[PP-F5] King of Thieves. <<Arabian Nights, Night 1>> (Hydra)

Recommended Posts

Finding himself once more on the 5th floor, Nikodemus grumbled hatefully. "Stupid verdammt sand... It gets EVERYWHERE! I cannot believe I came here once more and the job was a bust... I am getting quite tired of NPC leads turning into naught but wasted time. I need a drink. That merchant said the tavern was around here." Looking around the small street he was on, Nikodemus gazed at the many different shops, inns, restaurants and other places a person could get amenities from. Seeing the Tavern he sought nestled between a Bread shop and a small artisan, Nikodemus smiled and walked into the place. The name was nigh unreadable, having been basically scrubbed from the sign by the constant blowing sand. Once inside, Nikodemus took his ornate metal helmet from his head and hung it from a small loop on his belt. The interior of the tavern was very styled very much like an old tavern from a story set in the ancient middle east. The ceilings were semi-vaulted and curved up into points, The door archways were also curved and rounded as were the windows. Wooden lattices sat upon the windows and blocked sand and dust from inside. The bar of the tavern was set in the back, supported by a large almost pear shaped column on each end, gold crenelations accenting the tops and bottoms and shaped in bands.

To the left of the wooden bar was a set of wooden steps that lead to an upper balcony where a few tables sat beside hand railings. Behind them a few feet were crude doors made of wood. Here rooms were left for those who wished to rent them for the night, though most renters checked out within an hour or two. The tables and chairs were rough wooden affairs, made of some type of balsam or fir tree that would have been an export in the real world. Wine and ale were served in leather jack flagons or rough tin cups with dings and dents in them, made more by the owner to prevent giving people to much wine than those who crafted them. Behind the wooden bar, a large corpulent man of middling years sat rubbing at the wood of the bar with a dirty rag.

Approaching, Nikodemus dropped a couple Col on the counter and ordered a small leather jack of ale. Taking it, he began heading for a seat when he noticed a man sitting alone in a corner table, his eyes downcast and full of sorrow. The man took long deep gulps from his cup of strong ale and would always keep his eyes within his mug as he did, never looking about. With curiosity, Nikodemus ventured over and sat across from the man and took a sip of his drink before starting up a conversation.

"What sorrow befalls you friend? You drink as if you've lost all you own." Nikodemus took another drink from his leather jack and then looked at the man with curious eyes. The young man let a long sigh out and then took a large gulp from his drink again and then looked directly into the armored giants icy blue eyes. "My name is Ali and I drink my sorrows away yes. You see, a night past I came upon a wonderous cave. I had followed tracks far into the desert that lead there, and upon cresting a dune, I saw a the cave opened. Upon entering, I found the treasure of ten kings within. Bars of gold and jewels so numerous and glittering, they could rival the stars in the sky." With that, he paused and took another long drink. Taking the moment as an opportunity, Nikodemus pressed on. "Why then are you drinking in sorrow and not in joyous revelry at the fortune you have?" Taking a drink himself, Nikodemus listened to the tale the man began to weave.

"I drink so because when I returned to the cave with my brother, we did not realize it was the den of vile thieves. We approached the place where the cave was and found it sealed by sheer rock. I had stood pushing against it, and my brother Cassim began to climb a sand dune on his way back here, when he shouted. As I turned, I saw him get clubbed by a sword hilt. I leapt into cover behind an outcrop of rock covered in weedy reeds. The thieves came over the dune with Cassim tied and gagged. They approached the cliff face and their leader spread his hands. And then, it all began with a couple words and... Oh..." Looking away and sighing, the young man muttered beneath his breath about being too drunk and needing to watch his tongue better.

Hearing the tale to it's abrupt end, Nikodemus felt a range of emotions and thoughts run through him. His first thought was that the tale was mostly dreamt from the fumes of ale and wine the man had been inhaling, but the second thought was that he may be telling the truth and Nikodemus was elated with the thought of a trove of treasure and the chance to find it himself. Deciding to press the man, Nikodemus raised a gloved hand and snapped his claw-tipped armored fingers together and summoned the barkeeper. The corpulent man moved with a speed that no other would have believed him capable of had they not seen it. Pressing some Col into his hand, Nikodemus ordered a flagon of Ale be brought to the table. The young man turned his head and looked the armored giant up and down, then smiled sightly. Nodding, he began to speak once more. "Listen, stranger. I have a task for you, if you would do it."

When the tavern keeper returned, set a thick clay jug of ale before the pair and walked off. With the corpulent man gone, Nikodemus lowered his voice and spoke. "If it involves this fabled cave, then I will do it. But tell me everything." With that, Nikodemus took a drink from his leather jack and awaited the tale. The thin man smirked and gestured at the jug. "Leave me the jug, and I will tell you everything." Nikodemus nodded and waved a hand. With that, the thin man began to speak again. "Ok, I will give you the location of the cave and the secret words to open it, as without it the thieves will have it barriered up with an enchantment. The only thing I ask in return, aside from the ale, is save my brother. Enter the cave, take what you want if you wish, but return with my brother."

Listening, Nikodemus nodded softly then spoke once more. "Ok. I will do this. For the information, I will bring your brother back, an I can. There is the possibility the thieves may have murdered him. Are you prepared for that possibility?" Nikodemus' demeanor had changed to one of a hard and calculating look. Ali looked to Nikodemus and nodded, speaking quietly. "If he has perished at their hands, then there is naught you can do. But if he lives, bring him home." Nikodemus gazed into the depths of the mans eyes, seeing he spoke the truth After nodding his head once more in agreement, a small screen popped before him and Nikodemus smiled. The <<Quest Accept>> screen showed the option to <Accept> or <Deny>. Tapping his finger on the <Accept> button, Nikodemus then stood up and equipped his helmet once again and walked out of the tavern.

Col spent in tavern:

-70 Col for one glass and one jug of ale.

Having exited the the tavern, Nikodemus glanced around then looked at his map. After having accepted the quest, an update popped into his HUD and he had a marker and coordinates to a point far out into the desert. With a roll of his shoulders, he began walking through the town of Armadillo and reached the town gates within a matter of minutes. Standing there, he opened his inventory and took a small potion from it. Taking the cork from the vial he poured the liquid into his mouth and drank it. The liquid tasted fine, and he had no real need to drink it, but preferred it that way as he enjoyed experiencing the world to it's fullest. After consuming the potion he drank one more and then equipped his axe and shield and prepared to venture into the desert. Stepping through the safezone barrier, he made his way along the sandy trail that wound across the floor. his thick armored boots sunk occasionally in the thick sand. With a grumble he plodded onwards. He checked his map occasionally and muttered about hating sand once more.

Moving along the trail, he came to a point where he had to turn off into the desert. Glaring at the sand before him, he muttered to himself and began heading across the dunes. "If that lanky verdammt drunk lied and I am walking off to no where, or into a trap, then I will hunt him down and pull his spine through his mouth." Nikodemus growled angrily. As he moved on, he looked about for signs of life. At first he saw nothing, but then his eye caught sight of a small track in the sand. A footprint, smaller than his but still left unmolested by the blowing wind, showed faintly. Examining it, he decided that he would continue on. Standing to his full height, he equipped his axe and began moving forward once more. His eyes darted about and kept scanning across rocks, bushes, and other bits of terrain that anything could hide behind. Seeing nothing, he continued on and moved over and down sand dunes.

After walking for nearly an hour, Nikodemus found himself standing before a large sheer cliff face. Checking his map and coordinates one last time, he found himself where Ali claimed the cliff to be. Checking the quest info that he gained when accepting it, he saw the words he needed to speak. Standing before the cliff face, he spoke loudly and clearly. "Open Sesame." Waiting there, nothing happened. Cursing with dark thoughts of his retribution against the drunkard, Nikodemus began to turn when he heard the grinding of stone. Looking back to the cliff face, Nikodemus noticed it had begun to fall below the sand as if on a mechanism. Glaring at it, he muttered darkly and then headed through the new opening and into the darkness beyond.

at 5 foot intervals, torches were stuck into grooves in the wall, each burning with a sickly sweet smell of animal fat soaked in the wrappings around the wooden shaft. Moving down the stone corridor, he began to notice the sand thinned out and was replaced by stone that was smoothed by the wear and tear of shoes clattering along it many times. As he crept along, he began to notice signs of struggles along the corridor. Here a jut of sharp rock was covered with a small strip of tan cloth from a tunic. there a drop of blood stained the floor and was dry, but still fresh. Along the wall, the sighs of feet kicking against the stone and scuffing it could be seen, tiny rocks and bits of debris lining the cracks where the wall and the floor met.

As he rounded a corner, Nikodemus found himself in a large central room that was rounded and carved from the rock. All around, the room was piled high with large mounds of treasure. Coins and bars of gold and silver lay in scattered about, goblets, scepters, candle sticks, and more sit piled high about the center of the room. Jewels of every kind dotted the mountains of the treasure, and were as Ali described them. Sitting in one corner of the room, a large square cage made of iron sat beside a pit carved in the stone. The pit was stained red and the scent of rotted meat and iron could be discerned in the air. Within the cage, a tall man with dark black hair and tawny copper skin sat within. At the sight of the armored giant, he stood and shouted, eyes wild with fear. "No! They heard you!" Hearing the mans plea, Nikodemus turned to his right and came face to face with four bandits, their daggers bare in white knuckled grips.

Face to face with the Thieves, Nikodemus did not want to take any chances. Charging forward, he activated his Sword Art <Tomahawk Thrust> and let loose his axe into a spinning boomerang of death. The blade had begun to glow a sickly emerald green as it soared through the air, curving towards the 4 thieves. As it made contact with each one, it struck them, slicing a deep gash, and then moved to the next. After it had hit each one, the axe rebounded back to his hand. As he caught it, he was aware that each thief had moved and begun striking, their blades glowing a pale yellow as they struck at him. With his shield up, he felt the blades slice at him, but his armor held and he was relatively unscathed. His armor's <Thorns> effect activated and sent a pulse of energy into each thief, knocking them back a foot. The final damage done, Nikodemus began to circle the group of theives, preparing to attack once more.

Progressive Story/Quest Series
<<Arabian Nights>>

First Night: “It all began with a couple of words”

This quest takes place on Floor 5
This quest is not repeatable after completion.

RMC8M6Y.png?1

Quest Background:
At dusk, on the fifth floor in a random Tavern located in Armadillo you come across a NPC man named Ali, who drinks his sorrow at a bar. If you engage him in conversation he will start telling an unreal/fantastic story about how he found a secret cave full of gold and wondrous items. If you inquire why he is here drinking alone and sad, instead of partying in some extravagant way, he will tell you that the cave belongs to thieves and that they already captured his brother when the two tried to enter the cave.”It all began with a couple of words” he says on a slip of a tongue quickly getting nervous as he realised what he revealed until now. Then he will ask if you can go and save his brother Cassin that to his knowledge, was captured by the thieves and as a reward he says he will give you a nice sum of money if you bring him back. The coordinates for an ordinary thieves hideout are sent to you. A quest confirmation window shortly follows, appearing in his immediate vicinity, will you accept it?

Route options:

  1. (Hero route) - Save Ali’s brother and safely escort him back to the tavern.
  2. (Killer route) - Kill Ali’s brother for his golden ring that he hid from the bandits, but equips after being freed and become an Orange Player, as Cassin puts all his trust in his rescuers.
  • The thread creator chooses the route in his initial post, the rest of the participants agree with his decission by replying to the thread.
  • Regardless of the chosen route, players still need to kill/bypass all thieves.
  • At the end of the thread before locking, a staff member will roll and post the roll ID. This roll will be used in the later parts of this quest series.

Requirements:

  1. Thread must have at least 1 completed page of roleplaying. (21+ posts).

  2. Must roleplay talking to Ali at the Tavern before you accept the quest from him and after you return to the tavern to claim the rewards, in min. 3 posts. (in total, overall)

  3. Fight against the primary group(s) of thieves, rescue or kill Ali’s brother Cassim (depending on route options), then defeat the secondary group(s) of thieves when you return. (more information below)

  4. Any number of players can be take part in this quest. A party constitutes of 4 players max. If there is more than one party, the bandit number multiplies accordingly:
Total number of bandits = 6*(number of parties)
4(per group)*(number of parties) before freeing Cassim + 2(per group)*(number of parties) on the way back to Ali
Note#1: The secondary party can have between 1 and 4 members, a secondary team can be formed only when there are more than 4 players participating on this quest.

  5. In posts which contain multiple rolls for player and mobs, the roll order is as the following: Player roll -> Thief(s) roll.
Note#2: When more than one player team is present, attack turns are as the following: Player team 1 -> Bandit group 1 -> Player team 2 -> Bandit group 2 / etc.

Quest Mob Information:

             jjAS6MPm.jpg

<<Thief>> - A masked NPC in shady clothing of sand-like color wielding a dagger. Receives its(their) own dice roll!
When rolling for a thief or a group of thieves, make sure to use your own username. If you decide to do one roll for a group, the dice apply to every member of the group.
Example: on a successful hit for 'Tri Pierce' each bandit will use that specific sword art on the player with most hate in the party. In case that 2 or more players have the same highest amount of hate, the thieves will split equally in and attack those players.

Note#3: You CANNOT modify the preset stats for the thieves.
If this quest is taken as a Solo Party, the player can fight the bandits one after another using stealth mechanics. In a PP/OP the thieves spawn in groups.

Note#4: In a PP/OP, a player may attempt to skip fighting the thieves if they have invested at least 1 rank in the 'Sneak and Hide' skill; by applying the stealth mechanics. A player will still need to roll X number of times, one for each mob he/she tries to bypass. A player may try to act as bait for the group, if the thief's LD is higher than the player's 'Stealth Rating', the thief will attack the player (using that same roll dices) without alerting the other thief(s), making it possible to kill the mobs one by one. If a player bypasses any number of the required thieves, he/she can still go back and help the rest of the team; or try to bypass all, then leave the thread and finish the quest. Cassim must still be alive if this mechanic is used in the (Hero route).

Note#4A: If a player gets attacked by a thief while the rest of the team(s) fight, the player needs to fight the thieve alone until the rest finish their own fights. If a player has succeeded in getting past all the thieves, he/she will receive the rewards upon completing the quest, even if the rest of the team fails/dies. In this situation if the player is the only one to live he is allowed to double post until completing the quest.

Stats:

  • Basic Damage: 6 (7 on a natural BD of 9 , 8 on a natural 10 BD of 10)

Available Sword Arts / Conditions (Thief dice):
Bandits don't have an energy bar but they will use sword arts with every successful hit.

  • Side Bite - 2x1*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 1-4]
  • Infinite - 5x1*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 5-8]
  • Tri Pierce - 3x1*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 9-10]
  • Armor Pierce - 1x1*(Basic Damage) & Stun / [On a successful hit, CD roll 11-12, MD roll 1-5]
  • Shadow Stitch - 3x2*(Basic Damage) / [On a successful hit, CD roll 11-12, MD roll 6-10]

Rewards:

  1. (Hero route) - 15,000 Col, 3 SP.
  2. (Killer route) - 15,000 Col, 3 SPCassin's Golden Ring [Tier 1, Unique Trinket]: +2 Loot Die, +1 Sneak and Hide Skill Rank.
  • Cassin's Golden Ring is given only to those that kill him and earn the orange cursor, he has no actual stats so if a group of player should attack and kill him via RP, the whole party would turn orange and be rewarded with the ring. Those who leave the party and don't attack Cassin received neither the ring or gain the orange PK cursor, even if they take part on the Killer route. The item cannot be traded as it's a unique quest reward.
  • The completion of this quest will be a prerequisite for continuing the series.
  • Each route rewards already include the 1 SP and 400 Col rewards for a completed thread (20+ posts).

Quest Ending Description/Dialogue:

  1. (Hero route) - "Brother!!!" will be the first thing Ali shouts at the sight of his kindred, right before rushing to hug the one he thought off as probably dead. After the emotional reunion scene ends, Ali comes to you and places a large pouch filled with Col coins next to you "I can't thank you enough for this. I won't forget what you did for me, please accept this as a small token of my gratitude." he adds with a joyful expression. With one more "Thank you!" he goes to his brother and celebrate his return with opulence. If in any moment you ask him where he has all that money, he will become hesitant and try to avoid the subject, ultimately leaving the tavern/inn with his brother. In the same time, the Quest Ending Window pops in front of you, displaying your hard earned rewards. The col reward could act as potential proof that the 'cave of wonders' he talked about in his drunken state, when you first meet, could be real.

  2. (Killer route) - "I..... I see..." comes a faded response from Ali as his facial expression changes to one of grievance at the sight of only you (and your group) entering the tavern. He gulps the remaining of his drink then orders another one as he listens to what you have to say. At the end he says nothing and after taking a quick glance at you, he leaves. In the same time, the Quest Ending Window pops in front of you, displaying your hard earned rewards. The col reward could act as potential proof that the 'cave of wonders' he talked about in his drunken state, when you first meet, could be real.

Recommended Level: 15-20
Parties or Groups of players are recommended and encouraged.

Credits: Quest concept borrowed from the ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folktales. This quest is based on the "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" tale. It does not follow the story to the letter but has common elements.

"Where'd he go?" The brunette spluttered out, before coughing into his arm as a rogue sandstorm had suddenly surrounded him from nowhere. Hydra had been tailing Nikodemus for hours after catching sight of him acting suspiciously, mysterious in a way. The spearman simply had the intention of checking how he was doing these days but was beginning to regret that decision in the sweltering heat of the sun, and the violent sand. With his free right hand he carefully pulled up his hood, whilst masking his face with his left arm he pushed forward, his friend had been in site just moments ago, approaching a cliff face and had suddenly vanished. Now Hydra was trapped in this mess. "I should be grateful for this survival skill." He grunted behind the cover of his arm.

After pushing forward with all the strength he could muster Hydra broke free from the sand and toppled forward towards the cliff face. Spitting out all the sand from his mouth and washing it out with water the brunette then took a few deep breaths before checking his surroundings. "So that's where you dissapeared to." Not far from where he rested an opening had developed in the cliff face, "This better not be a dungeon, or some player killers guild..." He mumbled sarcastically. Picking himself up he slowly moved towards the opening and peered down, it was mostly just a pitch black darkness but it was the sounds that sent a shiver down Hydra's spine. A distant echo of steel clashing against steel. "Don't worry friend im on my way." He whispered quietly to himself. Hydra opened his inventory and quickly consumed some items for the fight ahead.

Seeing an opportunity to strike, Nikodemus leapt in with his axe whizzing through the air. Growling, he realized too late that the opening was a feint by the Thieves. Seeing the gleam of their blades striking upward toward him. With quick motion, he caught one blade with his axe, and the other three on his shield. Knocking them all aside, Nikodemus tried to strike once more, his axe barely catching the cloak of one thief, ripping it slightly. As the thieves broke from the current pass, Nikodemus began to circle them, his hand gripping the blade tigher and growling. "I won't miss next time! I swear it!"

As Hydra moved as quickly and silently as he could down the tunnel, the glowing of torch light made the area more visible with each step, and the sound of battling grew louder. Eventually the brunette caught sight of Nikodemus who was currently soaking the damage from four shady looking figures. Without hesitation the spearman darted forwards seizing the opportunity of his sudden appearance. Swinging back his left arm he prepared his most powerful and catastrophic sword art <Arahabaki>. With one fell swoop Lyrica's fang soared through the air shimmering brightly as it reflected the various colorful glows from the surrounding treasure and gems before leaving her mark. All four thieves were struck with such force they went spiraling through the air before crashing to the floor. Out of energy Hydra fell to his knee's and looked up to Nikodemus "Sorry im late... it's up to you now." He said with a grin and collapsed to the floor gasping for air.

Seeing Hydra strike the Thieves with a spectacular sword art, Nikodemus stood in awe. Seeing him collapse, Nikodemus quickly ran to him. Reaching him, he knelt down and checked on him. Seeing him alive and hearing him speak, Nikodemus nodded and then charged forward. Swinging his axe, he brought it forward, but his blade was met with the 4 blades of the wounded and weak thieves. They still had enough strength to force the armored giant's axe back. Growling, he forced them all back as hard as he could to put some room between them and him, and he put himself between Hydra and them.

Whilst low on energy Hydra could still muster some strength to try and heal his friend a measly 1 hit points. Slowly he dragged himself along the ground and reached out to try and grant some health to his friend. It seemed it was not enough however. The green glow diminished into nothing more than a wisp, "It probably wouldn't have made a difference..." Hydra mumbled to himself, dissapointed in his skill as a battle medic. Noticing Nikodemus miss with his axe Hydra managed to cough out "Don't let it phase you, your the best axe wielder I know!" The tone was cheerful despite the situation, Hydra could see his friend getting angry and if he couldn't support him on the battlefield and least he could from the sidelines.

Tired and weary, Nikodemus let the reins go on his anger, and sanity, for a moment. Feeling the ever familiar feeling of falling away, he leapt forward without a care. His axe began to glow the same sickly green color as it collided with the neck of one of the thieves. The energy released as the Sword Art <Lightning Axe> was activated, the energy forcing the blade to cut through the thief following the path of a lightning bolt. As he did so, the 4 thieves struck, their blades digging deep into him. With naught but a grunt, Nikodemus' armor effect <Thorns> activated once more and sent a pulse of energy through the thieves, turning them all into pixels. With a deep sigh, Nikodemus whispered the words of 'Elfen Lied' to himself. Regaining himself slightly, he turned and looked to Hydra.

"Are you ok Hydra?!" Trying to step forward, he notices the small jagged lightning symbol by his name in his HUD> Grumbling, he stood there and waited for the paralysis the Thieves had wrought on him to wear off. Looking to the cage, he saw Cassim trying to force the lock with no success."

"Nice!" Hydra said forcing himself into a standing position. The thieves exploding into crystals was like a satisfying firework show. Hydra let out a chuckle and picked up his weapon. There was a brief pause as he finally took in his surroundings... "Um... this is real treasure im seeing right." The brunette twisted his head in all directions, piles of gold here and there. If it weren't for the constant rattling the spearman would have easily looked over the cage. His attention half diverted on the gold, half on the strange man Hydra was left speechless unsure what to say or do, he had no idea what the pair had just uncovered.

Watching the Paralysis debuff symbol fade from his HUD, Nikodemus finally broke from the spot he was stuck to and walked to Hydra with a smile on his lips beneath his ornate metal helmet. "Yes. It is. A huge verdammt pile of the stuff. Jewels too. The gent in the cage and his brother found it. But it seems to be a thieves den, and he got caught. His brother hired me to come save him. Thankfully you arrived, or else me and those right vagabonds would still be poking one another for hours and hours. Oi! Enough racket! I'm coming! Sheesh!" With that, Nikodemus stormed over to the cage and looked at the lock. With one swift motion, his axe split iron lock in 2, sending the shards clattering across the floor. With the cage open, the young man steps out and bows repeated. "Thank you sirs! I am Cassim!"

Hydra stood with an awkward look on his face, this man was clearly not in a mental state of mind. Glancing over to Nikodemus Hydra shrugged with a puzzled expression on his face, after all he was still taking the whole situation in. Something was slightly off though, the brunette's insight was screaming to him that something was wrong with this man. Eventually he regathered his thoughts, "No need to apologize erm... Cassim. Do you mind telling us why you are here in a bandit's nest?" The spearman said this as he reached for some water and handed it over to the man who was probably starved and dehydrated. Perhaps Hydra's mind was just playing tricks, was this person really a danger? "I wonder what Nikodemus thinks of this whole situation..." the brunette pondered to himself.

((OOC: Holy Jeebus... That status thread is getting rediculous. I am losing notifications under notifications))

The man bowed once more and drank deeply from the bottle and then handed it back with a gasping breath. His cloths were tattered a bit, and his shoes showed signs of where he had kicked and scraped them along the wall. After a moment, he began to speak of the adventure that Nikodemus had heard from his brother back in Armadillo. "My brother, Ali, he came to me with a tale of a cave of riches. When I came back here with him, the cave was not here. In anger I turned back to town and was struck by a bandit as I had crested the dune. They tied me up and brought me here, carrying me like savages. Ali had fled, or hid, I know not. After a moment, I saw where I was and struggled to free myself from their grip, but they persisted and locked me here. For a day I was threatened and tortured. That pit there was to be my grave. I did everything. I begged and pleaded with them. Told them I knew nothing nor saw where they took me and would speak of this to no one. Yet they did not listen. Then, I tried to bargain with them. Gold, a ransom, anything. I said I had been lured here and told them I would trade my freedom and keep their secret. But they did not believe me about Ali and I... Oh."

Stopping his flow of babbled speech, Cassim clapped a hand over his dirt smudged mouth and let his eyes dart between the two. He hoped they hadn't heard what he said, but was unsure if they did or understood his rambling speech. Backing up slightly, Cassim tried to smile and bowed again. "Thank you again sirs. I am in debt. You saved me. Let us leave here." Trying to step away, he gripped his shirt with his hand, a glittering golden ring upon one finger.

Hydra took note of the mans sudden diversion of speech, unsure how to react the spearman looked towards Nikodemus with a worried expression on his face. As the man stood up the brunette caught sight of the ring, an interesting trinket for someone to be wearing dressed in ragged robes. Hydra still couldn't help but feel a little guilty as he stepped in front of the player, equipping his spear in his left hand he stopped Cassim in his tracks. "I hate to do this but I feel like your not telling us the whole story." With that he plunged his spear into Cassims leg ensuring he couldn't make a sudden attempt of running away. This was a quest, Hydra knew deep down it wouldn't be as simple as saving someone from a group of bandits. They needed to figure out the truth.

The lanky man stared at Hydra with wide eyes, the red pixelated blood floating through the air from his leg. With a yelp, he struggled on the spear and began to plead. Having stood there, the armored giant had his axe in a white knuckled grip. Taking his ornate helmet off, he let his fury filled icy blue eyes bore death into the ragged man. "What... Do you mean they did not believe you about Ali? WHAT DID YOU TELL THEM?!" Grabbing the thin man, he lifted him into the air with ease. Shaking and twitching in the giants grip, Cassim began to babble again. "Please no! I... I was trying to get free! They had seen Ali's footprints and were following them back to town. They then followed mine and Ali's back! When I was leaving, they had just arrived! They tortured me for Ali's name, and I tried to bargain my freedom with him! I am sooo sorry! It had to be done! In fact, they were getting ready to leave and find Ali when you came!!!!"

With the last sentence spilled, Nikodemus dropped the man to the ground. Cassim landed with a thud, wincing as his leg tried to catch his weight. Turning from the man, Nikodemus began to breathe deeply and cracked his neck. Cassim continued once more. "It couldn't be helped! It was me or him! What was i to do?!"

With a sudden roar, Nikodemus spun around, his axe arcing with deadly intent. The blade slide through the lanky man's neck, removing his head from his shoulders. As his eyes went lifeless, Nikodemus yelled at the deadman, losing himself in his anger. "YOU DON'T BETRAY THE TRUST OF YOUR BROTHER! YOU DON'T BETRAY THE TRUST OF ANYONE WHO LOOKS TO YOU! YOU SHOULD HAVE KEPT YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND KNEW THAT SOMEONE WOULD BE ALONG TO RESCUE YOU!" With that, Nikodemus kicked the body, causing it to burst into pixels along with the head. Screaming, Nikodemus fell to his knees and began to punch the stone floor. "I WOULD NEVER BETRAY MY FRIENDS, MY ALLIES, MY BROTHER!!!!"

One moment a traitor had stood before Hydra, the next his body had fallen to a crumbled ruin. A decapitated head rolling across the ground before finally bursting into crystals. Hydra quickly glanced between Nikodemus and the where the body had just been before finally coming out with. "Okay... I didn't expect that to happen." His tone of voice was weary, drained. The player was finding it difficult to understand what had just happened, was he dreaming? *Ping* "Huh..." A message appeared in front of the brunette, *You have been rewarded with <Cassim's Ring> and have obtained an orange cursor*, for a moment all fell silent in his mind, a faint whisper could be heard echoing, it was Hydra's voice whispering "Orange..." Slowly it got louder and louder until finally the spearman grabbed his head and fell to his knee's screaming, both he and Nikodemus were now killers, murderers and outcasts. All the darkness that he had quenched before at the waterfall of the sage came rushing back. Only time would tell how Hydra's story developed...

After a moment, Nikodemus reigned himself in once again. His mind was fracturing once more, and he needed to get back to his shop. Opening his eyes, he saw the prompt showing the ring being given and the orange cursor. Looking at his HUD, Nikodemus took a steadying breath as he saw the Orange mark next to his name, and Hydra's. Turning his head, he saw Hydra on the ground, struggling and screaming. With horror, he stood and moved to Hydra, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Hydra. I... I didn't know. I am so sorry! I..." As he was about to speak more, the sound of metal whispering through the air caught his attention. Turning, he saw 2 thieves standing just a few feet away, standing in the pantomime of sneaking. The folly had been not approaching with blades pre-drawn. They gave their stealth up for lack of forethought.

With a roar of anger, Nikodemus brought his axe back behind him. The blade turned a sickly emerald color as the energy of a Sword Art was stored. Hurling the blade like a boomerang, he activated his <<Tomahawk Thrust >> Sword Art. The blade spun wildly through the air, then sliced through both thieves in a quick arcing slash. Rebounding, it came back to Nikodemus hand. With a roar of defiance, Nikodemus held his shield before him and stood between the thieves and Hydra. "I won't let you passed! You'll not attempt to attack a man when he is down, nor will I let you harm my friend! I am no coward like Cassin!"

"Killer... murderer..." "MAKE IT STOP PLEASE!" Hydra whimpered, he seemed to be stuck within his own mind completely oblivious to his current surroundings and the fight that had developed. "You thought you could escape it, but you cannot escape the truth..." The voices echoed within the darkness surrounding him. "No... no...NO!" he felt as though a shadow had engulfed him, before everything suddenly stopped in silence...

"Ha...haha...haha" Hydra suddenly seemed to be laughing quietly to himself as his senses returned. Finally looking up his blue eye color had turned dull and depressed, although it looked as there were some kind of hunger to them. "Sorry..." He looked towards Nikodemus and then to the thieves giving a solemn lonely smile to the combatants. Picking up his spear Hydra then randomly stabbed himself in his hand. "I haven't felt this way in years... alive." he mumbled letting out a more depressed laugh this time. "Huh, that's right... I haven't got long" the brunette said his gaze slowly turning towards Nikodemus "...Let's make this quick..." Hydra's attitude had completely changed from before, the energy about him seemed withered and decayed, he spoke more slowly but with a slightly sinister and depressed tone of voice. He looked sad and at the same time someone burning with the passion to spill blood and destroy.

Suddenly in a blur the spearman darted forwards aiming at the thief closest to him. Showing no remorse he aimed his spear at all the vital organs, piercing the figure ten times over before retreating. Disappointed that he hadn't done quite enough to kill the enemy he simply looked at them with his cold blood thirsty stare and prepared for the next assault.

Charging in, Nikodemus brought his blade around in an attempt to remove the head of the wounded thief. His axe came in on target, but the second thief had slide his arm around Nikodemus' and the blade of his dagger connected with the blade of Nikodemus' axe, stopping it's trajectory and redirecting it down and away. Growling, Nikodemus swiped his axe once again at the second thief, but it ducked and then both thieves leapt in to strike. Batting both daggers aside with his shield, Nikodemus was pressed to back up, his armored shoulders clanging as they slammed into the rock wall behind him.

Raising his spear Hydra darted into battle again. This time the thief seemed to read his moves and managed to dodge out the way in time. "How do I kill you?" The brunette thought to himself. Glancing over to Nikodemus neither of them could land a hit. Slowly Hydra lifted up his weapon and pointed it towards the thief he had struck before. "Tell me, are you players or generated by this game?" His tone of voice was as serious as the deadly glint in his eyes. In the end he knew it wouldn't matter, only one pair of players were leaving this room alive.

With a rage, Nikodemus focused his anger on the healthier of the two thieves. Charging his <Guillotine> Sword Art, Nikodemus lunged in. Swinging his blade hard, the axe connected to the side of the thieves head, slicing it open with a large gash and stunning the thief. Not seeing beyond his battle rage, Nikodemus didn't realize until to late that both thieves had struck him with their dagger, the blades glowing pale yellow. Grunting, he was pushed back a step. Attempting to move forward to slay the wounded thief, Nikodemus once more realized with annoyance he had been stunned. Cursing darkly, he fought against the paralysis, but it did him no good.

Hydra lashed out again aiming for the thief's throat, the figure ducked before rolling behind Nikodemus who had seemingly entered a berserk rage. "Hmm...". The other thief then unmasked themselvesa woman with long black hair and scarlet eyes stared him down beneath the mask. "What if we are players." She whispered in a sweetly sick tone. Hydra looked at her with distaste, "You bring suffering to those deemed lesser than you. Scum like you don't deserve to live..." All he needed was to land the next hit and her life would be nothing more than a ruin.
