[SP-F6] <<The Gemini>> Brother, What Have I Done To Anger You So? - Complete!

Recommended Posts

Endilix had never been to the sixth floor before. He thought now might have been as good a time as any to explore the area and get acquainted, especially as him and Emerath grew in power and were ready to take on greater challenges. He made his way out of the starter city, after managing to draw himself away from the distractions of the tribal village comprised entirely of women. Just keep thinking of Flints. Just keep thinking of Flints. Just keep thinking of Flints... he mentally chanted to himself as he made his way to the edge of the village, and out into the jungle. He sighed as he made it out, and he pushed himself through some of the growth that comprised this wild floor. He felt like he stuck out like a sore thumb, clad in medieval style armor in a jungle, but he shrugged as he made his way.

Endilix had been making decent progress into the dense forest as he listened to the sounds of the wilderness around him. He wasn't particularly interested in combat, at least not without backup, so he was hoping to avoid any of the animals taking note of him. Occasionally, he would pull out his hammer, and use the heavy weapon to clear away some of the dense growth as he crunched his way through the jungle. And then he heard a noise behind him, and he whirled around. The area was shadowy from the dense canopy above him, but he thought he saw a shadow of a person, as it peered out from behind a tree. Endilix squinted, and said, "Hello? Who's there?" The shadow spoke simply as it said, "I'd like to duel you. I promise that you will be well rewarded. I am of your level, and of your experience. It shall be a fun challenge, what do you say?"

Endilix was confused by the request, but he supposed that if it was just a friendly duel, it wouldn't hurt to test his skills against someone. Endilix watched as a prompt popped up in front of him and he accepted. The duel notification popped up and Endilix looked at it to see that... this was a duel to the death? "Hey, what is this? You said this was a friendly duel!" The shadowy figure simply stepped out of the shadows, and into the light. The person looked... exactly like Endilix, down to the armor, the hammer, and everything. Endilix frowned. "What kind of a joke is this? Emerath, did you go through all this trouble to get items made that look like mine for some sort of practical joke? And what's with this duel to the death? I won't fight you brother!"

Endilix stared down his opponent as the duel timer counted down. He had begrudgingly pulled out his hammer and shield as he watched his opponent do the same, a smile on his face. Endilix shook his head, he couldn't believe what he had gotten into, and Endilix wasn't sure if there was a way to break off a duel with an opponent. "Emerath... what have you done? This isn't just a practical joke. One of us can actually die here!" Endilix shouted at the man he thought was his twin brother, as duel timer finally dinged and the duel officially began. Endilix's opponent wasted no time, as he leapt forward. Endilix easily pushed the strike to the side with his shield, preventing any damage, as he threw a swing in response, but his opponent was too fast, as he knocked the blow away with his own shield. Endilix grunted as he stepped back and readied for another attack.

Endilix was wary about his combatant, as well as this combat. He didn't want to kill his brother, and he didn't want his brother to kill him. He continued to rack his brain for a way to end a duel, for any way to do so without it resulting in death, but he was jarred from his thoughts as his opponent's hammer was driven firmly into his stomach. His armor absorbed the impact, and his health only moved marginally, but it shook him from his thoughts nonetheless. Endilix growled and his hammer began to glow as he said, "Fine then, if you won't listen to words, perhaps I can knock some sense into you!" He slammed his glowing hammer into the chin of his combatant and they went flying through the air like a sack of potatoes and hit the ground a good distance away. Endilix huffed as he watched the HP bar of his opponent drop quite a ways as he said, "I'm sorry Emerath, but you need to listen. This isn't a joke!"

Endilix held his shield up as his opponent stood up. He isn't speaking. This is usually the part where Emerath says something witty about how hard I hit him or something like that. Endilix thought to himself as his opponent readied his hammer for another strike. Endilix met him full force, and their hammers and shields clashed as they practically bounced off of each other. Endilix huffed again as he shouted at his opponent, "C'mon Emerath! What has gotten into you?! Have you been possessed by something? Is there some sort of a debuff in the game that is making you act like this? Speak to me!"

Endilix was frustrated by the fact that his brother wouldn't speak to him. He was frustrated with the way his brother was acting. He was even more frustrated with the length that his brother had gone to to set up this entirely far too elaborate trick, and he was hopeful that if he beat him into submission he'd just give up. Endilix's opponent suddenly made another attack, and Endilix used the rage fueling him to push the attack back with his shield, shoving his opponent backwards into a nearby tree, before slamming his glowing hammer into his head, launching him sliding up the trunk of the tree into a low hanging branch as his HP bar dropped again. Endilix took a step back, his shield at the ready as he said, "Just give up already! Give up on this farce!"

Endilix stood waiting for his opponent leaning against the tree to recover, as he said, "Emerath. This isn't funny. This wasn't funny to begin with! Talk to me and snap out of whatever has a hold of you!" His opponent on the ground simply smiled as he looked up at him and smiled, and Endilix gave a roar. "DAMN YOU!" he shouted as he shoved his boot hard into the chest of his opponent and sent his hammer hard across his face, in a blow that in real life would have most likely knocked out most of his teeth. Endilix was tired of this. He didn't want to kill his brother, and if that meant he had to hold him down and beat him within an inch of his life, he was about to do it.

Endilix had readied his hammer for another blow, his boot still firmly planted against the chest of his opponent, before the man on the ground finally sprang to life. He swung the hammer against Endilix's knee, and then when Endilix was off balance, his opponent jumped to his feet and slammed his shield into Endilix's back, driving him away. Endilix grunted from the blows, as his HP decreased again slightly. Endilix spun around to see a smile on his opponent's face once again, and he growled, "You don't know when to give up, do you? You always were bad about that, brother. You might want to be more careful, you're getting a bit low on health there." His opponent simply smiled in response.

Endilix growned, and his opponent smiled, as they stared at each other in the small, dim clearing where they had been fighting. Endilix knew he was getting close to winning this, but his opponent was not making it easy to actually achieve the victory. He supposed that was the nature of Emerath, and whatever was driving him must have given him the strength to keep pushing on. Either that or it was just Emerath's natural inability to know when to give up. Endilix gave a roar as he rushed at his opponent, and his opponent did the same. They clashed in a flurry of hammer blows and shield blocks, each striking with fluidity that was just as easily blocked by each opponent, before Endilix's opponent finally gained the upper hand and hit Endilix with a solid hammer blow to the head when he couldn't get his shield up in time, driving Endilix back with his ears ringing.

Endilix shook his head from the blow he had been dealt, and took a step back, raising his shield. He had been on the offensive for most of this, but his brother was refusing to give in. It was frustrating to say the least, scary at most, considering he knew his brother had the patience to continuously whittle away at his health so long as he could avoid taking damage. Does he actually intend to kill me, should it ever get that far? Endilix thought to himself, as his opponent roared once again and charged in for another attack. Endilix attempted to side step, but then his opponent suddenly shifted to the side with his attack, swinging backhand. Endilix wasn't able to get his shield up in time as he was hit from a blow to the opposite side he had been anticipating, and went reeling, unable to send a strike of his own.

Endilix wasn't liking that his brother was able to avoid his blows, though he supposed Emerath had watched him fight enough to learn enough about his combat style to counteract it. Endilix huffed and readied his shield and his hammer again. He wasn't about to take anymore abuse. He needed to end this. Endilix's opponent rushed in once again, and he seemed to do so in a frenzy. Endilix managed to get his shield up in time, but the strike rang true and hard against his shield as he felt himself buckle under the power of the blow, and Endilix went to one knee. It still only took one point of damage, but that it could do that even through his shield blew Endilix away. My brother has gotten so strong... to do this, even with a weapon he's not proficient in... Endilix looked past his shield, a bit in awe, before he saw his opportunity. Endilix activated his sword art, as he swung his hammer from the ground, leaping once again to his feet as the blow connected with a solid crack to his opponent's chin. He staggered backwards, his health going into the red. "This is it! Brother, give in! I.... I won't kill you!"

Endilix proved his point about not attacking by holding up his shield to his opponent and going into a fiercely defensive stance. He would've gone so far as to unequip his hammer entirely, but he still had to defend himself with more than his shield. He wouldn't hit him again, he couldn't. Any further damage and it was over for his brother. His brother wasn't taking the hint though, as Endilix's opponent roared, practically to the point that it shook the trees around them. Emerath... what has taken a hold of you... what has made you this way? Endilix held firmly to his shield, awaiting the attack, as his opponent suddenly rushed forward in a flash. Endilix's shield may as well have been a piece of paper, as the hammer came around to swing hard into it. Endilix felt the blow reverberate through his entire body as a huge metallic clanging noise rang throughout the clearing, and before he knew it, Endilix was flying backwards into a nearby tree. He hit it hard, and fell limp against the base of the trunk with a cough. He could still feel his arm ringing where the blow had hit his shield. Endilix shook his head, despite that his HP still only went down another point, he was still in shock from the power he was experiencing.

Endilix tried to recover from the blow, but he was reeling. He certainly had the wind knocked out of him. He felt a boot on his chest, as he found himself in the reverse situation of what he had put his brother in, and he thought the symbolism was fitting. He couldn't help but chuckle as he gave a cough, still trying to get his air back from the strike. He looked up at his opponent, and all his opponent did was smile, as Endilix said, "I suppose this means you aren't going to give up, are you? Brother, why did you have to do this? Why does it have to end like this? What... did this to you...?" Endilix found that he had begun to cry. His tears blurred his vision as he felt the hammer smack hard across his face, sending some of the moisture flying, and Endilix gave another cough, his HP dropping yet another point.

Endilix continued to sit on the ground, staring up at his opponent. The tears were flowing freely now. He couldn't bear the thought of killing his brother. He couldn't lift his hammer and fight anymore. If Emerath killed him, then that was it, but it would take such a long time, and be so painful to experience. But he couldn't do it. He couldn't fight his brother. This seemed to confuse Endilix's opponent. The man took a step back, away from Endilix, and seemed to be waiting for him to stand up again. Endilix blinked away some of the moisture to try to clear his vision as he looked at him. Then Endilix chuckled, "Well, I suppose you always were honorable, brother. Don't do this. Don't make me fight you." But Endilix's opponent didn't move. He just stood there, waiting.

Endilix didn't want to get up and fight. He refused to end this, not like this. But his opponent didn't seem willing to move. At least not so long as Endilix wasn't willing to move. Finally, Endilix wiped his face and grunted, as he pushed himself up against the trunk, using it as leverage to find his footing. He stared at his opponent and said, "Fine... I won't deny you your honor, but don't expect that I'm going to kill you." This just seemed to make him grin. In response Endilix's opponent just swung his hammer at Endilix's head once again, causing Endilix to reel a bit away from the tree, but he made no attempt to block or fight. His health ticked down another point, and Endilix huffed, Why can't he just end it already? Just throw the hammer down and end it, if you want to kill me so badly, brother...

Endilix stood with his back to the tree, as his opponent slowly began to back away. Endilix cocked his head and watched him with interest. Endilix was long past the point of guessing what his brother would do at this point. It was all irrational, in the end. It was something that was going to result in the death of one of them, and Endilix was done fighting it. But maybe, there was a way? Endilix readied his shield. Maybe if I just keep him occupied until the debuff wears off... And so, as Endilix's opponent ran forward, Endilix found himself charging forward with a battle cry of his own. Their hammers clashed hard, the shafts of them locked together mid strike, as sparks and splinters flew between them. Endilix grunted in exertion as he tried to hold against the power of the strike with the power of his own, but now it was just a test of strength. Unfortunately, in matters of that Endilix couldn't have honestly told you which of the brothers would prove to be the stronger.

Endilix's feet began to slide in the dirt, as he was pushed back, and he saw that the same was happening to his opponent. Finally, everything seemed to give, all at once. Suddenly, both hammers slipped away from each other, causing each strike to land on each other. Time seemed to slow down, as Endilix watched his hammer smash into his opponent's skull, and Endilix was knocked for a loop as his opponent's hammer did the same to him. Endilix staggered, and fell to his knees from the blow, as he turned and looked back in horror at the remainder of the scene playing out before him. The power of Endilix's strike slowly drained the remainder of his opponent's HP bar. His opponent looked absolutely stunned, as he stared at Endilix with wide eyed horror of his own, before finally, exploding into a shower of pixels.

The Duel End notification hung in the sky, signaling that Endilix was the winner. All of that was a blur though, as Endilix leapt to his feet, attempting to catch all of the pixels, but they disappeared in his hands. "No, no... NO NO NO!" Endilix shouted, as he went, trying to catch what little remained of his brother. Tears flowed freely down his face again as he dropped his hammer and shield in the dirt and sank back to his knees, his head in his hands. He stared at the ground, before leaning over and putting his hands in the dirt. This can't be happening... I wasn't supposed to hit him... he wasn't supposed to die! Endilix thought back to how only just the day before they had been talking about how they couldn't survive this game alone. How they needed each other. And now Emerath was gone...

Endilix continued to stare at the dirt, as a notification popped up in the corner of his vision. He shook his head, considering who that could be. It's probably Flints, worried about me. He sighed and slowly moved a hand to open the menu to look at the message. I'm going to have to tell her... I'm going to have to tell her that Emerath is... Emerath is... A fresh set of tears began to well up in Endilix's eyes, as his fingers wavered on his menu, before he finally wiped them away and popped open his notifications. But the message wasn't from Flints. Endilix blinked at it, stunned. It was a message from his brother, sent only moments ago. It wasn't a scheduled message, and when he pressed the message, it opened up to say, 'Hey bro! We did such a great job on that last quest, we should go do another one! Why not bring Flints along? It'll be fun!'

Endilix sat on the ground staring at the message for a long time, trying to process what had just happened. None of it made sense. How could he have fought his brother, killed him, and then received a message from him. Slowly, Endilix moved a hand back to his menu, before scrolling to Emerath's name in his friend list, and then popping it open to see that he was, in fact, still alive. He was messing around in his shop, or so it appeared. Endilix just blinked at it for a while, before another window popped up in front of Endilix. He pushed his menu aside to see that it was a Quest Complete! notification. Endilix hadn't remembered accepting a quest, as he poked the notification, and seeing that he had received some rewards and experience for a quest called... <<The Gemini>>. And before he knew it, Endilix was sitting in the middle of a jungle, laughing like a madman.
