[OP-F1] Coaxed out of the Comfort Zone

It was a new day, and Jia had no time to waste with adventuring and grinding for levels, but something held him back from doing so. That something was the need for a hunting partner, and preferably not a group because of how suffocating it was to be around so many people. Based on how all the other players were, or at least the ones currently leaving the safety of the Starting City for the grasslands, they were already prepared and partying. Only Jia was sitting by the end of the safe zone with his lone self and user, 《Tokki》, present. This was going to be a long day, and Jia intuitively knew that as he selected a better bench to sit on.

Vaan was walking around floor one. As usual now a days. He decided he would head back to the shop. But to do so he had to walk out of town. He decided to take the back roads so he would not really have to deal with the other people. He equipped his blade and began to move when he seen a boy sitting on the bench. He did not seem very high leveled judging at his equipment. Vaan had tried once to make a guild for players just coming out of hiding and to try to support them to move on in the game to help the low leveled players. But, he did not have enough people to create it. Now here was a lower leveled player sitting on a bench. He looked at the boy and asked a simple question. Are you not going to go train and bring your level up? I could help you a bit to keep you safer.... Vaan looked at the boy while he awaited an answer.

Jia's eyes looked upwards, the startling red being particularly sharp in the light of the late morning sun. Lowering them in the same action as a nod that was arguably a mere tilt, his index finger was swiped downwards, the series of buttons that led to different functions appearing before himself. Typing in the required credentials, a party invite was sent to the player before himself, of whom was nicknamed "Vaan." With that, he closed the status window, hand once again resting upon the smooth stone texture of the bench and waited wordlessly for the acceptance or refusal of the invite. Throughout the course of these events, not once did Jia's stolid expression lift, an air of coldness seeming to swirl around himself.

 

"Join..if you wish. Trust me..if you want," came from Jia, the words nearly inaudible, being the barest of whispers.

Vaan watched as the boy opened up his HUD. He tapped a series of buttons and a screen appeared before him. <<Tokki>> would like to know if you would join his party? There was a blue circle and a red X. Vaan clicked the blue circle and the boy began to whisper. It was barely inaudible. Perhaps he was shy. Or enjoyed being creepy. I choose to join you. I say let me remember your name... Vaan looked up at the health bars and there was Tokki. Tokki? Or do you enjoy having a Nick name?

"Call me Jia. Not Tokki. I don't even remember what it means or how I got it anyways."

 

This time the words rang audibly and seemed to be of a boy who was somewhat lost in the world. It was no matter though, as that was quite normal with Jia and how he was. Getting up from the bench lazily, he began walking towards the exit slowly, his eyes going to the corner of his HUD and viewing the details of his current hunting partner. Based on what he could see, "Vaan", as the person was called, was around level nine. What Jia could see of his gear didn't seem to reflect that, but then again one should never judge a book by only its cover. On his own mind was the possibility of betrayal, which was why Jia made sure that he didn't give out too much, nor show any possible weakness. It was a futile effort though, considering he was about half the level of the other.

Vaan listened as the boy explained that his name was Jia. Not Tokki. Vaan began to walk out of the safe zone. The boy seemed a little uneasy.... He was possibly scared or cautious that Vaan would kill Jia. Vaan would never hunt another player intentionally. There would have to be a reason. Pay or revenge. Vaan looked around when he seen a bigger boar than the others. Hey look, there! Vaan pointed at it and tried to get Kia to attack the boar.

Silently, Jia drew a dagger from its sheathe, the metal singing slightly as he did so. Red eyes targeting the stated boar, the tight grip on the blade was altered to a reverse grip as Jia settled upon an attack to begin the fight. Lowering himself slightly to make sure his balance and preparation were complete, he dashed forwards suddenly, his gold-yellow coat and platinum white hair billowing slightly as he closed in on the target. Running by, a single slash was made, a red line forming in the place of where the tip of the knife traced as cut. It wasn't as deep as intended though, being only somewhat through the hide of the boar.

Vaan watched as Jia quickly pulled out a knife and attacked the boar. They seemed to dance as they fought. Vaan chuckled before holding out his blade and then began to Sprint right at the boaro. His blade flew as he activated a skill.

Vaan's blade ripped through the boar taking a huge chunk of its life. The boar backed up some and began to charge. It targeted Vaan as he did more damage and missed. As the boar went bbc.co past Vaan could see the red mark from where he had hit.

Turning to strike at the boar, the blade fell short of the target for some reason. Jia had misjudged the distance between himself and the boar, and struck too early. The blade was still in hand of course, but now he had wasted an opportunity to strike at the boar. It was slightly embarrassing to see the mistake, and Jia moved back a bit from the boar. His cheeks were slightly flushed from anger out of his own mistake.

Vaan watched as Jia began his attack and stabbed just a bit top early. Vaan began his attack and ran at the boar. He could finish the boar off, or put it entirely in the red zone. Vaan attacked the boar and his blade swung right at the boar.

Vaan swung but the boar began to run away leaving Vaan to fall in the grass. The boar circled around and smashed into Vaan. Vaan fell back and realized he was barely scarred.

Rushing in with his dagger to stab at the boar that was so focused upon Vaan, Jia let loose with the dagger in his hand. He failed with how he aimed it, the blade glancing off its side and harmlessly flying to the side, not a single bit of damage dealt. He was so close to doing something, yet so far away all the same. Backing up a bit, all he could do was hope that Vaan could manage to strike at the boar and overlook Jia's severe lack of capability.

Vaan watched as Jia made his move to attack. Jia attacked but seemed to have a bit of trajectory off of hitting the target and the boys knife glanced off of the side of the boar. Vaan could finish this. If only he could get a good hit. Vaan sprinted forward and swung the iron blade.

Vaan swung the blade hitting the boar hard. The boar fell to the side but Vaan was unprepared as the boar came running back and the boar rammed Into Vaan's side. Vaan fell to the ground. Vaan got up and brushed off his leg.

Jia rushed at the idle boar, taking his blade and readying it for a slash at the unprotected side. Whipping his arm and cutting in the same action, the blade slashed horizontally. By the way it sailed through the air, Jia could tell that the weapon would definitely hit the boar, and was rest assured when the telltale red line formed as a result of his attack. It could have been better, but at the least it wasn't a miss like the last few times.

Zandra have spent her time lately on floor two. She now decided to do as some other players have done to her. She visited floor 1 to see if therr was any newcomers needing a heloing hand. When she reached the top of a small hill she could spot two young boys fighting a boar a few hundreds of meters away. They seemed to be dooing quite well, seemed they didnt need any help. She still stayed to see the outcome of the battle. The smooth wind fluttering her hair felt nice in the warm sun. "All that I miss now is some popcorn." she said to herself and concentrated on the battle.

Vaan watched as Jia finally hit the target. Vaan watched the boar's life bar sail right into the red zone. Vaan grabbed his blade in a reverse grip and began to run at the boar. He swung the blade right back out and struck right at the boar, lashing out.

Vaan hit the boar hard and instantly killed it. He sheathed his blade and a screen popped right up in front of him.

Vaan sighed and looked around. He seen a girl watching Jia and him. But this girl kind of looked familiar. He ran up and looked at her. She was familiar. It was Zandra. Zandra?

(I'm assuming everyone that participated in the fight with the boar get a chance at loot? The guide doesn't really say anything otherwise...)

 

A notification of his level-up to four came up before Jia, along with the obtaining of a single piece of material. Seems like his luck wasn't on his side this time around, and a simple dismissal of the screen brought him back to reality or at least the reality of the game. Based on what he could see, Vaan had noticed someone that was familiar and sidetracked from the hunting. Jia didn't really express any discontent feelings. Instead, he just decided to live with the pause, sheathing the knife he had in hand. Both of his red eyes were directly gazing at Vaan and Zandra, observing them.

When the boar was dead Zandra started to walk down the hill. She didnt wanted to get into the fight because then they wouldnt have got any rewards for their hard work. ''Hi Vaan.''she said to Vaan. ''and you mister, nice to meet you. Im Zandra Zvift, usually called only Zandra. Who might you...'' before she could finish her sentence she got tackled in the back. Out of the woods arrived a wolf. Zandra turned around.''Dont put away your weapons, this gonna be a hard fight.'' she rushed against the boar, wanted to kill the wolf before it could hurt the two boys. She got a scratch on her back, but when she was counter-attacking she missed by several feets.

Vaan watched as a wolf attacked Zandra but she retaliated. But she missed. The wolf clawed her back a bit. Zandra was stronger than him and Jia. Vaan moved forward striking quickly.

Vaan struck at the wolf barely missing the target. The wolf growled and bit Vaan's arm creating red marks. It did not really any damage to him. He could destroy stronger monsters than this solo.

Jia unsheathed his blade and awaited a good time to interject and strike at the boar. Considering that Zandra was now out of it, and Vaan had just missed his chance to strike, Jia sprinted forwards with his dagger in hand. The weapon probably looked insignificant considering how tiny it really was as a knife, but it could still deal quite a bit of damage to things. The fluctuating luck that came with Jia's hits had come back, his blade striking the wolf in a rather painful and damaging way, the blade tracing an orange colored arc with its sharp tip. Leaping back, he got out of range of the wolf so that there wouldn't be any easy retaliation.

Zandra got a wound in her back. But she couldnt let that bother her. This wolf was angry and hungry. She looked at the two boys. It seemed they wasnt hurt. Zandra wanted to make sure the wolf wouldnt hurt the two boys. So she rushed forward tackle the wolf and placed herself on top of it. "Now guys! Hit it while its immobilised. I dont know for how long Im gonna be able to hold it down.
