[SP-F4] The Gemini (Complete)

Recommended Posts

Rebekah had overheard someone talking about seeing a fast blonde rapier player somewhere on this fourth floor. That was impossible because she was the only one who had fit those descriptions, but she took her weapons and decided to go see for herself. She had of course heard of rumors of doppelgangers or mirror image copies of players around, yet she had never believed a single one of those stories before in the past. From what she had heard, all she needed to do was to kill the fake clone of herself, which was easier said than done. She figured they will be similar in strength but the real Rebekah will have the slight edge. She had never participated in a death duel before, and knew that no matter what happened, a version of her will disappear forever, hopefully the fake one. As she stepped out of her shop, she knew that the location was not far away, and she wanted to avoid being seen making the journey, so she left at night when it was the quietest, and everyone was asleep or in a bar on this small village.

While it took her an hour to arrive, when she nearly got there, she saw that familiar shade of blonde. There was only one person that had that colour, herself. As she got closer, the girl inspected every detail of the clone, and it looked completely alike except the equipment the clone had did not seem that real. She knew that it was going to be dangerous, but she headed for it anyways, and as she did that, she knew that it was going to be hard for her to not to be distracted. It was not everyday that she looked at the mirror to see how she has grown, and looking at the clone allowed her an opportunity to see if her hair was too long, if she should change to another shade, or just do a minor makeover of her own appearance. But she looked just fine, just what she had wanted to look like, so Rebekah got that out of her head as soon as possible. This was her last chance to bail, but as a brigadier, that was not what she would do in these situations, after all, she had a semi reputation to hold up.

The moment she approached it, a notification had appeared in front of her. That was exactly what she had heard about from other players, where it was a life or death duel that they participate in to see who is stronger. She did not hesitate to answer Yes, because that was the whole reason why she was here. If her goal was not to fight it today, then there would be no reason for her to show up. But nobody had told her about any quests, or so, and that was new. Maybe there was a reward for finishing this, but nonetheless, this is the situation that the girl is in right now, a life or death duel with nobody around. It was perfect training for her in the middle of the night on a random place on the fourth floor, just what she was looking forward to.

With that, the clone teased, "That was such a foolish choice. Now prepare to die," as it drew out a replica of her rapier. Just by glancing at her, Rebekah knew that she was going to be tough opponent. But that was the thing, it was a replica of her heartstriker that Lessa had crafted for her about a year ago, nothing could ever mimic the quality of that fine sword. Because of that fact alone, she knew that she had a right to be confident in this battle, after all the real her had the item advantage, with all pure perfect items rather than fake copies. This was a fake copy of her that she was dealing with, and she knew that she had to resort to certain tactics that she had a weakness at.

The clone was too focused on attempting to throw me off. Perhaps, I can land a quick strike to start. That was what was going through her head to start the battle. As she dashed quickly towards the clone, she knew that she had to start off with a quick but nice swordskill, which would be one of her favourites out of all of them. This was the first thing on her mind, strike fast and quick, then defeat it with a few clean strikes. She knew the reason why she wanted to land a huge combo to start was to give her the momentum and make it the gemini's responsibility to respond. After all, it was better to act first and make the opponent respond to her actions other than the opposite way around.

What Rebekah did not realize was the speed of the gemini, similar to her they both were faster than the average player, but she was accounting to face an average clone, not one with half her speed. That threw her completely off, as she had never faced a speed type before, giving her a significant disadvantage. What she could do is try to dodge but her evasion was not going to help her today, as two players with similar speeds eliminates every advantage that she had to offer. The gemini lunged forward with its rapier, hoping to strike her. As she was thinking, she was not expecting a quick strike, and there was that speed that she had been accustomed to used by her copycat. There has to be a way to exploit her own weakness she thought.

If Rebekah had any weakness, she knew that it would be against heavy damage types. Those were the ones who were able to destroy her easily, or tanks. They had to be on the extreme end of high damage dealers, or the extreme ends of tanks, if not, she was going to be able to beat everything else. She knew this means she has to use her speed when the gemini was not expecting to open up with a powerful swordskill, as that was the only path to victory for the blonde. This was the only thing that she was vulnerable to, and she knew that she had to shore them up, and this would be a way to do so. Besides, who else knew her better than herself. This was going to be a problem, she was unable to land that strike that she had hoped for and quickly missed both of her feeble attempts.

The girl was not concern at all, as she still had a few health potions lying around in her inventory. The gemini knew that it could easily strike the girl with ease, and this was its opportunity to do so, before anything else could happen. It struck the girl once again, dealing a mere small amount of damage, but still enough to make this battle a lot harder. She knew that this was going to be the ultimate test of strength, as she needed to wake up. There was no dodging something this fast, but she knew that there has to be something that she can do. After all, this was starting to feel difficult which is a nice change, as the hardest thing she ever soloed was an Iron Guardian, but even then that took time but it was fightable for her.

Rebekah knew that she had to dig deep inside of herself to find the answer that she had been lacking so far. There was only one thing that she had wanted, which was to win this battle to test her strength as a warrior. There was no other way to do this than now. She knew that she was taking on a risk when her equipment was not completely ideal for this battle, but it was better than not having anything at all. After all, she became a grandmaster, which meant there was no way she was going to lose to something weak. As she looked onwards, she knew that she had one powerful sword skill, over-radiation, which was the strongest move for any rapier user. Using this move she was able to instantly knock out the majority of the gemini's health bar, depleting it into the red, without a way to naturally heal itself. Now that was the Rebekah that she had been accustomed to seeing in the past, one that would easily face challenges head on and succeed.

Taking everything into consideration, there was only one thing left. It did not expect such a powerful move from such a small girl. It did not seem like she carried that amount of damage with her, but she did, and that was the problem. That advantage that it had gained had disappeared instantly, and was now thinking maybe this whole duel was not a great idea after all.But it hoped the girl would become overconfident and mess up an impending attack. It still had some punch left, and struck her for another clean hit, as she was still admiring her move.

Thinking about what to do, Rebekah knew that all she needed was one simple linear combo, and nothing else. There was no way she was going to miss this, as it was the most basic skill that she had ever learned, and the one that every player would perfect before moving on. She rushed in and landed a simple linear skill before knowing it was time to disengage. As she finished the battle, now was the time to rest up before moving onward for the rest of the day. There was a lot that she still had to do, and it was time to slowly head back to town safely. She was happy that she did not need to burn any potions to save herself as she was strong for a reason.

As she started making her way back towards the town, she realized that she had not been in this area of the fourth floor before, and this called her to explore a bit before getting back. There were a lot of things that she had to take care of, but first she knew it would be best if she could go searching for a few things that may be on her way. It was efficiency to the extreme, planning her route to do several things at the same time, so she did not have to care about collecting them on another day. One thing that had still bothered her was her ability to dodge, was affected by the recent changes, as her clone managed to strike her with every move, but she was unable to copy that same level of efficiency with her movements.

As she started to walk down the hill, back towards the town, she could see the lights in the distance. It was almost morning but it was still dark out. She realized that nobody was outside yet and she could continue staying outside of the town, even though her health was quite low, just a tad bit over thirty percent. The blonde continued to look for anything that had resembled a mat, that can be used for cooking. In the snow, everything seem the same, and she could not find the same thing that she liked. Rebekah stayed calm and continued to look, there has to be something around here.

If there was ever a time to stay behind and search the area around where she had found the material, this was the least convenient time. The last thing she wanted was to face another monster out here in the wild, with her health bar in the yellow, as she was a lot less room to work with. When she was at full health, she could be so much more reckless, but now she had to adhere to typical safety rules given to weaker players such as always staying on the trail, and never wondering off on your own in the dark, especially for the girl. Rebekah was already breaking the latter of that rule, which is why she knew that it was time to just continue walking, and collect whatever she could.

The girl was still a decent ways away from the town, but as she continued, she wondered if there was anything important that she needed to do. There were still a lot of materials to be collected, and she knew that heading back now would give her another errand to run in the near future. Now was the time to continue looking, since she was having considerable amount of luck in this area, but not just this area, she was receiving them everywhere. She wondered how much longer it was going to take for her to finish, but she knew that material hunting was based on luck and nothing else. But she was having a lot of it here, and she found another one in the ground.

Rebekah knew that her luck should run out, having had found three in a row, but for whatever reason she knew she had to push the boundaries again. After all, that was everything that she wanted to do, test everything as much as possible. If her mat haul was significant here, that would save her a few days of crafting but otherwise, it would be back to the drawing board. She needed to find more success and it had been evading her the entire time. What else could she do, but she did not have the answer to that, maybe fight a monster but her health bar was too low for any of that to work. This was a rarity, four in a row, surely it could not get any better than this. She knew that she was going to mark down this area, and return to it again in the near future.

While she would have liked to stay here for a bit longer, she knew now was the time that she had to leave and move on back towards the fourth floor. That did not mean she can stop searching but all it meant was that she now had to continually move towards her shop where she can drop off all these mats for her to use. There was something about her strength that had intrigued her, she was close to dying but she still managed to put up a good fight, although that evasion needs a lot more work. It was harder to dodge these brand new sword skills, and there had to be a way to do it, she just did not know it now.

As she was reflecting on her actions, she knew that it was going to take some time until they were finished. Maybe there was a way to evade but it was not possible with her shield, every other method was a lot more plausible. Her shield became somewhat of a burden as it was heavy enough to slow her movement, and that would leave her defenseless. But that was the only option she had, she had to become lighter to have the evasion necessary to win battles. I need to be able to dodge that or else she was going to have a lot of trouble at the upcoming boss raid shortly, and this was a quick refresher to how to battle again.

After all that walking, the blonde was now tired and wanted to sleep. She had been up all night, and as she approached the town gate, her health bar was still in the yellow, but it was better than before. It had been a productive night for her, securing 5 materials and killing the gemini, which cross something off her bucketlist. Perhaps she should collect that blade from a beginner`s quest, since they were untradable, and it was nice to have the same skills as everyone else. She still needed to make her way through the town without being spotted, as she did not want to anyone to see her with a bad health bar, but it was still before dawn. In the forth floor, it felt like night constantly, so she was going to have no problem sleeping in her shop.

While she had an option of going to an inn, she liked to save her col in case for what would be necessary expenditures. She had heard about the new rules regarding the new housing and guild hall, and wondered would Zel have enough for Azure to have one. But it was highly unlikely a single person have saved up that amount of col, but if there was anyone that would do it, it was him. She had a fair amount, not too much, but she was rich compared to a lot of players out there. Earning col was sort of her other thing that she did, once in a while, it came to her, and she wondered when would be the day when she would have enough to move to a new place. It was highly unlikely that she could at the moment, but as long as she worked hard, it would not be difficult in the near future.
