Freyd 0 Posted 15 hours ago #1 Share Posted 15 hours ago (edited) "Are you sure you're alright?" The old woman clung to his arm as he escorted her back from the woods to the village. "It's not safe in these woods at night, Giovanna. But you know that. Why were you out so late by yourself?" Head bandaged, long skirt scrunched into her gnarled hands, guided by the warrior's lantern, she'd pat his black bracer sympathetically. "Nothing notorious, I promise you. Just gathering along my daily routes. I must have taken a spill at some point and bumped my head, spilling my basket in the process. In the time it took to re-collect everything I'd dropped, night had caught up with me. Nothing more." Pride clearly wounded worse than her body, Freyd still found it surprising for such a random thing to occur to a quest giver on her own in the woods. Not part of the quest itself, so far as he knew, such bumps and spills were usually scripted or prompted by player interaction. NPCs didn't typically just have accidents when players weren't looking. Not so far as he had ever seen or heard. "Would you might if I backtrack, retracing your steps? After we get you home, of course." A reassuring pat over gnarled hands. "And if you were looking for anything in particular, I can keep a look out while I'm there." *** GUILD RANK 5 (+5% col, +5% EXP) Objective complete: Talk to Giovanna Freyd | HP: 1340/1340 | EN: 170/170 | DMG: 20 | ACC:5 | AA | EVA:1 | LD: 29 | CD: 10 | PROSP:3 | QTY: 2 Spoiler Name: Freyd, Bara no kuro kishi True Tier: 20 Level: 34 Paragon Level: 161 HP: 1340/1340 EN: 170/170 Stats: Damage: 20 Accuracy: 5 Evasion: 1 Loot Die: 9+20 CD: 0+10 AA QTY: 2 Keen Sight x10 (Specialties, 50 SP) Discerning x10 (Specialties, 100 SP) Equipped Gear: Weapon/Armor/Trinket: - Mentor's Pride - Absolute | ACC III | AA Armor/Trinket: - Small Konpeito Sack | LD III | QLTY I Shield/Armor/Trinket: - Unbridled Potential | PROSP III | QLTY I Combat Mastery: - Combat Mastery: Damage R3 Combat Shift: - AOE Shift Familiar Skill: - Grappling Familiar Custom Skill: - Shades of the Gemini (CS) - Beckon the Void (CSA) Skills: - Energist - Katana R5 - Searching R4 - Unhindered Extra Skills: - Disguise - Survival - Meditation - Forgotten King's Authority Inactive Extra Skills: - Lady Luck - Photosynthesize - Brawler - Assault Mode - Frozen Hide Addons: - Focus - Precision - Stamina Housing Buffs: - Bedroom: -1 energy cost for the first two expenditures of each combat - Bathroom: The first time you would suffer DoT damage in a thread, reduce damage taken from DoT each turn by 20% (rounded down) - Basic Kitchen: Increase the effectiveness of a single food item consumed in a thread by +1 T1 slot. Freyd 0 Posted 15 hours ago Author #2 Share Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Most players would have simply picked up the quest, ignoring the NPC's condition to go on about their business. It was true that he reserved a certain deliberate spite towards certain specific ones, Abdullah in Fortaleza foremost among them, but mild mannered quest givers like Giovanna and Zackariah in Tolbana had never done anything worthy of such disrespect. He knew they weren't actual 'people', whatever that even meant in the world gone mad and explained with nothing more than the words of a mad jailor. More than a few times, Freyd had mused to himself how none of them might be people, or all of them might be, including the NPCs. Or, that everyone in the real world might be watching their every action in real time. Would it change how players acted? For some, maybe. In Freyd's eyes, it just reinforced that a certain basic decency, even towards mobs and NPCs, cost players nothing. Even if the only reward was some small sense of personal integrity, it was totally worth it. "Here," Gionanna's voice jarring him out of his over-lated daydream. "Take my compass. It can help you find what you need." Confused, but politely grateful, Freyd saw to it she was settled before setting out in search of a hunch. *** Objective complete: Receiving Giovanna's <<Cursed Compass>>. Freyd 0 Posted 15 hours ago Author #3 Share Posted 15 hours ago (edited) The compass seemed broken, its needle spiraling without purpose or obvious intent. "Seriously? How does a compass get lost? Is this some sort of weird Jack Sparrow shit?" The thought of Disney copyright infringement somehow proving to be the source of their rescue from this nightmare held its own twisted appeal, but no dice. Turning it every which way made no difference, the things clearly lacking motivation to fulfill its purpose. Choosing instead to rely on his own skills and senses, Freyd backtracked Giovanna's woodland travels to the site of her mishap. A broken log laid where it had no reason to be. Traces of spilled herbs, snatched up in haste. Footprints. Boots. Giovanna's. "But... not those." Leaning down for a closer look, these were mob prints of some variety. Bipedal, one print left indelibly where where the rest were light and hard to discern. "Why here? Is that... mugwort?" Freyd disliked the plant, for some reason, vaguely recalling some childhood allergy. His grandfather often told stories about how it warded off evil spirits, particularly shapeshifters. The print amidst the plant looked burnt, as if the flesh had chemically reacted to whatever pressed against it. Eyes irritated by proximity, Freyd's gloved hand sifted through the mangled patch. Something sharp poked at him from beneath the flowers. "A shard? Here? Why does it look nibbled on?!" *** Foraging | ID 248418 | LD 3+29=32 | CD 4+10=14 | Demonic Shard found! Freyd 0 Posted 15 hours ago Author #4 Share Posted 15 hours ago (edited) The compass clicked in his hand, needle flicking back and forth erratically between his torso and the shard in his hand, like it was trying to tell him something. Brows furrowed, trying to follow its meaning, suddenly pulled between two equal poles, yet it wasn't spinning like before. The pull had become more strongly polarized with some strangely familiar affinity. Blue eyes narrowed, then flared in glimpsing possibility. "Here? How? Why? Which one...?" The needle flicked back and forth "Shit. Is it already out?" Racing back to the nearby village, Freyd dropped off the borrowed compass with an excess of haste. Plans were in motion. Plans he contemplated and conceived as a much younger, angrier, colder version of himself. Plans with consequences. "Do you recall seeing this in the woods, Giovanna? Were there others?" She blinked, eyes popping wide at his spontaneous arrival from behind a steaming tea cup. Dawn's rays having only recently drawled over the horizon to greet her waking. "Oh, uh... yes? I'm a grandmaster forager. Shards do tend to pop up once in a while, once you learn where to look. Why?" Freyd looked like a cross between fascination and concern. It was already feeding. *** Objective complete: Bringing it back to Giovanna, and return the compass. *** Thread Closing: Freyd receives: 3927 EXP (Word Count [860/5*20] + Quest [300]+ 5% Guild Rank bonus) 618 col (15% P5 Reward [589] + 5% Guild Rank bonus) Unlock Forager gathering profession 1 Demonic Shard 1 Mon Edited 14 hours ago by Freyd
