[SP-F1] <<Earning a Living>>

It had taken Ravven a long time to decide on his profession, however, after giving it a lot of thought, he had decided on becoming a Tailor. He was quite interested in making lighter gear for himself and decided this would be the best way for him to gain such gear. Ravven walked to several different shops in the Town of Beginnings before finally finding someone who could direct him to his destination.

His destination was a Master Artisan by of the name of Frank. This NPC could apparently get him started on his quest to become a Tailor. The shop Frank resided in didn’t appear to be very special. A one story building, rather modest looking, yet tidy. It had a front porch with a rather large and homey looking rocking chair on it and he was almost tempted to go try it out. Ravven refocused on his main task and walked up to the door and found it open, so he just walked right in.

The door creaked a bit on its hinges as he closed it behind him. He saw the NPC named “Frank†in the corner of the room bent over a table, making something. Ravven walked over to the NPC and started up the automatic dialogue. He accepted all of the prompts the NPC gave him until finally Frank told him what materials would be needed.

Material list: 2x Boar Hide. 2x Turtle Shells.

Ravven left the shop, walking through the bustling town to one of the exits. He passed a number of players attempting to sell their wares and wondered if he would eventually open a shop himself. He could use some extra cash, but he would really dislike the interaction with so many people. However, as he left the town, he dismissed the thought from his mind. He headed off towards the plains where he knew some boars were.

After about 10 minutes of travel, Ravven finally reached the plains where the were. He had increased his ability to use a dagger slightly and wasn't too worried about the threat the boars would pose. However, he was still remaining wary as he knew getting too cocky could be dangerous. Ravven opened his inventory and equipted his . The boars had yet to notice him though and were still passive.

Ravven spun his dagger around experimentally before finally gazing at his first target. The boar was still completely oblivious, still just chewing grass and grunting occasionally. Ravven ran at the boar and slashed it across the side with his dagger.

The slash connected and the boar exploded into blue polygons. "I'm glad I specced into the dagger." Ravven thought knowing that if he hadn't such a blow wouldn't have killed the boar.

Ravven was surprised to get 2 boar hides from just one of the beast. "I suppose that just beginners luck..." He thought. He turned his gaze to the second boar and prepared himself to make another attack. He waited until the boar charged him and then at the last second he jumped to the side and attempted to slash the boars neck.

Unfortunately, the Boar struck Ravvens leg with one of its tusk and sent him sprawling to the ground.

Ravven grunted when he hit the ground and picked himself up slowly. He glared at the boar as it turned to face him once more. "This time I'll be the one charging," Ravven thought as he ran towards the boar. However, mid charge, he threw the dagger at the boar aiming for its stomache.

The dagger flew towards the boar and barely missed, embedding itself in the ground behind the boar.

Ravven heard the level up sound and noticed he had leveled up. "Levels are great and all but what I really need is more accuracy with this weapon." Ravven managed to run over and retrieve his dagger while the boar prepared for its next charge. However, just as he pulled it from the ground, the boar came, running full throttle at him.

He threw the dagger once more, aiming for the head this time. The dagger hit its head, but due to the angle simply bounced off harmlessly. The boar knocked Ravven over once more.

Ravven was now getting extremely annoyed at the boar. This should be a simple task he told himself, the first boar had been no trouble at all, but this one was being a major pain. Retrieving his dagger once more and quickly chasing the boar down, Ravven gritted his teeth and swung the dagger in an overhand swing as if to cleave the boars head off.

Ravven felt with satisfaction as his dagger bit deep into the boar. The boar then exploded into hundreds of blue polygons.

"It figures the one that took a year to kill doesn't drop anything," Ravven thought ruefully. He put his and the back in his inventory. He had the hides he needed, now he just needed the turtle shells. He had heard the turtles could be found in the northeast lake region. He had also heard they weren't a threat in combat, but that they were a pain for low levels such as himself to kill.

It took Ravven a good hour or so to reach the lake region. He passed by a number of dangerous looking creatures on the way there, but fortunately they had all been passive. However, now that he was at the lake region, he didn't know where to go to find the turtles at. After walking around several small lakes without finding anything he was feeling a bit discouraged. However, just as he was about to give up and go back to the town for more information about the turtles, he noticed a small hut off in the distance. He set off at a trot towards it hoping for some clues as to where the turtles were.

Upon getting closer to the hut, he found an old lady NPC outside it who appeared to be cooking fish at a firepit. He approached her and engaged in dialouge with her. After talking to her multiple times she finally mentioned the turtles he was interested in. According to her, they were only a few minutes away and she pointed at a small pond in the distance. Ravven thanked her and headed off to the pond.

Upon reaching the pond, Ravven found dozens of turtles as well as a few frogs swimming in it. The turtles weren't particuarly large or threatening looking, but their shells were unusually shiny. Ravven walked over to one of the turtles sunning itself and picked it up, dropping it in the grass farther away from the water so it couldn't escape. The turtle immediately retreated into its shell when he did this. Ravven opened his inventory and equipted his . He took it in both hands and swung it down towards the top of the turtles shell.

His swing caused a slight crack in the turtles shell but didn't cause the turtle to emerge.

Ravven could tell that killing this turtle would take a while. He enhaled deeply calming himself. The top of the shell appeared to be very strong, so he decided to try prying it open from the side. Ravven pushed the dagger into the crack in the side of the turtles shell.

His efforts were rewarded by the two shells seperating a bit more.

Ravven also considered that the blade of his dagger might not be as effective as the hilt of it. After all, the blade was more likely to slide off while the hilt might cause a significant crack in its shell. Ravven turned the turtle on its back and brought the hilt of his dagger down on the underbelly of the turtles shell.

To Ravvens dismay, the hilt of his dagger simply bounces of its shell with no effect.

"Well maybe that idea wasn't as good as I thought it was..." Ravven said aloud to the turtle. Ravven stretched himself and prepared himself for his next strike. He decided to try striking its underbelly like he had done to the top if its shell. Once more he took his dagger in both hands and brought it down with great force on the turtles shell.

Yet again though, his dagger hit and slid off harmlessly.

Ravven shook his head in partial bewilderment. "Who would have thought the bottom of your shell would be harder than the top. I guess I'll go back to the top then..." Ravven turned the turtle so that it was right side up once more. "I wonder if yelling would help.." Ravven raised his dagger in both hands and this time yelled as he brought it down on the turtles shell.

The dagger struck true but appeared to have no effect.

"Oh come on!" Ravven yelled at the turtle as his attacked failed once more. "Can't you just be helpful and let me finish you off? You'll get to respawn and I'll get to go on my way." Ravven tried to calm himself but was now too agitated to do so. He made a number of slashes across the turtles shell.

To his surprise, the turtle exploded into hundreds of hexagons and dropped a single Turtle Shell which he pocketed.

"Who would have thought the one attack that should logically be the least effective against it would end up finishing it off. Well, that's just another reminder that this is a game and not reality." Ravven walked over to the edge of the pond picking up another turtle and bringing it over to the grass. "Now why don't you be a bit easier to finish off eh?"

Ravven decided to try the slashing attack once more and did another series of quick slashes on the second turtle.

The damage left wasn't major, but Ravven knew every bit helped.
