[F5-SP] You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy <<The Traveler>>

((OOC: Fourth time's the charm))

"So you lost what out in the desert?"

The woman in front of him, clad in ragged robes that covered most of her body and face. Any clothes that seemed to peek out from under the hood and robes were red and almost gypsy-like. In a breaking tone, she pleaded to the irishman. "Medicine. My family and I were traveling through the desert to get here.. when we were hit by a sandstorm. It must have fallen off of the wagon we were using to carry our supplies. Please. My daughter needs that medicine to survive.. I'm begging you." she spoke in a thick, but understandable, spanish accent as she placed a desperate hand on Jomei's chest.

"Alright." he nodded "I'll go find the supplies you need. Just wait here in town for me to get back."

"Thank you. Thank you! I am afraid.. however.. that.. the medicine will probably be going bad, out in the heat like that.. You may only have two days at the most before it is useless.."

Jomei took a deep breath and nodded, "Alright. Guess I'll just have to hurry then." He began to walk towards the outskirts of the town when he opened up his menu. He equipped his leather armor and Summerthorn, which took its place on his belt. He then grabbed at the hood on his cloak and pulled it over his head to shield himself from the oncoming sandstorm.

As Jomei entered the large dust cloud in front of him, the hot winds carrying grains of sand began to smack him in the face, causing his cloak to whip behind him. On his shoulder, Jomei felt the claws of his owl companion digging into the leather armor, trying to stand her ground. With her powerful talons and wings, the owl was barely able to keep her position without flying off of Jomei's shoulder. "If you want to wait back in town for me where its safer for you, you can." Jomei shouted over to the owl, but she shook her head and lowered her body to take in less of the wind. Jomei smirked, Adere had always been there to help out Jomei no matter what the situation.

Judging by how far out the woman and her family traveled to get to Armadillo, there was a possibility he would have to find a place to set up camp in a couple of hours. If he had known he would be taking this quest earlier, he would have gone back to his shop and packed accordingly. However, he had cleared out his inventory into a chest in his shop.. so he only had the necessities on him. Usually, he would kill the time playing his lute.. but he felt that would be a little tough in the situation he was in right now. The most he could do for now was maybe find some sort of inspiration for a song.. but again, there was not much more he could see than sand everywhere.

He remembered the last time he was out here in the Fifth Floor desert with Zandra. The two were in search of a cave Zandra found and did not was to explore on her own, so she asked Jomei to accompany her. He smiled at the thought of that day, despite ending not as happily as it could have. However, this situation reminded him slightly more of the time he went with Meokka to find and defeat the Cerberus, though if he remembered correctly.. it was a much longer trip, much hotter, but there was no sandstorm.. just the heat of the Cerberus' lair that could have caused them harm. He began to feel some remorse when his mind continued to think about that day, and how Ssendom had come to their aide.. but Meokka disappeared just before encountering the field boss. He could only imagine the pain Dom felt. He let out a sigh, knowing he was once in a similar situation.. but he knew those two were much closer.

The irishman could not tell what sand was on the ground and what sand was flying through the air at this point, he was completely blinded by the storm. The man nearly stumbled when his foot met ground that was slightly elevated than the rest. He had managed to walk straight into a large sand dune. Digging his feet into the sand, he walked up the steep hill, trying to keep his footing and not let the sand knock him off of his feet, or it would be a long tumble down the hill. He let out a sigh of relief as he felt the ground begin to level out at the top of the hill. Traveling down the hill may prove to be just as much of a challenge.

The man slowly began his descent down the dune, again trying to keep himself from slipping from sand smacking into his face. As Jomei walked down, he felt large amounts of sand sifting past his ankles, faster than he was walking.. almost as if something was causing the sand to pour down from the top of the dune. Turning around to look back up the hill, Jomei saw a large hulking figure emerging from the sand. He could not see much, only the silhouette of the creature, and piercing red eyes through dusty cloud. Large wings opened up on the sides as the creature seemed to stand up and lower its body, prepared to run. "[censored]!" Jomei shouted as he turned forward again, sprinting down the side of the dune. He began to hear the sound of pounding footsteps as the monster charged down the side of the hill towards Jomei. Trying to turn and get a look at just how close the enemy was to him, and the winds from the sandstorm, caused Jomei to lose his footing and stumble. His body hit the sand and rolled, tumbling down the remainder of the hill. As Jomei stopped rolling, he pushed himself up with a grunt. As he stood up and looked back towards the sand dune, the large figure had reached his position, and he was now able to get a better look at it. It had the body of a lion, but quite larger than the regular size of the feline. On its back were two large eagle like wings, angled backwards as it took a hunting stance. It was a Sphinx, which was quite fitting for a mob to fight in the desert as such.

The irishman grit his teeth and quickly pulled his hood back over his head, then throwing his arm across his body to draw his rapier from its sheathe. This would prove to be a difficult fight under these conditions, and he imagined the sphinx would be able to deal with the sandstorm and spot Jomei without issues. "Adere, I know the sandstorm is gonna make things tough.. but I'm really gonna need your help with keeping tabs on this guy. Think you can do it?" The owl lowered its body and propelled itself into the air, struggling at first with the strong winds, but eventually managing to fly forward towards their enemy. Jomei pushed off of the sand behind him and ran forward, his body lowered to the ground and he held his rapier arm back and at the ready. As Jomei got into striking range, he thrusted his sword forward. The Sphinx then shot a gust of air forward with its large wings to move itself backwards and out of the line of danger.

As the Sphinx launched itself backwards, Jomei activated his <Sprint> skill to close the distance as quickly as possible between them to it would not have the chance to dodge his attack again. The irishman let out a yell as he jumped upwards and forwards to catch the Sphinx, swiftly striking the winged lion four times with his rapier. As the two hit the ground, he flipped his sword around and plunged it downwards into its paw. It let out a loud roar, which sounded like a mix between a dragon and a lion. Hopefully the thorn in its paw would keep it from moving as easily next time.

The Sphinx stood up and tried to step forward, the leg with the paw that Jomei had stabbed caving forward from the pain. Jomei smirked and decided to take the opportunity to unleash his strongest attack upon the enemy without having to deal with being countered. Jogging forward through the sand,he held his sword across his body. Once  he was arms length from the snarling beast, he let his sword whip across its face. He then brought the sword above his head, and back down the length of its head. He continued this for another few strikes, leaving a red and white cross shaped gash on its face.

Just after Jomei's last strike hit the Sphinx, it swiped its large, injured paw at Jomei, leaving a large scratch across his chest. He stumbled backwards, throwing his free hand to his chest, clenching at it. His armor took most of the strike, but it still took a bit out of his HP bar. The Sphinx was now able to stand on all four feet again, which meant he was back at full force. Jomei needed to end this battle quickly, he felt his energy running out and would need to rest soon. Spinning his sword in his hand, his rapier began to glow a gold hue. He then pierced his sword forward, the tip of the blade connecting with the lion's chest. Another four gold light spears pierced through the lion, simultaneous to his own blade. The force caused the Sphinx to skid back in the sand, snarling at the pain.

Jomei's body slight slouched over, breathing heavy. His energy was running low, and he felt his body giving up on him. He would be in serious trouble if his energy hit zero before this fight was over. The Sphinx's health bar was close to a quarter left, and with its stone-like skin, none of Jomei's attacks would be enough to take it out in one hit. A loud roar from the lion took him away from his thoughts as the Sphinx lunged towards him with its claws out. He quickly dove out of the way, barely dodging his enemy's attacks and hitting the ground hard. He pulled his body further away and picked himself up off the ground, trying to catch his breath.

As Jomei struggled to get to his feet, he felt the sharp claws of the Sphinx dig into his leg. After being dragged through the sand closer to it and being flipped over, the beast clamped its jowls onto Jomei's shoulder. The man could feel the teeth sinking into his body, almost feeling the pain that was not there. Upon trying to lift the lion creature off of his body, he found it was too heavy for him to move, for it was actually made of sandstone rather than flesh. Grabbing his rapier in his hand, he thrusted the blade into the side of the beast, causing to to roar in pain, giving Jomei a chance to slip out from its grasp.

The man quickly pushed himself off of the ground once he was free from the Sphinx's grasp and spun around to face it. Jomei needed to end this now, or his energy depleting to zero before hand would cause his attacks to greatly weaken, and possibly become dinner for this beast. As he dug his back foot into the sand, he charged up his Crucifixion skill once again. Jomei then unleashed a barrage of cuts into the Sphinx's body while letting out a yell. The beast roared in pain as his attack continued, and eventually burst into data fragments. Jomei stood there, breathing heavily, red gashes on his chest, and large bite marks on his shoulder. His eyes hidden in the shadow of his bangs. He tapped the accept button on the reward screen that popped up in front of him, and placed his sword back in its sheath.

The man silently turned from the scene of the battle, replacing his hood on his head, and tugging on the brim of his collar to block the oncoming sand from entering his mouth or nose. The worn out player slowly walked through the sand, in search of some sort of shelter to make stay for the night. The still raging sandstorm proved that to be difficult, however, as he could not see his own hand in front of him. His eyelids felt magnetized to each other as he struggled to keep them open, and he found himself stumbling over his own two feet as he attempted to walk. He would not give in to exhaustion though, for if he slept out in the desert alone at night, something could easily sneak up on him and end his life. He continued the desperate search for something he did not even know existed.

He continued to push himself forward, forcing his body to exceed his current limits in the storm. Normally, he would have been able to make this trip without any problems. However, he exerted himself too much during that last fight.. and now he was fighting with exhaustion taking over. The man scanned the area in front of him for any sort of cave, or even just a large rock he could use to shield himself. Nothing. Still nothing he could use to protect himself. He felt his legs give out from under him, as his body crashed into the sand below, losing the battle with exhaustion.

The man's eyes slowly opened to the sun of a new day. Upon collapsing in the sand the evening before, Jomei had made that place his bed. Where it felt far from the most comforting of places to sleep, he woke up feeling much better than he had the day before. He pushed himself up off of the ground, letting the piles of sand slide off of his body and to the ground. The man let out a light groan as he looked around, to see a similar situation to what he had fallen asleep to; a sandstorm blowing in every direction. He felt something on his back under his cloak as he moved to a sitting position, to see it was Adere, who had taken shelter in the safety of Jomei's green cape during the night. "Happy to see you're okay at least." he said with a chuckle, "We should keep going.. I want to get out of here as soon as possible.."

Back on the dusty road, Jomei pulled up his hood once again, moving quickly through the desert so he could find where this medicine was. There were a couple of moments during his trip that he believed he may have lost his position, and was walking in the wrong direction.. or even walking in circles the entire time. Hell, he did not even have a certain location of where these supplies would even be located.. only a general area, judging by the coordinates given to him on the map. He let out a sigh as he continued to walk forward in hopes that he was, in fact, on track with this quest.

Jomei stopped in his step and lifted his hand, opening up his menu. Using both of his hands, he he opened up his map of the surrounding area, as well as the current quest information along side it. The man let out a heavy sigh when he realized he had been walking in the wrong direction away from the area where he would find the supplies. Judging by his location, if he simply changed direction and walked northeast, he should be back in the quest radius. Closing his menu, he turned around and trekked forward through the sand.

Now back in the zone indicating the area the box of medicine could be, Jomei began his careful search around the area. He slowly walked through the sand, scanning the ground for anything out of the ordinary. Squinting his eyes, he spotted something jutting out of the ground off in the distance. Picking up his pace, he pushed through the storm and came upon a wooden chest, half of it submerged in the sand. Grabbing one of the handles, the irishman pulled the box out of the ground so he would be able to place it into his inventory. However, the system would not allow him to do so.. which struck him as odd. It seemed as thought he would need to place the contents of the chest directly into his inventory and bring them back that way.

Jomei reached down and unlatched the front of the chest with a click, he then opened the box to reveal what was inside. As he did so, the box seemed set off some sort of a black smoke bomb, engulfing Jomei not only in the already present sand, but a thick fog that completely cut off his visibility. As he stood there coughing, he heard the sounds of something else emerging from the sands around him, causing him to quickly grab onto the handle of his rapier. As the smoke settled, Jomei noticed two figured standing around him. The two seemed to be wearing similar clothing, but one looking slightly more familiar than the other. The one Jomei recognized was a female, and he recognized her as the woman who had asked Jomei to venture out into the desert in the first place. Jomei's face stiffened from under his hood as he glared at the woman, "What the hell is going on?"

"A bit slow to catch on, aren't you? There is no medicine. I have no daughter." the woman smirked maliciously, "We're bandits.. and now you're far enough away form civilization so we can kill you and take your stuff without being bothered." The man behind Jomei simply laughed.

Jomei drew his rapier from its sheath and pointed the blade forward at the woman, "Well then. You'll find that I won't let you do that so easily."
