’Oh, so you think I haven’t noticed?’ There was still a measure of humour in the blonde’s voice, though Nari couldn’t ignore the fact that it wasn’t malicious or teasing by any means – in fact, if anything, she would almost have considered surprised if she had to label it as anything. Not that Nari was anywhere near an expert on reading other individual’s thoughts, emotions and feelings.

’Noticed…?’ Nari dragged on the topic, both wanting to hear the answer, and dreading it all at the same time. A million different scenarios and outcomes had already flashed through her mind, and although she hoped that some might come to pass, she expected many others to be more likely. Others which would, in her state, be of questionable impact upon her own mentality. If only things could remain as they were forever. That would be nice, wouldn’t it? Too nice, I guess.

’Yeah, noticed. That thing that you do when you see things, even when other people try and hide them. Like actions, or emotions…behaviours, even. Any of this ringing any sort of bells?’ Onora dragged the words on, as if finding some measure of amusement in the entire situation – not that Nari could blame her, as much as she disliked the attention and teasing, a part of her wished it would never end. She wondered if that weren’t an odd reaction to have, all things considered.

’Ah…’ The word drifted on the air as Onora and Nari fell silent, the pair waiting to see who would speak first. Nari found herself chewing her lip, fighting against the urge to fill the quiet air. Onora had always been more patient in these situations, and although Nari wanted to remain as quiet as possible, she knew that she was going to be pushed to the limits of her abilities – and, in that fact, forced to lose this contest of wills as she always was.

’Ah…well…yeah, I guess…I see your point. Uhm…’ The words were stumbling from her now, falling out without hesitation and growing with intensity and speed as each one came. Nari wanted to shut herself up, to stop the moment that she knew would come tumbling out if she continued. Yet, like a flaming truck heading for a petrol station, she was unable to brake hard enough nor fast enough to avoid the calamity that would be downfall or firework. ’I…may have…an interest…you know, like…a thing…sort of…like a crush…or you know, that thing where you really like…uhm…’

Onora was supressing her laughter as best she could at this point, trying to hide the amusement that she was feeling. Nari, however, could feel the fits of laughter and vibration in her lap as the blonde giggled away at her failed attempts of confession – if it could even be called that. I’ve gotten this far. All or nothing, as they say, no?

’I…look, I have a confession to make. We’ve lived together, been together for a long time now. A very long time. Like, a super long-‘ Nari found herself straggling again, the words coming out too fast and too easily now, so much so that her point was being lost. She shook her head, forcibly quelling the storm of emotions, the words and the confusion that was welling up inside herself as she considered what she wanted to say. ’Not the point. The point is…’

Whatever she had wanted to say, the words were taken from her as Onora spoke first, the blonde’s soft voice cutting through anything Nari wanted to say. ’I feel the same.’

Admission, without the fancy confession required. Nari flushed harder as she smiled awkwardly, the emotions within her suddenly exploding as she realised how foolish she’d been. A grown woman, who couldn’t express herself, and one who had been reduced to the behaviour of a school child – and for what? For her to point out that it’s not required, but in her way. No teasing, no condescending, just…pointed.

’Come on, I think it’s about time we head home. I think we have some serious talking to do, wouldn’t you?’ Onora pushed herself to her feet, holding out a hand for Nari to take. The knightess didn’t hesitate, grasping the proffered appendage, and pulling herself to her feet.

’Yeah…yeah I think we do…I have feelings I want to share, feelings I want to…discuss.’
