[PP-F2] Regicide [Caelam, Lessa]

There's one down, Caelam noted. Just one more to go. Losing HP had been jarring; he'd forgotten what it felt like when the gauge begins to empty. No pain, only a massive impact and a thoroughly unpleasant lurch in the pit of his stomach. It felt like missing a step and a punch in the gut all at once. Luckily the wasp hadn't managed to poison him, and a half a second later Alkor streaked in and in short order it was little more than a data burst.

"Alkor to the rescue," he drawled as he circled to face the last remaining wasp. The older boy's team spirit never failed to get on Caelam's nerves, but now wasn't the time to let it distract him. The Queen could appear at any time.

He was right on Lessa's heels as she went after the remaining wasp. No sooner had she pulled her massive sword free from the thing than Caelam was edging into its aggression zone. Before it could pursue the woman he lunged forward and brought the Anneal blade around in a high speed slash...

And missed once again. A loud stream of curses followed the boy past the wasp as he stumbled and hopped, trying to regain his footing. He'd barely gotten turned around when the insect rushed him. The Anneal blade came up just in time to keep him from being bowled over, but the wasp's stinger slipped in beneath the blade, the last inch sliding into Caelam's chest almost tenderly.

Alkor watched quietly as Caelam took another strike at the wasp and failed to make contact. It made him wince. The kid had different ideas of how to keep the party alive, but his intentions were noble enough. Alkor thought so, anyway. It was enough for the older boy to step forward and place a hand on Caelam's shoulder, tugging him firmly back. "Switch with me," he said "after this, I have something for you."

He brought his blade up as he moved past his friend, eyes locked on the wasp. The insect buzzed without pretense, watching Alkor as he approached with his weapon. There were no words between them; Alkor spoke with an intensity only his sword could give voice to.

When he shot forward, the wasp suddenly shifted into its shaky guard. It was enough to stop his blade and prevent damage, but Alkor shook off any fear of reprisal from his enemy as well. "Take a second," he said to the other two. "Think. Don't just run in."

Alkor deals no damage.

Lessa shivered as she watched the wasp's stinger pierce Caelem's chest. She sincerely hoped that he had not been poisoned. The effects of her own poisioning had only just now worn off completely, and she would not wish that experience on anyone. She had felt completely helpless, and it had probably been sheer luck that she landed her last attack. Thankfully, the young man did not react the way she had when she had been poisoned. Perhaps it would hit him later, but for now, he seemed alright.

Though the exchange between Alkor and Caelam was brief, Lessa noticed. She smiled softly. It was nice seeing how these two men got along, and how they fell into their mentor and mentee roles. She knew little about Caelam, but she trusted Alkor. If he would take this boy under his wing, he must have thought he was an okay character. I'll have to get to know him better when all of this is over.

As Alkor retreated, she realized that he had made an opening for her. She waited a split second, calculating her next move, before lunging forward. As she brought her heavy claymore over her head, the wasp suddenly shifted to the right. But she made a split-second adjustment, and tore a gash in the beast's armor. Her improved accuracy had saved her, and she knew it.

"Your turn!" She called out to Caelam, tossing him an encouraging smile.
