[PP-PT-F14] The Quest for the Darkest of Salves | Tier 2 Lock

There was one last major drop to get in preparation for the raid. Upon doing some digging, Wulfrin learned of a field boss known as The Lich King on Floor 14. It's drop was an item known as The Darkness Salve, a one use item that could boost his wife, Ciela's, mitigation to new heights. Since she was planning on joining the frontlines in the fast approaching raid on Floor 29's boss, Wulfrin saw no better time than the present to sneak in a brief jaunt. The clock was ticking, so they had to move fast.

"No time for big buffs," Wulfrin said as he hefted the Blade of Zariel over his shoulder. "Both because I'm running low on items, and we are on a time constraint. The Sharkcuterie will have to do. If information serves, the boss should only be barely cresting over your damage mitigation, so your battle healing and your shield's holy blessing should keep you in the green, if not at max. I'm running boss buster, so let me handle the offense." He gave her a quick kiss on the forehead. "Let's go get you that Darkness Salve."

Wulfrin had been laser-focused on helping Ciela become fully raid ready, even more so now that she was finally going to participate. They spent nearly every waking moment prepping, gathering rare boss drops, crafting consumables, and fine-tuning different pieces of gear. Ciela had never felt this level of pressure before. It wasn’t just about surviving anymore. It was about contributing, pulling her weight beside frontliners she so deeply admired. The nerves ate away at her, quietly growing louder the closer they got to raid day.

"I don't think we'll need buffs,” she tried to joke, glancing at Wulfrin. “We’ll do fine. I’m sure my healing can outpace his damage.”

Wulfrin leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. The simple gesture calmed her more than any crafted consumable or battle plan ever could. He knew her better than anyone, could see straight through her brave face, and still believed in her completely. That alone gave her strength.

"Doubtful," Wulfrin nodded in agreeance as he led them directly to a sprawling graveyard. "After the first round if you can stick to AoE attacks, I'll keep the shatters up. This thing cant be burned and will heal by consuming the undead here if they aren't culled. You keep the waves of dudes off me and I'll smack the boss. You know, the usual plan."

With a grin, Wulfrin mad the first step into the graveyard. The mousoleum at the cent burst open revealing a massive shambling undead skeleton clad in decaying heavy armor dragging a massive great sword behind it. Wulfrin wasted no time charging the newly revealed foe. In a split second the distance was closed and Wulfrin's sword was slicing in an upward arc straight through its center of mass.

"Watch the sword!" He called out as he braced for the incoming swing. "The thing is big enough that it's libel to cleave through you and hit me as well!"

Ciela gave Wulfrin a sharp nod, taking in the carefully laid out battle plan he’d all but handed her on a silver platter. Having a clear strategy before diving headfirst into a high-stakes fight? Yeah, that made everything a whole lot less terrifying. It was just like him, always thinking ahead, always making sure she had the tools to survive, and more importantly, win.

As usual, Ciela stayed close behind Wulfrin. He never let her lead into danger first, no matter how much her role was supposed to be that of a tank. It was frustrating sometimes, endearing most of the time, but now? Now she was grateful.

When Wulfrin said they were fighting a Lich, she expected an old skeleton in a bathrobe. Maybe even a crusty dusty old decaying ostentatious wizard. Not a seven-foot-tall behemoth clad in what looked like gilded armor looted straight from a dragon’s hoard.

“Well, here goes nothing,” she muttered. With a flick of her fingers, she activated the Ordsea Crystal Mina had gifted her, cleverly disguised as a necklace hanging just above her collarbone. The warm pulse of its activation grounded her. She inhaled and followed the plan: shatter, wait, then AoE.

She struck hard and fast, whittling down the Lich’s mitigation with practiced slashes.

Then came the retaliation. A massive sword sliced through the air in a blur of deadly steel, aimed squarely at her. Ciela ducked, heart pounding as the blade missed her by inches. She popped back up with a fierce grin.

“Ha! Gonna have to be quicker than that, you crusty dusty ass!” she shouted, swinging again with renewed energy.

And like that chunks of HP were flying of the behemoth undead's bar like it was on a kmart blue light sale. Wulfrin and Solaris moved in tandem as the duo rushed around the hulking skeleton with precision and accuracy. Blade clashed with armor, causing more breaks to form along its surface. Talons clawed at the skeletal frame underneath to little effect, but hey chip damage is still damage. They were making good progress, but they would need a heavier blow if they were going to wrap this up in any meaningful time. This boss was one of their last remaining objectives before Ciela got her first taste of a raid boss's blade. With each stack of shatter he applied, Wulfrin felt more confident in their ability. Honestly it felt good to see how far they had come. A handful of days ago, Wulfrin would not have imagined walking into a fight unbuffed, and yet here he was. Ciela being able to absolutely gobble the damage with no issue definitely helped.

Just as they’d planned, Ciela unleashed a wide arc of an AoE attack, her blade sweeping through the air with precision and purpose. The crusty dusty musty Lich King screeched as the energy tore into its space, disrupting the dark magic it had been trying to summon. No skeletons for you, no no no.

She smirked. Not on her watch. Despite going in without buffs, Ciela held her ground with confidence. Her new armor gleamed with enchantments earned through long hours of prep, and now, finally, she could see that effort paying off. Each time the Lich tried to hack her down with its massive sword, her health bar barely dipped. It hit hard, but not hard enough.

And she hit The Lich King back harder than he could hit her.

The blow the Lich landed triggered her armor. A glowing aura pulsed from her chestplate, and sharp magical thorns sprung outward like needles. They tore into the Lich King’s leathery withered flesh each time it touched her, shredding through ancient robes and rotting sinew.

They were close now. One final piece, and they would be ready.

"You good?" Wulfrin called out as he watched Ciela get flung across the battlefield, her armor bursting to life with retaliation. Wulfrin's eyes drifted up to her health bar just under his. It had barely moved and as his attention turned back to his wife, Wulfrin saw her standing up with no visible sign of damage. "Yeah your fine."

Wulfrin's attention turned back to the behemoth swinging a sword that would make Cloud Strife jealous. As The Lich King reeled back to take another swing at his beloved, Wulfrin closed the distance. The burst of green light from his sword art granted by The Monkey King burst, unleashing its maximum force into the giant undead's center of mass. At last Wulfrin had fully broken down the Lich King's defenses where he could really let loose. The celestial blade hummed with resonance in his hand as he prepared to deliver what would be the final blow.

They had planned the fight for late evening, strategic, efficient, and just early enough to wrap things up before the sun dipped below the jagged skyline of Aincrad. The idea was simple: finish off the Lich King, then head home to Fondante’s Inferno for a quiet meal and the kind of peace only sunset and home-cooked food could bring. Ciela had already mapped out the recipe in her head, something savory and warm, maybe slow-roasted meat seasoned with spice she’d been saving, paired with her favorite golden root mash. Aincrad’s cooking system let her be creative, and the fact that Wulfrin went out of his way to gather rare ingredients just so she could experiment with them? That lit her up inside like nothing else.

Together, they were wearing the Lich King down. Wulfrin’s brutal attacks taking off massive chunks of health while her smaller strikes, layered with the reactive thorns from her armor, chipped steadily away. The synergy felt right. They made a good team. But as the fight neared its end, Ciela’s mind began to drift, just like it always did when things got too quiet.

Am I really ready for this raid? she wondered, her grip tightening on her hilt. She had handled these mid-level floor bosses before, held her ground, survived, even thrived. But a high-level floor boss? Especially at the highest level Aincrad had reached so far? That was different. That was terrifying.

What if I’m not enough?

Wulfrin charged The Lich king with holy sword shining in the moonlight. The Lich King writhed and recoiled as the celestial steel carved through its form. Wulfrin's Sword Art: Nova Ascension was the ultimate attack provided by the Blade of Zariel. The attacks were heavy and bountiful. Each strike seared the undead flesh it cam in contact with. The defenses were gone from the field boss and that only added to the potensy of Wulfrin's final assault. When blade came to rest and the combo was finished, the Lich King burst into shards of data that gently floated to the ground like fresh now before fading away. Two bottles were all that remained of theor foe, one for each participant. This was the item they had come all the way here for. Each crystal bottle held a viscus black liquid that seemed to swirl like a cloud.

"You'll do fine," Wulfrin reassured Ciela, having noticed her nerves starting to come to the surface. "If anything this upcoming raid will show you just how far you've come.  In my opinion we are going in way over prepared."
