{F1-SP} Forging a Blade <<Earning a Living>>

Recommended Posts

Jevi let out a sigh of relief, she now had two boar leathers, as well as some extra spending col which was never a bad thing. She accepted the rewards and placed them into her inventory. Placing her blade back into her waistband behind her back, she brushed her hands against each other as if cleaning off any dirt. ~"Alright, now I just have to find some place to gather some ore." She placed her hands on her hips, using one to open up her map. Using her finger, she moved the map around, observing the different areas of the first floor. She wondered if there were any caves or mountains where there might be some metal. She eventually found a smaller formation a little while into the woods, and it looked like there was a pathway through it. She figured that was her best bet.

She carefully made her way through the trees, making sure not to gain any unwanted attention. The last time she was in this forest was when she met Grave.. and there were a lot of different mobs here that could cause her a problem on her own, especially the wolves and snakes. She quickly looked down at the memory of those snakes, only to see it was just her nerves getting to her. She rubbed the back of her neck as she continued her walk through the forest. Lucky for her, it was still the middle of the day, so there was still much sunlight seeping through the leaves above her so she could see.

It was not long until she stumbled upon what she was looking for. The ground she was walking on suddenly turned into a steep slope, with man made stairs made of stepping stones leading down. At the bottom of the slope was an entrance to a cavern of some sorts.  It was strange, usually caves were build into mountain sides. This one seemed to just go under ground. After a moment of thinking about it, she shrugged her shoulders. There was only one way of finding out if what she was looking for could be found in here. She hopped down the stairs, each one wobbling in place as she did so. One she made it to the bottom, she poked her head through the entrance. There were torches lighting the sides of the cave walls, so she would easily be able to see while in there. Stepping through the archway, she began her search for any materials she could use.

She slowly walked through the tunnels, it all seemed so man made. Maybe this was a mine after all, and she would find a plethora of materials to choose from at the end of the path. The tunnel seemed to curve continuously to the left while slightly declining at the same time. It must have been going further and further under the ground.. It began to make Jevi feel very cautious about this idea. After walking for maybe 5 minutes or so, the tunnel straightened out and opened up into a large room. Her eyes widened as she looked around the open cave.

Time to start searching.. She scaled the walls of the cavern, looking for any sort of place to gather some ore. She was not even sure what it would look like, or where it comes from. She figured it would just shine brighter than the regular cave walls. Her foot got caught on a rock in front of her, and she tripped. Without falling, she stumbled forward a couple of feet before regaining her balance. ~"I've got to stop doing that and watch where I'm going." she said scratching the back of her neck.

~"This is tougher than I thought.."

Jevi continued to follow the walls of the cave trying to find something to work with. ~"Shaya had the right idea becoming a chef.. Finding ingredients for food is a lot easier than this.." she said as she slouched her shoulders and sighed. When she looked forward once again, she noticed a slight glimmer off in the distance. It was dull, but it still looked different from other rocks. She quickly made her way over to the object to see if it was what she was looking for. As she picked it up, however, it crumbled in her hands.

Jevi angrily threw the remainder of the broken pieces of decrepit ore against the cavern wall while swearing under her breath. ~"F*** this.." she crossed her arms as she growled lightly, pissed off at this gathering thing. She picked her head back up when she realized that she noticed something when she threw the pieces of the old ore against the far wall. Turning her head back in that direction, she saw a similar looking material growing out of the wall, this time the shine was much more prominent. She walked over to the vein coming from the wall and tapped on it, a small box opened in front of her, claiming she successfully harvested 'Ebony Ore.' Her eyes lit up in excitement and her hope was slightly restored.

~"Okay.. one down, two to go.." She felt a little bit more confident about finding what she was looking for now that she knew what it looked like. That being said, she began to walk around the cave some more. She placed her hand on her chin, turning her head left and right looking for a similar shine, ~"Well I know what I'm looking for at least.... the problem now is just.. where?"

Jevi let out an excited gasp as she caught another glimpse of more Ebony ore. She climbed up the boulder that stood between her and her materials and up again onto the short ledge above that. Being weary with her step, making sure not to fall, she positioned herself so she would be able to harvest the ore easily. She tapped on the ore, getting the same message as before, and the material was added to her inventory again. ~"Okay.. One more."

With another material in her inventory, Jevi carefully climbed back down from her higher up position, making sure not to trip and make a fool of herself again. Once on level ground again, she began to search for the final piece of the puzzle. Then all she had to do was make it back to the blacksmith in The Town of Beginnings and she would finally be able to become a blacksmith. It was all starting to seem so much more real to her now.

Jevi searched the cavern for the last piece of ore she needed. She even started to look higher up the walls to see if she would need to climb again to reach it. She scoffed, of course being the last thing she needed it was going to be the toughest to find. She stopped walking and stood with her arms crossed. Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm her nerves so she would not get fed up with looking again.

Seemed like all of the Ebony ore had been cleared out. It must have been a highly wanted ore, and previous players probably cleared out most of it before she got here. Most likely all of the players wanting to be cool with a black sword... She could not blame them, feeling the same way after finding the first bit. ~"Ah well.. Guess ill keep lookin-" her eyes suddenly caught glimpse of a different colored shine, this one being a light purple. Around the corner from a large boulder, she stumbled upon a formation of large purple gemstones. She wondered if she would be able to harvest such a thing.. Upon tapping on the rocks, she got a similar message; You have harvested: 1 Amethyst.

~"Amethyst huh.. Maybe I can put it into my sword somehow." she smirked in excitement. She looked around and found the way she came, and began to make her way through the cavern.

After finding the entrance to the large cavern, Jevi made her way back up the winding tunnels leading to this gathering spot. The heightened pace caused by her excitement may have made the trip a lot shorter, for Jevi found herself climbing back up the steep slope after a short amount of time. It was still daylight too, which was good so it should not cause any problems with Jevi getting back to the Town of Beginnings in once piece. She checked her map to make sure she would be heading in the right direction, before lightly jogging the path she set.

Now back in the safe zone that was Floor One's main city, she needed to get back to that blacksmith's shop. She lifted her hand and opened the map again, pinpointing the waypoint she had set to remind her of where exactly the place was. She nodded as she closed the map, walking down the streets towards her destination. She must have left the city from a different path last time, for the trip back to the forgery seemed to take much longer. However, without a doubt, she made it there with no problems.

As she entered the blacksmith's shop, she was welcomed with the familiar smell of burning wood and coal.

"Ah, you're back? I'm guessing you got what you needed?"

Jevi nodded her head as she walked up to the counter, placing the materials she found in front of her. She looked it over one more time before making sure she had everything on the list. ~"Yeah. Its all right here. So, can you make a sword out of this?"

The blacksmith laughed at the girl's comment, "Of course I can! But thats not what matters here... What matters is, can you?"

A small box opened in front of Jevi, similar to the quest box she received earlier that day. It read:

Earning a Living: Becoming a Blacksmith
Go out into the field and gather these materials:
2 Boar Leather
3 Ore

New Objective!
Use your new skill to create a sword.

Skill Earned: Smithing

~"Oh, thats right.." Jevi said under her breath, almost forgetting this was a quest to become a blacksmith, rather than simply gathering the materials to craft a sword. The man then pointed to the other side of the room, where there was a large, thick table with a metal top. On it, sat a one handed hammer used by a blacksmith. ~"I... Feel like theres a lot more to this than just a table and hammer.." she turned to the blacksmith with a troubled look on her face.

The man was silent for a moment, with that same smile on his face, "Go ahead! Try it out!"

Oh yeah.. he's an NPC... Not someone to make conversation with.. a bead of sweat dropping from Jevi's jawline.

Jevi walked over to the table and opened up her menu. She selected the various materials she had gone out and collected for this mission and placed them on the table. She scratched the back of her head.. not really sure of how to do this. She picked up the hammer and looked down at the ore. With a shrug of her shoulders, she began to pound the hammer into the shiny black rock.

After a couple of good hits on the ore, the entire table began to light up in a bright light. She stepped back, wondering what was going on. The light slowly began to take the form of a short curved sword with jagged edges. As the light dimmed, on the table sat Jevi's new blade. Its blade was black and curved, giving off a slightly purple shine to it from the amethyst. Its handle wrapped in a dark gray leather. She picked up the blade to observe what she had created. She could now say she was a blacksmith with her very first weapon.
