Mack: 40/42
Bat: 12/30 (-2 Bleed)

Mack could hear the sounds the giant bat was making as it flapped around in the cavern. He could also, just barely, hear the sounds of the bat's digital blood leaking out onto the cave floor. That told the hulking blonde warrior that he had landed a critical hit on the bat when he had curb stomped it a moment ago, a happy bonus. Listening carefully to the sounds of the bat's wings as it flapped around and into position to launch another attack Mack waited until he could no longer hear the bat's wings beating the air to keep it aloft. That meant that the bat had gone into a dive to attack. The blonde warrior ducked and the bat went soaring by, cleaning missing.

As the bat extended its leathery wings to begin flapping away in preparation for another attack Mack launched a horizontal slashing attack with Guillotine. Once again there was a satisfying wet squelching sound as the blade of the bearded axe bit deeply into the bat's flesh. Mack strongly suspected that he had landed yet another critical strike on the animal. The bat, for its part, also raised quite a terrific ruckus when Guillotine found its mark. This fight was turning out to be considerably easier that the first one had been, in part because there was no learning curve this time. One more good strike should do the trick and then Mack could find the NPC and complete the quest.

Mack listened intently in the inky blackness of the cavern, searching out the sounds of the flapping wings of the bat. Taking a few steps forward, in an effort to throw off the bat's sense of direction for where the target was, Mack only succeeded in placing himself directly in the path of the madly flapping beast. The bat attacked with a screech and began raking its claws over every bit of the blonde warrior that it could reach. With a snarl of rage, Mack dropped Guillotine to the ground and reached up to pluck the bat from the air. For the second time, he slammed the creature to the ground and proceeded to curb stomp it with his booted feet. This time, it proved too much for the bat which dissolved in a shower of pixels as light returned to the room.

Muttering dark imprecations about darkness riddled caves that turned out the lights even to those with light generating equipment, Mack snatched up the crafting material that had been dropped by the bat and then he grabbed Guillotine and buried it in the nearest ore vein. There was a shower of sparks and some ore that could be used in crafting skittered across the floor. Mack quickly picked up the items and added them to his inventory.

With light flooding the cavern once more, Mack swung Guillotine down off of his shoulder and into the ore vein. The second strike, however, produced no usable crafting materials. The blonde behemoth was just drawing the axe back to swing again when a tiny voice said, "I want to go home!" Mack looked around, his grey eyes searching the cave and, sure enough, there was the missing child of the NPC that had sent him on the quest in the first place.

"Come along then," the blonde warrior said, gesturing to the child and leading the NPC from the cave. Within an hour, Mack had returned with the child to Erbus and completed the quest.
