[F-11] Life takes wing [Completed]

Recommended Posts

After spiralling into a depression and being saved by Mai, Life could finally see the world in front of him again. He wasn't going to sit idle and watch the world go past him anymore. Mari and the others had taken down Yamata fairly easily and quickly without many casualties. There were definitely some strong players, but Life wasn't about to be undone. He was once one of the strongest players in the game and he wasn't about to let that title slip. He needed to step things up, and that's exactly what he planned on doing.

And so here he was on the eleventh floor, the floor which he should have helped to unlock and clear. Typically he was to busy feeling sorry for himself.. Life shook his head, trying to get the negative thoughts out of his head. His mind was relatively clear, or as clear as it will ever be at this point. The eleventh floor was pretty. The sun was high and the air was fresh. He looked around and noticed the architecture, it was exactly like in renascence italy. Life smirked, of course it was, this was a game and that was exactly what it had been modelled after, it only made sense afterall.

Life took in the scenery and the structuring of the the buildings, it all seemed so perfect. Life walked over to some of the stands and examined the goods. It didn't occur to him that he was out of town and this was completely unprotected, or else he would have more weary of the bandit sneaking behind him. It took a lunge at him and brought it's weapon down swiftly at Life's back. Life sensed something behind him and drew his blade with a lighting fast reflex, deflecting the bandits blade and dodging to the side. Life thought it was time to try something new for a change, his blade went blue and activated Wa Shu. He cut the bandits torso upwards, diagonally, spun around to his side and cut his arm bringing it up and cutting his side diagonally before bringing his blade down viscously completely slashing through a large majority of the bandits hp, instantly bringing it to the red zone.

The bandit stood shakily and threw himself back at life with a flurry of attacks. Strike by strike Life evaded each attack as if it were nothing. The bandits speed from its aggravation was quite impressive but all that was needed was one counter attack from life for it to be all over. Life noticed he was so focused on dodging he couldn't get a hit in and started to get irritated. "You're one persistent bastard aren't you" The two figures danced through the open market stall, knocking over box piles and kicking up dust and dirt from the dry ground beneath their feet. Life grimaced at the realisation that his kimono was going to get dirty. Life spun past the bandit and behind it and let the bottom of his kimono flare out and blow away all the dust that was beggining to hover over the battlefield. "Why do you A.I's have to be so annoying"

The bandit grunted, stepped forward and rushed towards him at full strength. Life stared coldy at him and shook his head, stepping into the bandits rush. He extended his arm upwards and allowed for the length of his katana to cut upwards and stop the bandit in its tracks. He then brought the blade down and stepped in giving him more leverage as he cleaved against the bandits shoulder, making him stagger back. Before the bandit could react, Life brought his blade back and thrusted it forward, piercing through the bandits body and vaporising it. Life smirked and sheathed his blade, pleased with the result "That'll teach em"

Life felt as though he was missing something, or forgetting something. If he was to get himself back into hear, he'd have to go levelling some more. Which meant one of two things. Kill things and quest, or finally earn a living. Life hadn't thought much about getting a profession, he always thought about doing fishing as a pass time thing, but it didn't seem as good as he had hoped it to be. Life walked through some of the ruined buildings of the outskirts of floor 11. He wondered what kind of mobs lurked around apart from bandits and muggers. He made his way up a hill and scanned over the terrain. He could spot some players fighting something that looked like giant king cobras. He bit his bottom lip and looked over at the other side and saw some more players fighting some kind of large cat. As far as fighting mobs went, floor 11 seemed like the most bland and most risky. Like exhaled heavily and looked behind and saw a large forest. He tapped his lips as his curiosity began to creep over him. "Every time you go into large forests something bad happens. Come on life think straight for a second already." With that said he jumped down from the hill and began to head towards the forest.

He told himself over and over again that he was going to regret coming into the forest, but now it was to late and he was already staring up at the large canopy of the european forest filled with oak trees as far as the eye could see. He stepped carefully over the mangled roots of the trees and thought this might be a good time to try and harvest some materials, he tried carefully digging up some mushrooms that would be good for some cooks but they vaporised as his attempt to gather them failed. He mumbled under his breath, he didn't really need them but he would like to keep his stockpile at least.

Life felt a sense of nostalgia as he absorbed his surroundings. It felt like the forest of death all over again, he joked with the proposition that another tree ent was going to come and beat him to a pulp. It was probably likely, as the noticeable difference in the trees could definitely allow for it. His health slowly began to regen back and he smiled as the orange ticked back up to green, floor elevens mobs really did hit pretty hard, harder than he expected and for some reason, took a lot more punishment than he expected. He felt as though the cardinal was finally stepping up its game.

With Sword Art Online being a game limited in its recourses he thought that this was the perfect place to start climbing ahead and past the rest of the players. The majority of them were at his level range and there were a few higher.. and then there was Mari.. she had climbed much higher and got a lot stronger than he did and he was able to one hit her when he first met her. So with that said he opened his map and tried to locate the best farming spots. However the front-liners had not covered much of the area with information yet so he wasn't exactly sure who gave the best exp. Though he knew for sure there should be something in the forest he could get his sword into that'll give him a lot of exp

Life was starting to look a lot healthier now as his health bar nearly reached max. He began to start searching again looking for a good hunting spot. Normally he would be in the trees looking over the landscape so he wouldn't get jumped by anything. However he was a lot more confident in his abilities now and wasn't going to let anything get in his way because even if it did, it wouldn't pose a threat nor a challenge to him at all. At least with the way things were going now. He understood he was strong, but he wasn't anywhere near where he wanted to be if it was his desire to surpass the others. It took a great deal for Life to accept the fact that everyone had pulled so far ahead. It made him twitch for battle. Just as he said that his eyes laid upon the dungeon entrance, just like in the forest of death. It unsettled him.. What if its like last time.. with the things... His stomach turned and was hesitant to continue. He gripped his blade and reassured himself he could handle whatever came his way and stepped forward.

He approached the dungeon and placed his hand on the wall, normally the game would just let the player enter the dungeon at his own risk, but now he was starting to doubt his abilities. He couldn't exactly tell where the entrance was, it only made sense for it to be there. He felt around trying to find a way to open it, feeling rather idiotic in the process. He decided searching for some materials wouldn't be so bad either while he was at it, but to his dismay he couldn't find an opening or any materials. Life had terrible luck. He grimaced as he then suddenly had a realisation that the entrance in front of him wasn't actually the entrance, well obviously, but now it made sense. It was probably the end of the dungeon, the way to get out and getting in from this side would be like doing it backwards. Life sighed and picked himself up off of the ground and dusted himself off. Now where do i look... i dont feel like walking in circles until i find the entrance... or do i?

After much searching Life finally found the entrance, the forest however, was dead silent and made him feel eery about the whole situation. He walked towards it and placed a gentle hand on the stone slab door that marked the entrance. It was almost exactly like the one he was at before except this one was breakable. "So that's how it's gotta be for me to get in huh. Shame i didn't do breaking the unbreakable. Now how am i going to get in." Life huffed and rested his elbow on the hilt of his blade. Suddenly, he heard the sound of groaning wood splinter against his surroundings. He looked back with the corner of his eye and realised he was completely surrounded by four tree ents. The next thing he knew a large trunk thrusted straight towards him. Life strafed to the side and back flipped past all of them. The trunk of the willow tree ent went straight through the stone slab door, shattering it open. "huh, so that's how you get in" The other tree ents swung for Life, but he was to quick, and they were much to slow. Life activated his Hakku Senpu and braced himself "Never used this one, lets see what you can do" The next second Life was launched towards them, spinning like a hurricane. His blade cut against the willow wood of the bark clad creatures and within a few moment, they were nothing more than a pile of chopped fire wood. His katana blade tore through them viciously and their health depleted within a matter of seconds. Life landed back on the ground, a few meters away from the four trees and sheathed his blade. He stood up and the four giant willow ents exploded into an array of pixels. A loot screen popped up and he was surprised with the amount he was rewarded with. "I guess fighting on higher floors pays off quite well". He looked down at his energy bar and grimaced, realising he was down a lot.

Life sighed softly and dusted himself off, surprised with his own abilities. He headed into the the depths of the dungeon unsure of what he was going to find. The tunnel was rocky and earthen, much like the previous one he had faced, he wondered his Kayaba had gotten lazy and started to just copy pasta designs. It seemed like that was what was going on but then he soon realised that the mobs were limited and he was responsible for afew clean outs in certain areas. Either way Life was going to keep exploiting uncleared areas and he was going to do it quickly and effectively. He reached a large chamber within the cave he explored and a dark and dreary theme started to play in the background "I have a real bad feeling about this now" he mumbled to himself. Life went into the centre of the room and awaited to be 'surprised' by an ambush of mobs. However he wasn't greeted by any such. Instead he laid his eyes upon two paths to take, one with a skull and crossbones sign above its route and the other with a symbol of peace. Life scoffed, feeling challenged by the cardinal. "Very well, let's see what you have for me then"

Life headed down the skull and crossbones tunnel and kept his sense alert. He wasn't going to let the game get the drop on him, and he felt as though it was intentionally trying to get him to lower his guard. However he didn't, not for a moment, he was as alert as ever. He wasn't going to let himself grow restless and impatient. He took careful steps through the tunnel like catacombs. Life checked the tune ti see how long he had been travelling for and to his delight he had not spent to long travelling and exploring this floor. It was an unusual one but he liked it. It reminded him of italy. Eventually he reached another room and the tunnel behind him collapsed in on himself. "I see, so no going back now huh..?" He took a step further and the room lit up brightly and four statues stood in the centre. "I wonder who im going to fight" He joked with himself.

The statues, as excepted began to move. Life smirked and shrugged "Oh please this is child's play" Life launched himself forward into the middle of the four as his blade began to glow blue cutting down a guardian statue in the process. He then hovered mid air, falling slowly as the rest of his blade lit up a bright blue light and he spun cutting down the other. Before it exploded however he jumped off the statues body and continued his whirlwind motion spinning twice more rapidly, nearly instantaneously. All that could be seen from the exchange was a flurry of blue and two currently of air slashing through the stone clad guardians. They were easy to take and wasn't exactly sure why it was such a big deal. He landed gently on the floor and proceeded through the dungeon, moving onto the next room. Surely the rest wouldn't be this disappointing.

The statues crumbled and dissipated in the usual fashion that Sao provided upon destruction of things. Life received a message from his information broker which often kept him updated on most things. "The floor eleven boss has been defeated, the next floor has been unlocked. Zel displayed amazing strength and nearly killed it with one sword art. He also seemed to have shown the ability bypass armour, rumoured to be a unique skill" He stood still, staring at the message. He almost felt as if he was defeated. It they barely spent any time with it, no doubt Zelrius destroyed it single handedly, that boy was scary strong right now. He definitely paled in comparison to such players. He felt a little sick in his stomach that he was so far behind. He hands rested by his side and he swiped the message away. He sat down on a fallen stone column which decorated the ancient ruin type dungeon and held his head in his hands.

Life decided it was best to just keep going, he had a lot to catch up with still. He reminded himself that he still was weak, and not nearly good enough to fight on the front lines beside everyone else. "Yes that's right... I must get stronger. I MUST get stronger" That said he sprung from where he sat and began to sprint through the dungeon halls looking for enemies or anything that could offer him experience. So far he had been doing decent but he needed a lot more if he wanted to contest the other DPS players of the game. Some players were extremely lucky in the boss fight, 4 unique items dropped and he was a little surprised and jealous he only had his normal build, nothing special really. This had to change.

Life decided that he should equip the item her got from the crimson jeweller. The item called the blessing of the goddess, which would cap him out on accuracy. Though realistically he would be over the top but he wanted to test it out anyway, it would sacrifice some thorn damage and light momentum but he felt the passive bonus was better anyway. He heard a noise coming from the other room of the dungeon and waited for his energy regen to kick in. He peered through open doorway and noticed another four mobs, guarding what seemed to be a large stairwell. "Well while I wait for my energy regen to kick in I might as well search for materials since this is a loot and experience gathering thing" He crouched down and looked to see if he could harvest some of the mushroom that grew around the area, but they were frail and he failed his attempt by breaking them in the process "Gah, that sucks"

He was ready to fight, he ran into the room but the instant he did a siren went off. The door behind him closed and the room was dark. He was trapped. He drew his blade out from its sheath and grimaced at the 4 surrounding stone soldiers. The charged him and life did what he did best and began to dodge. It was easy for him to best the soldiers as they barely offered any speed in the fight. It didn't take long for Life to find and opening once all of them had a swing at him and spun in a 360 angle hitting all of them for 1 damage. It wasnt much put it put the soldier on guard, it was a little slap on the head to get them awake, a second chance of sorts.

The mobs seemed to have not got the hint and slacked off with their next set of attacks to. "Man you guys fricken suck. Just die." He smirked as he activated his Haku Senpu sword art and obliterated all four enemies in four quick yet powerful whirlwind type slashes. The mobs fell in the same way as the twin towers, crumbling to the floor. The loot screen popped up and he was very pleased with the result, he wondered just how powerful his enemies would get as he progressed through. If any of those mobs actually hit him he probably would have been in a lot of trouble, but life was a daredevil of sorts and he was skilled enough to make up for what he lacked in his reaction speed and power.
