After a moment, Ghost reached her shaking hands out to Koga weakly, leaning in for a hug. She didn’t know what else to do; until her mind was fully back, this was the best that she could do…

Slowly, her breath slowed down, no longer deep heaving draws of air. Clarity began to return to her pale, lavender and Koga gently smiled at her, brushing some stray strands of hair out of her face and tucking them behind her ear. "There we are. See? You're okay. Everything's fine. It's just us," he said in the most comforting tone he could muster.

The man gently rubbed the girl's shoulders, up and down as she returned to reality. Still shaken, but in reality. The girl reached out towards him, and Koga pulled her close to him, her head resting beneath his chin as he rubbed his hand in large, slow circles across her back in a comforting manner. "You're okay," he gently reminded her, and doing so until she let him go.

Released from her embrace, he gently squeezed her shoulder once more before looking into her eyes with a single question on his tongue. "Are you okay?"

After several moments, melting into the comfort she was being given which she had never really had before from anyone outside of her parents… Ghost gently pulled away, looking down at the water. Koga’s voice was therapeutic, more so now than usual. It helped her rebalance her mind, and she slowly looked over at her shoulder, the left of her chest where the small tattoo was. In the bikini, it was fully visible; a fox, holding a rose in its mouth, its tail curling into a circle around it.

Hearing Koga’s question, she looked up at him, and thought for a moment before nodding. Her face had returned to its soft calm expression, but her cheeks were lightly tinted. She was embarrassed to explain what was now on her mind, especially given the situation and their position. Bringing her hands up to sign, she responded.

Your hands.. They’re soft, she explained, thinking about the feeling of his fingers brushing her messed hair from her face. Her face blank, she inwardly smiled; this man was a lot sweeter than it seemed he gave himself credit for…. She knew he was good people.

Koga followed Ghost's gaze as her eyes drifted away from his and to her shoulder, where a small tattoo of a fox and rose sat imprinted into her skin. Another question drifted into Koga's mind as his eyes flicked back to Ghost's face, but the man held his tongue. There'd be another time and place for those kinds of questions.

"Your hands.. They’re soft," she signed to him, drawing out a quiet chuckle as he finally sat back a little, propping an arm up on his knee. "Thanks, Ghost. Ya know, if you keep giving me compliments like this, I might end up growing one hell of an ego," he joked, before shifting his gaze upwards. "Think the old man fell asleep up there?" Koga whispered to Ghost. "I don't think he's moved a muscle since we started." Not even when Ghost had started to splash about in the water did Koga hear the man stir even a little bit. "Maybe he finally kicked the bucket."

“Not quite,” the master smoke out, lightly cracking his eye to look down at the two. Sighing, he jumped down from his perch And landed next to the Boulder by the center of the pool, glancing over at Koga and Ghost. “You both have performed as expected! Pupil Koga, you’ve clearly grown since the last time I have witnessed your training. Both in body, and in mind! Although as a mentor I only give you a path, I still find pride in watching how far you have come. As for Dandelion… You show promise. More than you give yourself credit for, even. But, the winds of the past might whisk the will of your future down a different path… if you are not careful.” Ghost looked over at him in understanding; the past haunts her in every choice that she may make. But in the end, she needs to be willing to change that, to better herself for the people around her… and for Sana. YunXiang then brought up his hands, performing a simple long line of signs that Ghost could understand. Her eyes widened for a moment, but then they relaxed once more, and she nodded in response.

YunXiang nodded back, a kind smile on his face, before he gestured to the rock he stood next to. “Dandelion, Pupil Koga… this is your final task. One that Koga knows all to well, although he may find it much easier now. Using only your hands, you must destroy this Boulder, through the power of not only your fists, but also your spirit. This Boulder signifies the obstacles of your future, the walls and shackles that keep you from moving onward. Through your body, and your soul, you must break these bonds.”

”Only then, will you truly be ready, Dandelion, to walk toward the light of the future of which you long for, and face the past of which clouds your way. Once you are done, you both may join me for tea, if you’d like.” With that, the master bowed lightly, and made his way through the water and out the cave, whistling to himself in a calming tone. Ghost took another deep breath, and stood next to Koga, preparing herself for the final task.

The sound of Master YunXiang's voice reached their ears, and Koga hung his head in disappointment. Of course the old guy was still kicking. Koga wished he could say he was surprised. But, the old man seemed to still have some life in him after all.

Water dripped from Koga's swimwear as he stood, looking up at the elderly man as he said his piece. Wise words, words of caution that Ghost would do well to heed. Even if Koga was not the crazed master's biggest fan, he had to admit that the old man gave some sage advice.

The master then indicated to them their last task, the one Koga dreaded the most. That goddamn boulder. With a sigh Koga stared up at the stupid thing. "We better get up there and get started," he said as moved towards the rock wall to start climbing. "We'll be here all night if we don't start soon."

Ghost was drawn from her thoughts, hearing Koga as he walked toward the rock wall and began to climb it. Gathering her bearings, she started walking up toward the wall and did the same. It was a bit awkward at first, finding her footing, but once she’d gotten into a rhythm, she made her way up the wall fairly quickly, almost catching up to Koga before they had reached the top.

After reaching the top, Ghost stood up, and instantly felt the bottoms of her swimwear start to become uncomfortable. Blushing, she fixed it as quickly as she could, before Koga had the notion to turn around. Once she had, she quickly turned her attention to the target at hand; the Boulder. Examining its statistics, Ghost’s eyes widened. 75 HP?? Feeling a bit discouraged at first, she then looked at her own stats.

Hmmmm… Nine?? Where did I get nine damage from?? …Three from the bandages,Three from the Liquor of light.. and a physical training buff plus-two? When did I get that?! Shaking her head and shrugging it off, she looked over at Koga and nodded in confirmation, before dashing at the Boulder, aiming to attack head on.

Feeling the impact of her first hit against the solid stone, she felt an immense pressure pulsate like a gust of wind from the impact, a loud thud resounding from the stone as she hit it, her eyes widened, and despite not smiling it was clear that she was happy with the damage that she had done. For once since coming here, she felt like she could actually defend herself. She looked back at Koga, curious if he had noticed her improvement.

A perk about cliff diving that Koga never really thought too much about was that he was prepped better than most to climb wet rocks while soaking wet himself. He knew how to cling to the slippery rocks, leverage himself so as to not lose his grip. In truth, it wasn't terribly different from normal rock climbing, save for the fact that he didn't have the luxury of friction, and thus, required much more care.

Suffice it to say, Koga made it to the top a bit quicker than Ghost did, and once the man had hoisted himself over the ledge, he glared at the boulder with disdain. 75 HP, now it was nothing to him, but back when he was just a new player, finding his footing, that 75 HP had been 75 HP of absolute pain and frustration. Hopefully now, he'd get his vengeance.

The man turned back to check on Ghost's progress just as she finished readjusting her outfit, and action which the man thought nothing of. Nodding towards the boulder, the man said "Go ahead and start it. It's your quest after all."

The man watched as the girl took a running start at the boulder, winding up and striking it, more than a tenth of it's health disappearing in that instance. That...was actually a decent start. Wordlessly, Koga took up a spot beside Ghost, and fell into a typical mid-guard. A short pause, and fired off a quick cross, every muscle in his body assisting in putting power behind the thundering strike. Power that would not go unfelt by the boulder, which lost almost half it's health in that single instance. The impact echoed through the cavern as shards of stone exploded outwards, a small crater left behind at the point of impact, like some shonen anime. A slow grin spread across the man's face. Oh, vengeance was sweet indeed.

Feeling the wind off of Koga’s singular strike, watching the crater form and the HP drop a full thirty points, Ghost’s eyes widened significantly. Thirty points… It took bandages and item buffs and a mystery buff to get her to Nine damage, and Koga easily more than tripled her output. Just thinking of how much experience she would have to gain to do that was unreal… Ghost looked over at Koga blankly, but her eyes almost appearing watery, her resolve faltering as she realized just how much time she’d wasted in the town of Beginnings when she could’ve been bettering herself like this the entire time.

Hanging her head, she sighed and got back into position. She wasn’t going to let that get her down; memorizing how Koga had hit the Boulder, she breathed in deep and concentrated all of her power into her strike, letting loose with her own punch which echoed through the cave, not nearly as loud as Koga’s did but enough that it was noticeable.

Looking up at the Boulder’s health bar, she noticed it went down by ten points this time instead. Straightening back up, Ghost gave a very small smile, the hand she used for the attack brought to her chest in thought. Sure, she may not be able to do as much damage right now… but she’s improving, slowly. Even if Koga destroys the Boulder in his next attack, she was satisfied with knowing that she was making progress.

Satisfied with his performance, the man took a step back from the boulder, appraising his work, glee running through his body. He didn't really care what the exact numbers were, or how satisfying it was to finally get back at the thing that had tormented him, the speed at which they were going to finish. Yes, that was more than enough for the man.

Looking over at Ghost though, she seemed less enthused, a slight sheen of wetness in her eyes as she stared up at him, the slightest tremble in her form. Okay, maybe he'd shown off a little too much...A pang of guilt pierced the man's chest, and he reached out and gently rested his hand on the girl's head, a gesture of comfort, as strange as it was. "Hey, I'm proud of you for getting this far on your own," he told her. "We're not done yet though. Go on," he nodded to the boulder again. "Show me what you got."

The man took yet another step back as she delivered a surprisingly powerful blow, a small impact crater of her own left behind, evidence of her having been here. Another small smile snuck onto Koga's face once more, as the Boulder fell dangerously within finishing range. "Hey, look at that," he commented, "we're almost there." He looked at the girl again. "Is it okay if I finish this thing off so we can get outta here?" he asked her. A nod of assent was all that needed, and Koga stepped up once more. One more punch, that was all that was needed, and that was all that was delivered. A swift strike echoed once more through the cavern, and the boulder's health gauge depleted entirely. For a moment, nothing seemed to happen, and then a great cracking sound of stone splitting slowly crept into the silence, just before the boulder split in half, the two hemisphere rolling onto their sides.

The unbreakable was broken.
