“I knew we couldn’t trust her…” The words came out as a harsh whisper as Nari followed NIGHT’s gaze, only to find Gianna missing from their position. She’d not even noticed the individual rush off into the night. Turning back to face the camp itself, she cast a questioning glance at NIGHT, unsure of their next move.

“As much as I’d love to, there’s no way I’m sneaking past that many goblins. You may be able to disappear from sight, but at best I can not sound like a drum set falling down a twenty story apartment building’s staircase. At best.” She looked back at the camp, gauging how far they’d have to go. The only thing that confirmed was that it was too far. “Option two is we rush through – move so quickly they can’t react fast enough to our presence. And…I feel like with our friend missing, that chance is quickly disappearing. Any other thoughts?”

She waited, relatively impatiently for NIGHT’s response. She didn’t like that their guide – if she could even be called that, at this point – had disappeared entirely. It didn’t bode well, and Nari wasn’t a fan of being betrayed. She was thankful that the scenario before them kept her mind off it, for the moment – kept the emotions bottled for what she figured would be an explosive outlet later. ‘Gianna had better hope that I don’t find her, lest she learn that even Cardinal’s pets can be broken.’

"i could draw him in," night figured, eyes still trained on the goblin chief. it still felt weird to be performing the maneuver away from nari, breaking the setup of their party thus far. and yet it was the quickest plan she could draft in her head, that reliability towards performing feats on her own. better she did it quick, then, and then duck out -- because while they needed chaos, yes, she wasn't keen on being swarmed with a number of creatures to overwhelm her position, either.

so she rose, hesitant, a slight shake as her sword formed in her hand. stealth was only somewhat reliable, despite her use of it consistent in the past. one wrong move would give her away, and granted that moving towards the camp would've meant her being out in the open, it left more opportunities for the trickster to mess up.

but she hadn't needed to take a step forward before there was a screech from within the campsite. and night nearly stumbled backwards into nari, eyes squinting trying to search what was up in the commotion. a small purple something was darting about in the air, breathing fire and squeaking loudly as the other goblins about it tried to scramble and flee. some designated few, robed in some bones, were stuck jumping upwards trying to fetch the tiny thing. and in the midst of it all was a smear she could make out to be gianna, running wild past the chief that had stood idle just a second ago, his axes swinging heavily and loosely behind her fleeted movements.

"orsyn, this way!"

there was no audible reply, but just as the leader was pulling his weapons back in for another slash, his attack was interrupted by a buffet of the wings of that dragonling over head, the duo headed towards the players' location. alarmed, all night could do was look towards nari, nodding towards the chaos with widened eyes. "should we head in or fall back?"

“Hey, wait-“ The words hissed from her mouth as NIGHT stood and drew her sword, clearly preparing to head off alone. She reached out her right hand in an attempt to grab the girl, before realising that she had stopped moving – her eyes drawn to the commotion in the middle of the camp. “What in the nine-“

Nari watched as the winged finger seemed to bound through the goblin camp, the distant call of a familiar voice leading it onwards. She barely noticed Gianna’s form gliding through the ranks of the goblins, dodging attacks that were meant to bring her down – before making her way across to their position.

“She’s coming this way. Get behind me.” The calmness of her battle-hardened voice had returned. Sliding her right foot forward, she braced the shield on her knee. Levelling her spear outwards, she watched as the goblin chief raced after Gianna, the few minions that followed either trampled by their companions, or scared off by the soft bursts of the dragonling above them.

“Morríghan ar iasacht dom neart.” She whispered the words, before glancing towards the larger creature wielding two battle axes like some crazed being. “If you wish to greet Death, do so with a smile! Tar freastal ar do dheireadh, créatúr!”

she wasn't going to ask if it was in wariness of gianna, the dragonling or the goblin chief. night obeyed either way, falling into step behind her tank, eyes set to the dual-wielding foe that chased after the fleeing pair. out from the brush they'd intercepted the runners, only to meet the war leader as he readied a frenzied charge.

"new opponents?! better match for ubwaba than chasing babies!"

and night chased those falling axe blades, the edge of her sword catching them mid-air as she shifted in front of her tank. the chieftain pressed down against its side, the force of which called her blade to chime in response, harsh and loud. a pulse, that momentary dark sent the goblin off-kilter, metal of his weapons repelled in that push. the player merely followed on that opening, sword glowing full, the white of her slash upon ubwaba a blinding light.

there wasn't enough time for the goblin to have been thrown back, hitting the floor before he burst into pieces. but what mattered more was in that single moment his health bar had reached zero, scream let loose from dried green lips, a shadow was cast overhead before them, stealing night's attention but for only a split moment. what covered the skies was a figure of dark violet, and she felt its presence sooner than she'd registered what she'd saw.

the ground shuddered behind nari as a gust of wind bellowed all there was surrounding them -- trees, encampment tents, the grass all bent to its will. night stumbled, and only counted herself lucky to have been hit with the slightest blast of gust from that dragon afterwards, realizing her tank had taken the brunt of that force. a deep voice, almost ambient in the land would send shivers down even the goblins that had intended on following up on their leader's attack.

gaindogrig loomed over the players with glowing eyes and a hollow sneer.

"i'm here. now... smile."

The larger goblin disappeared beneath the single strike of NIGHT’s blade, seemingly swallowed up by a glint of darkness before exploding into shards. Nari felt her spear and shield drop slightly, before the shadow descended upon them.

Glancing up towards the sky, she could see the cause of the sudden darkness – the large, dragon form hovering above them, slowly gliding towards their position. Nari listened as it spoke, likely meant to sound threatening – but in her calm state she couldn’t resist the words that slipped from her throat.

“NIGHT, whatever you did to the poor goblin can you take it back? You somehow made it less scary.” Somehow, although she’ll never know how, she managed to keep a straight, stoic face as she spoke. Her eyes focused on the dragon, she considered her options.

Another quick glance towards NIGHT, and her decision was made. Striding towards the large form, she raised her spear upwards, attempting to catch the creature’s attention as she cried out towards it. “Morríghan, buail síos an beithíoch romham!”

Without taking her eyes off the dragon, she called back to her companion. “Now would be a really good time to put this thing out of its miserable life.”

Gaindogrig the Demon | HP: 400/400 | DMG: 100 | MIT: 75 | EVA: 2

Might of Gaindogrig | On an BD 9, Gaindogrig will ram the player with the most hate using his horns, dealing an additional 15 points of damage. On an MD 10, Gaindogrig will shatter a portion of the cliffside, sending boulders hurling down to the party dealing 115 points of mitigatable damage against all them. If hit by the boulders, each player must roll an LD as a Free Action. If the LD is 5 or below, the player in question is stunned for one post.

Conquerer | Gaindogrig can make four attacks in one round; once with his maw, once with his tail, and twice with his claws. If against a party of four, each player will be targeted by an individual attack. If against a party of three, each Player will be targeted by an individual attack, followed by an AoE attack that targets all three. Against a party of two, each will be targeted twice. Against a solo party, the Player will be targeted by all four attacks. He also has an additional +1 ACC against the player or players (if matching) with the most hate.

Aerial Combat | At any time Gaindogrig is overly threatened (losing more than 100 points of his health in one round) he can take to the skies to increase his mobility. While airborne he has an additional +1 EVA, with a penalty of -1 ACC (-2 ACC at 50% health). Gaindogrig will land, ending this effect, if he takes 50 damage or less over two rounds.

Breath Attack | Every fifth turn, Gaindogrig has the ability to release an incredibly intense and potent sonic blast of incredible volume against the whole party. This attack deals 150 damage as an AoE attack at +2 ACC (the EVA stat does not reduce the BD for this particular attack). Each player must roll an LD to determine if they are paralyzed for the next turn or not: LD 10 and lower indicates paralyzed. This attack however is very strenuous on Gaindogrig, and thus he is only capable of using it twice in a single fight.

her gaze shifted from the dragon to her partner. 'take it back' to deliver it to the demon before them. got it.

gaindogrig stood, large and imposing, and night's dive towards it only spoke of the height difference between the players and goliath. they were barely up to its forearm. and yet, he could barely raise a claw to swipe at her location. in two sweeps, her edge cut through scale and skin, the dance of her blade digging into the reptile's sides, and despite the loose stances from her actions, the weapon had decided upon death being the creature's verdict.

how fast the dragon's health bar plummeted, she did not see. but it emptied, the demon croaking out nothing further than a shriek and a "what?!" before its form was taken by cardinal, now data only to be recycled. all that was left to mark its existence were the marks gaindogrig had left upon the earth, and night turned to nari with a tilt of her head and a gesture to where their mark had been with her sword.

Spear and shield relaxing slightly, she grinned at her companion as the gesture was presented. “Well, that was quick. I didn’t expect you to end it that quickly. But I won’t complain! It’s always fun to see you dance the dance of death.”

A quick glance towards Gianna, and the dragonling that she had returned with was enough to sour the happiness she had felt just seconds ago. Her glare cutting across the air, she marched across to Gianna as she tossed a hand to the side in an aggressive manner. “Care to explain where it is that you disappeared off to? And why you have a dragonling in tow now?

She couldn’t help the slight anger that slipped into her voice as she questioned the NPC – and she doubted she was able to keep the slight twitches off her face. Taking a deep breath, she tried to force it all aside, forcing control on herself once more before she spoke again.

“Next time, just warn us before you disappear and leave us thinking that you’re betraying us. I hope this is the dragonling that we were meant to go find…come on, Big Gain is dead and we can get this mission all done with…”

A quick glance towards NIGHT, a soft smile as she felt herself calming completely at the sight of her companion, before she began back along the pathway they had taken to arrive at the camp.

"yeah," night breathed, a glance to her sword from her companion, still in shock. "well, neither did i." because she'd heard rumors about the enhancements themselves, yes, but to wield something so powerful to begin with felt... impossible.

something in her stomach churned at the thought of it, and she set that aside as nari addressed the returning party members. gianna, sheepish, was looking about to the dragonling still flying through the air, zipping around with chuckles and plumes of fire through its breath while untethered to their tamer associate. a hand ran through her locks as she spoke. "uh... taking advantage of a possible distraction by sneaking into camp and freeing ormi's child. she'd told me he was always a little scamp -- figured i could cause some chaos..."

the still-stranger folded her arms, looking up towards orsyn. "look, the important thing is that we got rid of gaindogrig -- if not for good, then for the time being. and orsyn's safe, too. though i've been trying to hold his attention and i can't seem to get him to listen to me after what'd happened..."

Nari’s eyes rested upon the somewhat uncomfortable appearing NIGHT – watching as the girl seemed to stare at her blade with…contempt? Concern? Nari couldn’t quite tell, but there was something in her gaze towards it that bespoke of emotions in a negative manner. She knew there was something that needed to be brought up, to be spoken about – but now wasn’t the time.

Her gaze shifted to Gianna, listening as the woman-NPC told them about her plan to infiltrate and release the dragonling. Nari had to admit, it was a sound plan – if you forgot about the fact that the baby dragon they had been sent to rescue was now happily dancing in the skies above a goblin camp.

Uncertain whether it would even work or not, she pulled up her menu and brought forth a slab of boar meat that she had collected…well, some time ago. Laying it out on the ground, she stepped back a few steps before whistling into the air – watching in amazement as the dragonling shifted its course towards them.

“Guess who’s officially a dragon tamer.” She grinned at NIGHT as the dragonling landed before them, devouring the single piece of meat before turning to look for more. Cautiously, Nari approached, holding a hand out and running it along the scales of the almost timid creature. “What say we get you home to mommy, yeah?”

A single grin towards NIGHT before she began the stride back towards the cavern where they had first met the large, amethyst dragon. She ignored Gianna as the woman fell in beside her, clearly trying to get some sort of recognition for the return of the dragonling – which was more than fine by Nari. Hand reaching out for NIGHT’s, she desperately searched for her partner’s presence, desiring the comfort that came with that touch.

night's gaze shifted upon noticing the raw meat that had formed on the ground. and almost instantly, orsyn dove towards it, claws clutching at the corners of the food, maw and teeth sunk into that offering at once. the player huffed, smiling, pacing closer to observe the dragonling. when they were ready, the two rose from the field, drake in nari's arms, and as a party they started their way back to the mountains.

it was to ormi's delight that her broodling was safe. orsyn near jumped out of the player's hold with a cry of laughter as the familiar figure of his mother came into periphery, and the dragon tilted her head, cooing in response. as the party shuffled around, night found her fingertips settled upon nari's, only for them to be pulled into a clutch, as before. orsyn fluttered around ormi incessantly, as gianna leaned by the side, against the cavern wall.

"thank you for bringing him back to me," came the gentle wash of ormi's echoing voice. "though i am afraid i cannot offer you travelers much... might i ask to see that topaz gem of yours?" the dragon leaned closer to nari, snout but a few feet away from the woman, eyes stoic, full and unflinching.

A single blink, and then she pulled forth the topaz gemstone, holding it aloft so that the dragon could see it within her hand. She shot a curious glance towards NIGHT, but remained silent as the dragon inspected the piece.

“Curious…it feels so similar…” The dragon’s snout receded, and suddenly Nari noticed the amethyst gemstone within the dragon’s claws – held so that Nari could reach out and take it. With hesitant hands, she accepted the piece, listening as the dragon recited its piece. “This has been within my possession for quite some time, a piece that I inherited…well, long ago. Something about it resonates with the one that you have – perhaps a sibling, of one another.”

Nari glanced at the two pieces, before holding both up for inspection. She let out a little shriek, leaping on the spot as the sparks flew between the two gemstones. In her hands, they began to glow brightly, just enough to stand out against the slowly fading light.

“Curious indeed…guard these well, human. Perhaps there’s more to them than we know yet.” Without another word the dragon retreated, leaving NIGHT, Nari and Gianna on the cave’s edge, the wind whistling behind them softly.

“I…want to thank you. For your help. For saving many lives today, and for everything you’ve done…” Stepping forward, she held forth a single ring, offering it to Nari before stepping back. “I know I have no right to do so, but…could you keep Ormi’s presence…well, secret? It would not be beneficial to any if her existence was made known to any others within this world…”

Nari gave a quick, terse nod. Gianna seemed about to say more, before she simply returned the nod – and then left the two girls alone. Turning to NIGHT, Nari waved away the completion notice, smiling at her. “You know, I don’t say it enough – but thank you for coming with me. I really appreciate it…”

Clasping the others hand, Nari began the walk back towards home, pulling NIGHT along behind her. She continued chattering in the other girls ear as they walked, talking about whatever came to mind, but mostly filling the silence that would otherwise sit over them.
