[SP-F12] Did Somebody Say Fishing? - Earning a Living [Complete!]

Recommended Posts

Kalesh had heard that the new floor had only recently unlocked to the regular players, and after hearing the description, of course he had to come up and see the fuss for himself! Upon arriving on the floor, it became almost immediately apparent that he would be staying up her for a little while!... outside of combat, of course. He wasn't anywhere near suicidal enough to start attacking the monsters here. With his actual goal in mind he removes his weapons, armor, all those unnecessary things and stretching out in his simple cloth clothing. Instead, he took out the simple fishing rod from his inventory. "Ohh man, I bet this place will have some great bait fish!" he said aloud as he started to wander around the strange new swampy floor that was full of water suitable for holding fish.

He had spent the first half hour of his time exploring the starting area, checking out the shops, all NPC at the moment it seemed, as well as the general environment at the borders. He noticed a lot of boats going around, and he figured he could put one of those to use. Watching them coming and going he soon found one parked with an NPC sitting next to it with a sign of some kind with a col number. He figured that was the rental price of the small flat bottomed boat. The price was cheap, so he wasn't all that hesitant to cough up the Col. The NPC said to the player "Enjoy it, it's your for the day or until you leave it for two hours." He said while breaking the fourth wall ever so slightly, making him grin and say "You got it, seeya!" He then starts to step into the boat, memories for using such a boat as a child filling his mind from school trips. "Let's see if I know how to work this thing still..." He mutters as he grabs the paddle.

Kalesh spent the next three minutes going in circles in the water, trying to figure out how the infernal thing worked. Soon though the muscle memory started to flow back and he was paddling along through the water at a decent pace. He wasn't about to enter any races, so he was fine to just be moving along at a decently slow pace. He slowly paddled through the water happily, enjoying the hot humid air, taking a deep inhale of the air as he looked to his rod and said. "Well, let's start fishing for some bait for now... No point in fishing without it." he thinks aloud while lifting up his rod which had been settled on the boat with his Tricking Clover attached beneath it. He threw the line out into the calm waters beneath his boat and around the town, smiling as he started to lean back in his boat and stare up at the sky as he took a little nap until something would bite.

It was just going to be a nice lazy day of fishing, no cares about the boss battle approaching, his desire to hunt a dragon and feast upon its flesh, or anything silly like that. Today he was just going to nap, rest, and regenerate away from the stressful thing he would regularly expose himself to. He was happy to let the other players explore and fight for at least one day! Even if his line didn't attract much by way of smaller fish he could use for bait, he was more than happy to just relax in his boat as it gently floated along. He heard players over in the actual wooden part of the village talking, chuckling as he realized he wasn't the only one who thought the idea of coming to this floor might be a good one, though not many would do so for the same reason as him he figured.

"No, it's true!" He heard one voice say "There is a water wyvern in the water, it has lightning powers too! I saw it with my own eyes!" Kalesh's interest turned to the player's conversation, not even caring that he was missing his chance to hook some bait in doing so. "Yeah right, shows what you know. Did it have two legs and two wings? No? Then it's a leviathan or a serpent, not a wyvern you uncultured swine!" Kalesh couldn't help but snicker at though, the player was right. Even by monster hunter standards that wasn't correct. He didn't know who would call a water creature without huge wing-like fins a wyvern, but he didn't think he should ask, just minding his own business while listening to the business of others.

"Okay, look, we can't all be fantasy nerds, some of us didn't log seven hundred hours into monster hunter. The fact is, there is a water creature shooting lightning all over the place." Kalesh had to admit to himself that sounded pretty interesting and a lethal combo. Years of Monster Hunter know-how flowing into his mind as he suddenly gasps and tugs his rod, lifting it up out of the water to reveal a tiny fish he could use for bait, just like expected! He taps the fish and it enters his inventory. He tosses his line back out into the water as he starts to listen again. "Well, if we are talking wyverns, they say the floor boss is a crocodile with wings-" "THAT'S A DRAGON YOU IDIOT." he hears them argue as they start to move to another part of the village, leaving Kalesh laughing to himself in his boat.

Kalesh smiled as the area grew silent again, giving him some time to just shut his eyes and enjoy the sounds of nature. The water, the birds in the trees, the soft roars of the monsters in the distance likely tearing a player such as himself limb from limb before finally consuming them like some kind of psychopathic murderer that was turned from a metaphorical monster into a very literal one. He momentarily stopped to wonder if players who died were turned into monsters. "Bah, that's too stupid." Says Kalesh while shooing the thought from his mind. He had a little more faith in Kayaba than that. If the guy could make a world like this so well, he'd need a touch more creativity than something so obvious.

Kalesh sat there for a nice long while as he let the ambient sounds and the insane thoughts that constantly crossed his mind do their things, taking a deep relaxed breath as he started to sit himself up, looking around before concluding he would try fishing again in another area. He lets go of his rod and grabs his paddle instead, starting to propel himself towards any other section of the water where the fish may have been more plentiful. His current spot was nice and relaxing, but it wasn't giving him a lot in the form of items he could put to use later on. He needed lots of stuff to use later on since he was going to be alive for a nice while to come he figured. Well, that is what most people figured, but he was going to be correct about it.

He had made almost a quarter rotation around the town before he stopped rowing and let the water just rest with him. He plopped back wards and let the boat rock a bit before he tosses his line into the water. He didn't catch anything immediately, which was a little disappointing, but the area was quiet and tranquil aside from the occasional pest he had to swat away. Life was pretty good all things considered if you asked him. Not the player, well, yes the player, he kicked Kalesh's butt, but the concept of life. Lower-case L. He got distracted, sidetracking himself for a little while there as his boat floated slowly along harmlessly.

Kalesh hummed in thought as he floated around the water with his line waiting for the bite of a fish, passing the time in thought as he starts going through menus with a spare hand. Soon his sword was in his hand, still in its saya as he looked it over in consideration. He wondered idly if he should keep this weapon, it wasn't exactly a true fit for his style. In a way, it was a vanity skill. "God damnit I'm imulsive..." He says before returning the blade to his inventory. "Let's see... Greatswords were too much of a hassle... Only using one hand seems wasteful... A shield feels cowardly... What should I use?" He sighs as he rests his forearm over his eyes to block the sun which shone down on him from the sky. He was still considering the options laid out for him.

Suddenly, it felt so obvious as he lifted his arm higher, looking at his hand with a slow but rather steady smirk. "Ahh... Now I understand..." He grinned widely as he closed his hand into a fist. "If weapons are too much trouble, I'll just use my fists! Beat those giants and dragons down with my own hands!..." He let out a deep sigh. "-Is what I'd say if Martial Arts was that impressive..." He groaned as he slumped back, feeling a familiar tingle "Oh no..." He idly said before feeling a sudden surge of sensation, like his nerves were filled with electricity! He could practically feel his character corrupting and readjusting itself before he said "Damnit Kayaba! Fix your game!" He groaned, that's twice now that his character has had this glitch. He checked again, and yep, his weapon skills had utterly reset themselves. "... More reason not to go out of town I suppose." He sighed, the distraction keeping him from catching anything if it bit down in the first place.

Before Kalesh could work up a big enough rage to start screaming at the sky any more than he already had, he felt a tug on his line which was eagerly met with a pull from Kalesh! He had terrible catching fish as it was, he didn't want to let this one get away! With a bright grin glued to his face he pulled up another tiny fish that would look perfect on the line another time to catch himself a larger fish. With that exact thought in mind he put the fish into his inventory as a sacrifice for later. He would worry about proper fishing later, today was just a day to relax and think... while catching some stray baits too, but that was a secondary objective. With a deep breath he threw the line back into the water and relaxed back into the boat which rocked slightly from the movements.

Having a moment of calm with no fish biting, he started to shut his eyes for a momentary nap... Until he heard a notification noise. "Hm?" he voiced absentmindedly as he opened his eyes again and started to open his messages. It seemed to be an update notification from an admin. "... I know I told you to fix your game but that was fast..." He snickered at his own sense of humor and opened the message up to start reading, curiously mouthing random words to himself that he liked before closing his menus and opening up his skills to confirm the words. "... Well, I'll be damned... That's... actually really convenient." He grinned, beginning to wonder if the glitches were intentional or not. Regardless, he had something to put his skills into. "Looks like I can use my own hands..." He brings his hands into a claw-like position "... To tear my foes apart." He laughed at the idea of it all, sure there would be some amazing synergy with martial arts if used right!

He smiled at the thought of using claw weapons, swiftly memorizing characters who used claws or claw-style weapons. He wasn't thinking characters like Voldo or Sora from .hack, but more like Inuyasha before he started using a sword for everything and anything. He was thinking an awesome gauntlet with pointed claw fingers would be more his style, really get the feeling of tearing your foes apart with your own hands. That was the plan at least, and his planning was soon cut off by the sensation of a tug on his line. He smiled as he once again reeled the tiny fish in and threw it into his inventory so to speak. The day was passing decently quick and he wasn't having the best of luck, but he was leaving with a profit and that was aaaaall that mattered in his rather simple mind.

Almost as fast as his line hit the water he felt a bite, a laugh of pure joy passing his lips as he pulled and retrieved yet another fish for his bait collection. All said and done he was happy his luck was improving a touch at least, not that he was going to regret coming here anyways. It was an interesting enough floor idea in his mind so he was more than happy to visit this floor and explore. Well, as long as nothing tried to kill him, he was confident he could take a hit or two but not that he would come out on top in his current state. It would be a touch more likely that he would explode on contact with anything on this floor than actually kill something intentionally. With all that said and done he stretched his shoulders out and glanced around at the horizons around him. It didn't seem like something was lurking in the waters of the safe area thankfully, and it seemed the safe area extended out a bit from the actual village and into the water. Probably a good thing for reasons of being in a boat like himself.

With his line in the water again he sighs happily after reassuring himself he was safe and laying back in the boat with his rod in hand, holding it tightly while waiting to give it a nice strong pulling when the moment was right. For the moment though, he was considering his potential options. He has two sword, a perfect and a rare. He could always buy a VIP voucher he thought to himself, pretty sure he could just make the sword into a decent set of claws to his specifications. Waste not want not and all that jazz, besides, how many people truly used curved swords? He chuckled to himself as he shakes his head, blinking when he felt a pull and happily giving his rod a good tugging which revealed a fish on the hook which joined its brethren in the all-consuming pit that was his inventory.

With his line, once again, being thrown into the water he smiled and enjoyed his lazy nappy day. Sometimes it was nice to just have lazy days and just noooot care if people thought you looked boring. Everything's about perspective when it comes to such things. He was just happy to have the water to himself rather than having to compete with, like, five people also trying to catch bait or actual fish. That would be a major pain without a doubt in his mind, both for his relaxation and for his actual progress with fishing itself. As if on cue that was when he gained sixth fish in a short time span, laughing at his sudden burst of luck. As usual, he was glad he was not the type to just give up quietly. Luck is a fickle mistress, but she is the best when she is good.

Having a short break from the flurry of fish he had just gotten he enjoyed a brief break to enjoy the ambient noise once again as he shut his eyes, smiling in bliss as his boat lazily floated into a sunbeam, giving him a nice warm feeling all over his body while he enjoyed the finer things in life. Namely being a lazy guy and just flopping into a comfortable position without worry of a player suddenly descending upon him or other such paranoias. Even if it did happen, the worst that would happen right now is him simply getting a touch on the wet side. If things really got serious he would make use of his favorite crystal to teleport out of the water or his boat and somewhere safe instead. Preparedness was a handy helper when fending off fear and paranoia in his mind. He could take a touch more risks than he would otherwise because of it!

He was starting to notice that it was getting later and later, a sigh going through him as he kept his rod tucked between his legs as he grabs up the two sided paddle, working his way back to shore while his line waited in the water. Either the movement would prevent him from catching something, or it would attract the fish, either way he didn't want the boat despawning on him. That was one surefire way to ruin a day of lazy nappiness. A sudden wet wake up call was normally the worst kind if you don't see it coming or request it beforehand. He did manage to chuckle a little though at the idea though of it happening to someone else, it was mostly if it happened to him it would be something he would not enjoy.

When Kalesh finally made it to land he spent pretty much no time jumping out of the boat and reeling his line in, raising a brow at the strange weight he was feeling as he lured in. He hadn't felt any pulling so he couldn't have had a fish. In time he surfaced the source, a tackle box of sorts it seemed, the hook being caught in the handle! Kalesh laughed at his luck, sure he could open this up later and have a nice little collection to add to his own pile of bait fish. It certainly would not hurt in any way shape or form to have more of these sorts of things. It is far better to have too many opposed to too little in his mind and world view. There were exceptions obviously, but he kept it as a general rule for most things. A lack of supply kills much faster than an over abundance most of the time.
