Mari 1 Posted Friday at 10:52 AM #1 Share Posted Friday at 10:52 AM Fuck It Was way too goddamn hot on this floor. Mari pulled her scarf further away from her neck, and used it to wipe her forehead. Sweat dripped down her collarbone and disappeared beneath her shirt. Mari wanted to avoid this floor as much as she could. Even with Survival it was a pain. You'd think with having Lancaster around all the time she'd be used to the heat - but the air was thick and humid here. It wasn't pleasant. Mari stood, not too far away from where the floor boss would spawn. After having used the item from Morningstar she realized it'd be useful to have several ones of it on her own. She'd never fought it before. So didn't bother with spyglasses. But maybe she should have? Mari wanted at least 3 of the items, but she wasn't sure if she could be bothered getting them all today. Today was just getting at least the one so she could use it for Redemption. Anything else would be a bonus. Mari had initially invited Oscar to join her; but he was nowhere to be seen. Was he running late? Quote To: oscar From: Mari Subject: Hey, I'm waiting by the area the Phoenix spawns. x -Mari. With the message sent off Mari groaned, shifting to sit on a nearby rock. Come to think of it....she hadn't really seen Oscar since that night she showed up drunk and on his doorstep. Hoo boy. Things would be fine. Mari was confident in that. The two were first and foremost, friends. And he was a very dear one to her. Oscar 0 Posted Saturday at 10:37 AM #2 Share Posted Saturday at 10:37 AM (edited) Oscar had to psych himself up to brave the heat. It was true that Oscar would gladly step up and out for his friends. But it was equally true that he hated the heat. He didn't hate anything quite as viscerally as he hated the desert and volcano and humid jungle floors of this game. There was just something about them that felt just a bit too vivid. And all of this probably could have been avoided if he just wore a hat. It was a logical, pragmatic decision. Except- One had to suffer to look this good. So Oscar stepped off of the teleportation platform and sprinted to the meeting spot. There was a vain hope that the wind rushing by from his breakneck blitz might cool him off. It didn't. And he knew it wouldn't. But the heat had a tendency to make him immediately insane. And what was the definition of insanity other than repeating the same but expecting a different result? Similar to his current awkward situation with Mari. Or, rather, her perceived awkwardness. It had been some time since their romp in every room in his house. Oscar was confident he'd laid it down. And yet, she hadn't reached out before today. And it didn't take a genius to figure out what had happened. Neither did he fault her. He was wrapped up in his own tiny noob boot camp. And he'd never shed a tear over one of his friends finding someone who gives them complete fulfillment. Oscar could handle the physical. Maybe half of the emotional. But he was never both feet in. So he could only assume, as had been the case with many of his friends, that Mari had found someone. Perhaps that guy she had vented about - maybe someone else entirely. And it demanded her attention. And there was nothing wrong with that. Oscar's feelings weren't hurt, though he was a bit bummed that they'd no longer be able to partake of their shared activities. But understanding did not come with a need to address. Because, removed from it all, Oscar was still her friend. The operative term in "fuck buddies" was buddy, after all. And though he was relatively certain about the paradigm shift, he would say nothing. Do nothing about it. Because ultimately, in his mind, it was all irrelevant. They could have some unspoken understanding or talk it out in detail. He didn't care that much. What he did care about was that she understood that with our without their nighttime activities or sinful deviance, he was still her friend. He would still come when she called. Not because of the physical, but because it was simply something a friend would do. He stopped some distance away from her, sweat already beading on his forehead. He let out a heavy sigh and shook his head. "I want you to know that I do not willingly sweat my balls off for just anyone." Mari 1 Posted Saturday at 12:24 PM Author #3 Share Posted Saturday at 12:24 PM "I want you to know that I do not willingly sweat my balls off for just anyone." Mari laughed as she used her scarf to wipe the sweat off her face before pushing herself off the rock. A few things had changed about her - the first was her right hand; there was a nasty scar that circled her wrist, it looked like someone had lopped it clean off and clumsily tried to stitch it back onto her arm. The next was a small ring on her index finger with a glimmering red stone. She also seemed to hold herself with more confidence, the way she stood, the way she held her eyes firm with his. Finally, she was absolutely dripping with sweat. "Oscar!" Mari said in delight as she bounded over to him and gave him a friendly slap on his chest. "It wouldn't be the first time you've done so for me, no?" She asked. "But thank you for coming out...I don't really have many people I can just call on." Mari lifted up her hands, trying to count them on her fingers. "Freyd, you, Baldur...Mac....yeh, not many..." Mari turned and gestured for him to follow, "I'm sorry I didn't reach out earlier. Things got a little....busy." She sighed. "I don't even know where to begin..." So much had happened since their last encounter - granted Lancaster was a big reason as to why. But there were so many other things. If he had seen the monument her name would have appeared twice more. Having killed two players who were attacking Raidou - then there was the issue with her gemini, more Laughing Coffin members springing up and out of the woodwork. it was all rather overwhelming. The hot ground hissed and crunched beneath their footsteps. "Hey." She turned to glance at him. "Just so you know. My name's on the monument a few more times." Mari was never one to be able to grace conversations with simplicity - always going straight to what was on her mind. "A group of people were attacking Raidou. Put me between a rock and a hard place." She said with an exasperated sigh. Mari pulled her shit away from herself, trying to fan out some of the sweat. "I hope this fight goes quick...ugh just to think I gotta do this a few times. Don't worry...I won't drag you to each one. I just....figured the hellstorm potion would be useful against redemption." Odd things to say after one another, in one breath she casually dropped that she murdered two people, and in another - she spoke of redemption. As though those deaths had little effect on her - unlike the past where each one weighted heavily on her heart.
Oscar 0 Posted Saturday at 11:24 PM #4 Share Posted Saturday at 11:24 PM (edited) Oscar cocked an eyebrow. "Redemption, you say? You're finally going through with it?" That was significant. And it deserved proper reverence. It was a big step for her. Oscar had to bite back the gushing about how happy he was to hear it and just how big of a step he thought it was for her. He thought it was funny, though. All of the effort he spent charming her and he was losing his shit internally over her decision to rid herself of her Orange Cursor. He was probably beaming - and he merely shook his head. "Absolutely no need to apologize, Mari. You've got your own stuff going on. I'm here to talk to whenever you want, but I'm not gonna get mad because you're out here living your life." His sword flashed to his hand, quickly dispatching a handful of slugs made of lava that came slowly inching out of a nearby pool. The christening of a new skill sent a significant amount of dosh flying straight into his pockets. It felt nice. "But two things. One," he paused, holding up one finger. "I'm really fuckin' proud of you. And two," a second finger joined the first. "I do have people to call on. And if you're gonna need a lot of these, we could do with some more bodies if you like." Mari 1 Posted yesterday at 01:21 AM Author #5 Share Posted yesterday at 01:21 AM Oscar didn't seem too phased by her admission of ...well..murder Rather, he seemed genuinely thrilled about her shot at redemption. He was grinning ear to ear, barely able to contain the ecstatic joy radiating from him. It clung to him like...like....well like the sweat that currently hung heavily from both their bodies, impossible to ignore and impossible to hide. "Redemption, you say? You're finally going through with it?" "Yeh, Freyd and others- Kinda made me realize it was about time I tried." Mari said as she attempted to wipe her brow, an effort in futility. "I'm...worried I might die - but I need to try. And if I fail then..." Mari gave a non nonchalant shrug. "I'm not letting the colour of a crystal weigh down on me anymore. It doesn't define who I am. Only who I was." Mari's eyes met Oscars in a fierce and unwavering resolve. "If no one else can deal with that, fuck em." The man waved off her apology, clearly her lack of communication hadn't bothered him. Which was nice to know...because frankly Mari was atrocious at it. Its why her messages were so short. When he told her he was proud of her Mari couldn't help but return his big goofy smile with one of her own, in equal measure. A feeling of satisfaction swelling from within her. "That means a lot." She said "And yeh....I was hopin' to eventually get like...five of those things." The riff-raff mobs of the floor interrupted. Oscar made short work of some nearby lava slugs, Mari squinted her eyes as she briefly saw the loot that flashed up - wait? what? "I think the heats gettin' to me, How...how much did you get from that?"
Oscar 0 Posted yesterday at 03:09 AM #6 Share Posted yesterday at 03:09 AM (edited) Oscar nodded along. It was good that Mari had her support system, all working to push her in the right direction. But Oscar, of course, had confidence enough to share. He'd be hard pressed to find a woman with as much grit and determination as she did. It was something that he knew quite intimately. "You won't die," Oscar said. "We'll get you kitted out. And even if we didn't, you have this in the bag." Oscar did two things in quick succession. First, he opened his menu. As he navigated through the windows, he quickly dispatched another group of slugs. "It's my super extra special custom skill," Oscar said. "We squabblin'. Totally meaning to split to the loot too." Fingers danced over the keyboard that propagated in his field of vision, a quick summons containing their location fired off. Quote To Abellio, Lysette: Help me take down a Field Boss for a friend. Just, uh, don't freak out when you get here. After he sent off the message, Oscar let out a slight sigh. "Like I said, I don't sweat my balls off for just anyone but I'm willing to grind this thing out until you got what you need. And for what it's worth, I'm not at all fussed about you doing what you needed to do. I'd have stepped out for Raidou as well." Abellio 0 Posted yesterday at 03:15 AM #7 Share Posted yesterday at 03:15 AM (edited) It was generally worth Abellio's while to come when Oscar called. Even if it hadn't been, Abellio would have showed up anyway. Simple tit for tat. He felt more confident nowadays. Competent. And he was a little honored that Oscar would go out of his way to call him to a Field Boss of all things. It made him feel like all the work he'd been putting in was finally bearing fruit. That being said, couldn't it have happened somewhere that wasn't so hot? Abellio wasn't overly bothered by it, but desert to active volcano was crazy work. He arrived at the designated spot in short order, before Lydia had even shown herself. He was, however, very surprised to see Oscar keeping company with an Orange Player. Was this why he was told not to freak out? "Uh, Oscar," Abellio said. "I don't know if you know this, but she's orange." In more ways that one. All of a sudden, Abellio realized that he'd just called the ginger orange. And somehow he felt like that was more of an insult than pointing out her cursor. He quickly turned his attention to Mari, wincing visibly as he made an attempt to pry his foot from his mouth. "Your cursor, I mean. Not your ginger...ness." There was a heavy silence for a moment as Abellio slowly came to understand that rather than make it better, he'd just made it far worse. "I'll shut up now." Lysette 0 Posted yesterday at 03:17 AM #8 Share Posted yesterday at 03:17 AM (edited) Lydia had actually arrived long before Abellio did. Upon seeing the orange cursor, her instinctive response was to keep to the shadows. Remain in stealth as she tried to get her bearings, acquire the necessary understanding. She owed Oscar much, but helping out a killer seemed to be a bridge too far. It wasn't until she saw how relaxed Oscar was around the woman, witnessed Abellio's rather casual reaction to it, that she made the decision to reveal herself. "Abellio," she said in a scolding tone, appearing out of thin air with a light laugh. "You can't just call random women orange just because they have red hair. It's rude." Though she'd canceled her stealth, Lydia still remained on edge. She couldn't fathom why Oscar would keep such company. Or why Abellio didn't seem at all bothered by it. But she had a good poker face. She could at least swallow her trepidation until she figured out what was going on. Mari 1 Posted yesterday at 04:54 AM Author #9 Share Posted yesterday at 04:54 AM (edited) Oscar reaffirmed that she wouldn't die. "You know..." Mari began as she pulled the scarf completely off her neck. "A few years ago, I'd have said I don't care if I did - but now?" Mari's scarf disappeared into her inventory. "Now, I have people to live for. Things I care about." She said as she fiddled with the ring on her finger. Mari didn't go further, Oscar already knew where her mentality was at a few years ago - and there was no using in beating a dead horse. "Do you know anyone who has attempted it recently?" Mari asked. Freyd seemed to be under the impression it'd be rather difficult - but Oscar showered her with the kind of confidence boost that made her feel she might actually defeat it. They paused as Oscar flipped open his menu, explaining it was a custom skill. Then even offering to split the loot with her. Mari's eyes widened at that. "You- you what? Oscar. You don't have to. I mean..." Mari sighed. "I am kinda flat broke....I upgraded my house recently - and I had about 300 col to my name. So, I'd just have to graciously accept." Mari offered him a grin. "And let me know a good way to repay-" She paused. Right. She hadn't told him. "I'm seeing someone - so a way to repay you that isn't a repeat of our last night together. Maybe I could cook you something, you could judge my skills." Oscar seemed to be waiting for something. Mari was about to question it but a voice behind her caused her to turn around. "Mm?" someone who knew Oscar. Who immediately called out her cursor. "Hey, red." Mari said with a tilt of her head toward him. "It's Mari, by the way." She crossed her arms over her chest, not really one to extend her hand in greetings. She also wasn't going to be rude to someone Oscar invited along. "Your cursor, I mean. Not your ginger...ness." Mari offered the man a grin. "Is okay, I can be juicy like an orange. So the nicknames fine" A snort then a laugh followed as she glanced back at Oscar. Another appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, the woman was on edge. Both of them were. Did Oscar not warn them of who she was? At least Mari had a name to place to the mans face. Abellio. "Hello to you too," Mari said. She wasn't good with meeting new people. it was clear they weren't too sure of her. So Mari took a few steps back toward Oscar and gave him a slightly sweaty pat on his back. "I'm Mari. I guess...you could call me Oscars former fuck buddy?" An attempt at a joke to lighten the mood. "But honestly. He's a good friend. So uh - thanks for helping?" Edited yesterday at 06:31 AM by Mari
Lysette 0 Posted yesterday at 05:59 AM #10 Share Posted yesterday at 05:59 AM (edited) Lydia didn't like it. The only thing that kept her from turning and bolting - while dragging Abellio along kicking and screaming - was the frustrating fact that Oscar was completely at ease. That and the fact that the woman had not, as of yet, tried to stick a dagger between anyone's ribs. Still, she didn't try to make friends. And she would have her questions answered once they were not in mixed company. Every time she thought that she had Oscar's measure, he wound up surprising her. Normally, that was a good thing. Now? She didn't know. But what she did know was that she was brought here for a reason. And that reason was currently flying into range. She vaulted off of the ground without a word, spinning like a drill through the air and slamming into the Phoenix's back. The attack drove it downward, into striking range. Hopefully, they could be done with this soon and she could have Oscar explain why the fuck he'd gotten her involved with a killer. Abellio 0 Posted yesterday at 06:07 AM #11 Share Posted yesterday at 06:07 AM (edited) Abellio remained on a similar wavelength as Lydia. The two owed the man a lot. It really was just a matter of when and where. But that didn't mean they weren't entitled to the why. Abellio fucked with loyalty, but he never did it blindly. He followed up on Lydia's attack, his blade catching the Phoenix upon the left wing. In the same motion, he caught Lydia's down-turned spear, casually pulling her back down to earth as he followed through with his strike. Abellio took a few steps back and, as he flipped his sword over the back of his hand, turned on his heels to address Oscar and Mari in the middle of the fight. "Okay, look. Elephant in the room," he began. His eyes flicked between Oscar and Mari before finally settling upon the giant in the group. "You know I'm down to help with whatever, but a player killer? I didn't think you fucked with that crowd." Beyond dealing with them, but Abellio didn't want to out Oscar to Lydia so flippantly. He was proud of himself though. His two brain cells were working overtime. "I mean, you're obviously a friend Mari. I get that. But I - and I guess Lyd... Lysette too - are just curious about the hows and whys? Kind of a heavy thing to drop on a dude without any heads up, you know?" Mari 1 Posted yesterday at 06:26 AM Author #12 Share Posted yesterday at 06:26 AM (edited) her joke fell flat, neither one of them seemed to care about her dalliances, it didn't ease any tensions. The woman Lysette had turned to vault straight at the phoenix. Leaving Mari and the redheaded Abellio a moment together. Albellio first addressed Oscar, as though Mari wasn't even there. The word Player Killer dropping from his mouth so callously. Mari couldn't recall the last time someone had treated her like that. Aside from that group of self appointed knights. It was natural though. So she couldn't be mad at him. "I don't know you well enough to tell you." She said, her tone shifting from a jovial smile to a heavy frown. She had told her story countless times, over and over again in an attempt to absolve herself, and to get people to understand. But she was over it. These people were Oscars friends, so Mari wasn't going to be rude to them, but if they were going to treat her like this - then she was going to be nothing beyond cordial to them. Mari held her hand out to the side; weapon flashing in her hand. Stark blue eyes never once leaving Abellio's. She waited for him to have his back turned, purely out of spite - and followed behind with her weapon. Shifting past him she ran the Halberd up along the phoenix's chest. A sliver of HP remained. Mari glanced over her shoulder, fiery embers threatening to set her alight. "No offense, red-ness." She'd walk up to him and pick up a flaming feather from his shoulder, only to blow it away. "If you know Oscar, you both would know I wouldn't be here if I was any real threat." Oscar 0 Posted 19 hours ago #13 Share Posted 19 hours ago (edited) "Whoa there Seabiscuit," Oscar said as he rushed forward. His words were not meant to chastise Mari, but Lysette. Mari would be the same firecracker she always was. Abellio would probably be too stupid to notice. But Lysette had a nasty habit of losing her composure. A knee jerk reaction. She probably wouldn't even realize her spear was just inches away from Mari's neck, ready to catch her on the turn around. Not until Oscar parried the blow bare-handed, slapping the flat of the spearhead up and off its deadly trajectory. "Fair being fair, I think we can agree it's a perfectly reasonable reaction, no?" Oscar yeeted his sword at the Phoenix, the blade sinking deep right between its eyes. Of course, it was a phoenix. So it didn't stay dead long. The creature perched on Oscar's shoulder, pecking him in the head for all its 1 damage. Oscar ignored it. "Smart, even. You should keep your guard up around Orange Players. But Mari is a friend. And she needed help with some boss drops. And rather than have to camp the spawn for the next hour, I figured you guys could come help speed things along." Oscar shooed away the bird, pulling Mari off to the side and leaning down to whisper in her ear. "Please don't antagonize my friends. I have a bet going on about how long it's gonna take those two to kiss and I don't need a run-in with an Orange Player pushing those two closer to macking. Best behavior? Please?" He clapped his hands and spun around on his feet with a bright smile. "So! Let's call that hatchet buried." Lysette 0 Posted 19 hours ago #14 Share Posted 19 hours ago (edited) What surprised Lydia wasn't how quickly she reacted to Mari's feint, it was how casually she did it. Lydia saw how Mari moved as Abellio turned his back and just reacted. And if it hadn't been for Oscar, she would have tagged her. The gravity of her actions sank in. It worried her. Lydia didn't hesitate. In that split second, it looked like Abellio was in trouble and she threw herself into a fight that she doubted she would truly be able to win. But what worried her the most was that she didn't feel the slightest remorse over it. If the choice was between Mari and Abellio, she would choose Abellio every. single. time. But she also felt as if she understood Mari just a bit better. How had she gained that Orange Cursor? Had it been a loss of sanity or in defense of a loved one? A mere slip of her weapon? Lydia realized suddenly that it would have been so easy to tumble down a path she would never want to traverse. The fear and the trepidation melted away. Even before Oscar spoke his piece - though it only confirmed what she was slowly starting to realize. "Hatchet buried," she acknowledged. Though her hands still trembled and she still couldn't focus on the fight at hand. Though her posture relaxed, her gaze softened. An almost imperceptible air of understanding was about the best she could offer. Abellio 0 Posted 19 hours ago #15 Share Posted 19 hours ago (edited) Abellio didn't even notice. Not the feint intended to frighten or the almost-attack that Lydia had made. It was rather difficult to notice such things with a big fuck-off firebird bearing down on them. And it seemed that the least focused of the bunch was the most locked in for this fight. He did, of course, have something to prove. Getting better and honing his skills were paramount. And he would seize upon every opportunity to do just that. To prove that he had been doing just that. And so the three behind him had their exchange. As they did, Abellio was driving his sword into the newly-risen Phoenix's head. The boss shattered into so many triangular glass shards. A menu appeared at the fore containing the item he had just earned them. And when he turned around to celebrate, stupid and bright smile upon his face, he could see that a storm cloud hung over everyone else. He clicked his tongue, clearly something was amiss. Though he simply couldn't figure out what. "Hey guys, I killed the thing. That's the right item, yeah?" Mari 1 Posted 18 hours ago Author #16 Share Posted 18 hours ago (edited) "Smart, even. You should keep your guard up around Orange Players. But Mari is a friend. And she needed help with some boss drops. And rather than have to camp the spawn for the next hour, I figured you guys could come help speed things along." "Not wrong." Mari said as Oscar called them both smart for keeping their guard up around her. "Keepin' guard up is good - but being antagonistic, or rude can also....set people off." She spoke from experience, and from current knowledge of the laughing coffin members she had run into as of late. "W-whoaah..." Mari was pulled to the side, Oscar drawing in real close. So much so that a single bead of sweat dripped from his forehead onto hers. Mari shook her head to try and shake it off. She failed. Please don't antagonize my friends "I wasn't tryin' to..." Mari said as she shifted her gaze over to the others, "The redhead just seems a lil' fun to tease ." Oscar continued to say he had a bet. Something about the two kissing. huh. Mari shifted her gaze back to Oscar, a small grin on her face. "Do you have any idea how much I want to push those two to do just that because you asked me not to?" Mari asked. Always the brat with Oscar. Still...he was helping her so the woman simply sighed. "Right...Right..." she whispered back to him. "I'll be a good girl. Promise." Mari peered out from behind Oscar at the other two. Abellio seemed content with just being around. He was the less concerned of the two then Lysette still seemed on edge. Did they...really think Mari would hurt anyone? Mari closed her eyes and gave a long sigh. Right...of course they would. Her name appeared on the monument countless times. Her tally only continued to grow. "I'm trying to do redemption." she said- an attempt to reconcile with the people. "That's why Oscar is helping me today. I'm tired of telling my story, but I have no qualms if Oscar regales you over a cold drink sometime. It's no secret - I was kinda notorious - for all the wrong reasons. Rumours spread like wildfire. So please, get that information from Oscar." Each of them passed Mari their Hellstorm potions and the woman fiddled with them in her hands. Strangers. They were complete strangers and they still gave her a very valuable item, one that was quite honestly...a bitch to obtain. "Thanks." It was all Mari could say, she was never really good at properly expressing herself Edited 15 hours ago by Mari
Oscar 0 Posted 7 hours ago #17 Share Posted 7 hours ago (edited) It was still tense, but things were more workable now. Oscar gave Mari a smile. Truth be told, it was 100 grand that Oscar would have been happy to pay. Beyond the goofs and gaffes and the murderous control, Oscar was a romantic at heart. It was so fun watching the two slowly become ever more entwined. If he lost the bet at this exact moment, he wouldn't have been upset. But he would have been disappointed with the fact that he didn't get to witness the blooming stretch out. People, he found, were his favorite show. "I've made a point to teach both of you a lot of things," Oscar said, addressing Lysette and Abellio. "This is just another lesson. Again, you're right to be guarded. But we don't linger on past mistakes. If someone's out here trying to do better, we need to uplift them." He paused, sparing a small glance at Mari. He struck out with his sword - more slugs, more loot. "We should not be out here gatekeeping someone else's path to redemption. People grow and change. And, frankly, it would be a miracle if you guys don't wind up with blood on your hands too. Something something, sins and stones I guess." Abellio 0 Posted 7 hours ago #18 Share Posted 7 hours ago (edited) "Nah, it isn't really that deep for me," Abellio said. He put his sword away, signalling that his past discomfort was all but gone. All he'd wanted was a little extra information. Some context. Not to be jump-scared by a PKer when he thought he was just out for a casual stroll. His gaze shifted over to Mari, giving her a bright smile. "You know Oscar, he's pretty stingy with the details. I was just a little surprised, is all. If he's out here balling out with you, I know he's got a reason for it. It would have just been nice to know that reason before I rocked up. Orange Players are a little scary, yanno?" He found himself in agreement with everything Oscar said. He just thought it would be nice to give him the entire picture beforehand. A simple 'don't freak out' wouldn't suffice. Abellio didn't come with judgement, but he didn't appreciate being kept in the dark. "And you know Oscar," he repeated. "So you know how he gets down. What he's about." A vague reference to Oscar's extracurricular activities. How he could be confused about the contradiction. "You can understand the surprise. It's nothing to do with you, but I'm sorry for any hurt feelings. I really think we could all blame Oscar for this one." Edited 7 hours ago by Oscar
Lysette 0 Posted 6 hours ago #19 Share Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Redemption. Second chances. The opportunity to do better. It was the same thing Lydia was doing. Making up for the past, taking control of her life. Wasn't that the entire reason she'd rid herself of her tattoos and piercings. Lydia had reinvented herself in Aincrad. To the point that she dreaded the day they would leave. Those marks would be back. Those reminders that she'd let other people live her life for her. She couldn't bring herself to begrudge Mari her own reinvention. With a soft sigh, she also put away her weapon. Her shoulders slumped forward for a moment, then her back straightened. Gold orbs met blue. An expression not of distrust, but acceptance. "I - we - don't need to know your story. At least not from a third party. If you don't want to tell it, that's fine." Lydia stepped forward, her hand outstretched. The past informed the present, but it would not - could not - dictate the future. Mari was committed. She could tell by the mere fact that she was out here, boiling next to a caldera as she made her preparations for her ultimate redemption. "Doesn't matter. You're a friend of Oscar's. That's enough for me. He's right too. We're not gatekeepers. And if you ever need more help and Oscar's busy, do not hesitate to reach out." Her smile brightened, almost smirking. "And I would love to gossip with one of Oscar's fuck buddies. Maybe you can explain the appeal." Edited 6 hours ago by Oscar
Mari 1 Posted 6 hours ago Author #20 Share Posted 6 hours ago (edited) As Oscar spoke to his two...students? Friends? As Oscar spoke to both Lysette and Abellio Mari leaned toward Oscar, head on his sweaty shoulder. At least the tension was gone now. So it seemed the problem more so stemmed from the fact he didn't warn them about her first? Mari snorted. Yeh, that sounded like Oscar. Orange Players are a little scary, yanno? "More than you know." Her voice quiet, downcast eyes closing with a heavy sigh. All the things she had experienced lately. She was so used to the seedy underbelly of Aincrad that it was hard to forget that it was not the norm. Regular people didn't go out there poisoning others, playing mind games, and trapping people. "Honestly your best bet is to avoid them where possible." A little hypocritcal of her, "Unless they're with someone you know and trust." Mari lifted her shoulders in a shrug. "Trust me, I ain't mad. No feelings hurt. I have people ram their weapons into me as a hello. You're fine, redness." Lysette seemed more quiet, struggling with some kind of inner monologue Mari was not privvy to. In the moment - Mari didn't realize just how much she missed Oscar, and how his proximity was a comfort. Even with her head on his shoulder, cheek slick with both their sweat. It was... kinda nice. "And I would love to gossip with one of Oscar's fuck buddies. Maybe you can explain the appeal." Mari blinked at that. "Hmm?" Explain the appeal? Mari straightened and turned to look at Oscar. "I thought it was pretty obvious but..." Still looking at Oscar, Mari's eyes flashed mischievously. "-But I do suppose I have a preference to...redheads." Her eyes shifted to Abellio, amused. Because it wasn't a lie, Lancaster was a redhead. "Oscar just....has a way with things, and the stamina to keep up, is all." Edited 6 hours ago by Mari
