[PP-F4] - It's Burr Outside <Avalanche> (Completed)

Recommended Posts

Tyger nodded quietly, rooting around for more materials in that area. When she pulled out a second and placed it into her inventory, she gave Baldur a grin.

"Yeah, i'm pretty good at finding stuff at a good price."

Free was the best.

"Yeah, this would be pretty romantic if we weren't hunting down a giant, angry ice elemental, eh? Still romantic, considering."

She leaned her head on his shoulder and stared into the fire happily.

"Pretty comfortable though, how about you? This fire is pretty nice."

((OOPS DOUBLE POST SORRY I THOUGHT BALDUR POSTED I'M TERRIBLE AND SORRY SORRY SORRY)) *Just gonna count this as Avalanche mob post since he's going first anyways.

A rippling roar reverberated through the empty trees, shaking them from their roots up. Ice fell from their frozen branches and into the snow, leaving small, burrowing paths as they shot off into the distance. Everything was eerily silent as Tyger stood up slowly, equipping her shield for good measure.

"Something's not right."

Another roar shook the trees, causing more ice to crack and fall. Tyger watched the icecicles shoot off into the darkness. It was almost as if the whole mountaintop had gone silent. Her breath froze in her throat, and she gripped Baldur's arm and pulled him up just as the Ice Elemental, Avalanche, materialized in front of them. It's eyes honed in on the fire, and then the pair in front of them. Like a frost demon, it roared, sending a breath of icy air to Tyger. Icecicles formed in the gale, pelting into her armor relentlessly. When her shield was brought up to help against the onslaught, the creature stopped.

"Baldur, be careful!"

The surprise visit from the elemental put her off guard. With her glasses frozen, she had a hard time seeing the white and blue beast in the dark on the white mountaintop. Her swing was wide, and although she'd thought she'd hit, she didn't.

"I'm going to have a hard time hitting him!"

She yelled to Baldur, watching the creature's every move with intense calculation.

Baldur stood up suddenly when the giant ice monster and put his hand on the handle of the blade, "How nice of it to come and find us, instead of the otherway around!"

Tyger tried to strike at the creature, but her glasses had been frosted and she couldn't see well. Baldur charged forward at the creature and went to draw his blade, but the frost made it stick. Suddenly off balance, Baldur tumbled into the snow to the creature's side.

"Ack!" He cried out, burring himself in the soft top layer of snow.

Tyger clenched her teeth as Baldur missed, and the best turned it's head towards Tyger with an icy, frozen malice. Two turns already and neither of us can hit? What did we just get into? She worried to herself, sword and shield wavering with her shock. Avalanche saw it as an opportunity, and stepped forward in a big, bulky frozen mass. White light glew around his fist, and he brought it down on Tyger. She brought her shield up in just enough time, but with such a wide piece of metal to work with, the strike drove half of her body into the snow.

Even if she wanted to attack, there was no way she'd get to the beast in time. Hopefully this bought Baldur a few seconds to slice at the creature. Instead of attacking, Tyger wriggled out of the snow and held her defense, thankful for her armor and skills, even if she hadn't healed just yet. Hopefully that'd kick in later, when she needed it. Still, the giant full health bar of the enemy made her nervous, and she exchanged a nervous glance with Baldur. Do we need to run? Her eyes begged the question. Would the mob follow them all the way down the mountain, considering it was a boss, or would it leash?

It's too early to be thinking about that. We can do this.

Baldur got to his feet with an annoyed growl and rattled his blade for a moment and then drawing it free. Now that he was flanking the creature, he ran forward and slashed at its leg, the cyan light trail slicing through it's icey form.

"I'm gonna turn you into shave ice!"

The blow landed, and did a good chunk of damage, but with the size of this mobs HP bar, it would take almost another 10 hits to bring this thing down. He looked up in the corner of his vision where he could see Tyger's HP bar below his, thankfully it was still almost full.

"We got this!"

Free from her snowy prison, Tyger readied herself for the next blow. She wasn't evasive enough to dodge them just yet, but she'd get to that point eventually. Thankfully, her mitigation would help in this aspect. When the bellowing beast let out another frost breath attack, Tyger's shield soaked up most of the blow, and what got past that was met with her armor. The worst thing Tyger felt was cold, honestly. His attacks weren't hurting too bad, which was probably a bad sign. Could you get frostbite from this game?

"Baldur, be careful! It's so cold around him!"

She wished she had a flaming sword like one of the protagonists in one of her favorite series. That'd sure put this beast in it's place. Unfortunately, she was stuck without it for now. Her sword would have to do. The orange streak her slash left on the Ice creature's leg was good enough for her. She'd do her best to keep it's attention and hate. If this beast critted Baldur, it could be bad.

Baldur gritted his teeth as the giant ice monster hit his girlfriend again. He needed to get the juice out. He needed to whittle this thing down.

Idly he wondered if he had a spear named Icepick if this would go faster. Watching their hits move the mobs HP bar so slowly made him realize this thing had WAY more HP than anything that they had fought before.

"Maybe we should have brought an ice bucket so we can take some of him back to the house!" He tried to flash her a grin in the midst of the battle as he slashed at Avalanche again.

This would be a long fight.

"NO I'M OKAY I DON'T WANNA TAKE HIM BACK TO THE HOUSE!"

The wind was beginning to pick up, so Tyger had to yell across the field for Baldur to hear her. The raging monster was beginning to get flustered, and swiped at Tyger with an icy fist. Nimbly, she backstepped and used the momentum from her body to jump forward, slicing a few layers of snow from the creature's arm. It let out a howling blast, and she felt the air grow colder around them.

"Can we b-b-beat him q-q-q-uickly please?"

Her chattering teeth interrupted her words, and made it hard to see straight when she looked at the lumbering monster in front of her.

Baldur could hear her teeth chattering, and knew that she wasn't taking the cold well. He could feel the bite of the snow in his fingers and his toes, on his ears and cheeks, but he was able to block that for now. Tyger's last hit made the giant mob take a half step back and Baldur had to quickly move out of the way, but that put him between the creature's two massive legs.

"Aiyah!" Baldur let out a massive kiai as he slashed at where the giant snow cone's hamstring should have been. His training had not prepared him for fighting giant ice monsters, but at this point he just need to land blows to wear down its HP since it was so focused on Tyger.

And he needed to do it quickly so he could get her back somewhere warm.

As Baldur dashed between the creature's legs, she could see the gears turning in the creature's head. Why attack the one with the shield, when it could go after the one landing the most hits, and doing the most damage?

"Stupid coding..."

Tyger cursed under her breath, watching the elemental walk after Baldur with a slow, powerful rage. The snow froze to ice where it walked, so Tyger did her best to not slip as she followed the creature. It raised a fist, and Tyger ran forward, sliding on one of the footprints to go between it's legs, putting herself between Baldur and the Avalanche before the blow landed. Good thing that ice was there. The fist struggled against Tyger's shield, her free arm stuck helping keep the shield up versus the power of the Avalanche. Baldur should know what to do. As long as this power struggle continued, he'd be able to slip in and get some hits in, instead of facing the creature head on.

Baldur's eyes went wide as Avalanche turned to face him. He danced between the creature's legs, using his speed and small size to confuse the creature's AI and prevent it from facing him, but he couldn't move as quickly in the snow as on dry land, and the ground where Avalanche had stepped became icy. Suddenly there was a giant fist descending on him, Baldur threw up his sword to try and help block part of the incoming blow when a loud metalic clang rang out when the blow should have him him and he saw Tyger's form with her shield raised up with both hands, blocking the blow.

"Thank you babe!" He called out, but didn't waste a moment moving. He dipped around her and her shield and ran under Avalanche's arm, slashing at the wrist which pummeled Tyger's shield, his block breaking off chucks of the ice elemental.

The Avalanche snarled, cold wind gushing from it's mouth. As it roared into Tyger's shield, the metal grew colder and colder until Tyger worried it might cause frost bite if she touched it. The power struggle continued, and Tyger was unable to do anything about it. Baldur was zipping around, causing all the damage he could, and that would have to be enough for now. The Avalanche couldn't catch Baldur easily enough, especially when it had an easy target under it.

"Just keep attacking! When I can move, I will! I'll keep it busy as long as I can!"

Tyger wriggeld her left hand's fingers, and then her right. If she let off of any pressure, the beast would overcome her and get a free turn. With a heave, she pushed forward, knocking the creature off balance, but dropping her sword in the process. No attack this turn, but least there were 4 arms in this fight now, versus the 2 prior.

"Let's finish this off."

Baldur really hated the punishment Tyger was taking on his behalf. He needed to move faster, hit harder. The sooner he could dismember this thing, the sooner they could get her warmed up. Maybe he'd treat her to something warm to drink; somewhere that had a large fireplace.

"Urrraaayyyyaaah!" Baldur cried out as he turned back towards the wrist he had just slashed, leaping into the air with an overhead blow. His sword burned with a brilliant blue light as it struck the wrist and a concussive force rippled through the ice, shattering Avalanche's wrist and causing a huge section of ice that made up his fist to fall to the ground.

As Baldur landed on one of the ice patches he slid and almost lost his footing but was able to dig the blade into the ground for balance and to stop him.

Freed from her grapple, Tyger readied herself as she circled around the creature. The Avalanche let out a roar, causing the snow to shift with it's power. It wasn't about to go down without a fight, and if it went down, it was going to bring Tyger and Baldur with it. With the loss of it's arm, the Ice Elemental slammed it's free fist into the ground, causing a tremor. The snow shifted dangerously, like a frozen sea ready to swallow up the combatants for a chilly experience they'd never survive. Eyeing a tree with bare branches, Tyger hooked her shield to her back and ran for it, hoping Baldur did something to keep himself alive as well. She scrambled up the bark, shakily finding handholds as the ground tremored beneath her. It was almost as if the snow and ice had caused a sea to ripple around the elemental, keeping it from harm.

When she neared the top of the tree, Tyger turned Tiberius Surge backwards in her hand, sword facing inwards. Closing her eyes momentarily, she found a rhythm in the shaking, and prepared to jump. Both hands gripped the hilt of her sword as she jumped, aiming for the back of the Elemental. Tiberius Surge rippled with an orange power that radiated off it's steel and formed a beacon in the snowstorm. Time seemed to slow down as she slowly approached the body of the Elemental. Immediately, time sped up and her sword plunged into the ice, and remained there as the beast turned it's body to swat at Tyger. It missed, but Tyger couldn't jostle herself free.

"Baldur, finish it!"

She yelled, holding onto her sword for dear life. Her body glew with the healing powers from her lifesteal as her legs dangled down.

Baldur found himself caught off guard as Avalanche pounded the ground, he was almost out of its radius though, so the impact sent him flying into the sky and crashing into a snow bank. He managed to roll just right and avoid taking any damage, but his eyes immediately shot up looking for Tyger. He watched as the monster continued to pound the ground while she climbed up a snowy deciduous tree and then leaping for the monster, driving her blade into its back and then hanging on for dear life.

He couldn't help but smile. She was fearless.

Baldur's eyes took in the scene before him. Whenever it struck the ground, the earth would shake and send everything flying into the air while shards of ice flew about. He decided to take a risk of his own.

Getting a running start, Baldur ran at the creature. It stopped pounding the ground in order to try and swat at Tyger. His eyes were focued on where he had slashed the mighty creature in each leg earlier. When he had managed to deal enough damage to the ice around the mob's fist, it had broken off. The boss mob failed and spun, trying to shake Tyger off, but Baldur's eyes were laser focused. Each step Avalanche took was another mini skating rink, and as it stomped about it made the whole area icey, just as he was almost to the edge, Baldur leaped and landed on the ice in a sliding position as he gained speed he spun and crashed into Avalanche, hitting the other side of the leg from his earlier slash. There was an explosion of force and the entire right leg shattered.

Without any more strength to support it, the earlier slash in its other leg became a fracture, and then that leg too shattered, causing the massive ice monster to fall and just before it would have crushed Tyger, it exploded into a meteor shower of icy polygons.

Baldur, unable to stop, continued spinning across the ice until he ran out of it and tripped and fell into the snow back. After a heartbeat he rolled over, laughing his loudest.

The creature continued to swat at her, icy hand free to squash her like a bug. But, she was annoying like that itch you just couldn't scratch, and her sword was right in that spot. The last thing she wanted was to let go, and then get stomped on or lost in the sea of cascading snow. Baldur weaved his way throughout the sea of snow, and started taking down the creature. She couldn't see much, but she could feel herself falling with the Avalanche. It seemed ironically fitting, that she'd be squashed on a mountaintop with snow by a thing called the Avalanche.

Before she hit the ground, her sword came loose as the Avalanche exploded into the crystals, and she hit the snow with a thunk. Her body sank a little, but after a few moments, she pulled herself from the snow and looked for Baldur. He was laughing in the snow, and it was incredibly contagious. Once she was sure that no monstrous creature was looming over her, about to stomp or fall on her, she started laughing too. She stumbled over to Baldur and collapsed in the snow bank next to him, sharing in the laughter.

"We… did it!"

She gasped, between laughs.

"That was so badass…"

Baldur sat up and grinned at Tyger, "We did! You were awesome babe!" And then he fell back into the snow, laughing with joy and making a snow angel before he coyly grabbed a handful of snow and threw it over at where Tyger was sitting by him.

"Haha!" He laughed triumphantly before rolling over and pinning her down into the snow, a huge smile still on his face.

"I just wanted you to know, that if I had to be trapped in this death game with anyone, you're the last one I would want in here, but I am certainly glad to have you here by my side. I wouldn't prefer anyone else."

He smiled down at her and then kissed her, before hopping to his feet and helping her up.

"Now lets get somewhere warm. I feel like I want to light myself on fire."

Baldur complimented her, but Tyger felt that this trek belonged to him.

"Yeah sure, I did good, but did you see the way you finished him off? It was like, boom! And then a crack, and then he was falling, and then he exploded! It was amazi-"

Her statement was cut off by a handful of snow Baldur had thrown. Her eyes narrowed, but before she could retailiate, Baldur had pinned her down. She wriggled to escape, but then stopped when he started talking again. She knew what he meant. She didn't want him to be in the situation she was in, but it sure helped that they were together. Not an ideal thing, but they were together.

"I'm glad i'm here with you, and you here with me. Makes it easier to deal with. And, it's still kinda fun!"

She kissed him back, and then stumbled to her feet, rubbing her hands together.

"Warm sounds nice. Let's get warm."

Baldur grinned when Tyger mentioned her desire to get warm.

"I will say. One super awesome thing about this game? You can eat as much as you want, and you don't get fat."

They continued for a moment as Baldur thought about something then chimed in, "Real life has a lot it could learn from Sword Art Online."

He smiled at her and then took her hand as they walked through the snowy forest at night.

"Truer words have NEVER been spoken."

If she could eat this much and still not gain any weight in the real world... Yeah, that sounded awesome.

"Well, I love you is right up there with those words, I think."

She bumped his hip with hers playfully as they walked. The scenery was beautiful, not that they weren't worrying about wolves, trees and the Avalanche. It was nice. Take away their weapons, and they could have been a pair of lovers travelling around, walking hand in hand down a snowy mountainside.

"Maybe not giant snow monsters or angry trees. Those can stay here. Oh, and those GIANT fricken BEES. They can stay."

She rubbed her cheek against his shoulder, and then stood on her toes to give him a kiss on his cheek.

"But, not so bad."
