[SP-F9] The Iron Guardian (Quest) Complete

Recommended Posts

It had been a long time since Rebekah step on this sizzling hot floor, the last time was for the boss raid, battling that phoenix, but even then, she had bad memories about this floor. The other two times, she was on a private party with Zel and Kieth, two of the strongest players on Aincrad but she had not seen either in a very long time. She did not think that she would be back here so soon, after all, she did enjoy her life in the snowy 4th floor. However, it was just super humid on this floor, especially the fact that the volcanoes did not make it all that enticing for most people to visit. Nonetheless, she was here today, trying out something that she had heard from information brokers, who may have a lead on something, but she decided to try it out anyways.

However, there was one thing that had puzzled her on this quest, which was it was not a player information broker, but rather a NPC broker who lived outside the city limits. There was something strange about the feel of it, but she was not going to ask any questions. As she left Vulcan Village, she knew that she was looking for another village away from the center of the floor, and it was far enough away that it would take her most of the day to trek towards. As she left, she could not help but notice how quiet these floors were. It seems that the majority of the players seemed to like the lower floors, for their climate, as the weather here can be unbearable for some, but Rebekah was not frazzled by the humidity, or at least she was not feeling the effects of it yet.

After what had been a long walk, Rebekah had finally arrived at another small village on the 9th floor. As she took a look around, there were not a lot of NPCs around, but she only needed to find the old broker. As she took a look around, she knew it was him, as a quest notification appeared out of nowhere. She clicked yes, as she listen to the story, and the reasoning about what she was going to do.

She had to retrieve a powerful item that was a 2 days walk from here, as it is a powerful item dropped for battle. Rebekah knew that she was not going to waste anymore time, after hearing the story, since a minimum of 2 days of travel each way, would make it about 4 days minimum. That was under the assumption that she would be well-rested after traveling the long distances to fight the boss. Not to mention that this floor is famous for its humidity, and she knew that this was going to take her a week. It was not ideal, but it was better than rushing it, as the last thing she wanted was to be critically injured in battle because she was not well-rested enough.

As she began her long walk to the location, she could not but think how big this floating castle really is. If it were to take her a 2 day journey between the two places on the 9th floor, then she wondered, how wide would some of the other places be. After walking for what had been half a day, she had arrived at another small village with an inn, and a few stores. This was the place where she could rest up for the night, instead of spending the night outside in the humid heat. She really needed a shower, after walking around the heat.

She knew that she would arrive at her destination tomorrow, and decided to sleep now, and wake up at night, and travel during the night to take advantage of the slightly lower temperatures, and she could focus better under cooler weather. She still had another long journey, and while she was following a commonly used trail, she was practically avoiding people as much as she could. The last thing she needed was to be seen alone in the dark, as that would be dangerous especially if there were multiple people and not just one.

Rebekah found that the night time was a lot more enjoyable for her, as morning arrived, after walking all night. She had arrived in a much larger village than the last one, but still super small. These pale in comparison to the starting city on floor 1, but she figured that it was going to take sometime before more people start moving away from the first few floors to these floors. As she arrived, she made sure to double check her location, and she knew she was still an hour or two away, but this will be her resting spot for the day.

It was a lot easier to move in the night, and she could also move a lot faster. She decided that she was going to fight the monster at night, because it would be a lot easier for her to do what she needed to do. Furthermore, she needed rest after spending the last two days walking, and did not want to fight a monster when she could be fatigued, resulting in more problems as she would be a lot more sloppy in battle.

After resting up, Rebekah decided to make her way towards the location of the bosses where she would find the items that she had been craving for. Of course, she was a bit over confident as the last time she had faced a boss, her party took no damage, and swiftly took down the boss quickly, before it could land an attack. However, this time it would be different as she would be alone, and that nobody was going to help her if she was going to run into some trouble. Knowing all that, she continued to press on, as the night sky made the battle field feel a lot more at ease. It was not pitch black, as that would be near impossible to see or fight. She had finally arrived at the location of the boss, but first she had to face an Iron Knight guarding the area.

Rebekah recalled the information given to her from the broker:

<<Iron Knight>>

HP - 35

Damage - 4, Bleed on 9 or 10 for 2 turns dealing 1 damage.

Thorns - Deals 1 Damage To Enemy on a 6-8 enemy battle dice.

That should not be too hard for her, but the main point was to avoid taking as much damage as possible, in order to move on.

Rebekah had finally arrived at the entrance, and after staring at the monster for sometime, she knew that it would be time to begin. She had to be careful about the armour of the iron knight as she had to find away to cut through its defense, without taking much damage. That was the trouble of fighting such a tough monster. As she was looking for any tiny weakness that she could possible exploit. At the time, she did not know, as nobody has fought a monster such as it, but she knew that it would be best to proceed with caution, at least for now.

After the first attack, Rebekah had felt a lot more confident in her abilities. For her, she struggled with believing in herself at times, since she would often miss an attack in the heat of battle, or do something that was stupid. That was her biggest problem that she ever had, and she can recall each specific time that it had happened. She knew that even the best players in Aincrad do not land every attack, but she knew that she had to hard on herself, as she wanted to improve to being one of the top players. In a sense she was already there, but she knew that she still had a long way to go as well.

In the past, Rebekah was going to do anything she was going to do to avoid being hit, while attacking, but recently she had discovered that it was better if she allowed herself to be hit by an attack to land an attack on the enemy as she would do more damage than take. Unfortunately, she did not realize that the iron knight had a bleed effect, which was going to make things interesting, as she was going to take more damage from the bleed side effect than the actual battle itself. She had enough damage mitigation on her shield to allow her to mitigate a lot of the effects. However, since she was going to be facing another boss in the future, she did not want to burn herself out fighting the first weaker mob by taking too much unnecessary damage.

That last attack was a stalemate, as Rebekah was able to read the pattern of the iron knight to begin to dodge its attack. However, since Rebekah was acting too cautiously, she missed her attack as well, so that was a draw, except she was dealing with the bleed effect. She was able to roughly estimate that it was not going to impact her health by a lot, losing only a tiny portion per turn, and she knew that these debuffs do not last long, or at least she had hoped. She had already made 2 successful hits, and the boss had already lost about half of its hp, while Rebekah had only lost a handful so far.

Because she was able to read the pattern, she was easily able to dodge the attack once again, and she picked up on a slight weakness that the knight was making. At the moment it was going to attack, it was open to a counter attack, and that was what she did with her rapier, strike the knight after it had already made its move, and it had worked, as she watch its health bar drop to below a quarter remaining.

Rebekah had hoped that this would be the final attack that she was going to have between her and the iron knight. As the iron knight guarded the entrance to the opening, and was an obstacle to her final destination. She knew that she was easily stronger than it, and did not want to waste a lot of time. If she spent a lot of time now, then she would be fighting the final boss during the daytime, but she rather do it during the night. It was just her own personal preference, as she felt a lot more comfortable in cooler weather, than hot weather. Even though it was still humid outside, at least it was bearable at least for this battle.

She knew that it was going to take one more hit, and she was able to land it, accurately. As the Iron Knight exploded into pixels, she had received a notification, showing her loot for beating the monster. It had been a long time, she she had won bonus materials, which would come in handy.

Now that the entrance was clear, Rebekah could continue forward towards her destination, but first she knew she needed a mini-break to catch her breath between this little monster, and the final boss that she was going to face today. She wanted to make sure she was well rested and in optimal condition to face the final boss, since it has higher stats than herself, and the last time, she had faced someone this strong, it was part of the floor raids, so she has not taken on someone this strong by herself just yet. She took a break, and then continued her way, as she doubled check the boss statistics that she knew, just to make sure.

Thorns - Deals 2 Damage To Enemy on a 6-8 enemy battle dice.

As she looked around, she had found another material lying on the ground, and since she was short on them, she was also collecting them for future uses.

After the brief rest, it was now time to start fighting the boss. Rebekah knew that it was a going to be a tough battle, but she has the experience in these situations, especially against a strong boss such as the Iron Guardian. Whatever the reward was for this battle, it had to be worth it, because even she was a little bit worried about her prospects against this boss. However, she had to challenge herself to become a lot stronger, and there was no better time other than right now.

However, the boss had instantly struck her before she could even respond, as she took a lot of damage from a single attack. It was not how she wanted to start the battle, and this got her a bit worried.

However, Rebekah was not detoured by what had just happened. She knew that she had to be ready to face one of the toughest battles that she has ever faced, and she knew there was a reason why nobody usually fight these battles since they were difficult even for someone such as her. She knew that she still had enough health points and a stock of emergency potions only to be used in emergencies, but she was willing to burn them if it meant that she was to receive this item. She knew deep down the reward must be very big one, or else she would not be here today, risking her life for a solo mission.

Rebekah knew that there has to be a way for her to dodge these attacks, since they were ruining her ability to survive in this battle. There were only a few options, a tactical retreat, and comeback another time with more help, or to finish this battle, but she was not at the point of no return, or at least not yet. At least she could try to escape after figuring out the bosses' attack moves before continuing on something as risky as this. There was nothing wrong admitting that she was not strong enough to solo it, as she have not seen anyone yet with the reward for this quest, but she knew that it was going to a big reward.

As she continued, she knew that she was losing a lot of health. The Iron Guardian had hit her 3 times in a row, dealing 2 critical hits, and as a result her health points have taken a huge beating. She knew that she was going to lose unless she could find a way to dodge its attacks, somehow, as they were landing a lot. As she thought about it more, she knew she was not a tank, but rather a damage per second build, so she needed to survive, and drag out this battle, which would favour her. She knew that she deals more damage on a base attack, than the guardian but that is if she can land her attack to begin with. Rebekah had always relied on speed for evasion and accuracy, and as long as she could do both, she would be fine. This boss was not allowing her to evade, at least not yet.

As she hit the guardian, Rebekah had completely forgotten about the thorns effect, which is a huge problem moving forward in the rest of this battle. Not only would she have to land a clean strike, but also make sure she does not take any damage in return. At least, she managed to dodge the attack once, and would now be looking to replicate that minor success, which would prove to be critical in this battle. As the battle dragged on, she would become more fatigued, so she knew that she would have to end it quick and early before it could land more critical attacks on her. As she looked around, maybe there was a reason why she was the first person to attempt to fight this boss, let alone try to solo it.

Rebekah continued her battle against this guardian. It was going to tough to break through the heavy iron armour, but that also stops the guardian from moving quickly. As a result, she is able to anticipate the actions of the boss, and she knew that she needs to be perfect in evading every attack that it is going to throw at her. Although Rebekah deals more damage than the boss, she was really afraid of the bleed debuff that she receives everytime the boss lands an attack.

That was what Rebekah was best at, which was being able to adapt during the fight, and she was now having some newfound success. However, she was going to be using a healing pot next turn in case anything were to happen to her. She had a lot with her in her inventory, and she might as well use them.

While the battle has slightly turned into her favour at the moment, Rebekah knew that she still had to be careful, a few strikes by the Iron Guardian, and she would be in big trouble. Thus she knew that she had to be careful with each move that she was going to make. As she burned the attack pattern of the boss into her head, she wondered if it will ever change attack patterns. That said, Rebekah knew that it should be time for her to burn one of her, but that would cost her big, as the monster struck her when she was standing still.

Rebekah was a lot smarter than that, taking a needless break on the battle field just to drink a potion. She should have done something, as she was going to lose more health than gain with that potion, and it was quite possibly, one of the stupidest things that she has ever done. There was no going back now, she had already done it, and there was no point to fret over the past, as it does not mean anything anymore. She looked up at the boss standing in front of her, and knew that she had to find the strength to defeat it.

Why was she thinking, she knew what she had to do at this moment, evade and strike. It was something that was burned in her mind since the beginning, and she knew that she had a low margin of error.
