[PP-PT-F14] A Terrible Night to have a Curse (Cull of the Dead)

Recommended Posts

Reytac wrapped the grayed out leather mask around his lower face, cutting off the pervasive ash that seemed to always be drifting downwards no matter how long he’d sat in the teleporter pavilion waiting for it to subside. It was strange, to see a place where the main source of lighting was literal thin streams of lava that wound through everything. He held up one hand and flexed it, watching the red hues on his skin shift and dance under the unnatural light and color shifting. A shuffling on his shoulder made him glance at Aphrael, who seemed distinctly unhappy here. One hand reached up and scratched the center of her chest, which made the raven lean forward and into the scratching.
”Easy, girl. Here, go ahead and head back home, I don’t think the ash in the air here is going to agree with you.” The raven let out a mournful call, and nudged her head against his cheek before lifting up and flying into the teleporter and vanishing however it was the companions did. Reytac tightened his mask and let out a sigh before looking around. He knew that this place was one of the more dangerous just for existing -the lack of light had led to some odd developments in the mobs, and.. Certain mobs, that found themselves very much at home in the land of eternal night. He chuckled softly, the sound muffled by the mask he wore. It was actually part of the reason he was here – he’d heard a rumor that there was a quest, here, that could give access to a special skill like the one he’d unlocked for helping Firefly against the Monkey King.

And while his level had climbed and he was working on getting better equipment, Reytac still didn’t feel like he himself was ready for the front lines. He knew he was missing gaps in his knowledge  - skills that other people took for granted he hadn’t even heard of. He didn’t know of this was one of those skills, but he was going to work on rounding out his capabilities. He'd need to be able to fill at least a couple of different roles before he put himself forward to try talking to the men and women actually fighting on the front lines. As it was, he was nothing special, just another mook who wasn’t even ready to prove himself. He shook himself, trying to banish the self-deprecating turn his thoughts had taken as he started hunting around, looking for the quest NPC or event that he was searching for.
Reytac hesitated – a harangue from someone echoing back in his ears. She was rough, but her concern had been there. So Reytac took a moment to let someone he knew, know where he was. His fingers danced across his menu, typing up a message and shooting it off to Acanthus.

Quote

-Reytac

The message sent off, at least in some part appeasing the vague sense of guilt about going intk a dangerous situation without letting anyone know, Reytac cracked his neck and looked around. And did a double take, his eyes going wide above his mask as he caught sight of someone who was leaning against one of the walls near the teleporter plaza. Rey hadn’t recognized the man at first – the odd grayscale color shifting was partially to blame, added on to the fact that the one time Rey had seen the man himself he’d been in distinctly casual attire, and now, he most definitely wasn’t. Rey held up on finger, muttering to himself as he stared in disbelief at the man a short distance away.
“I know that Acanthus is down in lower floors after something happened and she needs some down time to recover – but what’s another front liner doing slumming it down here? It sure as hell isn’t for the lovely scenery!”

It was time to finally check another item off Wulfrin's ever growing To-Do list. That item was collecting the ever elusive life stealing sword art. Wulfrin had been eying this quest for awhile now, but since unlocking his unique skill, the quest seemed even easier. Wulfrin made his way through the streets of floor 14's creepy teleport plaza in nothing more than a simple tunic and trousers. He had opted for the hyper offense approach considering he was traveling with a literal thorny wall that was more than capable of drawing all the attention and damage from him.

"Oh hey look it's Acanthus!" Wulfrin pointed out their guildmate to his wife and personal protection detail, Ciela. "Looks like there is another player with them to. Isn't that Reytac? The guy who bought some of my cotton candy drinks?"

Wulfrin pushed forward towards the other two players with all the excitement of a child just let loose to hang with friends.

"Y'all looking to hunt some vampires?" Wulfrin asked the group of players, conjuring up a tray of meats and cheeses. "I've got a literal damage sponge with me today, so I'm in tactical nuke mode. Pretty sure I'm considered a war crime to vampires with this build I'm running."

Boop!

Her system menu chirped as she studied the latest batch of crystals from Floor 8. Her last order from the vendor in Ellesmera had somehow been substandard. The concept floored her—the entire purpose of NPC vendors was to have some measure of consistency. But from that last batch, she’s barely made any masterpieces. Each crystal was brittle, and refused to house all but the lowest of enhancements. This new box seemed to have a brighter glow—she could only hope it was her pessimism warning her away from the crafts, and not a sense of intuition.

That’s right. The message.

Reytac really was making leaps and bounds in such a short time. He was now looking at quests that even Acanthus hadn’t followed through on. She sent a short reply back.

Quote

Reytac,

Yes. <<Cull of the Dead>> unlocks Restorative Strike. It’s one of the more difficult arts to unlock. I haven’t done it yet, but we can review the info broker’s guide together and see whether or not the two of us can handle it. If not, I may have a few contacts that are interested.

After making contact with Reytac on Floor 14, she caught the gaze of a familiar guildmate.

Quote

"Y'all looking to hunt some vampires?" Wulfrin asked the group of players, conjuring up a tray of meats and cheeses. "I've got a literal damage sponge with me today, so I'm in tactical nuke mode. Pretty sure I'm considered a war crime to vampires with this build I'm running."

“That works for me.” In truth, she was relieved to see the two of them here. She had glanced through the quest details on her way down, and it was definitely the kind of quest that needed a little more backup. “I’ve got all my consumables in order and my equipment repaired, so I am ready to leave. What about you, Reytac?”

NOTE: Custom Skill (Disabuse System) is active. The skill will be considered inactive once any player requests in a subsequent post.
