PP F3: 'Exchanging 'Pleasantries'

Recommended Posts

Mari wasn't always the most observant woman around. So she didn't notice Aaphi's initial fear of the situation. To her, it didn't occur that this was still a very valid death game for some people - the third floor didn't pose much of a threat to her. So she never thought too much about it, these days the biggest threat to Mari wasn't the game - nor bosses. It was other players. "Mm, I don't think so - then again at my level I don't see anything on this floor as much of a threat." Mari said, rubbing her chin in thought. "In all seriousness, I won't let either of you die." And it was true, Mari didn't mind their company. And for her, that was a difficult feat. Kuromado seemed the complete opposite.

"You two, are like polar opposites." Mari commented, pulling out her small dagger. "Well, there is the first one." Mari said, pointing toward the minatour - it emerged from the forest, it stood, at least three times as tall as Mari. Covered in matted dark fur, its eyes shone a bright red. It held a large battle axe in its furry hand, Mari took a few steps back, pushing the two men forward. "Alright, showtime!"  She'd soon follow suit.

Aaphi, jettisoned into the battlefield, clutched his spear in hand as the minotaur turned to see what caused the sudden thudding of dirt and grass. It was him alright.

The minotaur stopped to sized him up. There was no telling what was going though its mind as it stood processing the new situation. The moment lasted while it studied him, but as he did so it was also slowly winding back for a swing of its axe.

Aaphi wised up and decided to move, but it was too late. The bullman was in full swing, and instead of attack, all he could do is fumble as he ducked to get out of the way.

"HEEEYAH!" Kuromado hooted as he flew at the beast, sword in hand. That dodge was lucky. As usual, Aaphi lost the element of surprise, but while the minotaur was focused on his dopey friend, kuro took his opportunity... to miss and fail.

The minotaur swung backhand at him with the axe, and though missing himself, was not hit by kuro's attack in the slightest.

Mari hid a smirk, as the two charged to battle - both flailing horribly and missing. Luck was in their favour however, as the Minotaur swung widly at them, and missed...At this rate it was more of a flailing dance routine than a fight. Mari slowly approached the battle. Watching the two - and the Minotaur. Her eyes every so often glancing behind him.

"5 minutes..." She breathed.

It would be five minutes till the next one approached. The two were not handling one well, so two? Mari figured she would step in sooner rather than later.
The Minotaur attacked first, pressing it's entire weight on Mari. Contray to Mari's pastel pink appearance and small frame- she was strong. She may not be a heavy armour user like Lessa - but she was small, and deft, Her HP blinked, as the Minotaur landed a successful hit, but with the thorns on her armour, it was hurt in the process, and her gauntlets, as she grabbed hold of the Minotaur and pushed him back, managed to zap some of that health right back to her.

"My turn, blossom." Mari cooed toward the Minotaur As she ducked under another blow from its axe, slashing her blade across its torso, a deep red gash appeared. Thanks to her acrobatics, and her extra mobility as a performer she was able to offer it a roundhouse kick to the torso, knocking it back. Mari didn't avert her eyes from the beast. "THAT, is how you fight." She stated.

Aaphi watched in amazement. it was never an ordinary sight to see; such a small stature knocking the piss out of such a large and beastly one. Seeing the way Mari handled herself gave him hope. Maybe there is more than swatting at the enemy in hopes of success for him in the future. But for now...

"Oh, so you mean like this?" He leaped into the air and held his spear to the side, drawn back like a desert scorpion. When he descended on the minotar, Aaphi deftly avoided its attempt to swing at him in mid air, and while swinging sideways, rammed his spear into the bull-man's chest. He sat there, suspended by the handle of his spear, until swiftly kicking off from the minotaur and rejoining the party.

"Uh-huh, yeah, its about time we cooked things up!" Kuro said, before rushing at the bull, swiping in fury.

The Minotaur heard him coming and shuffled its hoofed feet on the dewy grass in aggravation. Aaphi's poke had pissed it off quite peevishly. It's eyes glew red with hate as it drew back for a blind, mighty blow. Kuromado paid no heed. he had his sights set on flaying this cow's hide like paper. He gripped his sword tight as his charge drew to a close and he met the beast head on.

It was a bust. Kuro stumbled and ducked to catch his sword, A light breeze brushed the back of his neck as the axe swished by. There was a mixture of noises, like the grinding of rock and the muddy thud of mettal getting stuck in the earth. Kuro looked up to see the minotaur had completely overthrown his swing and lodged it's axe in the surface of the mountain.

Aaphi was first to attack the Minotaur, hanging from his pole arm before pushing back - he managed to deal a successful strike. Mari nodded as Kuromado managed to take charge. Literally. He charged, straight toward the bull. "You know, there is a skill for that." Mari pointed out, she was considering gaining that skill herself. But wasn't sure how worthwhile it would be for her. Maybe she should just gun for the final hit in a boss fight. try to gain an illusive Unique item. There were rumours that Zel gained one from the battle tournament. Mari still regretted  not joining that.

Mari stood on the sidelines, as Kuro darted to the side - the cleft of the Minotaur blade missing him, by the mere whiskers on his chin, not only did it miss him but the blade landed hard into the side of hard rock. Mari bought her hand up to her face, hiding a small smirk. She was enjoying this. Her eyes darted to the dark thicket of the wailing forest. Soon, soon that second Minotaur would emerge.

It was a shame, that the two were doing a pittance in damage. Mari sighed, scratching the back of her head. "Guess you two need to work on that damage, or lack thereof." She muttered.

Stepping foward, blue eyes every so often darting to the forest -she could see it, even now. The far off glint of red - the second Minotaur was fast approaching. "Tch....we're running out of time. Too bad, was hoping to show you my nice lil' cave I call home." Mari added sarcastically.

She darted toward the Minotaur, who still had the axe lodged in the side of the stone. Mari was nimble, she was quick, her armour was light...Mari bent her knees and sprang up. Landing with her dagger thrust between the Minotaur's shoulder blades. Mari furrowed her brow, twisting the dagger as the beast gave a shriek, oddly effeminate for such a large beast.

Kuro was growing impatient with the blatant fact that he and Aaphi were barely putting a dent in the minotaur. His pride was an easily torn tapestry, and his patience was just as thin for Mari's criticism. He huffed, " Yeah, well maybe you should work on tightening that flapper between your nose and chin.". He stomped and turned to his friend "Aaphi, give that thing a new hole, will ya? i really don't want to be caught between two of these things!"

"Relax, man! These things are dumb and slow!" he called back. It was true, the minotaur had been failing just as hard as they had been. He was starting to wonder if they'd make it out without a scratch despite their extremely low levels. He readied himself for another thrust. "Have some more, you bovine, bastard!" he roared as he stepped inward and jabbed toward the center of the minotaur. His step was solid and his aim was true, though his boastful battle cry forfeited his initiative to the MoB and allowed it to braced for the attack.

A clang rippled through the air as the head of his spear met the beasts axe and bounced to the side, piercing its shoulder. "Gotcha-" Aaphi started, in a mocking tone before being cleaved at the opposing shoulder by the downward swing that came next before he could pull away. "Gtch-....YAAAAAH!" he cried out, stumbling back.

"SH**!" Aaphi grunted as he got his second wind and gripped his spear. Criticals were no joke. He'd delt them before, but never received one. And like that, a third of his health was gone. It was safe to say that any more of those would do him in. He was starting to contemplate the decisions that had landed him in this predicament when a shouting blur came rushing by him.

"AAAAAAYAAAAH!" Kuromado raced but a few steps forward, past Aaphi and straight at the minotaur. His sword shone a light blue as his charged his attack and swiped at it furiously, putting a large gash in its thigh, all the while wearing the glare and grimace of a man too filled with anger to have any fear. Deftly ducking down, he deterred an oncoming retaliation as the minotaur swiped in an attempted to dust kuro's head from his shoulders.

Mari gave the smallest of grins, the two did not hit hard - but they most definitely were persistent. Mari wondered if they had  any plans to join a guild. Mari was planning to revamp her guild, and such players, may just be well worth it. Mari wanted a small, profitable and useful guild rather than a large messy one. Mari laughed as Kuro told her that she should, for lack of better words. shut up. Mari shrugged. "I was going to say - I can help with that." She jested. It wasn't until Aaphi screamed, in a mixture of pain and shock that her mood seemed to shift. No longer carefree. Mari stepped between Aaphi and the Minotaur.

She wasn't going to let him die, not here, "Ya get hit again, and big bad Mari may just have to heal you." She said as she turned her head over her shoulder. Flashing the man a wry smile. It seemed that Kuro was pissed that his friend had been hurt, for Mari said more words to Aaphi, but they were lost - unheard over the startling scream of their companion.

Mari brushed her pink fringe out of her face. It was time to end this. Mari  didn't move from her position, she simply stood - and carefully aimed the dagger, before throwing it. It landed with a small 'thwak' right between its two glowing red eyes. The Minotaur gurgled before bursting into an array of data. Mari casually wandered over to the dagger, which now lay uselessly on the floor and picked it up.

"If you don't wish to fight the other right now, I suggest we move on. If you do wish to fight-." Mari paused, bringing up her HUD - pulling a potion out of her inventory and chucking it toward Aaphi. "Best ensure ya don't die. Now then, which one of you is going to loot the monster?" Mari asked, pointing to the small orb that was left behind. She had no interest in taking whatever treasures, or lack thereof it contained.

Aaphi took the potion gladly and administered it's effects. "Thank you kindly." he said in gratitude before raising an eyebrow at her offer to loot the beast. "Oh? i thought you wanted the loot. You made a point to say so befo-"

"Aaphi, Aaphi," Kuro interrupted him " Two of many rules when dealing with women. Accept the fact that they can change their mind, and don't make them repeat themselves" he said, matter-o-factly. "On that note, dibs"

"But-"

"DIBS. dibs is sacred and unbreakable."

Aaphi rolled his eyes and kuro lavished over the floating orb symbolizing the Minotaur's remains.. "Alright, here goes, time to rifle through the belongings of the dead."

"Right," Mari said, one hand on her hip as she shifted her weight to the side. She used her spare hand to point to the left, into the thicket of the forest. "We can go take refuge in my, abode, we can turn around and leave, or we can go ahead and fight the other Minotaur who is only about a minute away from engaging us." Mari said.

Realistically, Mari wasn't sure she could be bothered fighting another beast; she didn't mind her present company, but it was a bit of a burden when she was the only one dealing any real sort of damage. The two seemed to bicker amongst themselves as to who should loot the mob. Kuro was the one to do so, whilst Aaphi was busy talking.

Mari gave Aaphi a small grin, approaching him and giving him a pat on the shoulder; "Poor Aaphi." Mari jested in mock sympathy. Giving the player a pat on the back. "C'mon let's head back to my cave." She said, walking off - fully expecting the two to follow her.

She didn't look back, if they followed; she would provide shelter and a pittance in food; if they did not; then they would have a few moments to high tail it outta there back to town before the second Minotaur came.

The ball was in their court now; still they were interesting; and regardless of the outcome - Mari would not mind running into them again.
