Finishing off the monster with a frenzy of strikes, Reu happily checked the drop results. It was after all, a powerful monster and a tough fight, so he was happy to see what bounty it provided him. Thankful at seeing a large amount of col, Reu noted how it seemed to be getting easier to survive in Aincrad, now that he himself was stronger. Though, you have to wonder, just how long that could last before the difficulty would suddenly, and unexpectedly, rise again.

Reu felt to a knee after finishing off the ice monster. He hadn't take any damage during the battle, but he still knew he was playing with death. Quietly, Reu moved towards an outcropping in the ice-wall next to him. He would stop a bit, and rest, Reu decided. After a day like today, that was really all you could do. Hopefully, he would be able to get his strength back, and continue on to farm more ice elementals. Reu still had to keep in mind the floor boss too, it would be showing up at some point, and that wouldn't be an easy battle at all. Sighing, Reu wished he had more information on the boss, but for now, he would just have to wait. Wait...and rest, Reu thought...as his eyes slowly began to close.

Suddenly, Reu opened his eyes. He had been drifting off to sleep, that was no good. That was dangerous. Reu knew he couldn't sleep, not here, in the freezing cold wilderness. Reu decided he would put his body to use to help keep himself awake. Deciding to take a good look around for materials, he did just that. Reu scanned his small ice-cropping closely...

Sadly, Reu didn't find anything. Sighing, he picked up his gear and continued on his way. He wanted to check out the surrounding area now that he was almost near the end of the Valley he had been in.

Finding his way out of the valley, Reu noted how the next bit of terrain was flat. Thankful that travel would be easier, Reu slowly made his way across the terrain. It was slicker then the other part had been, this was almost all ice underneath the surface-level of snow. For this reason, Reu advanced cautiously not wanting to fall. As he took his next step, the ground suddenly gave way! (CD > 10 to not fall)

Luckily, Reu had been not so heavy on his front foot and was able to keep himself from falling in. Falling to his knee's, Reu could see, the area under the ice, was a giant lake!

Looking down into the water, Reu could see the glimmer of a treasure chest. "Oh great, he thought to himself." "Now I have to go all the way down there to get it!" Reu wasn't sure how to approach this, he knew he wouldn't drown in SAO unless he stayed under the water too long. Still, the opportunity to check such a well hidden treasure chest for loot was beyond his ability to pass up. Reu quietly slipped into the water, and started diving into the dark waters.

Suddenly, something attacked Reu out of nowhere. It was an Ice Shark! The Ice Shark didn't just hit Reu, it landed a critical strike too. Reeling, Reu tried desperately to swipe at it, but his movements were slow and sluggish under water, the ice shark was easily able to avoid his attempt at a counter-attack.

Struggling to find his way in the dark, Reu flailed about uselessly. He knew he would need to find some other way of attacking, but he was having a hard enough time trying to just see the monster. Suddenly he felt the waters move and knew the Ice Shark was attacking, it swam through the currents with little trouble, and then finally, came from the direction Reu predicted. Because he felt it coming, Reu was able to re-direct it's attack and avoid damage.

Allowing himself to float, Reu could again feel the approach of the ice shark. As it swam past, Reu felt the beasts attempt to lash out at him and this time kicked himself to the right, and swung his sword with all his might to his left. His attempt paid off, as his blade dug across the creatures side, wounding it greatly.

Reu swung his sword at the ice shark swimming through the waters, but missed in vain. As he swung, the shark ripped through the waters with relative ease, coming up on Reu's open-side, and gnawing him like piece of meat. In fact, Reu was piece of digital meat to this creature. Here, Reu was in his environment, and he was making Reu pay for intruding on his home.

Suddenly, the waters went still. Reu was slightly terrified at this, he knew the ice shark was swimming out there, somewhere. Finally, Reu decided to just attack, and he did so to little effect. Frustrated, all he could do was wait while the ice shark made its attack. Luckily, Reu felt the shark bounce off his armor, unable to get through. Reu knew he was lucky. He was certainly struggling to fight down here underwater.

Reu turned his attention back to the shark, but again, Reu was unable to find the beast while attacking. This time however, he was able to feel it's approach again. By timing the approach with several flips and turns, Reu was able to get himself out of the way of the attack...but just barely.

Continuing to swim as hard as he could, Reu tried to find the killer beast hiding in the waters, but unfortunately, Reu couldn't find anything. He kicked off the top of the ice above him and turned, diving back down, deeper. Doing so, he actually avoided the attack of the ice shark, though Reu didn't know it. All around him Reu wondered where the Ice Shark was, struggling to find anything in this pitch-black darkness.

Flipping, turning, and swimming through the water, Reu did everything he could to stay alive. He still couldn't see the shark to attack it, but hopefully, by moving enough, he would be able to avoid it entirely. It seemed to be working because at the very least, he wasn't being hit.

After floundering around in the water, Reu finally was able to find the target with his blade. He hit the beast along it's belly, by using an overhead strike. Still, Reu felt much more vulnerable the moment he hit it. He knew that hitting it meant he gave his position away, and sure enough the beast blindsided Reu with a critical hit to its rear. The creature was just too fast, Reu thought to himself.

Going back to his acrobatic swimming, Reu did the best he could to stay mobile. As he swung at the creature, or he thought it might have been the creature, he missed; though he wasn't sure if he swung at nothing, or at the creature who was also being extremely elusive. Suddenly though, he did feel the creature launch an attack at him; managing to divert the attack, Reu escaped unharmed.

Reu was once again able to find the monster with his sword. His blade ripping into its body, he was surprised when it turned straight into him, delivering a critical strike counter-attack of its own. Frustrated and weary, Reu didn't know what else to do at this point.

Pushing himself forward, Reu was once again able to find his target in the darkness. Finding it, he ripped his blade across it, felling it. Checking the loot drop notification, Reu was happy to see that he did at-least get some reward for this monster. Now, time to go get that chest!, Reu thought to himself.

Turning his attention back to the chest, Reu swam down and checked it for traps. Every chest in Aincrad was a potential trap, so this was a must-do no matter where you found the chest. Even the chests on the first floor could wipe out half your health if you weren't careful. Swimming down, Reu found the trap and then nimbly disabled it.

Opening the chest, inside was 200 Col, and an extra 2 Materials. Not a bad find! This didn't seem like much, but treasure hunting in SAO was notoriously difficult, even for a treasure-hunters build like Reu's. Still, Reu had more refinements to make to his build, but knew that eventually, he'd be where he wanted. Finally, after spending way too much time underwater, Reu swam back for the surface, thankful to be getting out of this freezing cold darkness.

Stepping out of the water, Reu wasn't sure what to do now. His health was low, too low to continue farming Ice Elementals, and he was fairly far out from town. If he turned back, he would have a long trek back and, despite his finds, it would seem like it was all for nothing. Feeling himself at a standstill, Reu quietly decided to take a moment to consider his options.

Continuing across the field, Reu didn't feel there was much choice in the matter. He had already come extremely far, and turning back now would just mean he'd have to cover all this ground again. So slowly, Reu continued his trek across the frozen ice wasteland. If you were a bird you'd see very little other than a black speck moving across this sea of white. The lake was hidden underneath a sheet of ice, and so the lake, the land surrounding it, and the eventual mountains both ahead and behind, all merged into one white, snowy mass. All Reu could do was keep going, here in this sea of white.
