[SP-F1] Earning a Living (Quest) [Complete]

Recommended Posts

He was beginning to get livid, at a rabbit of all things, something that he would never expect in a game. He groaned in his frustration and yelled at the poor little thing he was trying to kill as if it wanted to die, "Damn it all, STAY STILL!" He could imagine the bunny's reaction was nothing more than a twitch of the nose as if it was making fun of the klutz that couldn't take something so easy down quickly. Zak ran forwards and tried to go with another sweeping attack, caring not if he even got any loot from the troublesome target. He just wanted it dead. So very dead.

Zak sighed a victorious breath as the rabbit shattered into those shards that he had been longing for, rewarding him with the rabbit foot that he needed. At least now, he wouldn't have to go on anymore wild goose... or rabbit, chases. Looking around, it turned out that he had chased it for quite a ways and more animals were in sight to the north. A pair of boars, a pair of wolves, and a lone wolf were nearby. That was just what he needed so without taking too long, he began trudging over to the lone wolf. It had noticed him long before he got there though and it began rushing headlong towards the player, whom had raised his sword and went in for the strike.

Of course, the wolf didn't jump like Zak expected. It seems the AI had been vastly improved since the beta, allowing the monsters to adapt to the player's skill (or at least that's what Zak wanted to blame his lack of success on). The wolf stayed low and took a bite into his calf as the sword missed by a mile, but Zak wasn't going to let the wolf leap away this time without fitting in one more attack. He swiftly lowered the sword he had in the air to swipe at the wolf's side as it removed its fangs from Zak's leg, "Gotcha."

The wolf was a bit faster than Zak had expected and it was able to dodge out of the way before the sword could come all the way down, but he still wasn't going to give the beast any sign of an open window as he used the momentum of his arm to turn himself in the direction of the wolf and propelled himself forwards. This time, he lowered his sword and when he was in arm's reach, he decided that would be the time to launch the sword forwards. It would be a quick strike, one that the wolf shouldn't be able to dodge and could potentially lead to a crit, but Zak wasn't expecting to be that lucky.

The wolf didn't try to return the attack, but simply retreated from the attack again, preparing for an attack that wasn't a weak counter. The missed jab nearly made Zak stumble, but he caught himself before he lost his footing. Unfortunately, this left the wolf with a prime time opportunity to attack as it rushed forwards. Zak turned to find the wolf had gotten ready to pounce and swung his sword horizontally as it went airborn, hoping that that he'd get the hit before the wolf tackled him.

The sword cut cleanly through the furry animal causing it to shatter into shards that showered upon Zak, whom had been kneeling and was completely surprised that the delayed attack had worked. A noticed popped up and he grinned at the though of having obtained the second wolf fang, which was a relief. He didn't have to worry about any more wolves or rabbits, the two of the more troublesome monsters that he had encountered so far in the official launch. However, he wasn't done yet. He began running towards the pair of boars, the last two creatures that he would have to kill if he was lucky enough to get the drops that he was looking for. He would go for an easy opening, attack the closest creature and striking before retreating to see if both had become hostile.

The boar that Zak had struck lost half of its health before it roared to alert its comrade, then both began charging towards the aggressor. It appeared that this fight would be as easy as the boar fights as earlier, just a little less forgiving as there were two of them at once. Zak began circling to the right so that the injured one would be first to approach him, giving him the opportune strike he was hoping for. Swiping his sword down and to the left, he was hoping that it would finish off the first one, leaving only the other and hopefully some loot.

Zak was successful in the former, but not the latter. The boar shattered into shards, but no loot was rewarded to Zak as it did. The only thing he was rewarded with was an opportunity to fight this last boar one on one, which simply had to drop what Zak was looking for. He spun on his heal and began rushing towards the charging bull, sword ready to jab forwards at the last second, seeing as how successful it had been earlier.

It turned out that Zak had missed the last second and was late on the delivery of the jab, which allowed the boar to ram into Zak's legs. The blunt attack knocked him down and the boar kept charging for a bit before turning around, it grunted and swiped its feet as if ready for another head on head attack. Though it seemed a little moody as it continued to rush forwards before Zak had the chance to get back up, but he still had sword in hand. He jumped up and remained still, but still intended to use a similar jab as before, though he was planning to strike downwards a little earlier this time than the last.

It had hit spot on, right into the boars back and caused the brute to squeal in pain. It wriggled away, but this allowed Zak the perfect opportunity to finish it off once and for all. He bolted towards the large pig and went for an easy jab to the boar's side, it would only take one last hit to kill the beast. He could hear some more grunting off in the distance as if a nearby boar or two had heard their comrade's plea for help, but little did they know, Zak hoped for nothing less than that.

He felled the boar with the jab, bringing back those beautiful crystal shards that bursted from the source. Of course, he didn't receive any loot from his hard work and, to say the least, Zak was none too pleased, "Oh, COME ON! Just give it to me already you half-witted RNG system..." He looked towards the direction he heard the grunting earlier and it seemed that two more boars were on their way towards Zak, but would take a bit of time for them to make it to him. He pulled out a loaf of bread and another bottle of water, then sat down. He deserved a break. Just like he deserved that loot.

After a few moments, the first boar had close enough distance to give Zak some concern, but the second was far enough away to give Zak the opportunity to fight the first one on its own. It was a relief, to be certain, as Zak's health was being whittled down slowly, but surely. Granted, he still had more than half his health, but one more hit and he'd be in the yellow. Finishing off the bread and water, he stood and unsheathed his sword. He let the pig close the gap between the two, then proceeded to attack with the jab, which had given him the most success so far.

It had worked, just as the player had expected. The boar had tried to stop itself, but ended up tumbling into the attack, allowing Zak to stab it in the rear. He couldn't help contain his laughter after the boar released the loudest and longest series of squeals so far, but it wouldn't continue for too much longer. He ran after the boar that was running towards the safety of his comrade when Zak caught up to him, giving him the chance to finish this off with a clean attack to its back, which was exactly what he attempted to do.

Oh, boy. You know how when somebody sees a ghost and all the colour disappears from their face, like it simply drains out? Well, that's nearly what Zak looked like at this point. The flesh colour from his face was slowly replaced with a red hue and one could imagine the steam rising up from the top of his head, he wasn't happy. Once again, he had finished off another one of these countless, lowest level boars without receiving anything in return. There was another one that had approached to avenge his fallen comrade, but Zak needed to take his anger out on here, "GET OVER HERE." He leapt towards the boar, going for an over the top attack, taking priority of power over precision.

It didn't take out the boar in a single hit like he was hoping, since it had turned a bit to the left before Zak landed the hit, but it certainly did hurt the boar's health and pride. Unlike the last boar, however, this one didn't appear to have the urge to run away. Instead, it circled around and began running headlong towards Zak's legs. If this boar was any like the recent ones, it was probably just going to sweep him out from under his legs. He waited until the boar was just close enough before jumping up and driving his sword below him, "You better drop that loot this time or I'll destroy your entire species."

It was inevitable. It was simply nothing more than Zak cursing his own luck. He certainly had luck, it's just that his good luck from earlier had turned into bad luck. That was no good as it was driving Zak insane, this early on in the game, "NO, NO, NO!" The shards disappeared, but he didn't care. He simply ran. He didn't care how far he would have to go, he would find some more boars. They all deserved nothing less than a mass extinction, even though he would probably never pull through on that promise. After some time, he spotted one, all by its lonesome. It was innocent, but Zak's sword plead differently as it swung down to strike the pig.

The shards went up as did his attitude, "There's no way in hell this system isn't rigged. I should have gotten them by now!" He didn't receive any loot from this one, but at least he was able to finish it off in a single hit. He kept running, north-east towards the pig he could see off in the distance. He would approach it, much in the same way, seeing as the previous boar didn't have the chance to warn the others. Boy, Zak wanted nothing more than to curse at the animal, but didn't want to risk an easy attack just to vent a bit.

This time, the instantaneous shards wouldn't reveal a futile attempt at harvesting the tusks, he had finally been successful. The oversized pig didn't have the time to yell out to warn the two nearby boars, but Zak was so overcome with relief after obtaining the first boar tusk that they would still become alert, "YES! IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!" The grin plastered on his face was well deserved, but he wasn't absolutely delighted yet. He still had one more to go, though the two boars that heard him were giving themselves up to his disposal. Running towards him, Zak returned with a charge, going for another jab on the closest of the two.

The first one bolted to a safe distance after getting a taste of Zak's sword, losing half its health in the process. However, there was another one and it appeared to be quicker than what Zak expected. As he pulled his sword back from its forward position, the second boar had already nearly closed the gap. Zak quickly spun down on his knee with a wide arcing horizontal attack, hoping that he'd be able to hit the boar before it was too late. It was safe in theory, but that wasn't always enough to rely on, especially here.

Well, it turned out he was too late after all. The time it took for the sword to fully swing around in the direction of the target took longer than Zak thought and the boar was able to tackle Zak to the ground before leaping off of his chest. The first boar that had fled seemed to gather himself now that the second had proved this player wasn't anything special. Zak pushed himself up off the ground and went for a straight forward attack on the second boar while the first one was far enough away to not be a nuisance during the attack.
