Takao 0 Posted August 31, 2015 Author #21 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 Takao was adamant on keeping the bat grounded, so when its large leathery wings began to flap in an attempt to lift its battered and injured body off the cold cave floor, the brunet was quick to act. He stepped forward and threw yet another strike at the monster, this time assisted by the system through the use of a sword skill. It was a simple one, and although the post-motion cooldown that would keep him stood in place for a moment was just a bit longer than he would've liked to use without somebody else helping him in combat, it packed enough punch to prevent the bat from taking flight. Takao 0 Posted August 31, 2015 Author #22 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 The monster was capable of recovering much faster than Takao had anticipated, and before he could move himself, the bat was already coming closer. It swiped at his leg yet again and, just like the previous times, only managed to take away a small sliver of his health. At this point it was more of an annoyance, and he was certain that if the quest didn't force him into combat, he could've just walked away from the monster without any worry of it taking down his health before he managed to leave the cave. He wouldn't do something so reckless of course, just in case he came across more monsters on the way back, but the thought had certainly crossed his mind nonetheless. Whatever damage it could deal wouldn't be enough to make the brunet worry, so his face was stone-cold and unfazed by the bat's sudden advance. He cocked back his arm and sent the monster flying back with an exaggerated slash akin to swinging a baseball bat. The last of its health was cut away, and it dropped lifelessly to the ground before bursting into colourful luminescent shards of data. Takao didn't stay to watch, however, as he rushed toward the torch as it flickered with the last of its light. He dropped down into a slide and grabbed it just before it went out, and the flame rekindled to its full strength after leaving the wet cave floor. Takao 0 Posted August 31, 2015 Author #24 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) With the monsters that impeded his progress defeated, his torch retrieved and the flame rekindled, and the faded sounds of a distant cry leading him in the right direction, Takao set out to complete the quest as quickly as he could. He wandered through the dank cave interior for what felt like much longer than it was in reality, slowly closing in on the source of the wails. It was difficult to locate, the sound bounced off the walls and seemed to lead him in a plethora of different directions, yet he finally found the woman's daughter sitting on the ground with her knees up to her chest. A relieved sigh escaped from his mouth and he sheathed the sword, the sound of which seemed to startle the girl slightly."Hey Kiddo," Takao said as he slowly dropped down to one knee a meter or two in front of her. A warm and genuine smile grew on his face, as if to comfort the girl he knew wasn't even the slightest bit real. "Your mum told me you might need some help. She's really worried about'cha, y'now." He said, musing about how the girl seemed to be around the same age as his younger sister in the real world, which put a bit of pain behind his smile. The child informed him of her inability to walk, so he carried her on his back instead. His equipment load was fairly low, which made carrying the small child a nonissue. When they were out of the cave, he helped her back to the settlement of Urbas and reunited her with her mother.
