[F12; SP] Hauling Halibut | <<Just for the Halibut>>

The soft sigh escaped even before Nari had opened her eyes. She could feel the sunlight beating down on her, filtering in through the window and reminding her that daylight had arrived once more. She wanted nothing more than to remain in the bed and laze the day away, but the consistent yapping that occurred every few moments from Mio, alongside the fact that Onora had risen and left some time ago had both driven her to a wakefulness that was unrelenting. She wasn't entirely sure how long she'd laid there, trying to fall asleep again without any success, but she knew that eventually she'd have to give in and follow her partner's decision to leave the comfort of rest behind - an eventually that appeared to have finally arrived.

Pushing herself upwards, Nari forced herself into a sitting position. She opened her eyes slowly, as if trying to savour the remaining seconds of rest that were fleeting away from her, and scowled at the air. Sitting beside her was the kitsune, calm eyes staring at her with a clear request in their centre. Food. Nari shook her head, fighting back the laughter that was bubbling just beyond the surface. The kitsune hadn't moved, or said anything, and yet Nari couldn't help but find a humorous response to the unspoken words that it was trying to radiate towards her.

Throwing her feet over the side of the bed, she left behind the comfort and warmth that it provided, waving a hand in the air even as Mio leapt from the furniture and onto the floor. Calmly, a slight tinge of sleepiness still in her voice, Nari gave another laugh, following the fox-like creature towards the door of the room. 'Fine, fine. You've convinced me. Let's go feed the poor starving familiar before it decides to start eating me."

The house was relatively quiet, Onora having long ago left on some errand that she had mentioned needing to do today, and Nari found herself sitting quietly at the table watching Mio consume the breakfast she had laid out for him, while sipping at the tea in her hand. The quiet seemed to stretch in towards her, and it wasn't long before Nari spoke - if only to break the silence and remind everything that life still hovered over her and the kitchen she was in. "What should we do today, then?"

Her hand flitted outwards, opening the menu and flipping to the list of quests that she had yet to test herself against, looking for anything that caught her eye. She skipped immediately over a few she recognised; wanting to do them, but aware that they would be far too dangerous - or outright impossible - on her own. "There's this, though..."

She paused over the singular item, reading it in entirety before making her decision. Nodding to herself, she closed the menu after noting the details and confirming that she would look into completing it, content with her decision for the day. At her feet, Mio continued to slowly make his way through his morning breakfast, seeming to savour it with each bite, content to take his time without a desire or urgency of rush to his action.

The smell was the first thing to hit Nari as she stepped off the platform and onto the floor proper. Lazaro had never been a favourite place for Nari, but as she stepped into the marshland itself, she was reminded of the unappealing wave of scents that came with such a land. Her nose had wrinkled in response, and Nari found herself covering her face with her hand, glancing down to notice that even Mio had begun to show signs of disgust in response. She waved her other hand, motioning for the two to move outwards and away, hoping that they'd either grow used to the smell that surrounded them, or that they'd be long gone from it shortly, and returned to their home where they could relax a bit.

Leaving the settlement behind did little for the smell, and although Nari felt herself adjusting to it, she found that the lingering scent still bothered her to a degree. Sighing as she left the area in favour of the roadways and pathways that led through the area to the other settlements of note, she decided that the twelfth floor would be added to her list of disliked areas - if only for the overpowering marshlands that made up it's body. "You'd think there'd be an option to turn off the smell, or something..."

Despite her grumbling, she was enjoying being out and away from her home - a place she'd been spending too much time as of late. Even the acrid and unwelcoming air of the marshlands was somehow more lively and, while not quite enjoyable, more acceptable than the staleness that had come to be her residence as of late. As much as she'd come to enjoy Onora's company, Nari couldn't help but notice that she'd begun to desire a return to the living world, or what counted as the living world among the lands of Aincrad. "Maybe it's just...a desire to escape. I mean, things have become repetitive as of late, haven't they Mio? Wake up, do some chores, go to sleep...there's more to life than that, right?"

Even as she said it aloud, she realised the fallacy in the ideology. If she were being honest with herself, it sounded exactly like her life in the real world - the world beyond Sword Art Online. It had been, in essence, the reason why she had left the real world behind in the first place. Shaking her head, she couldn't help but laugh at the simplicity of it all - the way in which everything seemed to circle in upon itself in a manner that Nari wanted to ignore. "I think they call that irony..."

Dayurga held as much appeal as the main settlement of the floor. Nari's nose wrinkled in response, and she felt a hiss of breath leave her teeth as she tried to keep herself from commenting on the otherwise unappealing area. The information about the quest had brought her thus far, and as she looked around she couldn't help but wonder where she needed to go in order to begin the quest in earnest, and then - if luck permitted - make her quick escape from this world. Her eyes passed over the moving bodies that made up the few villagers and assorted individuals who lived here, most refusing to acknowledge her presence and instead going about whatever rudimentary or repetitive tasks they required as part of their lives. A few stood out, standing in a manner that cleared appeared to be waiting - likely initial points for any of the quests offered in this area. What lacked, in the moment, was any sign of a player base aside from Nari's own presence.

"I guess that makes me the odd one today, hey?" She murmured the words to the kitsune at her feet, eyeing up one of the nearby NPCs that had the look of a fisherman about him. A long spear held over his shoulder, and a look of near-desperation on his face, had drawn Nari's eyes towards him. She could see the other fisher nearby, eyeing up both the initial NPC Nari had noticed as well as the few bodies that moved nearby. "As good a place to start as any, isn't it Mio?"

She moved towards the two fishermen, noticing as their appearances seemed to perk up slightly at her approach. Almost as if in que to her very presence, each strode forwards and began to offer their arguments for her engagement, the words coming in nearly on top of one another. Nari sighed as the two spoke, focusing on each of their arguments as best as she could in the moment.

"Fine traveller! Won't you assist a fisherman such as myself on a grand quest. I hunt the Lurker - a renown prize in these lands - and I think I know exactly where to find it...and more importantly, how to coax it out into existence!" The man held a soft smile on his face, welcoming and clearly confident in his information - a contrast to the other individual who seemed, to Nari's experience and insight, to be almost desperate in his request.

"Ah, but you have the look of an adventurer to you! I was an adventurer once myself...but fishing has taken over my life! I still hold the spear that I used in many a case...and it has helped me immensely with my fishing! Were you to join me, I could help you in besting any of the creatures that we would have to face! He would simply sit back and watch, and make you do all the work!"

The two bickered for a few moments, and Nari watched as the small prompt appeared before her - giving her the option of the NPCs to bring into her party in order to assist her in the quest. Her eyes passed over the limited information it gave, her decision made upon those lines, and without truly considered the voices that seemed to rise and fall before her. Softly, she pressed the button just beneath the name, accepting the quest and confirming her placement with <<Renault>>.

"Ah, a fine choice!" The man seemed to smile in victory towards his opponent, before continuing to speak and explain the situation to Nari. She half-listened, content to let the NPC run through it's pre-programmed dialogue, inputting small comments as required to continue towards their eventual goal. When the man had finished speaking, he turned and began leading Nari away from the area, taking her towards a small inlet in the area that provided a cut out of land half-surrounded by waterways.

Confirming that she had the limited gear required to begin searching for the fish - a basic set of fishing gear that Nari had acquired and carried just for this quest - the two settled into place, Nari quietly focusing on their endeavour, even as the NPC continued to explain the history and grandeur behind the lands around them, and the Lurker itself. Nari listened for a time, less than interested but with no choice but to partake in the conversation to some degree, before eventually falling silent and focusing entirely on the fishing at hand. At her feet, Mio had curled into a ball, content to rest and await the necessity of his presence, but no more interested in the stories of the fisherman than Nari herself had been.

Before long Nari felt a pull on the rod, a sign that something had been caught by the bait and dragged into the pull of her reel. Carefully, aware of the weight that was being placed on the instrument and the way in which it could simply snap if overworked, she began to reel the thing inwards, fighting against it even as it fought against her. From the corner of her eye she saw as Renault had begun to back away, putting distance between himself and her position. Nari didn't have time to wonder at the movement, the humanoid figure suddenly appearing from the water in a burst. Moving quickly, she grabbed her spear and shield, already moving into a combative stance even as the creature lunged onto the land itself.

The fish-thing had moved quickly, but Nari had been ready for it, her spear lashing out and catching the thing in the chest even as it had rushed forwards to attempt to overrun her. Even as the spear pierced through the flesh of the thing, Nari had begun to move out of the way and into her defensive stance, not letting the sudden stunned creature gain any momentum on her. She glanced backwards for a split second, confirming that Renault had found a location of safety to disappear into - and making sure that no other creatures had suddenly appeared alongside this one.

Once she was sure of both situations, she turned her attention back to the thing, noticing that it had just begun to come out of the stunned stance it had been stuck in for the few seconds that the effect had lasted. "Fishing and fighting...I guess they kinda go hand in hand. In an odd way, sure. At least this is something that I'm more used to doing...but if I have to fish up a bunch of these things before the big boss appears, well...that's going to be annoying..."

She moved out of the way as a claw lashed out towards her, the nails scrapping along the shield in an annoying manner before passing into open air once more. The fish-thing seemed almost frustrated with the inability to close with her. Dancing around the thing, Nari felt herself even more repulsed by the appearance of the thing - a reminder of just how little she liked this floor. Even as she moved, she felt the claws of two others latch on to her form, spinning to notice for the first time that two other humanoid things, and a large, more dangerous foe had appeared. At least they have the aesthetics and theme down for this area...there's no doubt that this thing came from marsh waters.

The spear had no soon thrust into the creature's form, than Nari had once again driven her spear into it's chest - the flames erupting even as she activated the skill in an attempt to burn away the fish-thing. Whether it was effected or not was left to her imagination, as the cold of her frost bitten weapon fought against the flames that now surrounded it, the two elements tearing the flesh from the thing's form even as Nari pulled back into her stance and watched it wreath in the pain that must have been encapsulating it's form.

She found herself wondering, not for the first time, if these creatures actually felt pain - or if it was perhaps just a physical reaction that they had as a part of the programming designed into them by Cardinal itself. She wasn't entirely sure what to think about the line of thought, and decided that for the time being at least, she would push it aside as just something else that didn't need to be answered, not in this moment. The fish-thing had slapped out the fires around it, and even severely injured, Nari could see that it was preparing to launch itself at her again - a grim determination to bring her down with it, if it was going to die here.

"You're not going to get the satisfaction. Many betters have tried, and I'm still here..." There was no gloating in her voice. She simply stated the fact, even as she drove her spear towards it, knowing that - at least in this moment - she was likely safe from any repercussions that the thing may try and bring down upon her. She was not, however, safe from the remaining forms - their claws slashing against her side even as she realised the fight wasn't over yet.

The creature exploded in a shattering of shards that seemed to reach for the sky before disappearing into the light. Nari found herself calm, despite it all, and it took her a few moments to notice that her companion had returned to the edge of the water, returning to his fishing with an almost questionable calmness. She couldn't help but feel some unease at the situation. She was well aware of the limitations of the NPCs, and the unnatural acting that occurred with some of them. Yet something about the entire scene, the way the man had retreated, to the way he calmly returned to his original task, was upsetting to Nari's mind. It's a reminder that this is just a game, and not reality. In a world that is very quickly becoming reality. The thought had come out of nowhere, and Nari found herself shivering in response to it. She didn't like the idea, but couldn't argue against it, that this world was becoming too normal for her.

With nothing else to do, she decided to pick up her fishing line and return to the task at hand, determined to at least get the quest done before she had an entire mental breakdown at the realisation that she was adjusting in ways she promised herself she never would. You're acting as though this is life now, in everything that you do. You wake up, you shower, you use the bathroom, you eat...most of those things don't need to be done. Most of those things aren't a requirement in the game, and yet you do them anyways...this is becoming reality, in it's own way. She didn't like the fact that she had no argument against the words, nothing to counter the concepts or reassure herself. There wasn't anything to doubt - she was becoming comfortable, and this world was becoming the norm. A fact that she would either have to come to terms with, or - as she suddenly realised - drive herself into madness trying to deny.

No sooner had Nari returned to the fishing pole, than another of the creatures came swimming up to the edge of the inlet that they had situated themselves on. From the corner of her eye, she saw the NPC slink back into the woodlands, well out of the way of danger once more. Sighing to herself, she picked up the spear and shield once more, determined to bring the thing down as quickly as she could, knowing that the quest was only being delayed longer and longer each second that she spent playing with the thing before her.

"I should be fine here, Mio...you relax." She kept her voice low as the kitsune made to rise to it's feet, and she could see the hesitation as she reassured it. Although it rose no further, it refused to lay it's head back down, focusing instead on the armoured warrioress as she danced around the fish-thing's form, using her spear and shield to deflect the few wide strikes that it threw towards her form. The thing was clumsy, clearly more suited to being in the water than on land, but Nari knew better than to give even the clumsy of opponents and opening, lest they find a way to overwhelm her defences through sheer relentless assault.

She felt the claws bounce of her shield once more, and struck out with the spear in retaliation, catching the opening that was left as the creature reeled backwards from her defences. A single claw slashed across the side of her cheek, leaving a small mark even as she pulled her head backwards, the sudden eruption of thorn-like appendages appearing in reaction to the damage she took - impaling the creature in a grotesque way. She could hear the small squeak of pain it released as it felt the thorns embed into it, before retreating back into her shield, disappearing for the moment and giving the two of them a moment of pause.

Nari couldn't help but wonder at her luck, drawing up a quest that was quickly becoming more nuisance than actual benefit to her. She'd taken it, originally, only to strike a box off on an ever growing list that had been of little consequence to her. Now, however, as the thing rushed towards her, Nari was beginning to wonder if checking off boxes was worth it in the long run. Especially those boxes that seemed to provide her with little of value in return, other than some experience.

"I just need to finish you off quickly and find the real threat..." She mumbled to herself as she dodged under yet another wild and poorly aimed strike. The creature was far from dangerous - most of it's attacks went well wide of her form, and she found that the few that did impact were so poorly directed that they either bounced off her armour harmlessly, or scored little in the way of true damage to her. Still, she knew better than to give any doubt about the danger to the fight, and found herself dropping into her typical battle dance, in the hope of overwhelming the target through movement, flow and skill.

Even as the creature lunged towards her, Nari found herself moving to close the gap. Shoving the shield forwards, she swung out with the spear, using it in a slashing motion as much as a batting maneuver. She could feel as the weight of the thing impacted with her, and found herself stepping backwards against the blow, countering her balance in the hopes of righting herself before it could overwhelm her defences in any way that could be meaningful. Driving the spear forwards, she felt her thorns erupt from the shield even as the creature landed a minimal glancing strike against her form, causing it to erupt in a shower of shards before it's entire existence disappeared.

Even as she struck down another of the creatures, she could see a replacement appear from the depths of the water, trudging it's way onto land and making her feel as though her efforts were in vain. Frustration taking over, Nari brought the spear around in a large arc, slashing outwards at the various targets that seemed determined to overwhelm her. She knew it was desperate, wild and overall doubtful to do anything of actual damage to the creatures - but as two of them froze in place, it gave her a bit of space to back away and clear her mind as she considered what needed to be done to survive this encounter.

"Should've taken one of those boosts..." She grumbled to herself even as she realised it was pointless - it was far too late to consider buffs, and she would simply have to win this fight through her own strategic consideration and carefulness. Sighing, she turned her attention back towards the fight, noticing as the two stunned creatures had begun to move already. She knew that she was getting dangerously close to a point of not being able to continue striking outwards, and decided that she needed to change up her focus a bit. "Alright...let's do this."

Putting more distance between herself and the creatures, she considered her avenue of approach, watching as they seemed to prepare themselves to rush forwards, careless of the wounds she'd already carved into them - a machine-like drive in their movements; without thought or consideration.

They came in a single rush, allowing Nari to dodge out of the way and dance around them. There was no thought, no planning, no tactical nature to their movements, and Nari found it almost appalling how quickly they were to simple throw themselves to their eventual deaths. She knew there was assurance in her victory over the creatures - she was running lower and lower on energy, something that would eventually cause her to fall and fail in such a situation - but she also doubted their ability to overcome her defences in any meaningful way. Already she'd absorbed what she felt were the strongest assaults they could muster, and she found herself still standing with most of her health intact.

"This is almost embarrassing for you lot...I barely have to work at this." There was no judgement in her voice, in fact it almost sounded as though there was a tinge of sadness. As much as she was happy there was little threat to her own wellbeing, she couldn't help but feel an amount of guilt and frustration at how easily she was able to best the creatures. In truth, although they could wear her down over time, she was in little danger from their assaults - a fact that became evident even as another claw slashed her arm, causing her health to dip only a single point, knowing it would return to normal within seconds.

Stabbing outwards, she caught one of the creatures in the side, watching as the flames erupted out and around it's body, engulfing it in a measure of fire that seemed not to bother the thing in any way whatsoever. Nari couldn't help but shake her head, her energy for the fight entirely gone as a robotic nature took over.

It didn't seem to matter how much they slashed and slammed into her, and Nari found herself sighing in a mixture of boredom, frustration and slight disgust at how easy it was to overcome the monsters of this floor. She figured, the more aware and realistic part of her mind at least, that it was likely good that these things were easy enough to face and bring down alone. But she would be lying if she didn't admit that a part of her wanted nothing more than to find a small challenge in the fight. To find that difficulty that all gamers looked for when it game to their games - just difficult enough to make it encouraging and welcoming, but not so much as to be dangerous or too overwhelming.

"Likely a dangerous line of thought in this place, in this world...perhaps easier is better." She whispered the words even as she danced around the rushing minions, keeping them low out of habit. She figured no one who was in the area would understand what she was talking about, much less care what she mumbled to herself during a fight. Not that it mattered in the end, truly. She was here for a singular purpose, and as far as she had seen this area was relatively safe - aside from the obvious monsters that were spawned as a part of the quest. For the time being, at least, she had little to worry about other than worry itself. "Let's at least focus on getting this done and over with then, shall we?"

The weapon had struck true as the create leapt forward ahead of it's companions, almost impaling itself upon the spear's tip in it's rush to engage Nari. She had been quick to react, letting the weapon slide across it's side and engaging the explosive art as it came close - watching as the frost spread from blade to skin as it contacted the creature and forced it to retreat momentarily. The respite was brief, and before Nari could truly take a full breath the remainder of the creatures had rushed towards her in a blind fury meant to overpower and overwhelm her. She raised her shield, blocking strike after strike even as she moved sideways and backwards, few of the claws reaching her flesh as she pushed them back and righted herself.

In the corner of her eye, she saw the bars flicker slightly as damage and energy drained further - leaving her wondering just how difficult this fight was about to become. She knew that she was burning energy faster than she could recover, but she was also aware that she had little option in the matter - she would soon have to revert to the most basic of strikes, once her energy had fizzled away entirely, leaving her in a bad position until it had recovered to a degree. She wondered if she'd made a mistake coming alone - not because she was worried about the possibility of death, but because she was going to be here for longer than she desired. Not that it could be helped now, she knew. There's no point crying over past mistakes...just get this done with and move on. I've gotta be at least halfway done by now, right? She wasn't sure how much Cardinal could throw at her, but she knew that if these were as dangerous as the threats in this fight were going to get, she'd be fine...eventually.

No sooner had she noticed the original opponent shattered into shards, than Nari saw another of the creatures erupt from the waters, making it's way to join it's companions in a happy, death-surged rush. She felt herself bite her lip, realising that she was making headway and yet wanting it to go much faster than it had been going thus far. She could almost feel the annoyance - her thorns having done more work than her spear in the fight, and a consistent feeling of tiredness overcoming her as the energy bar dropped ever lower.

The fight had already gone on too long as far as Nari was concerned. She was almost out of energy, and what little damage the creature's had done was beginning to wear on her mentally. She doubted she was in danger of any actual death, but there was a rush of adrenaline that had been flowing through her veins that had begun to subside, the energy of it leaving her feel drained and doubting her success. She knew that if more of the creatures appeared and worked together in swarm, she would be in trouble. For a brief second she considered the teleportation crystal, wondering if it wouldn't be safer to teleport out and return at another time to complete the quest - but something within herself told her that would be fruitless.

You can do this, you just need to pace yourself. Take it slow and steady. Focus on taking down one at a time, and letting them chip themselves away against your armour. You're a tank. This is what you're built for. The voice inside her head spoke reason, and Nari recognised it almost instantly. This was the entire purpose of her design, what she had been built for, so to speak. Unlike her damage-output counter parts, her success didn't come from fast and hard finishes, but rather a slow endurance race, one wherein she tired her opponents down with a deadly defence that let her sit and take the hits, while dishing pain back out towards them. That's right. They're in your domain now. Make them pay for every step. The smile broke out across her face as she felt herself renew slightly realising that she was in no rush to complete this. For the time being, she could sit back and let them strike out towards her, tearing themselves apart upon her defence as much as she was whittling them down with the spear.

No sooner had she made her realisation than she felt a measure of energy course back into her. Once more she returned to her dance of dodging the assaults of the creatures, letting them slash and whip about in the trails of her movements, focusing on avoiding as much as deflecting. She was careful in her return strikes, stabbing outwards only during those openings she was sure would not leave her ready for retaliation, knowing all too well that she had as much time as she required in this conflict. Instead of pressing her attacks, she found herself falling back, leading the gaggle of creatures further and further from the waterfront that they had appeared from, as if trying to remove them from their source of reinforcement. It may have been hopeless, she wasn't entirely sure, but for the time at least she had pulled them further inland - a measure of content in the success of the movement.

As another of the creatures leapt forwards, Nari spun around and out of it's reach, allowing her shield to dip slightly so that the claws passed harmlessly over the metal, rather than deflecting off it and unbalancing her dance. She could hear as much as see the approach of the others, and found herself falling back further rather than confronting or engaging them. Small squeaks of frustration and fury erupted from the creatures as they gave chase, moving to get closer to her and leaving the waterway further and further behind - as if unaware of the way in which Nari was leading them from their home; so bent on violence and death.

The creatures had rushed upwards to swarm at her again, and Nari prepared herself, bringing her shield up and leveling the spear across it's top corner. She waited, watching as they crossed the short distance without care or worry. She felt the reverberation as one of the creatures slammed directly onto the spearhead, apparently unbothered as it wiggled up the spear's length, it's body slowly frosting over as the weapon released it's core effects into the creature.

No sooner had the thing impaled itself than Nari found herself swarmed by the others, their forms closing over her and battering at the armour in a desperate hope of tearing through her. She found herself, for a moment, pushing back against their bodies in an attempt to free herself - the weight pushing her down towards the muck on the ground. Gritting her teeth, she heaved against the mass, shoving them backwards and opening a hole that she was able to slide through and out into the stale air of the marsh. Ducking a wide swing, she moved across to a more open area, turning to face the creatures even as they moved to follow her, their relentlessness drawing them back to her form like moths to a flame.

As the creature burst into shards, Nari's eyes shifted towards the waterfront, looking for the shifting lapse of waves that would signify another of the creatures emerging from the depths. She held her breath, sighing after a few seconds as nothing emerged to greet her vision - and she realised that she was finally heading in a direction where the finality of the fight was becoming clear. She could feel the sudden shift of the battle, an almost relief like feeling having washed over her the moment she realised that no reinforcements were arriving.

"Looks like we're finally coming to the end of it. I'm going to outlast you all, no matter how hard you try." There was no doubt in her voice, no reservation as she turned her attention towards the largest of the creatures - the Lurker seemingly realising that it had become the centre of her focus. As if in response, it made a collection of noises that could be considered vocalisation, and immediately the two remaining humanoid things rushed towards Nari, attempting to use their very bodies to stop her from advancing towards the larger being.

Nari shifted around them, bringing herself through the twin pairs of defence that moved to stop her and striding towards the Lurker. It was quick, but Nari found herself matching it's speed, stepping alongside and then in front of it as it attempted to make it's escape back to the water - and likely safety from her blade. "We're not done here.

The large form of the creature seemed to become frantic as the escape route it had been determined to use was cut off. Screeching in a way that Nari hadn't previously heard from it, it seemed to lurch and sway in the air before her, as if hoping to cause her to retreat in fear. Gritting her teeth against the sound, she instead jabbed forwards, pushing the spear into the centre of the thing's form and twisting it in a way that activated the explosive skill, causing the very scaled exterior to explode slightly. She watched as flames and frost mingled together over it's hide and tore away at what little remained.

A breath of relief escaped her as the lurker exploded into a collection of thousands of shards, seemingly glittering on the wind before disappearing from sight. Just beyond the showering of crystal lights she could see the pair of fish creatures that had come to a halt, a look of confusion on their faces as they realised their leader had passed from existence. Nari took no pleasure in their sudden fear, focusing instead on what needed to be done in order to finish the quest.

Before she could strike out, however, the two seemed to recover a measure of fury and rushed towards her. Claws raked across steel as they attempted to batter her to death, their efforts no more effective than they had been earlier. She could hear as much as feel the thorns erupt outwards, slamming into and through the two forms before receding back into her shield, and Nari turned towards the brutal work of clearing out the area.

With the leader gone and dead Nari found the two remaining creatures more animalistic than they had been earlier, their movements and strikes given over to a pure collection of swats and slams rather than any coordinated assault. She wondered for the first time if perhaps they would be able to overwhelm her, her steps being forced backwards towards the water as the two launched their entire form against her without hesitation or restraint.

Shifting even as she moved, she turned herself in a slow circle, allowing the strikes to impact the more protected parts of her body and avoiding the brunt of their abuse. Although she was able to defend herself, she found her spear pulled back in an almost useless fashion - deflecting strikes rather than imposing them as she looked to simply survive the crazed fervor that had taken over the two fish things. Giving up on any sort of counterassault, Nari chose instead to simply tide out the advance, waiting for the opportunity she knew would eventually come to her - her chance to break free and finish the fight in truth.

The thorns lashed out again as the creatures impacted against the shield, causing her health to drop ever so slightly before it returned to it's original amount. The fish creatures weren't nearly as lucky however, their own health dipping heavily as the reactionary spikes flashed from the shield and penetrated their forms before quickly disappearing from sight again. Nari had long since stopped questioning whether the pair would figure out the detriment to their own health or not, simply accepting that they would likely impale themselves to death upon her defences. All the less for me to do, so that's fine.

She turned her attention inwards, focusing on re-energising herself even as she moved around the marsh area in a dance of defiance, dodging the more impactful strikes of the creatures. She closed off her mind to the world around her as she focused inwards on herself, urging the energy back into her tired muscles and sore arms. She knew that she was close - the fight was almost over, she could feel the end coming even as she spun and swayed away from the pair. It would be easy to end it all if she just had the energy she needed to lash out with a hard assault, to slam both creatures in unison and break through any defence they may have left.
