As he was making his way back towards an area of the rolling plains of grassland that was somewhat more manageable in terms of being able to actually see where he was going and what he was doing instead of blindly probing about with his axe Mack was surprised when his foot encountered something that was decidedly solid. Solid, and yet also semi-squishy and soft. Something that squealed when it was abruptly startled out of its nap by some wandering adventurer inadvertently stepping on its tail. Reflexively, Mack hopped backwards a few feet and swung his axe wildly at the boar, missing it by several inches as the blade swished harmlessly over the top of the creature.

After the initial shock of the boar and the warrior surprising each other in the grass wore off both man and beast began to circle each other. Mack allowed a small, tight, grin to grace his lips for a moment as he considered this foe. On the whole, he couldn't see much to be worried about. If he could smack small songbirds out of the air with his axe like a professional big league slugger then how hard could it possibly be to bury his axe blade up to its hilt in a boar that was many times the size of the birds?

Not seeing much to fear in this particular foe, after all, the first boar had certainly been easy enough to kill, Mack simply set his feet and waited for the animal to charge. As the boar came crashing in towards him in all of its nasty piggy glory the axe wielding warrior waited, timed his swing and stepped to the side as he swung. The axe bit deep into the boar's flesh and the boar's tusks just managed to catch one of Mack's legs. A fair exchange. One more like it and the battle would be all over.

As Mack and the boar circled for a moment in the wake of their first exchange of attacks each seemed to be considering their options. However, on this occasion, it was the big warrior who reacted first. As the boar began to paw the ground once more, in preparation for charging and attacking again, Mack decided to take the initiative. Leaping forward into attacking range on the mammoth warrior swung his axe up and over his head and brought the blade down on the boar. weapon bit deep into the boar's flesh and the animal exploded into pixelated dust before melting away. Planting the butt of his axe in the ground, Mack used the haft as a bit of a cane and knelt to examine the ground where the boar had been slain. He didn't really expect to find any loot from the creature and he was not surprised to not find anything. It had clearly been a low-level boar beneath his current level.

Holding his hand up to his eyes to shield them from the sun as he turned and looked in the direction that it coming from, Mack squinted into the distance. A few miles out it looked like there was a line of trees in the distance, maybe a mile or two out to the east. That seemed as likely a place as any to, perhaps, find something that was a bit more of a worthy challenge to do battle with as he continued the slog through the lower levels. Maybe a few wolves would do the trick, and drop a little bit more in the way of loot. Maybe some semi-precious stones or lock picks or just general junk items that could be sold to an NPC store vendor for a spot of extra col.
