[SP - F2] Driving Me Batty <<Let There Be Light>> COMPLETE!

Recommended Posts

Alright! There was no stopping him now! Seul felt like he his growth had been tremendous. He was finally looking like a fully fledged adventurer. Looking the part was just half the battle though. He had to develop the skills to back it up! But where and how? The second floor shouldn't have posed any problem for him now. Almost on cue the heavens sent him an angel. A beautiful woman had approached the boy. Or at least she would have looked better if she hadn't been crying and screaming. "Er... Is something wrong ma'am?" He uttered as she wrapped him up in a monstrous bear hug. "I-I-It's my son! He...!" Her voice trailed off at the mention of her child but Seul only tightened hid resolve to figure out what was so troubling. "Your son?" She nodded in response while wiping some stray tears from her cheeks. "He had been playing in outside of town not too far from here, but never came home... His friend said that they went into a cave and were separated... H-He..." The young player brought a hand to his chin for a moment in thought before slamming his fist against his open palm. "Say no more! Seul is on the case. I'll have your kid home in no time, so don't worry." Her face wasn't exactly happy, just less sad  or so it seemed to Seul's eyes. She simply nodded again at recognition of his vow to rescue her child and waved the boy off as he sped off out of through the town's gate.

The cave wasn't as scary as he thought it'd be. He was no stranger to caves, the kobold nest somewhere else on the floor christened him despite not actually going inside. He took a deep breath before strolling in, mindful of each step he took as the light began to diminish with each passing second. "Hellooooo? Any lost children in here?" Of course he knew the answer. It was just some hopeful thinking that the child might've been nearby by some miracle, ready to be scooped up and brought back home to his mom. Things were never that easy though. It was now definitely too dark to see and all the male could manage was to keep steady by holding onto the wall. All he knew was that the kid had better have been in one piece by the time he found him.

Find a wide clearing inside the cave was something he didn't expect. After walking for what seemed like an eternity he stumbled through the opening into a room lined with blue crystals that shined like a starlit sky. It really was a sight to behold, he just wished they were more than ones and zeros in a supercomputer somewhere. The beauty was quickly overtaken by the sound of flapping wings followed by incredibly loud screeches. From the ceiling descended a giant bat that seemed intent on drinking his blood, but as it swooped in he rolled to the side to avoid being carried off. It seemed fine in the low light which in all honestly was discouraging but did not seem impossible to beat to him.

He wasn't going to let some dumb, old bat get the better of him. The wing of the bat managed to clip him on a second swooping attempt, but his trusty cloak responded with its usual thorny justice to cause minor damage. As the monster was preparing to fly off in pain Seul got into the stance to activate his sword art, Fad Edge. The knife he held took on a faint red glow before the system sent him into a flurry of strikes to the bat's body to deal massive damage. "Ha! How you like me now?! Should've thought twice before fighting the strongest player around!"

He should have known by now that taunting the enemy never ended in a favorable way. With great haste, the bat whipped back around to slap him with its wing yet again. All he could manage was a failed swipe with his dagger as he bit the dirt below from the attack. Alright, making fun of the opponent was fun that was for certain. But if it came at the cost of losing focus and not landing hits he'd have to suck it up and keep his mouth shut. There were other lives on the line other than his own after all.

As he scramble back to his feet the bat swooped in yet again but he ducked in enough time to avoid further injury. Unfortunately his own dagger couldn't quite hit its mark in the darkness and fell short of damaging the monster. The low lighting was annoying to say the least and he could definitely see how the night vision skill could prove useful in situations such as these but that was somethin he'd have to decide on at a different time. For now if he kept his cool he should've been able to fend off and kill the bat before anything bad could happen.

Seul charged at the monster with determination in his eyes. He had to live to find the child and this bat wasn't going to stop him. He lunged forward and let his dagger glow green in the darkness while he executed his Tri Pierce sword art attack. Three thrusts later, the creature's body had been pierced in three spots to form a triangle if they were connected. The beast reeled back in pain before swiping with its wing, hitting nothing but air as he rolled to the side. If it wanted to kill him it'd have to do a lot better than that.

The match was drawing to a close. The bat wasn't going to last much longer against his onslaught of attacks. He just had to keep pushing it. The back swooped in for another wing attack but failed to land a hit as the bow ducked under it and activated Tri Pierce to stab through it once again. He figured his next attack would have been enough to end the fight and that he should be thankful to his lucky stars for allowing him to make it this far. Before the bat could turn around again, he scrambled to his feet and raised his dagger in anticipation.

Neither side could quite land there mark. The darkness must have been getting to them. Seul swiped at the air and the bat only flew in circles overhead. In all honesty it was a funny sight. But the boy wasn't one for drawn out fights. He just wanted to find the kid and be on his way; the bat was standing in the way of that. In order to accomplish his quest he had to be rid of the foul creature. Killing it was his only option and once that was done his search would resume. "Come on, Nosferatu. Let's get this over with!"

The boy's luck had been terrible, but thankfully the bat's was too. Trying to collide was proving to be a challenge in the dark interior of the cave and it was starting to affect just how well he could perform. One would think that cutting open a monster flying toward them at a million miles per hour would be an easy task. The fight was showing otherwise. "This game is starting to get on my nerves-" He mumbled while lashing out in the darkness with his weapon. The bat wasn't as sneaky as he had originally imagined and the beating of its wings gave away its positon every time it swooped in to attack.

The bat managed to clip the boy with its wings causing him to stumble onto his butt. The cloak's thorns caused any damage he would've done with his attack so it wasn't a total failure but his patience was wearing thin. Monsters always had a bad tendency to stay alive way past when they should've and the bat was no different. Its health was so low that the red in the bar was almost invisible. Cursing the darkness he couldn't help but feel like the entire quest was a bit of a slap in the face at this point but he would have to fight on anyway.

It was time! The  bat had been wide open. Activating his extra skill, Concentration, he was able to focus in on the monster just long enough to stab through it with his dagger. It was a brilliant attack and seconds after landing it the creature exploded into a rainstorm of pixels which quickly dissipated from the area. With the beast down, the boy placed his hands on his knees, breathing heavily. Though the damage he sustained would heal rather quickly his energy was spent. It was best for him to rest there for some time until he was in fighting condition just in case another baby Dracula decided to rear its ugly head.

The boy pressed his back to one of the cave's walls and allowed his eyes to shift through the darkness. Would he really be able to find the missing child? Was the kid even still alive? It was hopeful thinking to believe that he was but in all honestly this place was too dangerous for some players to traverse on their own. How would a child be able to survive in here for hours by himself? Wishful thinking he supposed. Regardless, even if the boy wasn't alive, the mother still had a right to know the fate of her son. If he could find some sort of evidence of the kid's death, he'd be sure to bring it back to her. It was the least he could do.

Sitting around wasn't going to get him anywhere. Every minute spent lounging was one more minute that the child was away from his mom. Seul had to find him quick, so with that in mind he rose to his feet and trailed off down a nearby tunnel. "C'mon kid... Where are ya?" He mumbled while traipsing along in the dark. Just how far did the cave extend? And how far would the kid be willing to go? With monsters like that bat lurking in the shadows, he couldn't have made it this far in one piece. As he walked he opened up his menu and scanned through it quickly until he reached the inventory. Was it time to break out his new weapon?

With a few swift button presses his old, basic dagger vanished only to be replaced by a new one that looked quite a bit more lavish than its predecessor. He felt more powerful just looking at it and in his fit of joy he lashed out at the darkness with it a few times just to test the tiny blade out. Yup, it would do nicely. A fine addition to his ever-growing arsenal. He'd be fighting on the frontline soon enough. The next order of business was to obtain a shield somehow. Maybe a blacksmith would be able to forge one for him. But that'd have to wait until after this mission.

Before he knew it, Seul had stumbled into another large clearing within the cave. And yet another bat. He couldn't help but curse his own horrid luck while drawing his dagger to once again take down a foul monster plaguing the cave. The giant bat descended from the ceiling with a screech and reared its fangs back to take a bite into the young player. He managed to roll out of the way but also failed to land a hit on the monster as it passed. "C'mon batty, let's not drag this out."

The darkness was proving to be too tough to navigate. Seul swiped at the bat using his dagger but the beast evaded the attack and sunk its teeth in to his shoulder soon after. The cloak of course responded with its thorns effectively freeing the boy from the bat's jaws and he rubbed his shoulder as the thorns on his armor began to retract. "Well that's what you deserve! Keep attacking me and you'll die long before I do!" With the thorns ability active, even if he didn't land any hits he'd still mange to win considering how effective the enhancement was.

Once again it was a 'who could miss better contest'. Seul took his stabs at the bat, the bat took its stabs at Seul. Neither side seemed to be making any real progress. If the darn thing would just hold still so he could kill it the fight would've been a whole lot easier. But he should have come to expect these things in combat. Whenever he tried to solo fights they'd either go horribly wrong or incredibly well. Although, he supposed any fight he walked away from alive could be considered as going incredibly well.

They both missed each other. Again. Fights always ended in ridiculous ways like this. Seul would never land any hits regardless of how often he attacked. The monster would never land any hits. They'd both waste everyone's time just because of how unlucky they were. It was more annoying than anything and Seul couldn't help but groan as he watched the tiny blade whizz past the bat several times without any connections. "Will you just let me kill you already?! I have kids to rescue and levels to gain! Your death won't be in vain!"

The miss fest continued. Come on. Seriously. He had to land some hits eventually. This darkness was the worst. Even if the bat managed to hit that'd be awesome as well. The thorns would be enough to kill the monster. Why? Why did he have such cursed luck?! There was no time to waste, the child was still missing. A crit. Just a scratch. Give him something game. Anything would be better than watching two fighters look stupid by constantly missing each other.
