[PP-F3] Return to the lake -Complete-

Recommended Posts

Seldentar targets the next nearest Sea Lion. He doesn't want to offend Shiro by killing off the Sea Lion that she is fighting, and opts to keep moving forward for now. Charging forward, he jumps at the next enemy. His blade slashes through the sea lion, removing half of its hit points.

Hoping to carry on the momentum she had gained from her previous attack, she continued her assault, hoping to deal a bit of damage with a thrust. Suddenly, the Sea Lion lurched up its great head, parrying Shiro's blade and causing her to stumble and fall.

Seldentar whips his head around, calling out even as he dodges a blow from the Sea Lion in front of him.

"Shadow! Get it until shes back on her feet!"

Seldentars focus is too split for him to fight effectively, even as Shadow jumps up at the Sea Lion to try to stop it from attacking Shiro. Shadow misses his own attack, and gets hit by the Sea Lion instead.

"Shadow, no!"

She felt guilty about Shadow getting hurt trying to defend her, and getting to her feet, launched another lunging thrust at the troublesome enemy, but she stumbled, still a bit dizzy from her fall. Regaining her footing, she took a step back to regain her foundation.

Seldentar moves quickly at the foe in front of him. He needed to finish it off fast, in case the fight turned bad. He felt a pang as shadow took a hit, but he knew that he was strong, and was high level with him. Focusing on the monster in front of him, he lunges forward. His focus is too split, and he finds himself missing his enemy, taking a hit himself.

She took a deep breath. Maybe she'd have a bit better luck with the system's assistance. Her sword skill had cooled down, so now was her chance to test that theory. She tucked back into her stance as she had done several times before by now, and launched forward as《Linear》activated. Graciously, he skill landed and he did a little hop backwards to re-clear the distance. At least her footwork was still up to par.

Seldentar struggles to get up, raising his blade again. He chooses to use a sword skill, the . Rushing forward, he brings his blade downward at a diagonal angle. His blade rips into the sea lion going down, and with the system guiding him, his blade cuts back up, forming a V pattern in the Sea Lion, as it is destroyed.

Almost had him. The sea lion was almost dead. Even though Shiro wasn't exactly performing particularly well, she found the entire experience exhilarating. Something very different happens in a person's head when fighting for sport versus fighting because you have no other choice. The feeling, while enjoyable to her, reinforced the fact in her mind that should have to get strong.

Using the distance she had bought herself, she moved in with another lunge. She should have been faster, however, as the sea lion had begun to charge her, tackling her to the ground.

Cursing under her breath, Shiro climbed quickly to her feet, and angrily swiped her foil at the Sea Lion with a complete and utter disregard for form, grace, or restraint. A thick orange line appeared in the monster's side and glowed brightly at the foil sliced through its flesh.

"Let's finish this."

Stepping back and preparing to finish the fight with a final lunge, the foil in Shiro's hand became the instrument of the Sea Lion's death. She closed her eyes for a moment, composing herself after her last attack's ordeal, and readied herself for her final assault.

The creature lunged at Shiro at the same time she lunged at it. It seemed this was turning into a good old fashioned iaido duel. The short tusk of the Sea Lion managed to clip into Shiro's arm a bit, causing a glowing orange wound to appear momentarily and shocking the woman into just missing her target. She was starting to wonder if the safety margin of fighting monsters on this floor was within reason for someone of her level. But she wasn't worried with Shadow and Seld by her side.

She spun her injured arm away from the Sea Lion, swiping her foil at it once again mid-spin. The animal didn't seem to be able to predict or evade such a sudden maneuver, and the tip of her blade sliced deeply through it causing it to shatter into dozens of polygons before vanishing.

"Relax, it's just a scratch," she said, shaking her head.

Seldentar walks over shaking his head.

"Sorry, guess I can overreact sometimes. Although, I think this may help."

He materializes an item from his inventory, a necklace appearing in his hand. The see through blue stone was on a silver chain.

"It dropped off the sea lion I was fighting."

Shiro stood up straight and, whipping her sword at the ground, she sheathed it. She couldn't decide if she was annoyed or touched that Seldentar had shown such concern for her well-being. For now she resigned to to latter, and looked on curiously as he retrieved an item from his inventory.

When he held out his hand holding that glimmering silver chain set with a brilliant blue stone, all the stunned rapier-user could do was stand still in shock. Of course, this was an MMORPG. Of course he was passing some loot he didn't need to her. Of course this probably meant little more than "Here, I don't need this crap." But for some reason she couldn't understand, this man standing before her was handing her a beautiful piece of jewelry next to a gorgeous lake on the third floor of Aincrad, and her heart raced. They stood here, on the floating castle of iron, and he offered her a gift that was just as beautiful as the world that spawned it.

"F-for me?"

She never took her eyes off the thing, still stunned.

Seldentar watched her reaction to the necklace, and he felt his face heating up. He turns his head slightly, trying to hide that it was turning red.

"Yeah, I mean I thought you'd like it, and it could help you in combat...and yeah..."

He takes a deep breath, trying to relax. He moves his hand forward, offering it out to her.

"We should keep moving, we need more metal still..."

Seldentar waits nervously to see if she will take it. He is increasingly aware how this situation looked, and hoped she didn't freak out at him.

She didn't know how well the system of Sword Art Online would portray her reaction, but so far she'd noticed only exaggerated emotions. Right now, she just knew she was blushing wildly. Embarrassed, she snatched the necklace from his hand and turned around quickly, hoping he wouldn't see.

"Th-thank you..."

She opened her menu and equipped the necklace. Touching it gently, she realized that it was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for her.

"And yes, you're right. We should keep going," she said softly.
