[SP-F1] Earning a Living (Quest) [Complete]

Having made his way out of the main square of the town, Zak was more than ready to get prepared for all that was to come. He knew that he would most definitely need some armor, weapons, food, but there was something else... a shop. It wasn't something that was too vastly important in the beta, considering most players were attempting to level up as fast as possible in order to make it as high up as possible. However, now that there was clear understanding that the game would require far more caution, a shop would be highly beneficial in bringing in col and self-made items. There was a quest available to players to obtain access to creating a shop, which was where Zak was heading to first.

Having finally arrived at the quest NPC's Smith Shop, Zak walked in and was instantly surprised to see a lack of items hung on the wall and on display in cases. It seems quite a lot of people were looking for some higher quality gear than the starter gear that they received off the start, but that wasn't something that settled easy with Zak. Obviously people had been able to obtain the col required to purchase the items, which meant there were people already progressing through the game. He assumed that the ones responsible were beta testers like himself that knew how to play, meaning he was running behind. Approaching the counter, he noticed the Blacksmith breaking a sweat as he was rushing through materials to create enough supply to meet today's demand, "Excuse me, got a moment?"

"Yessir, for the time being anyways. What can I get for you today?" The man continued banging at the materials until a rather average looking sword had been forged, then approached Zak at the counter. "I'm looking to start up my own shop, what do I need to do?" The older man laughed, "Aye, there's a man that knows a good Profession. Don't go stealing all me customers though, wouldn't like that too very much." The Smith pulled out a piece of paper and slid it across the hardwood, "Here be a list of supplies I need and you shall need some mats for yourself, young one." Zak tilted his head in appreciation as he placed it in his inventory, "Thanks, I'll bring you back the supplies later today. Ciao." He walked out the door and started heading towards the open plains just outside the city.

Pulling up list on his hub, he browsed what he would have to gather; [boar Tusk] x2, [Wolf Fang] x2, and [Rabbit's Foot]. Of course, that didn't include the materials he would need for himself, but he would be able to do that after obtaining the items that the Blacksmith needed. It took some time before he got to the open plains as he wasn't in too much of a rush, seeing as he wanted to see if anything had been drastically changed along the way. Once he arrived, it was quite easy to spot out the targets that he were hunting off in the distance. There were two loner boars a bit away from each other, plus two wolves to the north east that were chasing rabbits. Seemed like an easy job so he began running towards the closest boar to him, unsheathing his Dark Fury and preparing for his first battle in the official launch.

Using common sense, he knew that a boar would be really easy under the circumstances that he was slick. Making sure that the other boar and wolves further off were still distracted, he readied himself to end this encounter quickly and efficiently. Once he crept within striking distance, he lunged forward and swung for a deep vertical slashing attack on the boar's back.

Zak had been successful in opening with the initial attack and had already brought the beast down to half its health, leaving him with virtually no chance of losing. Though now that the element of surprise had been used, the boar was livid and began rushing headfirst towards Zak. Smirking at the simple nature of the AI, Zak extended his sword before him and ran towards the creature, intending to use his longer reach to his advantage.

Looking towards the point of his sword, he watched as the boar shattered into thousands of multi-colored shards. He was expecting to get a tusk or a single mat, but was pleasantly surprised when he found his reward was double what he expected, "Oh, hell yeah!" With this hype in mind, he was more than excited to keep this quest rolling out on a high note. With the mats in his inventory, he began running across the field towards the next boar, ready to claim some more materials or a tusk. Granted, by now he had gotten totally seduced by the game that he had loved back in the beta and with his personality, there was nothing holding him back now.

The boar was within range, but had already noticed the presence of the player and had begun charging towards his opponent. This engagement might prove a little more riskier, but with the confidence Zak had obtained from the previous fight, he didn't mind. He ran fowards and leapt over the boar, bringing his sword behind and below him, dragging it across the boar's back. He knew there was less flashy and safer ways to do it, but the smirk on his face prevented him from concentrating on those ways.

The slash connected and the boar roared out amidst the anger and pain, probably more furious than the deceased boar with some intent of vengeance. Zak, however, was on the verge of laughter as he was having an absolute blast. This was the perfect game and the small tweaks to improve the game and its AI was notably better than ever. Landing on his feet, he spun himself around and prepared for the second charging of the boar, much like its former comrade. Sword facing front, using that same advantage of a longer reach, he ran head first towards the boar, "It's over for you."

Watching the same satisfying scene of the boar shattering into shards on the tip of his sword, Zak was pretty disappointed to find that he wouldn't be receiving any loot from this one, "Damn, I guess that balances out my good fortune off the bat." This meant he would still have to find at least two more boars in hopes that they'd drop some tusks, but he still had to obtain the wolf fangs after all. Seeing as there were no boars in the near vicinity, Zak began trudging over towards where he last saw the wolves and rabbits. Zak was a bit curious to see how much more difficult a two on one fight would be with the AI so he couldn't wait to get there, drinking from one of the water bottles that he had pulled from his inventory.

Approaching one of the two wolves, Zak unsheathed his sword as quietly as he could. The other one had captured a rabbit and was proceeding to kill it, while the other one circled around. The animal might have been waiting to scavenge the remains or perhaps it was willing to fight for the food, but it mattered not. Its next fight would be with Zak, whom had already approached behind and taken one quick stab to the side before retreating. He knew that both would likely be hostile and wanted to be best prepared if that was the case.

As Zak backed away, he was absolutely surprised to see that the health bar of the wolf instantly depleted and the monster shattered into shards, giving him another two materials as loot. Maybe he still had that incredible fortune from earlier, which had him perked up like a little child finding candy. The remaining wolf howled at the player and began charging, somewhat quicker than the boars from before. However, Zak prepared to attack in the same manner as earlier, returning with a charging attack and stabbing the beast. Once the wolf had closed the gap enough, Zak began sprinting towards it with sword on point.

Unfortunately for Zak, he didn't expect the wolf to leap up at the last second and got struck down to the ground as the wolf leaped off his face. The wolf landed and prepared for a second pounce, but now that Zak knew the movement, he was ready for the wolf to strike again, "Bring it." As if on cue, the wolf bolted towards Zak and leapt up, though Zak had knew it was going to happen again. He knelt down to the ground to evade the wolf and stuck his sword up, hoping to stab the sucker in its stomach or at least hoping that he'd fall right into it.

He had been successful in stabbing it and he launched the wolf off of his sword away from him, causing it to flinch and fall as it landed on the ground. Taking this opportune moment to inflict the fatal blow, Zak stood and rushed towards the wolf. This time, he would take a leaping attack of his own and bring the sword downwards upon the wolf, making sure that he'd be able to finish this off in one last hit, "Ciao."

Much to his dismay, it wasn't the end for the injured animal as it was able to scurry away just in time. Zak's sword simply missed and landed in the ground where the wolf had fallen earlier, but maybe the wolf was playing foul. Maybe it had fooled Zak into thinking it was more wounded than it really was, yet what mattered now was that Zak's was low and the sword was lodged in the ground. Taking advantage of the situation, the wolf rushed forwards as the kid struggled to pull the sword up. At the last second, he dislodged it from the ground and held it up, hoping that he'd be able to hit the wolf with blind luck. He did have pretty good luck so far, after all.

A wince of pain and some swearing took place as the sword completely missed and the wolf bit Zak's shoulder before leaping away, though Zak was getting a little pissed now. He had taken out the other monsters so easily without getting hit, yet this one had hit him twice the amount of times that Zak had hit it. He couldn't rely on luck any more, but he decided to take the lead on this attack. He began running towards the wolf as it backed away, sword at the ready as he slashed upwards for a clean swipe.

The wolf shattered and Zak let himself fall to the ground in relief, using his arms to sprawl himself out on his back, "Man, I didn't expect the lowest level monsters to be able to do that. I wonder if they raised the difficulty from what it was during the beta." He looked up towards the sky, watching the clouds float by as if they had no knowledge of what was really going on in this virtual realm. In fact, besides the players and the creator, did anything else know about the twisted fate of this world? Did the NPCs know or even care? "Jeez, this is going to be tough... fun, but tough..." He sat up and began to finish his bottle of water when a rabbit hopped up beside him, begging for some of the water. He placed some of it in the lid and put it down, but began to unsheath its blade in the meantime, "At least you'll be an easy one." He lifted the sword up and slashed downwards, hoping to kill it in a single strike.

Of course, it only made sense that the rabbit was more aware of what was going on as it dodged away and began skimpering away. Zak let out a sigh of exasperation, he would have to chase the bunny across the field if he was going to take it down. At least he didn't have to worry about it attacking him, or so he assumed, so he began running towards his target. Once he got within arm's reach, he tried to go with another overhead slam, hoping the sudden attack was a little more tricky to dodge.

The attack was successful and propelled the small creature forwards a bit as it whimpered in pain, but it wasn't going to give up hope yet as it got back up and scurries away. Unfortunately for it, Zak was right behind and ready to finish this off. He still had to find another two boars and a wolf to obtain the remaining materials, though that was simply if he was lucky. There was no way he wanted to be out here when it was dark so he had to keep things paced so he decided to go with one last downwards strike to finish off the rabbit.

Quite expectedly, the bunny was more alert this time and side-stepped to the right as it kept on hopping away. The sword simply cut through the grass in its way, but Zak was able to keep his motion propelling him forwards. Fortunately, it didn't seem as if this darn rabbit had any other plans than being a nuisance and waste of time. He would catch back up and decided he would try to attack it with a horizontal attack, in hopes that if he did miss, the broader range of the attack could at least strike it when it dodged.
