[PP-F4] <Essence of Steel> with Tristan

Recommended Posts

Lowenthal eagerly grasped at the chance to start another quest. The one he had selected was called 'The Essence of Steel', he had already done this quest before, but he didn't get the potion drop like he wanted to. Lowenthal looked at his coat. It was nice, decent quality that he made himself. But the salve the monster dropped at the end it's breath at the end of this quest, could make it a step better. Lowenthal could use that, as he's been having so much trouble at the shop these last few days. He'd really hope things would, pick up or that his machines would work better. Lowenthal sighed, his breath materializing in the cold air as fog, and watched it quickly dissipate into the air. He looked around, he wanted to meet someone new. He could of course, check his friends list for people to help him. But most of his friends were either under leveled, or didn't have decent gear. Lowenthal had no room to talk, but he needed to get that potion. So Lowenthal put it for everyone to see, hoping someone would come over and help him.

Tristan accepted the open request to do the Essence of Steel, a quest he never completed. He had meant to do this with Ryujin, but they disappeared without a trace, so since had yet to do it. Well, he could help someone else out now, since Lowenthal, someone he heard sometimes of, usually little about, asked for some help. Tristan decided this was his way of being a general good member to the community.

He walked up to Lowenthal and said "Hello, I'm Tristan. I'll help tank this fight while we do this, so you don't have to worry about getting hurt." He smiled as he said, with his ebony armor and imposing spear and shield on his back. He didn't mind the cold much due to his Survival skill, so went on as though the weather was just a typical day. "Now, let's not dawdle, shall we get to it?"

Lowenthal nodded to the man. "Yeah, let's not waste anymore time then we should." He said, following the man. "So, who're you? I'm Lowenthal, Master of Shadows." Lowenthal said, introducing himself in the normal manner. Lowenthal hoped that this guy wouldn't be boring, and stoic, like a few people he had met in the past. Or at least, not one of those 'I must protect the weak, and my life is irrelevant' types.

Tristan chuckled at the name. He started walking to the cave where the boss was located as he walked and talked. "That's a rather odd, suitable for a vigilante. Let's hope death doesn't cast its shadow on you either, though you should be fine with me."

They walked to the entrance of a cave where a rather eerie skull sat. Tristan pointed at it and said "So, bets that hitting that ominous thing causes a death trap. Want to try hitting it?"

Lowenthal laughed quietly. "Boy, do I!" He exclaimed sarcastically as he pulled out his kunai, and struck the skull with the round end. The skull made a dull thud noise, and then rang. The sound reverberating all around the walls of the cave. The sound throbbed against Lowenthal's sternum, and made his ears ring. For a skull, it was quite the instrument. After a few seconds, the noise subverted and stopped. A low ruble could then be heard from the cave. Lowenthal took this chance, to step back, and behind the supposed 'tank'. "Alright, here it comes!" Lowenthal yelled, preparing for battle.

Tristan grinned at the sight of the giant Snow Beast, rearing its head towards them and screaming out. Tristan however didn't waver, instead roaring out himself back right at them with something that sounded like a giant monster did, using <<Howl>>. The monster focused purely on himself and ignored Lowenthal.

Lowenthal reconized the use of the skill howl. He'd seen Calrex use it time and time again. Lowenthal took advatage of the beast's new fixated rage, and ran behind it. The beast was large enough to hit, but Lowenthal didn't expect it to be so soft as well. His kunai had peirced the skin of the Beast, and had dug deep. Almost to Lowenthal's grip. He had more trouble removing his blade, then sticking it in. "Jeez, this'll be a piece of cake!" Lowenthal said, as he watched the beast fail to hit it's target.

Tristan was confident he would keep his hate level up to ensure he was the one always hit. Though tha last attack the beast missed so badly, it looked like it was trying to swat a fly in the air, so it wouldn't of even mattered if he was the target. Regardless, he continued on and thrust forward with his spear towards the beast, hitting it and digging deep, then withdrawing the spear. With him a tank and a glass cannon with him who even with his lower level had damage near equaling his, this fight shouldn't be too bad at all.

Lowenthal went to slash at the Snow beast, but ended up loosing his footing. Lowenthal slipped, and nearly feel backwards. "Damn ice!" He cursed, as he almost feel again. He moved his feet as to get a better position, and not fall. As bad as the desert was, ice was worse. Lowenthal liked the warmer climate, the sands, the water. But ice was alien to him.

8-3 = 5 missed Tristan

20353 BD 5

5 +1 = 6, 6 Damage

Disguise used, +1 to own roll and -1 to next MD roll, 12 own turns to cool down

Tristan activated <<Disguise>> after he fully blocked the full force of the Snow Beast, receiving no damage. He then turned into the Snow Beast himself, looking the exact same! In this form, Tristan swiped the snow beast with a clawed paw and damaged them, then turned back into normal form and resumed with the battle.

Lowenthal rubbed his eyes. Did he just see, what he thought he saw. None the less, he still had to attack. Lowenthal slashed again, this time, not falling flat on back side. Lowenthal was statisfied with how well he was doing. The monster was tought, and he would probably die without Tristan here to help. He would have to thnk him for the aggro later.

Tristan was obviously a bit worn out from his earlier use of his skill, because Tristan came in for the lunge but missed the beast. He cursed under his breath for his mistake, correcting his stance so that he shouldn't miss next time. Tristan thought on how he might even be able to do the monster on his own, but having Lowenthal there certainly made his life a lot easier.

Lowenthal went to slice at the enemy, but came up short. He was getting frustrated, getting misses and then hitting again. Lowenthal tossed his kunai into his other hand. And tried warming his hands up. The cold air was starting to get to him. He'd have to make warmer clothes later.

Tristan obviously totally failed with preparing his next attack to hit true, because he missed again and didn't hit the monster. Tristan sighed as he missed, hoping his next attack would hit the monster. He wasn't sure if it was from the cold that he did so or just plain stupidity. Tristan re-positioned his feet so he could strike again.

Lowenthal stabbed the monster again, his kunai plunging deep into the Snow Beast. This was getting easier. The boss kept trying to catch butterflies, and he and Tristan kept hitting the monster for damage. Hopefully this would be over soon, and it looked like it would be over soon. Lowenthal needed the skill points for later, as he had a duel this weekend and needed them.

Tristan blocked the attack by the beast with ease with his Phoenix shield, dealing no damage whatsoever. At this rate, he not be even scratched in this fight. Sadly, he didn't managed to scratch the foe though either, since his spear targeted one of their legs but missed, which frustrated him. Was it that hard to hit a foe? Seems so.

Lowenthal attacked again, his dagger slicing into the beast again. The back looked as if it was starting to wear bright red rubber bands. Lowenthal chuckled at the thought. Lowenthal saw that his new friend was missing quote often. "These fights go like this normally?" Lowenthal asked, betwix the fighting.

Tristan sighed at Lowenthals remark about his hitting record at current. "Only if the gods decide that now is a real good time to make my life worse." he said as he blocked another blow with his shield and the enemy did no damage whatsoever, which honestly felt sort of cheap at this rate since it had near half health, yet they weren't even scratched yet.

And, as though luck was laughing at him, he went for another strike and missed again. It reminded him of a comical fight between him and the Wasp quest boss where the both of them constantly missed each other, thus leading to a much longer fight than it could of been.

Lowenthal attacked again, not stopping his already growing chain of attacks. His kunai cut deep into the heel of the beast, sending it to the ground. "Didn't mean you mate. Meant this boss. You've tanked what. Two shots? Three maybe." he said, looking at the monster, then back to his weapon. "And this thing misses half the damn time." he said, shaking his head.

Tristan chuckled as he didn't even bother blocking the monster which sporadically totally failed to hit him. "Yeah, they haven't managed to hit me at all properly. I guess that is how I have built myself though, since this thing is at near literal half health and due to a mix of its failing to hit and my tanking, have yet to receive an inkling of damage."

Tristan also got in a blow with his spear to the monsters, damaging. Which for sure was much better than missing by any extent. It also meant he could keep his hate up without the necessity of roar once again. He readied himself for the next attack to block.
