SP - F3 Earning a Living: Restocking the Store #1

Recommended Posts

Mari had ventured down to the third floor, she was in need of more materials. She didn't expect for her store to run out of them so quickly; then again she had been very hard at work with crafting, especially with the upcoming boss fight. Now that the meeting was over Mari had to focus on her crafting. She was on the outskirts of the forest; ruffling through some grass; but she came up empty. Mari gave a frustrated sigh. Today would be a long day. Mari decided to use the last of her 'Candy Bag' to help with her loots today. It had two uses left,  so she may as well use it. She pulled it out of her inventory and took a handful out. Chewing bitterly on the sweet, sugary substance inside.

Mari went back down to the next tuft of grass; carefully trying to upheave some of it; she was successful in that fact; gaining some of the silken substance. "Finally..." Mari muttered; not that she had been at this for long, she was just very impatient today. She wanted to get at least 5 materials before it hit noon; she wanted enough time to go back to her store; and craft up the items before nightfall hit.

Not that it really mattered, she rarely slept these days.

Mari kicked at the tufts of tall grass in frustration, as she came up with nothing "Stupid f**king grass. can't do sh*t." Mari did have Calrex on the hunt for Materials, but she needed some now, she needed some today. She didn't want to skip a day of crafting because she was too lazy to go out and do it herself. It's not like she had anything better to do. She didn't exactly have any 'friends' to get along with.

Mari grabbed her candy bag again; grabbing the last handful of candy that was in there; Mari had to scoff at her eating the substance. She gained it from the Halloween event last year. If this were any normal candy, it'd be gross by now.

Now that she had her little fit, Mari bent down to the grass again. It was a useful substance for Alchemy, as she had used it for her healing crystals; so it'd be nice to have some more- ready to be dried and used. Since the crystals were one of her hot ticket items. Mari successfully pulled up another tuft of the delicate, silken grass. Satisfied, she placed that in her inventory.

After trying one last time, and coming up blank Mari decided it would be best to move on from these tufts of grass. She would move onto the next thing, Mari dusted off her hands, attempting to be rid of the dirt that began to form on her palms. She gave a disgruntled noise. Normally she would attempt to wash her hands right now; but there was little point since they'd just get dirty seconds later.

Mari decided to move onto the next subject; a large. old oak tree, it was decrepit, and dying. Still, it was perfect for harvesting the bark. Mari figured the bark would be good in herbal remedies and dyes, another semi popular item in her store. It seemed that everyone wanted to change parts of themselves, and how they looked. Mari started to pick at the bark, but was having a lot of trouble actually pulling it off the tree.

Mari furrowed her brows in frustration, she was at this for a good 10 minutes, but was still having little to no luck, her nails just weren't able to get up and underneath the bark. Mari was holding off on using her dagger; worried that it would break the bark altogether - still, it seemed as though she didn't have a choice in the matter. Mari shook her head in dismay. "Been out here for half a bloody hour and only have two lousy materials."

Mari slammed the dagger into the side of the tree, much harder than she had intended. The bark she was attempting to scrape off did dislodge, however with the sheer brute force of her strike, it quickly disintegrated into nothing, its data bursting into hexagonal shards. "Great...just great...." Mari muttered with a roll of her eyes.

Mari had no idea how Calrex managed to do this, material gathering for a living? what a tiresome task. Did he simply go and kill mob after mob? That'd make more sense, Mari wasn't in the mood for battling right now though, so she opted for the more tedious process of physically attempting to obtain materials from the environment around her. With the dagger still lodged in the tree trunk Mari took a deep breath, before exhaling, attempting to calm herself down. She still had a long, long, long way to go.

Half an hour quickly turned into 45 minutes, and Mari was growing more and more impatient. She pulled her dagger out of the tree trunk and tried again. This time carefully trying to pry the bark off. She was successful in the first step, but the tree must have been more delicate than she gave it credit for - for as the bark hit the floor, it disappeared. Mari was pissed. She was so close, yet so incredibly far. This whole trial and error thing was fine when she was mixing ingredients, but collecting them? No. Just, no.

"One more time..." Mari muttered, as she repeated the process of carefully wedging her dager between the tree trunk and tree bark - hoping to pry it off and have a successful material gather. The Bark did come off, but it flipped off, like a spring board. Mari had to duck to avoid being hit in the head. "That's it, you can get f**ked tree." Mari said as she kicked it before moving deeper into the forest.

Mari moved deeper into the forest; and set her sights on another tree; this one newer; more alive. She brushed away some of the ants that travelled up the trunk , before running a finger along the moss that grew on its surface. "You'd probably make a good ingredient." Mari muttered, as she pulled out her dagger, trying to delicately scrape some off. Unlike the bark of the last tree. This was not delicate. It was obstinate, and remained on the trunk. Another failed attempt for Mari.

Right, so if this moss was stronger than the bark, Mari would be able to use more force on it. That is exactly what she did, she rammed her dagger hard up underneath it, and began to drive it back and forth in a sawing motion, it seemed as though it was a success, the moss rained down, and Mari quickly pulled out a vial to catch it. Successfully obtaining it. "About time." she muttered to herself as she put the vial away.

"Right." Mari said, feeling somewhat pleased that she was finally able to get another material. 3 Materials in such a time frame wasn't ideal, but she had to tell herself it was better than none. Even if it wasn't even enough for a full day of crafting. "Too bad I can't just whip up a hundred of these things." Mari said to herself as she attempted to scrape more moss off the tree, sadly she failed.

"Maybe its time I tried collecting some sap..." Mari thought out loud as she sat down at the base of the tree, her legs tucked up underneath her. "That's useful in most everything." She muttered - as she drove her dagger into the base of the tree, chipping away at it in hopes that it would start leaking the gooey, golden liquid. She had yet to get anywhere.

Mari had been hacking away at the base of the tree for quite some time, but she had yet to reach any sort of sap. Mari wasn't foolish, she knew that not all trees produced the sticky substance, and she was beginning to think that this tree, was one of the trees that didn't. "What a bother..." Mari muttered as she stood up once more, glancing around; all the trees looked pretty similar; it either meant that they all didn't contain sap or it was simply a hit and miss guessing game.

"These games of luck....are such a bother...." Mari muttered bitterly as she dusted off the dried leaves from her person. She would have to move onto another tree. She couldn't just skip the sap; it was useful in a variety of things, and was also a useful thickening agent. It helped give crystals a bright glow and was a substitute ingredient in her Calming Honey. Mari headed over to another tree, "Right - let's see if you have any." She said to it.

Mari carefully ran her hand over the tree, every so often removing bits of bark till she found a place she was satisfied with. A section of the tree that was just below her head height. Mari chipped away at the bark, revealing the smooth trunk; then she placed an 'X' on it before finally cutting it with her dagger. She was twirling her dagger around, an attempt to get a nice circular hole in the trunk for the sap to drip from.

It was now nearing an hour since Mari started her trek. An hour in and still only three lousy materials to her name. Mari was still working on perfecting the hole for the sap to drop from; now that she was about half an inch deep she started working on the angle of the hole, ensuring that if it was to drip, it'd drop down a slop rather than just bubble out and clog the hole. Mari was attempting to be more meticulous with this tree. Not that it'd do her any good if the tree didn't have any sap in it.
