Mortambo takes a deep breath after defeating this last Nepent. "This must be a pretty rare drop...I guess this could really take a while," he thinks. He gets a worried frown on his face and continues, "I just hope I can make it back in time to save that lady. I know she's just an NPC, but I can't help but be worried about it." He waits for his health to slowly refill and sets off to find another Little Nepent.

As he enters a clearing, he sees three of the plants scattered around. He tries to approach one and all three hiss and their vines shoot out towards him. He slashes the first set away and dodges the others thinking to himself "Great, what have I gotten myself into now?"

The vines try to wrap around him, but Mortambo just throws them off. He grunts as he parries the vines second round of attacks and stays within the plants reach. He slashes at the main body of the plant, trying to end this fight quickly. "It's you or me, now, Little Nepent. But I'm done giving up ground!" he exclaims.

"Or not..." Mortambo thinks as his strike misses the mark. The plant lets out another hiss and both vines come in to wrap around him, but he manages to narrowly leap back out of the way. "Damn, that was close, I've got to try something else," he thinks and rushes forward slashing at both vines as he pierces the main body with a forward thrust.

The plant hisses angrily at Mortambo, and the vines whip out slashing him hard 3 times. "Wow, that really hurt!" Mort thinks as his health drops. He stumbles back but recovers quickly and dodges the rest of the whirling vines to strike again at the main body of the plant. As he raises his sword in another overhand strike he thinks "This is it!"

As Mortambo struggles to get his sword free, the plants other vine savagely slashes at him, but he manages to dodge at the last moment. The plant hisses and he struggles with his sword, finally pulling it free. Mortambo quickly slashes at the vine that was holding it.

((Still using old gear until the end of this thread))

As Mortambo dodges the vines, one of them manages to slash his arm. The plant hisses as it feels the contact with something solid and the vines speed up as they slash through the air at Mortambo. He focuses on waiting for the perfect moment to strike the center mass of the plant for a killing blow, and tries to perform the overhand strike that killed the last plant.

A vine shoots out and stops the overhand strike in midair grabbing at Mortambo's sword!

Mortambo travels deeper into the forest, and finally encounters another Nepent. Ready this time for it actually being alive he takes a measured swing at it's body before it has time to get its vines up to protect itself. After he swings the plant hisses and tries to swipe at him with vines which he dodges easily. "Second times a charm, right? So good so far!" he thinks to himself.

Battle Result: Hit! 2 damage!

Mortambo puts his sword away as the plant explodes in a shower of blue shards and drops to the ground. "What a tough battle. I already need to rest. I guess I'm not as strong as I thought, whew," he says to himself. After a few minutes his out of combat healing kicks in and his health fills back up to full. He stands and says "All right, let's go find more of those Little Nepent's, I'm ready!"

Mortambo takes another bite before replying,"I'm not really sure. I'd love to see the 8th floor where you fight with the Assault Team, but that might be too dangerous for me. Do you have any favorite spots down here? Places you thought were really awesome and beautiful?" He takes another bite and a sip of his lemonade, and chews slowly, seeming to think to himself. "Or I heard about some rock monsters up in the mountains," he smiles at her and then takes another bite of his sandwich, "I'm a little weak to fight them alone, but I could use the crafting materials...if you don't mind tagging along with a newbie."

Mortambo savagely slices through the vine, and the stump pulls back. The other vine writhes in the air and slashes him across the face. Mortambo stumbles back again, and steadies his stance. "Okay, let's try this one more time, a final blow and this will be done!" He focuses for a second and then does a two handed overhead strike on the main body of the Little Nepent.

Battle Result: Critical Strike! 4 damage!

Mortambo: 5/11

Mortambo's strike slices through the main body of the plant and does massive damage!

The second vine swipes at his legs, but Mortambo manages to jump over it. The plant hisses angrily again. He struggles to free himself from the vine, and finally takes another swing at it. "Great it is tightening its grip. I need to get free of this soon!" he thinks to himself.

Mortambo takes a bite of his sandwich and then excitedly takes a huge bite of about a quarter of it. When Ruri asks him what he thinks he looks up at her with his cheeks puffed out like a squirrel and tries to say something. "Oops..." he apologizes as he drops crumbs on himself. He quickly chews and swallows the mouthful he had and replies "It's SO delicious. Thank you!! And uh, sorry about that, it was quite rude of me." He takes his next bite much more gingerly, and savors it.

The plant hisses angrily again its vines writhing in the air. One of the vines lashes out and wraps around Mortambo's hand, the thorns tearing into his flesh. Mortambo grunts and swings at the vine holding him, trying to get himself free. He thinks "If it grabs my legs I am done for!"

Battle Result: Critical Failure!

The other vine easily bats Mortambo's sword away.

Mortambo shakes his head, "Unfortunately no. I've led a pretty boring life so far. Just hunting. I haven't really taken the time to stop and relax." He smiles as he continues "Maybe that is my problem. Usually in games I am so focused on leveling and questing that when I want to relax I just log off. Not being able to log off means I need to find some way to relax here, inside the game." He sits back for a moment and considers this. "A sandwich and some lemonade sounds great. I hope it's good here!" he says as he grins across the table at Ruri. "Is it weird to be so excited about not having to just eat the same old bread?"

The plant seems to calm down a little since Mortambo missed, and the vines don't come for him nearly as quickly. Mortambo easily dodges them this time, and takes a moment to catch his breath and refocus. "I can't just go in wildly swinging, that obviously doesn't work at all. Focus, and strike!" he thinks as he takes a calculated swing at the main body of the plant.
