[PP-F2] Fists of Steel VS Rock of... Rock. (Mack) (Breaking the Unbreakable) [COMPLETE]

Recommended Posts

Kalesh was continuing his mission to obtain new skills and experience, working to better himself and make his character all the stronger in preparation for further challenges. So naturally he was going to smash a rock. He knew that the stone mentioned in a quest respawned at the dungeon entrance for this floor, but he had no real idea where that was exactly. He spent a moment considering how to resolve this issue, shutting his brown eyes and scratching through his matching hair before he decided to take a gamble. More than one person had responded to his call for help before, so after spending a moment sorting through names he found the right guy and sent him a message.

From: Kalesh

To: Mack

Hey! You may not remember me, but I was that guy who was doing that 5th floor request. If you are still willing to help me, I'm by the second floor teleporter to do the martial arts quest. A nudge in the right direction and maybe a tip or two would be appreciated! Kinda stuck right now.

Content with his summary he sent the message on its way and awaited a response or his arrival, whichever came first. Since he was in town his blade and helm weren't equipped yet.

There was a flash in the Portal Plaza in the city of Urbus and the light resolved itself into the form of a tall blonde axe-wielding warrior clad in armor that was primarily white, trimmed with black. For the moment, Mack didn't have the face mask that was part of the Angelic Sheath attached to the armor and the hooded cowl was thrown back since he was in town. There was no need to go about scaring the local populace, after all. Moving down the few steps and into the plaza proper, the grey-eyed man surveyed the crowd over the heads of most of the people assembled searching for the person that he was here to help out with a quest that he had already completed. Apparently, this Kalesh person whom Mack had never met was seeking assistance in completing the "Breaking the Unbreakable" quest, the problem was that Mack really didn't know who it was he was looking for.

Thankfully for the both of them, Mack didn't need to wait long. He was nearby and watching the teleporter while he was idle, grinning as he raised his arm and asked aloud "Heeeeey, are you Mack?" He kept waving in case it took a moment for him to look in his direction. Ever the unprepared newbie he was still wearing starter gear and not a lot else. He didn't have enough of a 'look' to really need to keep anything equipped so he was plenty content not to weigh himself down with gear. He had made the assumption that Mack had done the quest, and another in assuming he remembered it. If this man was Mack, his arrival was either a huge coincidence or proof that he did, otherwise he'd have gotten the message 'nah".

"Keep your voice down," Mack growled once he was close enough to Kalesh to make himself heard without having to shout. "You shouldn't shout like that unless you're in the middle of a fight, noise draws mobs and you can get swarmed." Mack considered the other warrior for a moment, a two-handed sword wielder. There was nothing that the blonde smith had in his shop that could help that kind of build, so there was no point in offering anything further. Given the guy's level, he wouldn't have any points in an armor skill quite yet. Probably. "I take it you're Kalesh and you're wanting to complete Breaking the Unbreakable'?"

Kalesh raised a brow at the taller man as he spoke, narrowing his eyes slightly before taking a breath and nodding "Yup, I'm Kalesh, and is that the name? The only thing I know for sure is that it is on this floor, and it grants a skill for fist fighting." He forced a slight smile "That's why I'm asking for help." He held his head up tall and adds "And don't worry, I don't have any hate skills, I won't be making a lot of noise... Outside of safe zones. Thank you for the advice, however!" He said what was on his mind and started to tap through menus, a party invite showing up a moment later on Mack's UI. If he accepted then he knew he'd get a little help, if the request was denied he'd take that as a refusal.

Mack watched as Kalesh sorted through his menu and sent the party invitation. When the window popped up asking if he wanted to join a party with Kalesh the hulking axe-man tapped the accept option. That was that, then. Mack had no need for the col that would come in at the end of the quest, so Kalesh could keep all of it. The next major question was going to be whether or not Kalesh knew where the unbreakable rock was. Really, the function of Mack within the party was to act as guide and to kill things that threatened the success of the group. "Main gate to the city is this way," he rumbled in the same low tone, unslinging Guillotine from his back and beginning to march off in the direction of the main gate.

Kalesh nodded when Mack started to march. As they made their way he opened his inventory and equipped his helm and then his greatsword, lifting the claymore sized blade up onto his shoulder as he followed to the main gate. "I've yet to go to this floor's dungeon, of course. Quest would be a lot closer to being done if I had." He grins while looking past Mack and towards the horizon. "How long do you think it'll take to get there on foot?" He glanced towards the more experienced player while gathering information. He wasn't asking the specifics of the quest of course, and had little plan to. Kinda ruins the fun if you know the answer to a puzzle beforehand!

"An hour or so, on foot," Mack rumbled, leading the way through Urbus' ancient looking wrought iron gates and out into the forest beyond. As they passed through the gate he reached up with his free hand and tugged the hood of his armor up over his head. With a large, ground devouring pace, the warrior began to trek in the direction of the dungeon's entrance. No doubt, he would be expected to serve as the tank for any combat situations that arose during the course of fulfilling this quest, but that was fine. Of course, Mack was also perfectly content to carry on the journey in silence, so if they were to have any conversation the impetus for it would largely rest on Kalesh's shoulders.

With Mack's response he nodded and said "Understood. This is only the second floor, the monsters shouldn't be overly tough... Probably juuust weaker than me... Unless you want to stray from the road a bit and find the tougher guys." He shrugged, some people needed to fight and he could respect that, but he was content to take the safer path for the time being. As the large man stepped he worked to keep up while holding his blade in place tightly, rather surprised such a tall man was in this game. Less so by his choice of weapon if he were to be totally honest. He used a greatsword mostly for the fantasy that games such as Dungeon Fighter gave him for the berserker combat style.

"There's no need to stray from the path, this way will take us directly to the rock that you need to break," Mack responded, not bothering to elaborate on the way in which he had solved the quest's riddle when he had taken it with Beoreson. With his axe still slung over his shoulder and his white armor glittered in the sunlight. So far, they had yet to run across any mobs that needed killing, which was a bit odd and slightly concerning to Mack. Usually there would have been something to attack them by this point given that most of the mobs were generally unconcerned about taking on even someone the size of the hulking axe-man.

Kalesh nodded in understanding, giving a slight shrug. Goal oriented, he could respect that. He was more the type to finish all the subquests first in RPGs though, so to him it seemed more unusual to not fight everything in sight. He was going to do his best to stick to that decision and not cause too much trouble for Mack as long as the world decided to behave.

After a few more minutes of marching a wolf decided to run towards the road, and into the range of the other players. It aggroed and growled at the two players, first lunging at Kalesh, like an animal noticing the weakest of the pack. Kalesh managed to step out of the beast's path though, caught off guard and unable to counter he holds his blade at the ready. "Enemy encountered!" He announces, just to be safe.

Mack turned his grey eyes, almost lazily, to regard the wolf. The animal was such a low-level mob that it was hardly worth his time to even consider fighting. Planting the iron butt cap of Guillotine in the ground, he leaned on the dull top part of the blade and gestured at the animal. "Well, go ahead and kill it," he rumbled, making a gesture that plainly said Kalesh should hurry up and get on with it. "If your party mates always do everything for you, then you'll never learn. Also, if I kill it you won't get any loot because it's too low level." Stifling a yawn behind his hand, Mack waited for Kalesh to engage the wolf. If it looked like the other warrior needed a hand, then the big axe-man would intervene.

Kalesh raised a brow at Mack's words and how he perceived them, but bit his tongue and looked to the wolf instead. He decided not to point out that he could have softened the creature and allowed him the killing blow, or how he had no plans of having Mack do all the work, it would probably cause more problem than it'd fix.

With his blade readied her stepped to the snarling wolf and lunged with his blade, the wolf the same with its fang. Kalesh's aim was better though, the tip of his blade dragging across the wolf's side as they ran past the other, doing some minor damage to the beast. With one unpunished hit down, Kalesh had the advantage and he was proud of that much.

"Here," Mack called out after Kalesh landed his first hit on the wolf. The hulking white clad warrior flipped a small red liquid filled vial through the air in the direction of his other party member. The vial tumbled end over end, but Mack had confidence that Kalesh would catch it. "Nice strike, but you should really hold your blade in a low guard against the wolf. I don't care what Liam Neeson says in Kingdom of Heaven, the wolf won't come at you from a top strike. Use the health potion if you need it, and give us a shout if you need help," the hulking warrior continued, still supremely unconcerned that Kalesh was in any sort of real trouble.

Kalesh gasped as the potion was tossed at him, more concerned about the price of the item going to waste than anything else! He is forced to grunt in effort to keep his blade lifted as he reaches out and catches the bottle, swiftly tapping some virtual buttons with his pinky finger so the bottle would enter his inventory. "Thanks! I can give it back after if I don't need it!" He grasps his blade again, lowering the blade a bit as Mack suggested. He didn't have any points in the Parry skill so this would need to do.

That moment of distraction from nabbing the bottle cost Kalesh a few hit points however, his attention and defense broke as the beast charge and bites his ankle, leaving Kalesh with a splash of red pixels to mark the wounded area! His first instinct was to skewer the wolf but it dodged away, just making him stab his blade into the ground like a reverse King Arthur. "Tsk! ... And you are sure you don't mean The Grey? Haven't seen the other one."

"Did Liam Neeson use a sword in The Grey," Mack asked, unfamiliar with the film. He watched as the wolf darted in and sank its teeth into Kalesh's ankle. That did happen sometimes. Still, the wound wasn't a bad one and Mack had yet to run across a wolf with any kind of crazy bonuses to its attack like bleed or paralyze. Kalesh was still fine and so Mack remained rooted to his spot, watching the wolf and Kalesh duke it out. The hulking blonde man was well aware that it would only take him one hit to kill the wolf at this point and that, even at full health, if he had smacked it with a critical strike he could have one hit quit the fuzz ball. No, this fight was good for Kalesh, it would build character.

Kalesh quickly responded "No, but he did use a knife. Seriously, wolves are the antagonists of that movie." He chuckled and tried to keep his attention to the wolf as he readied himself for their next clash, which took the initiative on and charged at the beast! This time it was the wolf's turn to fumble, Kalesh swinging his blade a little reminiscent of a baseball bat. The bladed edge hitting the wolf across the face and making it do a roll from the impact. Satisfied he returns his blade to a more ready position as he stared the wolf down. It definitely had no bleed effects, the red pixel on his leg closing up.

"Not familiar with the film," the axe-wielding mountain of a man said, stifling a yawn behind his head. "Are you going to play lookie-loo with that wolf all day, or kill it and move on," the blonde man asked, stifling another yawn behind one of his massive hands as he continued to lean on the top of the axe blade. "Make sure to check that wolf's corpse for pick axes, by the way," Mack continued in an attempt at a helpful tone. He would have tossed Guillotine to Kalesh to use, but it was clear that the guy didn't have any skills in axe wielding. Truth be told, Mack had yet to run across too many people that were axe users. It made him feel a bit special, but it also meant that Midnight Eclipse was seeing exactly zero purchasing interest as it sat on the display table in his shop.

Kalesh looked to Mack as he was momentarily distracted by the mention of a pickaxe. "Wait, what? We mining ore or something?" He shakes his head to get it back into the game and looks to the wolf "And sorry, but some of us are still in our starter gear!" He chuckled as he charged at the wolf yet again, trying to save his col for a decent upgrade to his sword. Armor could wait, he had plans for that but he lacked even an armor skill!

It was the wolf's turn to attack this time it seemed though, the beast lunging and catching his arm mid-slash. This ruined his attack and he had to shake the beast off before it got too good a grip, shoving it off with no damage done to the beast as he regripped his weapon.

As Mack watched the ongoing battle between the low-level wolf and Kalesh he considered his options. On the one hand, the hulking blonde axe-man was anxious to get this little escort mission over with. That definitely made him want to jump in and finish off the mob. On the other hand, if he did that then Kalesh wouldn't be able to get any loot from the creature because of how the game's engine was set up. Still, the big burly blonde needed something to occupy his time. Why not do a little tree farming for crafting materials while he was waiting? That certainly made sense. Turning to the nearest tree, Mack slung Guillotine down from his shoulder and buried the bearded head of the axe in the tree. There was a shower of wood chips and Mack picked up a piece of lumber suitable for crafting.
