When he'd ordered the article in particular, he was very specific when requesting that it was exceptionally warm. He wasn't sure exactly how the tailor had done it, but she'd done an excellent job. He wasn't usually a fan of sporting a brand, but for this occasion, the crowned lion emblem displayed over the front right breast area felt well worth it. He rolled his head across his shoulders as he trudged through the wintery wilderness, his sword held in hand, green eyes scanning the forest scenery vigilantly in search for movement. A light snowfall had started since he'd embarked on his most recent excursion out of the safe zones for some monster hunting. The snow he walked on looked undisturbed ahead, aside from a few small tracks of animals that didn't seem to interest him. It wasn't until he noticed larger tracks, ones he had quickly deduced to be canid, that he'd begun to follow them, in search of their source. Link to post Share on other sites

The origin was exactly as he had thought it to be, a four legged canine with fur as white as the snow, glowing red eyes, and exposed fangs as it snarled toward the brunet. He wasn't the stealthiest of people, so his attempt at sneaking up on the monster had failed before the idea even entered his head. With no element of surprise to benefit from, Takao decided to strike first. He watched the green health bar drop dangerously close to the half way mark with a small habitual smile; the one he was almost perpetually wearing. He twisted his wrist and spun the sword in his grasp before moving in for another strike. This time, after raising his blade and swinging it downward at the wolf in an arching motion, he missed. The blade sank into the snow and frozen soil with a clang, opening up an opportunity for the wolf to lunge at him after having recovered from its evasive maneuver. His sword crashed down into the monster, cleaving into its fur-covered side and leaving a glowing red wound decorated with a white lattice pattern in its wake. He pulled his sword back and shifted his weight onto his left foot, preparing himself by changing his stance for another attack. Before he could complete the action, the wolf had stopped its howl of pain and lunged forward, grasping his arm in its jaws and biting down hard. Instead, he used the wolf's own successful attempt at grappling and damaging him against it, and raised his arm. With it went the wolf's head, exposing its neck and upper torso. He positioned his blade and thrust it down into the wolf's chest, chipping away the last bit of health that it had been hanging onto. It released his arm during its cry of pain that disappeared suddenly when the monster exploded into glittery shapes. He rubbed the wound idly, not feeling any literal pain but unable to suppress the idea that he should've been. By accident, he had stumbled upon a small pack of four of the icy canids he'd been fighting. One of them was particularly larger than the others, which he had presumed was the alpha of the pack. They all glared at him with menacing red eyes, ready to pounce. Four monsters at once would be a new record for him. Albeit a new record he had no interest, nor desire, to pursue setting, but a new record none the less. He positioned his blade and slid himself into a proper stance, emerald eyes watching each of the four vigilantly while his expressive eyebrows knitted close together. A smile wasn't on his face, and rightfully so. Each of the wolves took their positions in circling him at about ten meters distance, the collective sound of their panting and movement making it hard on his cold ears to pinpoint exact locations when they moved behind him. Still, he wasn't defenseless. When the first of them lunged, the largest of the pack, he prepared a counter attack, swinging and missing just as the alpha wolf that lunged did. The second wolf, a smaller hunter, tried the same with the third. The second missed, but the third managed to snap its jaws around his leg. Once his movement was free and no longer inhibited by the canine, he turned toward the alpha to see it lunge at him again. He shifted his footing and slid his weight onto his right foot, then pushed with his left, effectively evading the large canid's attempt at tackling him to the ground. In the same motion, he brought his right hand up and swung it in the opposite direction that the wolf was traveling. The blade bit into the wolf's fur and cleaved away a hefty portion of its health. Takao 0 Posted July 23, 2015 Author #8 Report Share Posted July 23, 2015 Dodging all four wolves at once was proving to become quite the feat, and not one he could keep up with at all times unfortunately. Luckily the alpha was bigger and stronger, which meant it was slower. If Takao could keep up his dodging, it wouldn't matter what it could do to him if it hit - because it wouldn't get the chance. He'd resolved to get that one out first, positive that it would have an effect on the other wolves' behaviour. Taking down the alpha was usually a sign of superiority in the animal kingdom, he'd thought, which meant that maybe he could be the alpha! Boy, it would be cool to have a pack of wolves at his disposal. In an odd way, the four wolves that were all trying to tear his face off made him miss his dog in real life. Too consumed in his thoughts and nostalgia, Takao failed to evade the third of the wolves when it tackled him to the ground and bit into his shoulder. The alpha struck first, as it had always done thus far in the fight. It missed, or rather, was easily evaded. Takao used his superior agility to move himself out of the way without excessive movements, making sure to preserve his energy. The wolves didn't seem too keen on outlasting him, as they all continued to attack, which meant that it was Takao's priority to keep himself from tiring out too quickly. The second and third wolves attacked in tandem, both going for his legs. He left the ground and managed to land a few meters back with the help of a single hand spring, sliding to a stop against the loose powdery snow. The alpha had stopped circling and turned to him, prepared to lunge another attempt that would surely fail given its track record thus far, but instead found itself at the receiving end of Takao's sword for the second time. It howled in pain as Takao drew the blade out, leaving behind a large red stripe of a wound and another portion of its health depleted. His attention immediately shifted to the other wolves, which he had no doubt would be taking advantage of the opportunity that he'd afforded them by attacking. He immediately dropped into a roll and tumbled against the snow, kicking up the fluffy white powder as he sprang back up to his feet, evading each of the wolves and their attempts to damage him. Takao was feeling a lot more calm fighting the enemies despite their advantage in numbers, which in turn put an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He wasn't looking at the health gauge either, despite the fact that it hovered comfortably at the edge of the orange threshold. It had a slight limp as a result of his blade damaging its front left leg, which knocked down its intimidation a few pegs. Takao decided to take advantage of the weakened state and attack again. He raised his sword arm and brought it crashing down onto the wolf in a swift, fluid, and fast as lightning motion. It sliced deep into the wolf's side during its weakened attempt at retreat, carving away a hefty chunk of health and leaving the gauge just barely hovering above zero. The wolves all attacked in turn, and Takao struggled to dodge them all. His blade pierced through the chest of the alpha and depleted the last of the health that clung onto its gauge. When the bar had finally run out, the beast's howls of pain stopped abruptly. An eerie silence fell over the clearing until the three remaining wolves decided to attack regardless of the alpha perishing. It leaped at him with the aim to tackle him to the ground, though Takao was a bit too evasive to let that happen. He quickly shifted his weight and pushed off the snowy forest floor, his feet dragging barely an inch above the light powdery snow. As soon as his boots his solid ground an instant later, his sword arm swiped the blade upward. The sword caught the wolf as it descended from its jump and sliced deep into its midsection, taking a large chunk of health with it as the blade was removed. But after a botched swing and unfortunate misstep on a hidden layer of slick ice underneath the snow, his confidence diminished very quickly. He'd stepped hard on his right foot in an attempt to dodge, the sole of his boot not finding any traction on the slippery surface. He fell onto his back, laying supine for only a brief moment before the second wolf lunged on top of him. He managed to raise his arm and catch its jaws with his forearm, though the damage was still dealt. The first of the group to be thrown off was the one that bit onto his arm, though it didn't go very far, landing barely a few meters away. The second wolf was kicked in the face, and although no damage was dealt to the health gauge, it still whined and released his leg. The third wasn't as easy to get off, even after a firm sole of his boot connected with its head, it only snarled viciously and bit down harder. His health ticked down another point as he sustained the damage over time, and he grunted. Fear wasn't present on his face, however, only a cautious, observant glare. One of the wolves lunged at him from behind, and Takao only turned in time to put his free arm between his body and the wolf's snapping jaws. The fangs clamped down hard on his arm, eliciting a grunt of imagined pain from him. He pulled his arm back and thrust his blade into the stomach of the beast to deal a bit of damage before throwing it off. He thrust it forward into the icy canid before it could finish recovering, and his blade retreated just as quickly as he'd stabbed the wolf. He didn't have the time to stand and watch to make sure he'd dealt enough damage, as another of the remaining wolves had lunged forward and bit down on his left leg. He exhaled a growl amidst the plume of white smoke that accompanied his breath. Takao spun on his heel, using his advantageous weight and leverage to swing his other leg over and kick the wolf off his leg. A small tick of damage chipped away at his health, though he'd noted he was still within a comfortable amount. With each passing second, Takao's confident returned, until it was back at its full capacity. Four mobs was a bit much, especially when accompanied by a large "leader" figure of sorts. Three monsters was more manageable, but still an undesirable situation to find himself in. Two monsters... well, that's just as good as one. He was a firm believer that being surrounded isn't necessarily a bad thing; it usually means he's more likely to hit something. He swung his blade and hit the "third" of the two remaining out of the four that once stood against him. Takao 0 Posted July 26, 2015 Author #19 Report Share Posted July 26, 2015 The wolves made another attempt to tackle him down and tear out his throat, or at least that's what he presumed their post-tackle actions would be, but they proved to be too slow. He shifted his weight across his feet and pushed off the ground with his right foot to effectively sidestep out of the way of the "fourth" wolf. His foot slammed down on the snow and he regained his balance, poising his blade to strike the third wolf that was running at him. He did the same action as before, but this time kept his foot closer to the ground when he swung. His blade made contact at the same time as his boot connected with the ground, rooting his strike. Trudging through the snow wasn't particularly exhausting on his own, though when joined by the constant dodging and sustaining of damage and his body's natural attempt at keeping itself warm, he was quick to tire out when the time finally came. It had just started to set in, and he wagered that he only had five more minutes of this kind of activity before he finally collapsed.
