"Right, crab bake at the beach time." the samurai said quietly, attempting to psych herself up.

With that she let out a battle cry, running through the sand and circling the first crab once more. Her blade gave off a light green light as her sword art charged, the whining noise of the system drawing the attention of her crustacean target. As the armored creature turned towards her she slid underneath it's belly, striking at it's legs and cutting them out from under it. The momentum of her attack carried her towards the next crab, her body seemingly moving on it's own as she jumped into the air and landing on it's back. Her katana piercing the thick armored shell and sending out a crack of thunder across the beach. The monster trembled and seized as electricity coursed through it's body, it's mouth opening and the black viscous liquid of blight poured onto the sand below.

With a tug Kat removed her weapon from the beast and let it's body crash to the ground before shattering into the all too familiar polygonal fractals of a defeated enemy. The woman landed easily onto the sand and gave Freyd a thumbs up before returning her katana to her side.

Even as Katoka finished off the other mobs, artfully returning her katana to its sheathe and stylishly flaring her thumbs up at her companion, the decidedly anime-worthy finish fell a little flat.  Freyd wasn't looking.  Instead, the spoopy moron was staring up towards a suddenly sullen and rapidly darkening sky.  The whole thing had a very Oz kind of feel, of the variety with potential to launch you from Kansas to Aincrad in about 3.2 seconds, probably ending in a very jarring and violent impact.

"Uh... I'm thinking this is that other thing that I may, or may not, have accidentally poked in the eye while I was down in the depths.  Maybe."  The ever-growing morass taking shape over their heads started to swirl, picking up speed and setting the lake spilling over the beach as increased air pressure pushed down upon its surface.

"Oh, that cannot be good," he added, redundantly.  Lighting crackled beneath the waves as a massive arm of inky black water reached up as if to grasp the sky.  Snatching only air, both players were distraught to see the forming funnel siphoning the emerging creature up into the air.  Yanking itself from the lake in the least orthodox manner imaginable, a twenty foot tall oil slick in humanoid form  shambled angrily towards them for having disturbed its slumber.

"You got a stash of wet naps, or something?"  Before Katoka could answer, Freyd and Persi had already launched themselves against the surging foe, driving themselves with sheer brute force against the unthinkable horror and staggering it with apparent sheer audacity.

Katoka watched as the mass of liquid rose from the ocean and assumed some sort of form. She adjusted the grip on her weapon and looked around in a panic, attempting to formulate some sort of strategy. "Freyd how in the hell are we supposed to fight a puddle?!"

In a blur of movement a large tendril of inky oily 'water' lashed towards the players, causing them both to jump in different directions to dodge. The samurai dug her feet into the sand as she slid to a stop, attempting to adjust her trajectory for an attack of her own. Instead she managed to kick off and stumble as a charged sword art sent a spray of ocean water up into the air. Kat cursed under her breath and leapt back as another mass of liquid smashed into the ground.

"All this damn sand is making it hard for me to get a good footing." she called across the beach. She hoped that Freyd would have better luck than she did, he did seem to be avoiding the undulating creature at least. The blonde shook her head and patted her cheeks in an attempted to get her head together, now was not the time to loose focus. "Come on dumb ass, don't worry about the how, just swing your damn sword."

"What do you mean," Freyd cried out in response to Katoka's query.  "Water conducts electricity, right?  Stab the fucking thing with lightning." To her credit, she did try. Fortune just wasn't smiling much in that moment.  Maybe it had sand in its eyes?  He knew his companion would rebound, possibly literally, given the opportunity.

"Okay," he huffed, still shuffling about clumsily trying to find his own bearings with a storm literally bearing down upon him.  "So we go with plan B?  Maximum effort!"  Launching himself high into the air in a manner taught to him long ago by the inestimable Oscar, and possibly borrowing a little from Deadpool, Freyd came crashing back down like a meteor.  Parts of his addled brain felt like he might have been channeling some similarly named ancient sword art, but he was too caked in sandy sludge-muck to focus enough.  On a brighter note, a giant orange streak had been blazed along one side of the whirling vortex, though it was soon subsumed back into the rest of its roiling mass. 

"Ugh...," Freyd fumbled, clearly exhausted by the effort.  "Keep it busy for a second, will ya?  Just need a minute."  And, with that, he flopped forward, face first onto the beach.

"Right, busy." she mumbled to herself just before seeing Freyd fall face first into the sand. "Now is not the time for a nap!"

Katoka turned her panicked eye back to the blob before them. If she could just find a crit point on the thing she could paralyze it -- no, the risk was not worth it. She would have to resort to a stunning sword art rather than gamble on landing a crit. With a shift in her stance, the samurai's blade began to glow green as she raced towards her target. "Hey!" she called, not really sure if the thing could even hear her, "Over here you poor excuse for an oil slick!"

As she gained speed the sand she kicked up behind her began to resemble a storm, tendrils of electricity beginning to spark from her body struck out at the grains of sand behind her that were floating in the air. Once she hit the water she didn't stop, her feet moving too quickly to break the water's surface. With a loud yell she struck the boss with her charged attack and sent a ripple through it's body, the gathered lighting in her body traveling down her arm and through her weapon. The creature somehow groaned as it quivered from the shock, slowing itself to a near stop.

Kat attempted to adjust the momentum of her body as she continued to run across the sea, managing to turn herself in a curve around their opponent before just barely making it back to the beach before she fell in the waves.

Blissful silence.  The chaos of battle drowned in the muffled pounding in his head and Freyd tried, unsuccessfully, to inhale the beach.  Using that particular trick always took its toll, but was worth it when it connected.  Fortunately, it had.  Crackling air, dulled by an overwhelming urge to sleep, bandied itself in the clouds overhead.  Except those clouds were a storm, and that storm was trying to kill them.

"Oh... right.  Still fighting," he mumbled groggily, lifting his face off the floor and leaving an imprint whose details he failed to notice.  Katoka was doing her thing, and well as always.  

"Gotta pound the angry sky."  His balance shifted unevenly as he lilted sharply to the left, reaching out to brace himself as he swore that gravity was playing tricks on him.  Stumbling awkwardly forward, momentum helped to refocus him on what was happening.  The next time lightning flashed, Freyd noticed the mottled pattern of shadows cast upon the shore by the mob's own shaded exterior, like its clouded body served as a lampshade to contain some of the light.  Perfect.  When the next flash occurred, he reached out and snared those shadows with his will, coalescing them into coherent shapes: and army of Whispers to overrun this bloody menace.  Launching themselves against the swirling morass, they dimmed its fury while they swarmed, Freyd using it all as cover to smash the thing with another hefty blow.

"It's waning!  Just keep at it!"

Looking out over the pockmarked beach, Katoka felt her breathing begin to stabilize. She was feeling as though the battle was coming to close and her focus as at its peak. It could be over in an instant if she could land the perfect hit. With that the samurai once again rocketed across the sand, making sure to avoid the various holes in the beach so that she wouldn't loose her footing. Even though her hits were not striking as hard as they usually were, she felt that this next attack was going to hit it's mark regardless of it being a crit or not.

The familiar hum of her charged attack followed by a flash of blue light as she swung her sword confirmed her prediction as her attack connected, her blade leaving a glowing wound on the creature before them. Kat did her best to retreat as she watched the HP bar of the vortex drop to a sliver. "Damn." she cursed, turning to Freyd, "You're up spoop master."

Before she could spout another witty remark a tendril of whatever the monster was made of smashed between the two players with lighting speed, sending sand exploding in all directions. Katoka felt an odd sensation in her side as she stood frozen in place. Looking down she observed a liquid spike that had pierced her side, seemingly preventing her from moving. As the sand settled she could see that her friend was also been pinned by a similar attack through the leg. The monster's appendage had apparently sent out several spikes in several directions in an attempt to hit one of them, it seemed as though it had done that an more. With a jerk the spikes all retracted back into the boss and the players watched as it reared back for another attack.

Katoka muttered some quip about poop that made him look under his boots, wondering whether he'd stepped in something.  

"Really?!  Even on digital beaches?  Have people no sh....OWWWW!"

Something pointy had just tried to spear whatever Katoka must have seen, but hit his leg instead.  The pain was expected more than real, recording a notable drop in his health, but suddenly not that much worse than he'd suffered on multiple occasions.  He just hadn't been expecting it, still being in a bit of a daze from yet another fishing venture gone horribly, horribly wrong.  Freyd winced as the giant watery spike dissolved, leaving a gaping hole where his thigh should have been.  A jolt of adrenaline shot through him, bulging his eyes wide open and covering them fully in an inky blackness as consuming as the void within his weapons.  Peering down at the wound again, he found it healing rapidly, as if pure shadow rushed to fill the void - or become it?  Sneering, and now very much awake, Freyd flexed his fists to trigger a change.  Gone were the wispy, pulsing wraps of Samael's Pride, replaced by the crackling violet miasma of The Thing Behind All Lies.

Launching himself skyward in a blitz of motion to rival even his companion's blazing electric strikes, she watched him lunge like an absolute maniac straight into the heart of the roiling storm.  His silhouette blazed as the entire creature flashed bright white, washing out everything else in sight.  By the time the dots cleared from her eyes, Freyd was casually walking back towards her, eyes back to normal and hands stuffed casually into a pair of clandestine pockets.

"I don't know about you," he joked, "but I think I've had my fill of fishing for a while.  What say we call it a day?"
