[SP-F1] Kharn's magical mountainous adventure

Recommended Posts

It was a bright new day. The birds were singing. The sun was shining. There were fluffy white clouds floating around in the sky. And Kharn was bored. True, he had only been awake for perhaps fifteen minutes, but a berserker's attention span and patience is rarely long, doubly so for "I team killed my entire cult for not fighting in a Siberian blizzard" Kharn. So it would be of absolutely no surprise to anyone who actually knew even a mite about the Khornate that a small, rural town with naught but an oddly name inn would not hold his attention for very long. "I'm off an adventure in the name of Khorne and none of you can stop me" the man yelled back into the village, ignoring the fact that the NPCs wouldn't stop him even if they could somehow get around Kayaba's strict harassment codes. And so he was off like a shot, seeking hardship and bloodshed with determination that would put Homura's to shame.

Kharn, despite being an immense slab of meat, was actually quite fast. He mad good time down the dirt road that led away from the town until he reached a split in the path right before a large forest. Then Kharn realized he had a slight issue. He had no idea where he was going. "Hm..." he muttered "what would Khorne do in a situation like this?". He quickly tried to imagine what his patron deity would deem the correct course of action, tilting his head to the sky and closing his eyes. In his minds eye, he could see all of Aincrad's lower floor engulfed in flames, with the gargantuan form of the deity of bloodshed filling up much of the background. "YOU FOOL" it bellowed, "I WOULD JUST MURDER EVERYTHING. AND GO RIGHT. IT SAYS SO IN THE NAME". "Of course !" exclaimed Kharn to no one in particular, "The sign post held the answer all along! Thanks lord Khorne! Thanks sign post.". Without waiting for a reply from the belligerent figment of his imagination, he bolted down the rightwards path, ignoring the sign pointing to the left saying "boss room this way".

Kharn's joyous jaunt down the dirt path turned into more of a skip as he began all the violence and bloodshed that awaited him ahead. He would kill mobs, some mid bosses, the boss, maybe even some players... the last though stopped him for a second. Speaking of players, where were they? Besides the cowards in the main city, he had seen none since escaping his wooden prison. How very odd. Wait! What if they had gone on to fight the boss without him! He fumed. To think, they would initiate a boss raid without the champion of Khorne present. The nerve of some people, trying to keep him out of the fight! Oh well, the road couldn't be too much longer which meant very soon he would find the dungeon and with it, the players. He would be having words with whatever fool came up with this idea, and they would rue the day they shunned a berserker of Khorne!

But he was getting distracted. He should be thinking of the glorious adventure at hand, not the fools who left him to rot in the endless despair of a wooden inn. It didn't even have a television! How barbaric. As he continued walking down the path, he noticed that the birds had long ago fallen silent. He tensed, years of battle experience kicking into effect as he dodge a thrust from behind. he turned around, axe in hand and fully ready to face this cowardly foe before finally getting a good look at it. And when he did, he froze. "What" he shakily intoned. For standing in front of him, hovering at chest height and being far larger than it had any right being, was a wasp. A MOB wasp. "T-this is what Kayaba faces to face me!? An INSECT!? Has he no respect for the warriors code? How does he expect me to make this into a worthy battle? So I better do this fast, just incase the players reach the boss. N-not because wasps are horrible abominations with their six legs and wings and ohKhornetheirteeth BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!" The nervous berserker half roared, half shrieked as he charged the befuddled wasp, who would have remarked if it could that he was fooling no one.

Unsurprisingly, the berserker faced with his childhood fear was neither lenient nor merciful. Avoiding the stinger of the wasp like it was the blade of hell itself (though to him it probably was), he swung his axe with strength that only terror can grant. The fragile mob was bisected at the waist and quickly shattered. Kharn received no loot for his murder of a random insect, but decided he didn't want any loot tainted by one of those...things anyways. He shuddered, and trudged forwards hastily as he saw the light through the trees gradually brightening, until at long last he finally excited that forest that housed such terrors. He glanced back furtively. He really hoped there was another way back, because if he was wrong about where he was going (though he doubted it, since his figment had told him so), there was no way in the warp he was going in there again.

Kharn glanced ahead, craning his neck to see all that was in store for him. It was a large mountain, with its top obscured by clouds. The interesting bit was that near the top, Kharn could vaguely make out some ruins sticking out of the mountain side. That was probably the boss room. "YES!" he screamed, "TO GLORY!". With these exclamations echoing through the mild air, Kharn charged he mountain, ignoring all sense of caution in his attempt to reach his first major battle. He dug his heels in deep as he bounded across a small brook and slid down a slope, at last reaching the bottom of the rocky spire. "You call this a challenge? I surmounted worse as a babe!". He turned to a nearby sheepherder NPC. "Race you to the top!" and with that was off like a rocket, leaving a befuddled sheepherder in his wake.

As he blazed up the mountain side, he took a swift glance back down. It seemed the silly chap with the fluffy animals had ignored his challenge. Kharn huffed between breaths. How rude. But it would not dissuade him. He would conquer this mountain, and the dungeon, and the boss, all in the name of Khorne! But first, he had to actually reach it. His pace increased as he saw the sun had long passed mid day and was slowly approaching the horizon once more. If he didn't hurry, it would be dark, and if it got dark, he would get lost, and that would be no good at all. Thus, he increased his speed, finally passing the final hurdles and pulling himself up just outside the entrance to the ruins. Kharn rubbed his hands with glee. At long last, a battle was at hand!

As he looked around, he had to admit that the amount of detail in the ruins was as impressive as the fields. He could see cracks in the stone, great glowing patterns, dim but not extinguished, hinting at a power not lost but greatly faded, and he could see the great shadows cast by the torches. As he stood still for a while to take this in, he heard a startled squawk and turned to see a small armored lizard thing exciting the entrance, and looking at him with obvious surprise. It shook its head as I to clear its thoughts and turned to him, pointing a jagged spear at his heart. The text above its had read >KOBOLD GAURD< causing Kharn to smile. This one seemed to be a stronger enemy.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Kharn roared into the night. "AT LAST, A CHALLENGE! SOMEONE THAT CAN TRADE BLOWS WITH ME WITHOUT FALLING IMMEDIATELY! COME, LET OUR DANCE CONTINUE! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!". The kobold seemed less leased than the joyous Kharn, and almost seemed concerned over the intruded halving its health bar in a single blow. But it mattered not. It was a mob, and it would carry out its scripted duty, whether it cost its life was of no consequence.

The mighty head of Gorechild swung forward, intent on taking the kobold's head. However, at the last second it ducked down, and then lunged forward attempting to impale Kharn in the split second he was unable to respond. Unfortunately, the dice gods were not with him, so he tripped over a pebble and hit his head. As Kharn reeled from the lack of resistance his axe encountered, the kobold scurried back, resuming ready position once more. "A worthy stratagem, my opponent" Kharn praised, "but try to actually hit me this time!"

With a mighty roar, Gorechild at last found its prey, and the kobold was knocked skywards, the system cheerfully announcing a critical hit before the kobold shattered like so many shards of glass. Kharn let out a triumphant bellow, psyched that at long last he had found an opponent capable of combating him. He couldn't wait any longer! So with the subtlety of and exploding building, he charged into the ruins, screaming praises to the blood god and challenges to his foes at every turn leaving a stream of confused and then aggroed Kobolds streaming after him.

Kharn, being Kharn, completely failed to notice the stream of kobolds until it had stopped mattering. Meaning, he simply charged forwards and activated every trap, but accidentally dodged most, letting the Kobolds behind him take the brunt of the assault. It all came to a head when he sprinted under an opening, causing a boulder to shoot overhead. It was obviously meant for him, but at his speed he simply ducked under it. The awestruck kobolds had but a second to gape at their incoming demise and shriek before being silenced. Kharn quickly pivoted and looked around, desperately searching for enemies. It was odd, he thought, he would have thought the place would be filled with them, but he couldn't find anyone. He even swore he had heard something, but in the end in turned out to be nothing. Oh well, he thought, those giant menacing doors looked promising. And there was even two Kobolds guarding It! How delightful.

If Kharn had to guess, this was the chamber before the boss room. But Kharn didnt have to guess, he was to excited for such trifles. In front of him stood two opponents, each strong enough to wound him. His bloodthirsty grin grew wider. If One could not take him, surely two would be an even match? The Kobold Gaurds Lowered their spears, bracing them selves against the door. Kharn didnt mind. He preffered to initiate anyways. So with a mighty roar, he charged forth, intent on ending their lives.

Kharn charged forth, letting his mighty axe trail along the ground behind him as hetried to decide who to strike first. The answer was decided for him when one of the guards aggroed first and took a swipe at him. It missed by a mile and Kharn responded almost immediately, critting the unfortunate lizard dog man thing in the face and causing its immediate demise. A screen popped up, telling him that he had acquired Kobold Gaurd leggings. The other gaurds wasnt about to let this chance slip away from it though, and took a shot at Kharn while he was still swining down from his execution. It hit, and Kharn saw another ninth of his health bar evaporate. This would worry most players, and cause them to act more cautiously. However, unlike most players werent crazy Khornate cultists, so this really didn't appy. If anything, it encouraged the berserker, knowing that things had stopped being a cakewalk. He counter swung, and managed to take away about 66% of its health in return.

Kharn swung his axe at the Kobold, but the creature was wary now and jumped up, managing to land on the blade. From their, it stabbed frowards with its spear, further wounding Kharn. He pulled the axe back, and it retreated, putting its spear once more into ready position. Kharn had to admit, the little creature was clever. This fight was the best he had had in years, and his blood was thrumming through his veins now. Win or lose, he wouldnt regret a thing. This fight, this rush, was what he lived for.

The guard darted forwards once more, landing a blow on Kharn's armored torso. Kharn's face, rather than being miffed, stretched into a satisfied smile. To late, the kobold realised the vulnerable position it had put itself in. It tried to jump back, but it was to late. Kharn grinned once more, and in a much calmer voice, stated "Blood for the blood god" and the axe came down. The cunning guard was reduced to pixels, but Kharn made sure to memorise its face as it shattered. It had been a worthy fight.

Kharn then turned his attention to the gianmt doors. They had no handles, and stretched to the ceiling some meters above Kharn's head. Nonetheless, the were surprisingly easy to open, though they creaked a bit and made a loud echo as Kharn slammed them against the wall. Inside the room, sat a single mob, seemingly waiting for him. Kharn's grin increased even farther, stretching the limit of what should be possible. As he entered, it stood, and a name appeard above its health bar. Kobold Guard Captain. It quickly stood and roared. It was not a roar any earthly beast could have mad, no, it was a roar that could only have been created in a death game such as the one they now lived in. As it grabbed its sword and charged Kharn, he grinned. This ought to be fun.

As Kharn was, for once, not the one initiating and instead the one standing his ground, he actually had a bit of an advantageous position in this fight. He pulled his axe back and as the moster swund its massive blade at him, Kharn immatated the Kobold that had recently gained his respect and ducked down, avoiding the blow entirely. He then closed in past its gaurd and rose up, dealing a massive slash accross the beast's chest, causing it to reel backwards. It roared in anger, and prepped itself for round two.

The mob was now enraged, not only having missed its blow but it had been damaged in return. It swung wildly, hoping to catch its oponent off guard. It had no such luck however, as Kharn was a seasoned veteran of combat and dodged the blow with contemptuous ease, and went right for the jugular. His axe cut through its throat like a hot knife through butter, the system cheerily anouncing that a critical hit had been dealt. Once more the beast staggered back, unable to deal with the massive blows striking one after another, having now halved its health bar. It glared at Kharn, as if possessing some for of intelligence strong enough to decide on hating this intruder who had come into its home, slaughtered its men, and was now crushing it as if it were nothing. Not that Kharn would care even if it did. After all, Khorn cared not from where the blood flows.

Kharn took the initiative this time, swinging at the beast with all his might. However, the beast was ready for this, the AI in charge of it having learned and adapted already. As the axe came down, the beast threw out a hand, and caught it by the shaft. Kharn had just enough time to widen his eyes before the beast swung its blade forth, at long last scoring a hit. Kharn was thrown across the room with the force of the blow, and was somewhat disoreinted by the impact. As he cleared his head, he immediately lunged for Gorechild, eager to rearm himself as the beast charged down the room, eager to finish its downed opponent.
