[SP-F3] Elven Interactions

Recommended Posts

Reu decided that his next attack was going to be an overhead strike. The glint of the noon-day sun shone off his blade as he raised it high overhead and swung downward in a slight arcing manner. Happy with the results of his work, he stepped back and eluded the next attack from the Monster Fish. The Monster Fish's breathing was becoming labored now. Giant gasping breaths as it no doubt was beginning to wish it had simply stayed in the water. Reu smiled at how the battle was going his way!

Suddenly, the Monster Fish drew up on it's hind-legs and let lose a charged attack from its mouth. Reu barely had time to see purple and blue sparks before he felt a searing pain across his body. As the pain subsided, thanks to the healing effects of his Battle Healing skill, Reu looked at the ground, scorched with some sort of Area of Effect attack from the Monster Fish. Reu limply rose to his feet, and still in pain, swung his sword wildly missing wildly as-well.

After a few moments of back and forth action, Reu had regained his senses. He felt an opportunity to strike out at the Monster Fish. He weaved left, and dodged right, until he was nice and close to the monster. Swinging his sword in an up-strike along the front-side of the beast's giant mouth, Reu felt his blade dig in and knew that the damage enhancement he paid for, was well worth the price! Reacting with pain, the monster fish reached out and using a massive webbed claw, the size of a bear's paw, swiped at Reu throttling him.

Making one last feeble attack, the Monster Fish attacked with a half-heart'd webbed claw attack once more; easily blocking and returning the attack, Reu watched as his blade drove into the Monster Fish, unbelievably happy with the fact he just killed his very first Monster Fish. He checked the Monster Fish for loot, unfortunately it didn't drop any regular loot, but Monster Fish do have special loot drops, and so that's what he was peering over.

Excited with his find, he hollered at Mirluka to come see. After a long minute, he realized she hadn't come yet. Turning around to look for her, he suddenly became conscious of the fact he was standing on the stone-bridge, in the field of daffodils, completely alone..

Where did she go? How did I get so wrapped up in the battle that I didn't pay attention to what was happening to her? Reu chastised himself for making such a foolish error. Here he was, supposed to be protecting and escorting this helpless NPC elf, and he was failing, miserably, at his duty to do so.

Ok, ok. Relax, relax. Just focus. Closing his eyes, and then opening them slowly, Reu began searching the fields of daffodils. He searched right to left, turned around, and searched another direction slowly. Not seeing anything, he went back to his original search area, and re-searched. Suddenly he saw her, she was about five hundred yards away, being dragged by the hair from another elven warrior. Reu set off, intending to free Mirluka and continue on their way to her village.

He quickly ran through the daffodils, the heights of which were up to his knees. He stomped through them, leaving a green and yellow path amid the field of yellow. He was closing ground on the two, he was 400 yards out, 300 yards out, finally he was 200 yards out when suddenly, Reu saw a small glint of steel in front of him.

Side-stepping,  an arrow whisked by his head. If he hadn't been paying attention, and been extremely lucky, that would have not been so pleasant. Looking ahead, he could see now that the Elven Warrior, Archer really, had stopped and drawn out his bow. He was readying another volley and Reu knew he wasn't going to be close enough in time. He couldn't just stop and let the Archer pin him down with fire, so Reu knew the only thing to do would be to keep moving, and hope he could close the distance without taking too many arrows.

He ducked his chin and moved forward, keeping his eyes on the archer, hoping to see the next incoming shot.

The next shot came without Reu noticing it had even been fired. He hadn't seen the archer even release the drawstring on the bow, nor had he seen the arrow mid-flight, all he saw, was an arrow which landed about ten feet in front of him. Reu, let out a deep sigh. If the elven archer hadn't been such a bad shot; that might have ended badly. Reu was too far away to attack the archer, and so he continued advancing; now he found himself 100 yards out.

100 more yards to go, if I can get in close on him, then he won't be able to use his bow.

Reu looked ahead, again planning his movements across the fields of daffodils, hoping to continue to be a hard enough target for the archer to miss.

ID 14466 LD 5 + 1 Search = 6, MD 2

He watched the archer ready another arrow, he drew the bow back, but he must have been rushing because the arrow sailed into the ground, only a few yards away from the archer, and nowhere near Reu. Seeing this, Reu knew he had one chance to close the distance. He sprinted his legs out, he sprinted until his legs burned from the lactose acid, he sprinted so hard he thought he was going to tear the muscles from his legs. As he did so, he advanced to a point where he was able to draw his sword; and move into an attack on the Archer. He was going to capitalize on the penalty this archer would have from still having the bow equipped. He wasn't going to let this opportunity pass him by.

ID 14467 BD 4 + 2 (archer's bow penalty) = 6

Reu leaped into his attack, a running, leaping, slashing attack with his blade. Determined to strike through his enemy, he focused on slicing through the archer, not just slicing at him. He slipped his sword just above the shoddy blocking technique the archer attempted, and Reu felt his blade drive into the creature, as it ripped out a loud, sing-song cry of unintelligible elvish. Turning about, Reu prepared himself as the Elven Archer equipped a sword, it's ident-name becoming an Elven Warrior in the process. Looking next to him, he could see Mirluka, slightly jostled, but she looked to be ok as she scrambled to cover.

For his next trick, Reu decided to try an overhead slash attack, in a diagonal pattern. Stepping slowly left, he happily drove his blade into the yellow-eyed elven warrior standing before him. Combat thrilled Reu, few things kept him as entertained as swinging his blade at his opponent, but the rush and exhilaration of combat was what made this game so special. Slowly dodging left, he dodged the incoming return strike from the Elven Warrior and all but decided that he wanted to continue fighting, he wanted to continue fighting as long as he could.

Reu continued swinging his blade at the foe before him. It was a quick series of strikes between them but at the end Reu came out gritting his teeth and re-thinking his love for battle. The elf had ripped his blade into Reu just after Reu had landed another strike on him. A very even exchange, all things considered. The thrill of this game has to do with the close quarters melee-combat, it always served to keep things interesting. Reu felt that now it was time for him to try a slightly fancier method of attack. He just had to figure out how...

Spying his opportune attack, his flashy attack he would try, Reu ran forward swinging his head overhead and around and around and around some more. He added in screaming, and he chose to call this, his approaching helicopter attack. To his utter amazement, he actually hit his opponent with this ridiculous, extravagant, and completely unexpected attack.

To his credit, the Elven Warrior stood his ground after being struck. He turned his profile sideways and swung his sword down and low, bringing it up into a rising crescendo, he made contact with Reu at the peak. It was a beautiful, and painful strike which Reu would remember for a long time. The blade really tore into his face and it really hurt. Reu resolved to avoid that attack in the future. He resolved to be better in the future.

Darting to the left, Reu found himself running after the Elven Warrior. It wasn't that the Elf was trying to get away, simply that it was looking to obtain a more advantageous position to attack Reu from. Reu however was not about to allow him a chance to flank, and kept pace. However, because of their movements, neither was able to mount any significant offense. Continuing their darting movements, Reu knew that both would be eying the next opportunity to strike. Reu could only think to himself, that all he needed was one more well-timed blow.

Seeing his next opportunity, Reu dove in. He leapt forward, pushing off with his big toes, bringing his striking blade into the opponent before him. He watched as his opponent de-resed in front of him, erupting into a burst of colorful particles mixed with bits of data. *Sighing* Reu was thankful the battle was over. It had been an interesting one that was for sure, but he also noticed how the enemies in the area weren't particularly difficult, and for that he was very thankful. After he got his elven escort home, he would need to move on and try and find more difficult areas. Perhaps he would look to see what quests may be available soon..

Reu took a long look around for any loot, but he didn't find anything. Disappointed, he turned and engaged Mirluka in a conversation.

"Mirluka are you ok?"

"Yes swordsmen, thank you so much for saving me again."

Reu was thrown off by the pure unfiltered appreciative tone in her voice. "Oh, um...listen it's fine. Why don't we just each lunch? I got us a fish earlier for us to chow down on."

After making a small camp, the two quietly ate their lunch in the middle of the field. Reu couldn't help but feel troubled about letting Mirluka be captured again. It was his job to be protecting her. "Mirluka, why are your people at war with this rival clan?"

"Well swordsmen, it's about the hunting spots. A long time ago there was enough hunting for both of our clans and we lived in peace. But as time as gone on, fewer and fewer monsters are roaming the floor for us to hunt. It's not very important that we conserve the hunting spots and share as best we can, but the rival clan doesn't agree. They are stronger militarily and so they believe they should own the hunting spots, and decide what our clan can or can't have."

Reu quietly thought for a moment. He couldn't help but feel that it was the players' fault for reducing the number of hunting spots. They were clearing the floors aggressively and killing all the monsters, not one player had ever sat down and thought about the effect they may be having on other parts of the game. It's a bit disheartening really, because the players don't have a choice, they have to get stronger and they have to clear the game to go home and that means killing as much as they can for the experience points.

Quietly, Reu continued to eat his lunch. He wished there was a better way but he couldn't think of anything. All he could focus on now was getting this elven girl back to her clan.

After finishing lunch, Reu and Mirluka set off again across the rolling field of daffodils. They had a long way to go still and Reu wanted to make it to the forest by night-fall. The forest carried a darkness penalty, something Reu could do nothing about, but he could at-least mitigate the effects of the darkness penalty by not wandering around the fields in the dark.

As they continued their movements across the field, it became apparent to Reu that this quest was far from over still. They would occasionally run into monsters which inhabited the area, and they were constantly on the lookout for more Elven Warriors with whom they were wishing to avoid combat with. Reu had to admit, keeping up with Mirluka was exhausting. He hated escort quests because they were so taxing mentally. Having to constantly worry about someone else, well avoiding that feeling of worry is half the reason he went solo so often. The other half was because he just didn't play well with others. Reu was really the type of person who would be more then friendly with you, but at the same time would expect you to be able to pull your own weight in combat. It would just be easier that way, traveling with someone strong. Reu liked to keep strong people around him, the type of people that were stronger then he was actually, so he wouldn't have to worry about them so much. Because Reu did worry about his party members not dying. He worried about them not dying a lot actually. Reu was just too kind.

Eyeing a cave ahead of them, Reu double-checked his map. Between the map and the guide-book, Reu read the cave's name as "Cave of XWuZheAR, The Explorer." Reu sighed. Why would a player name a cave after their-self? If they moved through the cave, they would be able to cut down on travel time, and they would certainly reach the Forest of Wavering Mist by dark. The guidebook listed the Cave as being a 2.5 out of 5 difficulty, meaning Reu could probably get through the cave just fine, even with his npc to escort. Reu stopped for a few moments to think, and then explained to Mirluka what was about to happen and where they were going to be going. He had decided, they would travel through the cave to save on time and hasten their journey to the Forest of Wavering Mist.

Stepping into the cave, Reu could see that it was dark. Or rather, Reu couldn't see very well, which is how he knew it was dark. ...Whatever, Reu thought to himself. At-least it's dry. Slowly he moved forward, until he found a spot where it wasn't so rocky and he could stop and double-check his map. The path they wanted to take through the cave was fairly straight-forward and the entire cave had been mapped well. It looked like their was a good spot to check for Iron Ore up ahead, and then just before their exit, you could even check for a Steel Ore deposit. Not too bad Reu thought too himself.

Looking ahead, Reu could see, but not too well. The darkness conditions would be best described as 'low-light' and so he would have to accept the darkness penalty that came with it. But still, things could be much worse he thought to himself. He and Mirluka continued making their way through the passage. Suddenly Reu found himself dealing with an annoying bat that didn't like these intruders who had invaded its home.

Reu squared up, ready to fight this pesky bat.

As the bat rushed in to attack Reu, he quickly made a slipping motion, similar to a boxer slipping a jab. He slipped outside to the left, heh, easy enough he thought to himself. Turning to strike at the bat, Reu realized just what a hard time he was having seeing in this darkness. He couldn't see the bat but he swung his sword anyway. Sadly, he didn't feel it make any type of contact during his strike. Raising his blade, Reu prepared himself, eyes searching for the bat, trying to find it before it launched its next attack.

Suddenly, the bat flew into Reu, smashing right into his face. Then it flew around to his back and ripped into his neck from there. It slowly sucked the life from Reu, who watched as his health points dropped lower and lower. Injured, Reu swung his sword at the bat, making contact and sending it careening into a cave wall. Turning, the bat was now preparing for another strike against Reu, while Reu was preparing for another strike against the bat.

The next attack by the bat was a brutal one, it flew in fast and low and took an extremely damaging bite out of Reu's knee. Reu felt himself buckle, but as the bat attempted to strike at Reu's other knee, Reu took the opportunity to stomp the bat. Crumpled and flying with a limp, it flew off, finding a small perch on a stalagmite to hang out down from. It was still eyeing Reu, with injured yet hungry eyes, and Reu knew...this fight wasn't over yet!

Reu watched as the bat made another dive-bomb attack. Once again it was targeting Reu's knees. This time however, Reu did his best square dance and avoided the attack from the bat. Still feeling rather jaunty, Reu tried another stomp attack, this time feeling the full weight of his heel come crushing down on the flying rodent. He watched as the rodent failed to move, and then suddenly a loot drop menu appeared! He gained 40 Col and 1 crafting material, not bad for an easy fight.

Picking up his sword, he and Mirluka moved on. Continuing their way through the caves.

They had been slowly moving downhill, and now were at the apex of the descent. It was going to be all uphill from here, thought Reu. Undeterred, but keeping mind that he was in a good place to check his map, he opened it up and was happy to see that he was almost near a designated water resupply point. Most likely it was a stream (the guidebook didn't list specifics), and so Reu excitedly closed the map after planning out the route.

Before they set off however, Reu was looking at the walls in front of him. This was the Iron Ore deposit he had talked about earlier, deciding to see if he could obtain any materials, he walked up to the wall and looked for any weakened cracks in the ore vein which was sticking out.

ID 14748 LD 13 + 1 search - 1 darkness = 13

Disappointed, Reu felt the hard ore and felt how strongly compacted it was. He would never be able to get any of this out without specialized mining equipment. Sadly, Reu decided to move on, and find this water supply point.

Feeling undeterred, Reu looked at the small fork in front of him. To the left was the path back uphill, which would take them towards their intended destination, to the right was the path which would lead him towards the water re-supply point. Deciding that he really wanted something to drink, Reu directed Mirluka to follow him down the right path.

Overall, the path wasn't too difficult for them to navigate. Fairly straight-forward, and fairly even, they only had the occasional large boulder to navigate and only the occasional rough terrain to worry about. Along the way, Reu noticed that it was slowly becoming a little brighter inside the cave, something for which he was grateful.

He had been continuing to speak with Mirluka about her people during this entire ordeal, she had been more then willing to answer questions related to her people the Elves, and divulge a bit of lore about their history. She had an entire background programmed into her memory-banks, which crafted a rich history of her people as a nomadic race, moving from point to point, and eventually they had settled in the Forests of Wavering Mists. It was actually quite enlightening for Reu who loved finding out the rich and detailed lore programmed into Aincrad. There were parts of the lore which spanned only a single floor, sometimes only a section of a floor, but then their were parts which covered multiple floors in detail. The history of the Elves was one of the more complicated stories he had been introduced with so far. They were a prideful people, with their own hierarchy, and very strict society based around their strict adherence to their personal customs and beliefs.

Without a doubt, Reu was quite fascinated by Mirluka's people. In fact he was enjoying the conversation so much, that he didn't even notice they were just one turn away from the water resupply point. Rounding the bend, Reu's eyes suddenly filled with amazement. There, before them, was a giant waterfall. It formed a pool of water which was being cast in daylight from an opening in the cave ceiling. It was truly one of the most beautiful things Reu had seen in Aincrad.
