[SP - F7] A Hunting We Will Go (Mat Hunting) (COMPLETE)

Recommended Posts

Jomei stepped off of the warp pad in the city of Nimbus. He looked around at the fortress like city, that seemed to be encased within a mountain. He had heard of large crystals that keep the city illuminated during the night when it was dark.. but being it was day, the crystals could not be seen. Jomei's trip to the Seventh Floor was to do something he had not found himself doing in awhile, looking for materials. Jomei had recently gotten interested in starting his craft up again in hopes to sell his music to others in Aincrad. However, that was not his first priority for finding materials. He was more interested in getting himself better gear. First, he was interested in getting a sword crafter by Meokka, a new rapier that could help him out with a paralyzing skill, the Glacium Ignis it was called. He was not sure how many materials she would want to trade for the weapon, so Jomei decided it would be best just to get as many as he could. Upon exiting the gates of the city, Jomei lifted his arm to his shoulder, allowing his owl companion, Adere, to get on his forearm. He brought his arm in front of him so he could look at the owl and smiled, "Stay close, I need you in case anything tries to attack me while I'm distracted." With that, the owl hopped off of his arm and began flapping her wings, flying off into the sky above Jomei, circling around his position.

((OOC: When a 10 MD is rolled, an Encounter begins)

Jomei thought, if he was a blacksmith and forging a sword, what kind of materials would he need? He figured some sort of metal ore... Maybe Iron? Jomei began to look around the caverns surrounding Nimbus. He slowly scaled the walls with his eyes, looking for some sort of glimmer. His eyes eventually met with a large stone about the size of his head that seemed to stick out from the rest of its surrounding rocks. Jomei quickly ran up to the stone and picked it up to observe it... only to find out it was just a plain old big rock. He sighed as he let the rock drop to the ground. Continuing his search, he came upon another stone. This one glimmered in the surrounding light. Jomei walked up to it, it was not very large.. maybe a little smaller than the last one, but it seemed to be more than just a rock this time. He grabbed at it with both hands and picked it up, much heavier than the last one as well. As Jomei observed it, he figured it had to be a metal ore of some kind. To his dismay, as Jomei turned the rock to observe the opposite side, the weight of the ore caused it to slip from his hands and slam into the ground, cracking down the middle and then shattering into polygons. Jomei let out a heavy sigh.. he was so close. Oh well, back to the search.

He continued his search through the mountain range, admiring the beauty that was the Seventh Floor. In another small cave, Jomei saw something shining. He walked towards it and saw an array of iron ore veins. He smirked as he ran into the cave, not realizing that he had accidentally ran into a spider's web. Wiping his face frantically of the webs, he crouched down beside the vein and harvested it.

Something from the shadows of the dark cavern behind him began to creep down from the ceiling. Jomei did not notice, for he was too focused on getting even more materials for the other iron veins. Jomei's head perked a bit as he heard a light, slow tapping noise.. followed by a light hissing noise. He quickly turned his head to see what had snuck up on him, pulling his rapier from its sheath. When Jomei saw just what it was that was about to attack him, his eyes widened as he gripped his teeth and began shuddering. His opponent was a large spider, looking much like tarantula. One of Jomei's worst fears in the real world were spiders, and he now knew that those fears transferred over into here. He quickly ran past the spider into the larger opening, where he quickly made a sharp whistle, calling Adere to his aid. The two prepared to fight this giant arachnid.

Jomei was hoping for a simple gathering of materials.. not facing his worst fear. In any other game? Sure, not too bad.. just an enemy. In Sword Art..? It was as real as could get, right in your face, and will actually kill you. Jomei took a shaky deep breath as he glared at his enemy. He spun his sword in his hand to test out how his hands were working, being terrified with shaky hands. He took a quick look up to Adere, who was hovering just in front of him. The two of them took off running towards the spider, who Jomei could now see was mostly black with striped of brown in it and it stood about up to his chest. He shook his head, trying to fight off the fear. As Jomei got in close, he closed his eyes and flinched, thrusting his rapier forward. He felt resistance as his sword met its mark, piercing the spider in its body. As he dislodged his sword, the spider brought up one of its large slender legs, revealing a sharp point on the bottom. Jomei quickly dove back as his enemy brought its leg down, piercing into the stony ground.

As Jomei got back to his feet, he saw the spider had freed its leg from the stone, for it began slowly sidestepping around Jomei. {Jeez... this thing is so creepy..} It slammed all of its legs into the ground before quickly making its way towards Jomei. {A-and he doesn't look too happy either} Jomei gasped a bit as he took a step back, preparing to strike first on his enemy. Jomei continued to step back, avoiding the enemy's stomp attacks. The damage would probably be enough for Jomei to handle... but he may freeze up if this spider gets the best of him. Jomei decided it was his turn to go on the offensive. Stepping to the side with a spin, landing right in front of the spider's face, he brought his sword forward again, trying to keep it at bay by stabbing it in the eye. He missed his target, however, and stabbed it in the body again. At the same time, Jomei heard a loud hissing noise, followed by a hard bite on his shoulder. He felt his heart drop as he slowly looked down to see the spider had sunk its fangs into Jomei. The spider unlatched itself, and stepped backwards, pulling the sword out of its body.

As the spider slowly stepped backwards, almost mockingly, Jomei grit his teeth. He tried to lean forward, getting his body to move.. "Gr...Why..Cant..I..Move..?" his eyes slowly moved to his shoulder where he had been bit, only to notice a purple liquid dripping from the open wounds.. {A paralyzing venom.. Damn..} His eyes shot back up to the spider, who was now making another quick approach to Jomei.  Jomei tried to move every muscle in his body in an attempt to jump out of the way, but it was no use. The venom was way too strong. The spider brought its large, lanky leg up again, bringing it down into Jomei's chest. At least Jomei was moving now... but of course not of his own will. The spider slammed Jomei into the ground, the point of its foot jabbing into his chest. Jomei could only take the hit and look up at the spider, glaring.

As the spider pushed down into Jomei's chest, he continued to try and move his arms to get the spider off of him. Suddenly, he felt a twitch in his finger. That one twitch became a clenching of one finger at a time, and a smirk stretched across Jomei's face. As the spider brought its leg up again, this time trying to catch Jomei right in his face, Jomei threw his arms up, catching the spider's leg just in time. He held the beast in place, the sharp dagger of a foot slowly getting closer and closer to his face. The spider still had the upper advantage, having Jomei pinned to the ground, so he could not take this situation lightly.

Jomei could not keep this position for long, or else this spider was going to get the best of him. Mustering up as much courage as he could, Jomei activated his <Athletics> skill. Using the extra strength boost, Jomei quickly lifted the spider's leg off of him enough so he could recover. Instead of doing the smart thing and escaping from its clutches, Jomei quickly grabbed for his sword and thrusted it upwards into the bottom of the spider's body. With a loud screech, the spider began to lose balance and fell forward towards Jomei. As it fell, Jomei saw its large, sharp fangs were out. As the spider fell into Jomei's body, its fangs sunk into his chest, and he let out a loud grunt of pain. He was not only feeling the sharp pains from the fangs and venom seeping into his body.. but also all of the spider's weight on top of him.

Jomei laid there, not being able to move his body, grunting as he tried his hardest to move his arms once again. He prayed it was over. His head was not positioned correctly to see the spider's health bar.. but judging by the fact it did not dissipate into blue data.. it must have still been alive. Thats when Jomei felt the beast shifting around. It slowly rose up, its piercing red eyes glaring at the man stuck in his position on the ground. Too add to Jomei's suffering, the spider brought its head down once again, biting into Jomei's shoulder once again. Jomei screamed in agony as more venom began to flow through his body. This was truly his worst nightmare coming true.

The beast lifted itself off of Jomei once again. Jomei could not feel anything but the pain from the venom, and the large fangs slowly retracting from his shoulder. It was truly a terrifying feeling and Jomei was stuck in it with no escape. He began to shudder as he looked up at his opponent, standing over him, blood red eyes and purple venom dripping from its fangs onto Jomei's chest.   Jomei closed his eyes as he saw the spider lift its leg, once again looking to bring its dagger leg into Jomei's face. He felt the weight of the spider shift as it brought its leg up, and it staggered to the side. Jomei opened his eyes to see the spider struggling to keep its balance. It was on its last legs and was feeling weary. Jomei knew all he had to do was finish it once he could feel hid body again. Thats when he noticed he had clenched his fist.

Jomei took a couple of deep breaths, checking to see that all of his muscles were gaining their mobility back. He knew he could not afford to get bit by the spider again and lay in this position, letting the spider get another free attack on him. Thats when Jomei decided the best way to finish off this beast was to pretend he was still paralyzed, maybe it would keep the spider from bringing up its defenses. The spider slowly made its way to Jomei and was soon standing over his body. Jomei saw as more venom dripped from its fangs as they retracted, prepping for another bite attack. "Oh, I don't think so!" Jomei quickly threw his leg up, activating his <Martial Arts> skill. As his boot began to glow a gold color, similar to when Jomei activated his sword skill, he kicked the spider in the back of the thorax, sending the best tumbling over his body. Upon hitting the floor again, the spider dissipated into blue fragments. Jomei sat up, patting his chest and taking deep breaths.. "Never... again.." Jomei's owl companion rejoined Jomei on his shoulder to see if he was okay. Jomei noticed the small amount of loot he had gained from defeating the beast, it was a material. "Huh.. Spider silk... I don't think Meokka could use this... Maybe when I get my new armor crafted, this could help him out."

Jomei got up from the ground, dusting off the dirst from being on the ground. He then stretched his arms and got himself ready to look for more materials. Before heading off, he slowly walked back in to the cave, knowing it was filled with iron veins. Sadly, Jomei mistook many for two large ones.. so he had already cleared this area of what he needed. He continued to search the surrounding areas for anything he could possibly take. Slowly scanning his surrounding for such a thing. He saw a light glimmer off in the distance, and figured it had to be another ore vein. As he took a step closer, he heard a familiar light hissing sound as something stirred near the vein. Jomei's eyes widened as he made a slight whining noise, and he quickly turned in the other direction.

After a short walk, Jomei let out a sigh. This was a lot tougher than he had though. Suddenly, he spotted some already harvested iron sitting in the corner of a dimly lit part of the caverns. Jomei grinned as he slowly crept over to the materials. He looked around at the ceiling first, to make sure no more spiders were going to creep up on him. He quickly placed the two materials into his pocket and smiled. When he turned around however, he was met with a much larger entity than his last encounter. This much more humanoid monster was staring down at him, breathing heavily through his nose. Jomei recognized the beast as an Orc, who was holding what seemed like a hand axe to the Orc, but was the size of Jomei's torso. It lowered its head to look at Jomei. "The hell you doin?" the Orc spoke in a deep voice, its breath reeking. Before Jomei even had a chance to reply to it, despite knowing his answer would not matter to the NPC monster, it brought its axe up and let out yell.

"Dammit not again, I just want to get some materials and get out of here.." Jomei whined, gently nudging his shoulder as to give Adere a head startat flying. He swung his sword in his hand and bounced back and forth on the balls of his feet. "Heh, at least its not a spider this time" he smirked at the towering beast who was pounding his chest with his empty fist. Jomei knew of Orcs from his time playing D&D, the were a proud warrior race who would not let themselves lose so easily. That being said, this was another fight Jomei could not underestimate. The Orc warrior charged at Jomei with its axe at the ready, yelling out in a booming voice as its large feet stomped into the ground. Jomei jumped to the side as the large axe came crashing past his body. As the axe hit the stone, the Orc threw its elbow back at Jomei, who quickly ducked under the attack. As Jomei recovered from dodging, he brought his sword up to slash at the Orc. Once he noticed what Jomei was trying to do, it quickly stepped back to avoid taking damage.

For a big guy, this Orc was fast. Jomei knew to beat him, he was going to need to be even faster. Jomei quickly stepped back as the Orc swung its axe up. As the axe came down towards Jomei, he clenched his left fist.. "Oh yeah.." he quickly mumbled to himself, forgetting that he no longer carried a shield. He threw his sword up in front of him, holding the dull side of the blade in his left hand, as the large axe collided into his rapier. Sparks flew as the rusted metal connected with Jomei's sword. The sound of metal scraping on metal filled the cavern as Jomei struggled to hold his ground against the large beast.

Jomei felt the Orc loosen up a bit as he began to gain the upper hand, pushing gradually up on his attacker. Once Jomei had better footing, he quickly stepped backwards, letting the axe crash into the ground again. As Jomei's back foot hit the ground, he pushed forward, thrusting his sword into the chest of the Orcish beast. It grunted in slight pain as it grabbed Jomei's sword. Growling at Jomei, it easily pulled the blade from its chest cavity before bringing its own axe to its side and swiping it at Jomei, knocking him backwards a bit. Jomei's feet slid across the ground before he was able to stop himself, clenching at the large gash on his chest, "..ugh... Bastard pack's a punch.."

Jomei stood up straight as he looked across at his enemy, who was smiling as if he had Jomei on the ropes. Yeah, Jomei had a chunk of his HP missing from the last fight with the spider.. but compared to that guy this Orc was nothing. Jomei spun his sword in his hand as he looked up to the sky. He locked eyes with his owl companion and nodded, she must have found a weak spot in his defenses.. and judging by the fact she was hovering above and behind him.. he was going to need to get to his back. Jomei flipped backwards using his <Acrobatics> skill, doing a backwards cartwheel. He lowered his body to the ground into a runners position and took a deep breath. He quickly activated his <Sprint> skill and took off running towards the beast. As he made his approach, he noticed the lowered ceiling just behind the Orc.. it would make for a perfect vantage point to get a critical strike in. Jomei bobbed and weaved to the left and the right in an attempt to confuse his opponent. The Orc grabbed his axe with both hands and held it above his head. He brought it down with as much force as possible, kicking up dirt as it smashed into the ground. Jomei used the back of the axe to jump up onto the Orc's head, and kicked off from there to meet the wall behind him. His sword began to glow a gold light as he kicked off the wall towards the Orc again, his sword pointing forward. "Linear!" Jomei seemed to pierce right through the nape of the Orc's neck at lightning speeds. He landed in front of the beast as it reacted to the attack, falling onto one of its knees.

The Orc's breathing went from tired, to angry as it stood up, scowling at Jomei. It once again, pounded at his chest while screaming, like an ape of some sorts. The sound echoed through the caverns, making it much louder than it would usually be. Jomei threw his hands up to his ears, trying to protect himself from the damaging sound waves of the Orc. It wasnt working much, and it was piercing through his ears. What the hell was this? Suddenly it hit him. Well, the Orc did. While Jomei was busy being distracted by the Orc's war cry, it took the opportunity to ram its shoulder into Jomei's chest, sending him tumbling backwards. Mid tumble, Jomei was able to use his hands to push himself back up onto his feet. Jomei wiped his lip with his fist as he clenched his rapier in his other hand. Jomei ran forward, dodging the axe swings from the Orc, slashing it across the chest with his own sword.

The Orc began to lose its balance, its health now being in the deep red. Before it had a chance to recover and attack, Jomei needed to continue his offensive and take it out. He He lunged forward at the off balance beast, drop kicking it in its chest. This caused the Orc to fall backwards onto the ground, letting out a grunt as it collided with the stony floor. Once Jomei landed on his feet again, he flipped his sword in his hands so the blade was pointing behind him. He ran forward and jumped at the Orc, plunging his sword deep into the Orc's stomach. It let out one loud grunt, and its last breath before exploding into the blue data fragments. Jomei let out a sigh of relief, "Any more mobs like that and it'll be the death of me. Oh almost forgot.." Once again, Jomei had received another mat from defeating a mob. Upon accepting the reward he read what the material was. "... huh.. O-Orc Leather..?" His eyes went wide.. did the game really suggest that he.... he shook his head. {Don't think too hard about it...}

Jomei put his hand on his head, he was beginning to feel all of the combined pain from his past two fights. The two mobs had brought him down to a little over half health, and it was not making him feel too great. He figured he should probably turn in.. but he was no where near his goal of collected materials. He plopped down on the floor behind him to take a break. He let out a quiet sigh as he looked up towards the ceiling of the cavern. He lifted his hand and opened up his Inventory, remembering that he had purchased a Tier 2 Health Potion from Zandra.. when she was still around. He pulled out the bottle and examined the red liquid. He popped off the cap and held it up, as if toasting to his friend whom he had bought it from. Thinking it would taste bad.. being a medicine and all.. Jomei hesitantly sipped from the bottle. His eyes widened to his surprise when it tasted better than expected.. tasted like strawberries. He took the bottle away from his lips and sighed as he thought about Zandra and his other friends that had gone missing. He finished up the potion and tossed the bottle behind him, the glass container shattering on impact. He stood up slowly, feeling his strength slowly coming back to him.. "Thanks Zan.." he said quietly to himself before beginning his search once again.

Jomei stretched his arms and figured it was time to get back to hunting. He was feeling much more confident now that he was regaining some of his strength from the potion. He began his search once again, making sure to be very weary of any mobs sneaking up on him this time. He carefully watched the walls and ceilings.. didnt seem like anything was around. He let out a light sigh as he looked for any sort of glimmer to point him in the right direction of materials. The caves he was entering were beginning to get a bit dark, even if there were materials here, there was not much light to be able to give off a shine. That being said, Jomei decided to turn back in the direction he came from and try a different route.

As Jomei exited the dark caves he had traveled into, things began to become brighter again so he would be able to see where he was looking. He already knew from walking through this area once before that there was nothing here. Still, he now saw the cavern from a different vantage point.. So maybe he missed something on his first pass through here. Despite looking now in the opposite direction, there seemed to be nothing that he had missed. This area must have already been cleared out by other passing players. After a quick look around, he saw a path he had not traveled before. After a moment of considering the options, he decided to travel down the unknown road. This area seemed a little harder to traverse, being it had a slight incline, filled with randomly placed rocks and boulders. On his climb up this slope, Jomei saw a slight shimmer a couple of meters above him. Jomei grabbed onto the ledge above him, attempting to pull himself up to grab the ore. Upon pulling his weight down on the rocky surface, it gave away, Jomei losing his grip on the ledge. Jomei as well as a slight bit of debris slid down the rocky incline, back to where he started from. He got up with a grunt, rubbing the back of his head.  Looking down at the rocks that had fallen with him, he noticed some of them gave off the light glow of iron. He smirked as he collected the few shards, all together counting as one material.
