[SP:F1] The Grand Master Tailor's Wish <<Earning a Living Quest>> (ABANDONED!)

Recommended Posts

Anna’s lids drooped heavily, but she would force her eyes back open to stare at the jewel-like stars. “Don’t go to sleep,†she said to herself over and over again. “We just need to rest up a little… not sleep. Anything but that,†she assured herself. She yawned deeply and stretched out in the hay. Zaz rubbed her eyes with the backs of her hands trying to stave off her exhaustion. Tonight she was too mentally and physically tired to fight it, and eventually Anna drifted off into a deep slumber.

Azazel’s dreams were always the same.

She opened her eyes and blinked, “Not again,†she said, only it wasn’t her voice. It was that of a little girl. Little Anna looked up at the dark sky overhead, the clouds blot out the stars in the sky, and the only light that shone above her was that of a sliver moon that grinned down at her like the sinister smile of a Cheshire cat. There were dark woods surrounding her and fog that crept from it growing ever thicker as she walked alone. There were no sounds, not even creepy ones like insects or animals, only the soft sound of her breathing and her heart beating in her chest.  She looked down and saw that her tiny feet were bare and covered in mud.

“So this is where we begin tonight?†Anna frowned knowing that things were about to go horribly wrong.

Her tiny feet padded in the darkness as she continued to move as quickly as she could. The ground was thick with bramble and debris that hurt her feet as she walked over it. The pain was unbearable, but she had to move. He was coming and he would be there soon. The sky went pitch black and she could see nothing, not even her own hands she held in front of her face.

“Too late,†Little Anna relented, “He’s here.â€

The little girl slumped down in despair.

Anna was surrounded by darkness on all sides. The air was so thick and stale that the pressure of it felt like it could crush her at any moment. A deep roar blasted from the darkness causing the ground below Anna’s feet to tremble, and the sky cleared so that the moon and stars and the forest were visible once more.  A terrible shadow hung over the moon and stared down at her with burning red eyes. Tiny Anna began to run; she pumped her tiny legs as fast as she could. The road she ran on continued to get narrower and it lead to a thicket that grew between the trees.

“Make it this time!†she told herself as she  raced toward the little space.

But that was the thing.

She never, never, ever made it to the thicket.

The shadow streaked down from the sky and came barreling down upon her like a speeding bullet. The little girl never looked behind, but she knew he was there growing ever closer. “No…†the small girl said as tears began to fall from her eyes blurring her vision as she ran. Her heart was pounding so hard that she could feel it drumming in her ears like a freight train. Suddenly, Anna was swept from her feet and she was bowled over by the massive force that struck her from behind. The tiny girl was tossed like a rag doll and her body went sailing through the air light as a feather. Her body hit the ground with a dramatic thud and all the world went black.

Azazel groaned in her sleep. She wriggled back and forth in the hay panting as she struggled. Her fingers gripped at the hay as she whimpered and fought so hard to wake herself up from her horrible nightmare.  She shot up from her slumber, her eyes opened wide as she breathed deeply. “I made it…†she said breathlessly. She fell back into the hay, her eyes closed once more and she slipped back into unconsciousness.

“No, you didn’t,†his voice said as he laughed.

Things went black and stayed that way until Anna’s eyes fluttered open slowly. She blinked trying to bring the world back into focus.  She was in pain. Her small body hurt everywhere. Anna tried her best to move, but she found she could not. Her legs were flung in different directions and bent up in a very unnatural way. There was something hot and sticky on her face. She reached her hand to her forehead touching the slick substance. She knew what it was before she even looked, but she brought her hand down so she could see anyway. It was blood, her blood and she was laying in a pool of it.

She couldn't take it, she blacked out from fright and from the amount of blood she was losing.

Anna was awoken from the blackness by laughter. His heavy boot came crashing down up on her back jolting her wide awake.

“STOP!†she screamed as he continued to stomp on her. Her rib cage creaked and she could feel it breaking apart with every crushing blow.

“Don’t… “she said weakly as blood sputtered from her lips. But he didn’t stop, he kept on crushing her.

Anna’s lungs began to fill with fluid and she was drowning again. She gasped for air but nothing came in. Blood slipped from her mouth and everything was starting to go out of focus again. She was fading away, feeling weaker and weaker. But as the weakness grew, the pain subsided. Anna closed her eyes and saw nothing but white. But the white was soon replaced by red, blood red.

And then there was nothing else.

Azazel sat up screaming. She rocked back and forth panting, tears streaming down her face. “Damn it…damn it... †she sobbed, “Heavens be damned…†she cursed as she wiped her face. The soft light shone through the slats of the barn. It was morning. It’d been awhile since the dream progressed that far. She was usually able to wake herself before he really started hurting her, but she wasn’t so lucky last night. Zaz finally settled down and dried her face. “It’s over, it’s over…†she told herself.

"It won't happen again. Not really." Zaz assured herself.

Azazel stopped herself from crying anymore. Normally she didn’t cry, not anymore, but it’d been awhile since the dream was that vivid for her. It was probably due to the lack of alcohol. But it was morning, and she’d gotten enough rest, if that was what it could be called. “Time to get back to work,†she told herself and began to crawl from the loft.

The woman stood in the doorway of the barn making sure the coast was clear. No one was awake, not even the NPC’s. She slipped from the barn and closed the door behind her gently. She looked up at the sky; it was still pink and red and the sun was very low on the horizon. “Just barely sunrise,†She said and smiled softly.

Zaz walked back to where the Watacco lived. Today she’d wipe out the entire herd of them, gather what she needed and finish this damn quest. That was her goal anyway.  If it took a third day to do, she was going to totally cancel this quest and look for another tailor NPC to learn from. This was all too much has it was. She came around the bend and found the familiar sight of cute little Watacco peaceful bouncing along the hillside without a care in the world.

“They are pretty cute,†she said to herself, “Too bad I have to slaughter them all.†She laughed and pulled her rapier from her sheath.

Zaz pointed her rapier at the happy little creatures and began to play “eenie, meenie, mine, moâ€.  Eventually her blade poited to the one closest to her and she smiled. “I guess you’re first this morning,†she said. “I’m sorry but I need cotton and you have it, so you’re going to be good and die easy for me okay?†She said. She checked her health meter which ticked up to full. Anna smiled.

“Ready to go!†She said as she readied herself for the attack.

Anna charged the little Watacco, but the blade went sailing past the little beast. It hopped aside as it tried to swipe at her, but it also missed. She was a bit faster than she was yesterday. This was probably because she actually got a near full night’s “restâ€. Even though she was having that dream again, she was glad to be at full strength. She pushed her dream out of her mind and focused at combat at hand.

Again Zaz went on the offensive and attacked, but for whatever reason she and the Watacco once again failed to connect. Each bounced away from the other’s strikes with ease. Neither one could land a clean blow upon the other.

â€œListen, I don’t want to have to kill you anymore than you want to die, but I need you fluff, so just hold still so I can collect it darn you!†

Yes. Zaz was talking to the Watacco, again. It was weird having conversations with creatures, but it was a way to distract her from the task at hand.

It seemed Mr. Fluffles (the name that Zaz just decided to name the Watacco) listened to her plea, and he took a hit from her rapier. It wasn’t a clean strike, but it was good enough, if she could whittle it down while Mr. Fluffles continued to miss striking her, then things would be grand!

“Why thank you,†she thanked the creature. “If we could do that like five of six times like that, that’d be excellent,†she joked.

Quoteception!

Azazel was beginning to think that Mr. Fluffles was suicidal. That could be the only reason that he was fighting so passively. Yesterday Zaz had one hell of a time laying out a Watacco, but not Mr. Fluffles. The woman landed a rather nasty blow upon the creature, and the only thing it managed to do was leave a bitty scratch upon her face.

“This all you’ve got?†She question the creature,†I mean I know I said don’t fight, but this is really kind of sad.†She wanted things to be easy, but she at least wanted to do a little work for the win.

Anna was growing weary of this game. This was just too much trouble to finish a quest. Still she could do nothing mid fight. She had to finish the Watacco off before she could do anything else. She slashed her rapier at the creature striking it. It did not fight back and for this the woman was glad.

The woman was done, like done, done. This Watacco was going to die and she was going to skive this quest. Obviously this was just not worth her trouble. As her anger grew, so did her ability, she moved quickly and sunk the point of her sword into the chest of the poor little Watacco. It let ot a pathetic noise and couldn’t even attack her back. She pulled her sword as she saw its health meter crrep closer to nothing.

â€Only once more…†she told it.

Predictable.

She did well, and then she didn’t. Anna was tired of her skill not going off as she needed to. There had to be some sort of glitch to the system. Neither she nor the creature did very well and they both sailed right past each other. “Just drop dead you stupid little bastard!†She cursed.
