Raidou had fixed the front door, and managed to sweep and clean some of the debris...but it still left a lot to be desired. There was also the issue of outside. Mari's house was not within a safe zone, and every so often packs of ice wolves would roam. So with a heavy sigh Mari shoved a beanie over her hair, tucking in errant strands behind her ear. She forgo her usual tattered scarf and replaced it with another, white and woolen - so she would perhaps blend in a little better with the snow. She wore thick fur boots and plain black pants, rugging herself up to the best of her ability - that is...except her upper half. She wore the same orange shirt she always wore. Not liking the idea of her arms being encumbered by thick winter material. The sun had barely rose over the horizon, and this would be the second day Mari would be heading out before Lancaster woke up. Then to the trees, a hand rested on one which was marred with deep gashes. Signs of frustration...Funny that....Mari had taken so much of her anger and frustration on these trees over the years - her most recent plight was now sleeping soundly in a bed on her second floor. "Funny that..." Mari muttered as her fingers traced the bark. It felt like it all happened so long ago, but it had only been a few months. If Mari had a chance to reflect more, she would have - but the echoes of howling were already sounding the alarm. The pitter patter of pawed feet across the snowy plains as a pack of wolves attempted to jump her from behind the treeline - with quick work her blade met their bellies, and all fell into the snow. For nothing more than a simple swing from the powerful woman would rip the entire squadron asunder. Their yelps barely tugging at her heart as they dissipated into red fractals. Mari...in a weird kind of way, actually liked the idea of being relegated as his sugar mama. All jokes aside it was nice to just hang out with him. He was brash, rude, callous...prideful and selfish. But in a weird way they were all traits she liked about him. Then again...she was engaged to Lancaster - so maybe she had a type. What did her brother say? Something about being attracted to dangerous situations and to danger? "Hah..." Mari laughed softly, her breath turning to steam in the early morning. It wasn't wrong. Most would have turned and ran for the heels after watching someone rip a mans arm clean off. But Lancaster had done that for her- and hell that was before they even became what they were. The man was violent, brash, selfish... Yup. Mari seemed to have a type. The sky bathed in one of her favourite colours, the golden ambers of twilight. She loved that colour. Mari paused in her onslaught of the local pests to watch the sun slowly rise, till its rays hit her eyes and she had to shift her gaze away. Lancaster was probably still asleep. He'd gone through quite the ordeal recently, Mari wanted to give him as much rest as possible, although she felt guilty for leaving the bed before he woke. "All for our dream...." Mari muttered to herself quietly as another pack of wolves charged at her. She'd keep fighting, over and over and over again to protect her dream. Against beasts, mobs, NPCs, ans players alike. She finally had someone who accepted everything she was and Mari would refuse to let it be taken from her. Not by her brother, not by Raidou. Not by anyone. Another pack of wolves decimated by the slightest of attacks from the woman. Mari glanced down at her weapon. When she had nothing going for her except to clear the floors as quickly as possible in a vain attempt to somehow recover those lost. Then, it all fell apart. No..She fell apart. Hid away from the world - barely doing anything but surviving till the next day. No quests, no gallant fights on the frontlines. Just hidden away from the world... Then she came back. She ran into Baldur, Shield...Oikawa...and others, all who for some reason or another had faith in her and so Mari returned to the frontlines, and despite her time away - she was still strong. Mari sighed as another wave of Ice wolves came at her. This was a common monthly occurrence, her wiping out all the wolves. She was able to handle herself, thrown right back into the frontlines, and right back into the preparation of another floor boss fight. Granted...there were times where she faltered, the fight against Cerberus came to mind - where she could barely get a hit in. Or the endless void on the 11th floor, where it all became too much. Where she threw herself into it and Beat soon followed. Beat...an absolute madman, Mari never really caught it at the time, but looking back on it now - there could have been something there between her and Beat, much like her and Oikawa - there was just....something there, but at the same time, there never was. Stolen glances, or the squeeze of a shivering hand. Mari doubted Beat ever caught on. Hell, Mari only did recently. And Oikawa- well. As Baldur said, who the fuck confesses to you, then completely disappears? Mari could relate to that, or at least...used to be able to relate to that. But in no few words telling her that she didn't matter? Was nothing more than the sum of her sins? To make up for bad situation after bad situation she HAD to fight? HAD to cast aside every iota of who she was, and who she tried to be for the 'betterment of Aincrad?' What kind of words were they? And even after all that it was never good enough for certain people. Those very people, who swore to things like truth and justice were the ones who threatened innocent lives. Ironic really, the feared Pker was the one who was doing her best to protect those closest to her when... Another angry thrust of her weapon, and a plume of smoke formed as the next pack of wolves exploded in flames - burned alive. Mari felt angry...furious even. Why was it those who always acted in the name of 'the betterment of Aincrad' or 'Justice' the ones who thought they could do what THEY wanted, just because THEY had a green crystal. It felt unfair. All that, and the weight of her own sins, and Mari shut herself away. Away from those threats, away from the world, and away from near everyone and everything. Even so, a familiar name made her heart swell. Lancaster --> Mari: Mi Amore, where did you run off to? Mari couldn't help but smile, she was terrible at using any kind of messaging system within Aincrad. She knew Lancaster was too. He was out of the Laughing Coffin now, so the amount of notifications he received probably all but disappeared, but if he were anything like her - and Mari had no doubt in her mind that he probably was. He'd still find the sound annoying, and his eye would still twitch every time he heard that low ding signalling incoming mail or messages. Still. He reached out to her, she was no more than 10 minutes away from their home. He was probably barely awake - forcing coffee down his throat. Mari --> Lancaster: I'm clearing pests from the area. I'll be a few more hours yet. The day is yours Mi Amore. Mari sent off the message and noticed a small knotted hole in one of the nearby trees. Right...She did have the gathering skill. So - with caution to the wind Mari shoved her hand into it. She pulled out a single material. That either meant more materials, or something else. Luckily for the ginger haired woman...she pulled out another material. She pocketed that too. Mari went in to see what else she could fish from the small hole in the tree but paused when she got another message from Lancaster Lancaster --> Mari: I will run bath for you, let me return to you twice over Mari blinked, she had to read it a second time to make sense of it. Oh...Oh.... Mari couldn't help but laugh. He wanted to run her a bath? Dote on her like she had on him that one time? That was.... that was so sweet. This was the man people wanted dead? This absolute dork of a man? Mari could picture him now, cigarette jutting from his mouth, a goofy grin on his face. Mari wasn't sure she entirely trusted him to get the bath just right - with all the oils and salts involved. But she wouldn't dare deny himself, nor her the opportunity.
