  4. Sin scowled. Her expression softened. For the first time since anyone had known her, she looked quite sheepish. She didn’t know whether to be grateful for Vitalis’ kind words or to be irritated that he’d seen through her so easily. She didn’t get the opportunity to weigh those options though. Lysette quickly threw her arm around Sin’s shoulder, hugging her close. “Yeah! You kept it cool. I was honestly a little worried when I saw all the monkeys. Like…” She paused, pursing her lips as she tried to find the words. “I knew they weren’t all that strong. But there were just so many. It was a
  5. Lysette was hot on Sin’s heels. It was probably overkill, using Vanish. That was her first thought, at least. When she realized that it reduced her damage just low enough that the stronger monkeys were able to survive, she cursed her decision. But couldn’t they just switch to the Witch? The dots would kill the monkeys, after all? Lysette quickly realized that the Witch was untargetable. Probably protected by some unseen ability that the monkeys had. Though she hated to do it, she needed to open the way for Abellio. So she wasted her second attack from Haste on the almost-dead monkeys. Not
  6. “Lowbies” was, of course, subjective. As far as actual levels went, Abellio and Lysette were on up there. Not nearly as high as Oscar, but tied for second place. But Warren was lower than they were. In levels, specifically. He didn’t carry himself like one, though. After all, he just stood there and took a stream of fire from a dragon without a care in the world. And it was that cold professionalism that made Sin fail to make that particular connection. It didn’t just mean low-level. It needed a certain unflappability in the face of danger. Lysette was probably closer in that me
  7. Lysette had been the first to realize it. How despite the danger of the death game they were in, it was so easy for this group - this nascent Guild - to find moments of bliss like these. She was grateful for every single moment that she was able to spend with these people. Every laugh and tear and smile and every anxious heartbeat. She didn’t care that it was all virtual. It wouldn’t be forever. And when she got out, she would have the resources to find them all again. Assuming her family didn’t spend all of her money while she was stuck here. This was real. And it was hers. The fami
  8. While Abellio celebrated, Lysette had already vanished into the shadows. And as he advanced, she was in his shadow. Abellio struck fast and hard, Lysette surged forward. Not to attack at first. The dragon was a wily boss. She whipped her tail around, trying to bat Abellio away at the end of his assault. She spun her spear in her hand, flicking the tip down and then back up, batting away the dragon’s tail. It let out a roar of pain as her poisons seared through its veins. Lysette quickly placed one hand on Abellio’s shoulder, flipping up and over his head. Using him as a springboard, she p
  9. “Guys!” Lysette called from the top of the wall. She held her hand over her brow, leaning forward as she peered off into the distance. “I found the tower! You coming?” Oscar looked up, placing his hands on his hips as she turned around to look down at them. “How did you get up there?” Lysette shrugged. “Haven’t you guys played Mario? Figure it out.” Five more sets of wall jumps later, they had all made it to the top of the labyrinth. It was quite surreal up here, the winding walls turning in on one another. A different sort of maze, if you stuck to the beaten path. The
  10. Lysette and Abellio arrived on Floor 25 a full hour after the message was sent. When they stepped off of the Teleport Platform, Lysette was glowing. Looking smug, pleased with herself. Like the cat who ate the canary. Abellio was in her ear, whispering. His arm around her waist, his attention enraptured. They had arrived, in name only. “Sorry we’re late,” Lysette said. Her tone indicated that she wasn’t in the least bit sorry. Abellio finally pulled himself away from her, beaming at the assembled group. “Where’s Vitalis,” he asked. No excuses, no platitudes. Either it didn’t register
  11. Lysette nodded, lending her own eyes to the search. She’d only just begun investing into her own Searching skill. And it was certainly nowhere near maxed out. She didn’t have much more luck than Sin had. But then again, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they didn’t find any more. The quest was already insanely rewarding - anything else that they managed to locate would just be the cherry on top. So it didn’t really bother her overmuch. But she could tell that Sin was getting frustrated. Lysette pursed her lips, thinking. She wasn’t exactly certain why her friend thought that she needed to
  12. There was only Sand Dollar left. Without missing a beat, Lysette stepped forward. Stalking towards the creature, she absent-mindedly spun her spear in her hand. She stopped in front of it, stopping her twirling as the spear pointed down. She thrust down, killing the creature instantly. It let out a death shriek, coiling and failing before finally shattering just like everything else that the group had killed today. “It’s ‘kay Sin,” she said. “These things are hella slippery.” She didn’t want to rub salt in it - quite the opposite, really. They were objectively hard to hit. Small size
  13. In an instant, Lysette vanished from view. Dark tendrils wound around her body, shadows obfuscating her frame. When Lysette first thought to take the Hiding skill, she had thought that it would be useful to keep her out of fights. Keep to the shadows. Run from the conflict. She found, however, that the conflict was far too thrilling to deny. She was strong in this world. Stronger than she could have ever hoped to be. And it was hers. Earned. Fought for. Just like everything else. She took off like a bolt, riding the shadows to her target. An unseen hand sought Abellio’s hand. Fingers entw
  14. Everything had happened so fast for Lysette. It wasn’t long ago that she was dancing for pocket change before the fountain in the Town of Beginnings. She was happy then, if not a little lonely. Lysette had been able to court her first love. Bring life and light to those who witnessed her perform. But now? It was almost too difficult to track. Her life could not be more different. A home. Confidence. Strength, competence, and a goal. And a man on her arm that she adored with every bit of her heart and soul. Even now, that warm smile of his was nothing but infectious. Hanging
  15. “So about that oral hex-” Heat rushed to Lydia's face instantly. It was hard to play the part, here in his arms. She didn't have to put on airs for Abellio. Didn't need to pretend to be confident or go out of her way to be sexy. She could just... be. No mask, no character. Lydia could take center stage without fear, lay Lysette to rest and simply let Abellio's warmth melt her. Even now, even after she'd done what she had done and said what she had said - wrote a check as Lysette that Lydia would need to cash - he was still so warm. Still smiling. And before, she'd feel rebuffed. As if Abe
  16. Lysette hadn’t really known what to expect when the song began. But by the time they had got into it proper, she could tell that her duet partner was a very skilled musician. His own personal flair had been sublime. His voice even more so. Though she wished that he might have leaned a bit more into it. They finished their number far more quickly than she would have hoped. It was a rare pleasure to find such a fantastic duet partner. Their number was met with a smattering of applause. Lysette noticed that the crowd had thinned somewhat. Perhaps they were availing themselves of the Upper Rooms?
  17. Lydia had only just finished her song when she was approached by Jomei. She had mentioned to Oscar that she could use someone who was skilled with a guitar, but she hadn’t really expected him to go so far in providing that someone. She quickly held up a finger, turning to the crowd. She was in the zone right now. Professionalism overriding social courtesy. It felt wrong to have an intermission so early into her set, but no one told her that she was going to have help and that she’d need a moment to teach the chords. “You guys have been a great audience! Give me just one sec and we’ll get
  18. Second Song - Lights Out by bludnymph Oscar truly knew how to cultivate a vibe. Dark and mysterious was his raison d'être. But this was on a whole other level. She’d not expect this sort of turn-out, but it also didn’t bother her. Lydia had a wealth of experience performing for crowds much larger than this one. Although, none were quite so intimate. It almost made her wish Sam was here. Though, he might have found himself quite uncomfortable. Abellio was not the civilized sort of Player. She wagered that he would sooner hang himself with a neck tie than wear one. The music bega
  19. With music on the air and mostly automated, Lydia decided to find her way back to her friends. She left a few crystals on the deck, setting them to shuffle before removing her headphones and stepping away. The machine that Oscar had created was beginning to hum, to run itself. So there was no harm in actually enjoying herself for a moment. Weaving through the crowd, she spied that blazing red hair from across the way. Her pace increased, her sandals padding softly over the sand as she approached the group that had congregated in the corner. She approached Abellio from behind and wrapped her ar
  20. Well Oscar was on his shit. Not surprising. A group this big was bound to have some crossed wires here or there. Of course the host would need to actively regulate. She felt bad though. He'd put on all this effort and couldn't even enjoy his own party. She thought back to a brief conversation she'd had with Warren before they moved everything here and the silent pact they'd made while they made the preparations. It just wasn't right that he had to basically be on bouncer duty. Especially when there were the three of them who could just as easily do it for him. Lydia, naturally, could
