Takao 0 Posted July 21, 2015 #1 Report Share Posted July 21, 2015 Nimbus Village, a city modeled to look like a massive fortress within a mountain on the seventh floor of Aincrad. That's where, for some reason or another, Takao found himself eager to hunt. He found that the cavernous fortress was a bit difficult to navigate, though with frequent glances at the map, he was able to make his way to the exit. There were some points of interest that he made a note of to check later, but for now, he was more interested in locating an area for hunting. Once he was outside of the city and away from civilization he reached up and drew his sword from the scabbard on his back. After a single swirl in his grip to test the weight and balance, as was his usual habit with the blade before he used it, he glanced over the mountain range. It was one of the more beautiful sights he'd seen, but just like the points of interest, he could examine the view at length later. Takao spoke to nobody in particular, aside from the humanoid formation of rocks that had come barreling toward him as he tried to advance up the slight cliff on the side of the mountain. It progressed upward at a slope of about thirty degrees or so, which wasn't unmanageable for him to climb, but fighting seemed like a much less valid idea. He, unfortunately, didn't have much of a choice in the matter regardless of how optimal the fight wasn't. Takao dove out of the way of the monster's way and tumbled forward into a somersault. Across from him, standing about ten meters from him, was the Golem who seemed to be having no problems traversing the mountain's unsteady surface. He grunted and smirked slightly, a sudden sense of enjoyment and some sort of pride from fighting the disadvantageous fight. The two charged each other, with Takao's speed far surpassing that of the slow golem's, until the had closed the short distance and prepared to strike each other. Takao used the loose ground to his advantage and slashed while dropping down to his knees, his forward momentum carrying him forward while his sword cut into the mountain beast's rocky exterior, leaving behind a glowing red gash in its wake. The further he pushed his legs into the ground, the more he slid, which put him in a rather precarious position as the golem charged at him. Each heavy step it took was thunderous and sent the pebbles flying, even kicking up some smaller dust and debris during its advance. Takao managed to find a stable foothold through sheer luck and pushed forward, charging back at the golem and mirroring its fierce intensity. His blade collided with the fist of the monster. It cut into the extremity, but such damage did not come without a consequence. The golem grabbed his midsection and threw him a few meters up the mountain. He landed face down and slid, then rolled against the gravel as he tried to slow his momentum and right himself. With him standing on the higher ground he was at a tactical advantage, and he had to suppress the burning desire to reference an outdated movie that held so much relevance to the moment. The golem began to ascend the mountain, trudging through the slope of loose gravel toward him. Takao slid his feet into an appropriate position and took off running toward the monster. As it swung at him, Takao ducked and slid against the gravel again, thankful for the quality of his boots and armour as he glided across the sharp stones. He came to a stop barely a meter behind the golem and pushed off the ground with his right foot. He slammed his left foot into the gravel and thrust his blade forward before the golem could complete it's slow turn toward him. The blade pierced straight through the beast and came out the other side, causing the monster to freeze in its tracks. Takao 0 Posted July 21, 2015 Author #6 Report Share Posted July 21, 2015 Not even fifteen minutes after fighting the golem and continuing on his way up the mountain, Takao encountered his second monster of the day. This one was quadrupedal, reptilian, and definitely aggressive. The eyes, which would be slitted if he could see them, were glowing red and beaming at him with hostility. The beast must've been at least seven feet in length, and even if it did only stand about a foot off the ground, its presence was definitely intimidating. Despite the slight intimidation he felt, Takao still struck first while he had the opportunity. His sword arm arched and twisted, slashing deep into the reptile's scaled hide and dealing a large chunk of damage to its health - nearly half of it gone with the single strike. The lizard proved to be equally quick in its evasion, skittering out of the way on all fours as his sword sailed down and crashed into the gravel below. The digital metal sparked against the few stones it collided with before Takao pulled his arm back. The lizard snapped at him again, its powerful jaws threatening to clamp down on his leg had he not been attentive with his evasiveness. He leapt back around a meter, his boots sliding against the slightly more level surface than he'd fought on previously. It had a harder time following him as he circled it due its the wide, quadrupedal stance. This gave Takao a clear advantage over the lizard provided that its only attack was to snap at him with its jaws. He stepped forward when the opportunity to do so without clearly being in harms way. He brought his sword up and sent it crashing down into the lizard, taking both a chunk of its hide as well as its health away with the blow. Takao ducked under the mostly unexpected tail that whipped toward him, confirming his theory that the monster could attack in more ways than one. He'd managed to dodge the first attempt, but after swinging at and missing the agile reptile, he'd opened himself up for a clear attack. Bracing for impact seemed like his only choice, so he clenched his teeth and waited for the damage to the done. The large tail slammed into him square in the chest, and as a result a large red glowing welt appeared on the front of his armour. He was still standing, however, the damage not enough to have knocked him off his feet. That seemed like the limits of the damage the lizard could deal to him, and yet it was still so minuscule. He pushed the growing cockiness aside by focusing on the battle at hand. Takao resumed circling the giant lizard, waiting for the opportunity that the beast would eventually afford him. When he saw it, Takao lunged forward with his blade pointed toward the lizard, slicing in an upward arching motion. The blade cut into the rough hide of the monster, leaving a glowing red wound in its wake. He twirled the sword in his hand and gulped, a little wary of engaging multiple targets of this strength, but eager to fight nonetheless. He was the first to attack while the monsters were still in their post-respawning daze. His attack just barely missed as the first giant lizard snapped out of its daze and evaded. It swing its thick tail at him, to which Takao ducked and rolled under. The large reptiles didn't seem to have even the slightest problem with traversing the unstable ground, judging by how he was observing them sprinting toward him rather quickly. He placed one foot behind the other and began to backpedal around the left side of the two lizards, putting one in front of the other to make attacking them a more viable option. When he'd managed to do so, Takao closed the short distance that he'd maintained between them and slashed downward with his sword. The blade cut diagonally into the lizard's tough hide, inflicting considerable damage to its health gauge. He began to take more confident steps backward, even adding a bit of hop in his step as a smile grew on his face. He'd thought that the fight would be easy if he could just keep doing what he'd managed to do once before, but that didn't seem to be the case. He lost his footing on the loose stone and fell flat on his back. The lizards seized the opportunity to lunge at him, though he was lucky enough to be able to roll out of the way. As he tried to stumble back onto his feet, he tripped again, his time rolling down the slight incline of a hill that he'd been fighting on. He caught his balance after a five meter tumble and grumbled as he moved back to his feet, emerald eyes watching the large lizards close in again. He'd managed to find a stable foothold and didn't necessarily want to leave the "safe haven" of sorts to run the risk of sliding further. The giant reptiles closed in quickly, their thick legs gliding across the uneven surface of loose rocks with the ease and grace that Takao lacked. He furrowed his brows enviously and waited for them to come within range. When they had, Takao performed a small jump from his position and over the head of the first reptile. He placed his hand onto the scaled back and plunged his blade into the hide, dealing the damage he'd desired before finishing the jump and pushing off the back with his hand. He landed and, as he'd been anticipating, slipped on the loose rocks again. The second lizard whipped its tail upward and then slammed it down across his chest as he worked on regaining his footing, eliciting a loud "Oof" from him. He nearly stumbled on the rocks again but managed to catch his balance just in time for the first lizard to close in on him. It aimed to snap its jaws around his neck, or that's what he interpreted would happen at least, should he not have thrust his sword into the bottom jaw of the reptile and through the head entirely. He struggled to pull the blade free while the monster's health dropped to zero and its partner in crime aimed another tail swipe at him. Just as it was about to hit, Takao dropped into a crouch and managed to pull the blade free. He could handle one at a time even with unstable ground, but the two of them had made him question that confidence. At least, up until the point he'd realized they couldn't do much damage to him at all. The second lizard scurried toward him, kicking aside the small black rocks that covered the side of the mountain. With its maw open wide, it aimed to bite down on his leg, but the sword stabbed through its open mouth stopped it in its tracks. The giant lizard slithered out of reach and his sword sparked against the small rocks, the loud clanging sound ringing in his ears a clear indication of his failed attempt. The lizard had similar luck in attempting to strike Takao, who narrowly evaded the incoming tail swipe with unsteady footing. He swung and missed, his sword's edge sparking against the edge of the rocks that it collided with. Takao's athletic prowess also seemed a bit too tricky for the reptile to make contact with, as he swiftly evaded the incoming tail swipe with ease. Takao stared his assailant in its glowing red eyes, his sword poised and ready to strike, his body eager to move. The lizard was watching his movements very carefully, having grown wise to his evasive tactics. They watched each other as they moved closer, both eager to finish the battle. When Takao felt himself within range to lunge, he did so, but upon landing heavily on his right foot the boot hit a particularly loose patch of sediment. The rocks below his feet collapsed and turned into something of an avalanche of gravel, dragging both Takao and the lizard with it. He shook his head and glanced around, trying to find the large lizard that he had attacked, but saw nothing but the pile of small black rocks he'd fallen on. He groaned again and rubbed the back of his neck as he pulled his blade free of the stones, the metal ringing in his ears and causing a faded echo across the empty mountainside. He heard a slight rumble but couldn't locate the source, until the stones beneath him began to shift. He tensed his leg, prepared to jump out of the way, but by the time he'd even begun to move the lizard erupted from the ground beneath him and latched on his left arm with its powerful jaws.
