  1. It took a few minutes to register that Adelyn had been tugging at his arm; he'd been so caught up in the cityside view, soaking up the sunny sight as if the scene were a pool, and his eyes a pair of sponges. Perhaps he'd believed that he could absorb the pleasantness of the day through osmosis, but in any case, Adelyn had already scampered off by the time his wits had returned to him.

A spirited breeze came rolling in, tousling both the girl's hair, as well as his own. Azide brought up a hand to keep the feral strands in check as he watched the other girl make a run for the railing. A low chuckle escaped him as he concluded that if this girl were to have any phobias, a fear of heights would probably not be one of them. But as amusing as this little epiphany was, it occurred to him that he should probably get a move on- he didn't want her getting lost again, after all.

Putting a little more hustle in his bustle, Azide caught up soon after and took his place by the girl's side. He rested his palms against the the top of the railing and leaned forward to peer out of the edge, scrunching his eyes shut as the wind picked up. With both of his hands occupied, the warm gust blew his hair unfettered in every which way- but it did not feel unpleasant. Even as a scatter of falling leaves alighted atop his crown, he made no effort to shake them loose.

"If this were a movie, I'd probably have something really memorable to say right now," said Azide, breaking the silence. He shifted himself slightly, so that his forearms were now perched atop the balustrade. "Maybe something witty, or something funny- maybe even something deep. Who knows?" With a dip of his head, he sighed before glancing sidelong at Adelyn. "Feel free to check, but I'm pretty sure I don't have anything like that up these sleeves of mine," he added, with a simper and a shake of his cuff.

  2. The smile on his lips remained as he nodded so fully that the gesture could have been mistaken for a bow. "In that case, I think I know just the place," said Azide, motioning once again for the girl to follow his lead. This time around, however, he made a conscious effort not to get too far ahead either himself or (perhaps more importantly) his company. It was a nice change of pace, he thought, to be doing something more mundane for once. Usually, when he met people here, they were always wanting to fight boar and the like; not that he minded helping, of course. He'd once headed a guild which had specialized in assisting with things of that nature, after all. But something about this was comforting- and on second thought, it was not exactly mundane either. It was pleasant.

As they ascended the flight of stairs, Azide glanced over his shoulder just to keep an eye on his guest, only to catch his foot against the top of the next step. On reaction, a hand shot out to grasp at the railing, and he managed to steady himself before anything worse could come from the little stumble. "Careful with these steps. Somebody must have just finished mopping them or something," he said, not looking back.

From the stairway, the two emerged onto the rooftop of the cafe, with a thick sheet of glass set in the center. Up here, it was almost entirely quiet, and he watched as a few leaves rustled over the sunlight centerpiece. Around the edges ran inconspicuous railings which allowed an unobstructed view of the city. "Hope you don't have a fear of heights," said Azide, gesturing to a table that faced the bustling square.

  3. The mottled face of the sandy edifice towered above him in a way which was quite literal, forcing him to crane his neck ever higher just to catch a glimpse of the tallest spires stretching endlessly above. All things considered, the structure could be no higher than the many skyscrapers he had once passed by with regularity. And yet from where he stood, the Cathedral of Taft seemed larger and grander than the whole lot combined. Indeed, even the lowliest of steeples gave the impression of reaching into the very heavens themselves. He wondered what it meant- that today, those heavens had taken on the mantle of an angry grey.

The humbling sight soon became a blur in his eyes, and he raised a hand to shield himself from the falling droplets. Against his coat, the cold spheres broke with little fanfare, but made up for it in their persistence. Against the heavyset double doors, rain came knocking with a vengeance. Against the limestone basilica, it splattered without relent, filling the air with a steady torrent of splishes and splashes.

By now, the downpour had become too heavy, too unforgiving. His lightly tousled hair had become slick and matted, and a thin sheen coated his pale complexion. Beads of water dripped from the end of his brown locks and outlined his jaws in translucent streams before trailing off the point of his chin. Azide shivered as the dampness filled his lungs with a chill, and as he inhaled slowly through his nose, he felt as if he were trying to breathe during a particularly icy shower. Each shallow stuttered breath felt more like a gasp, and the air felt thin and unsatiating in his chest. The young man laid his hand bare against the gate, and where supple skin met ancient wood, scatterings of a heavy sky cascaded over now clammy fingers. Against the outstretched limb, he leaned forward, head bowed as the rain dribbled down his slender frame.

With a sigh, he conceded that today seemed as good a day as any to claim sanctuary. Azide latched a stiff hand around a worn metal handle and struck thrice against the great double doors. A low rumble signaled for the soaked player to step back as the lumbering gates lurched open.

  4. The burger had been decent, but not excellent- perhaps a solid three stars out of five; to be fair, however,, that particular sandwich had been commissioned nearly half a year ago. If it weren't for the explicit absence of such a thing in Aincrad, he would've sworn that it was by magic that the item had remained edible. He made a mental note to give his kudos to the chef, if he were to ever run across Alyss again. Like many others, the girl had faded from the public eye after a point, and he had neither seen nor heard from her since then.

On the other hand, he was glad to see so many faces here today which had not disappeared- and not only because it implied a higher chance of survival in the coming raid. Of the assembled crowd, he was admittedly most familiar with the group which contained Calrex, Ariel and Rebekah. Rounding out the squad was a red-haired girl carrying what appeared to be a katana; he was not particularly familiar with this player, although he felt as if he'd seen her around in the past.

"Kiru," called Azide. He waved weakly as he made his way towards the girl with the two-toned hair, reminded that he himself had been assigned to a group. On some level, there was a bit of resentment on his part that these efforts had been so totally dominated by the Azure Brigade- he did not forget which guild would've likely been leading this raid had things gone more accordingly on the tenth floor. He shook the thought from his head as he came to a stop next to the commandant, noticing how intently she stared at the double doors. "I reviewed the plans we received from Zelrius, and it looks like you'll be leading our group today. I wish you the best of luck- there are rumors that this guy will be the toughest one yet.  And hopefully, we can manage to sneak by without too many casualties." A casual smile had painted his face throughout, and yet the last few words had tempered it slightly.

  5. As the double doors swung open, I peeked inside the room and saw that Adelyn was still standing there- presumably waiting for me to catch up. In a way, it reminded me of how how normal life in Aincrad could be at times; it was charming, in a way, that old habits and social norms often transferred over into this world. I could only assume that she wasn't waiting for some arbitrary reason, such as a lack of seating- there were a few open tables right in front of the windows. So it seemed only natural that the reason was a more human one.

With a smile, I entered the cafe and walked up to Adelyn, letting the door close slowly behind me. My eyes swept the sleek and modern interior of the room, catching sight of the many patrons who had chosen to visit today. I spotted a line of players seated atop stools in front of a bar and watched for a brief moment as two of them chatted quietly while another made friendly conversation with the bartender. My eyes soon drifted to the row of tables that ran down the backmost wall, where a group of friends were laughing wildly- perhaps at some funny joke, while other patrons shot them funny looks before going back to their own conversations. Others still were seated alone, reading newspapers or books while sipping on their mugs and cups.

Finally, my eyes came back to Adelyn, and I thought she looked a little different in here. It was hard to put my finger on it- maybe it was just the atmosphere of the place. Not wanting to stare, I glanced away at a flight of stairs in the corner. "I know I said that I'd take you here, but I'm actually feeling a little hungry." I looked back to the blonde hair girl, as a couple dressed in full armor walked by. "And since I'm already here, would you care to grab some lunch together?"

  6. From behind the rock, Azide dragged a sleeve across his glistening brow before rustling his slightly-too-warm coat. "Easier said than done."

Although he believed that it was within the realm of possibility that Cerberus could smell fear, he took comfort in the fact that his own perspiration was also a result of the toasty temperatures of the Inferno Cavern. "Hopefully that dampens the effect..." he thought, clutching a health crystal in a trembling hand. He took ahold of the shaking wrist with the fingers of his opposite hand in an effort to keep it still. "Must be the damn arthritis acting up again..."

As he'd been hiding out of sight for the entirety of Takao's tussle with the multi-headed mutt, the young man's efforts had gone very much unappreciated. Instead, Azide had simply heard a bunch of rolling around. By the time he'd peeked out from his cover, all he'd seen was a glimpse of a fallen Cerberus shortly before it shattered into a crystal menagerie. As the carcass dispersed, his eyes drifted over to greet a notification window which had popped up, informing him that a Cerberus Soul had been added to his inventory.

He stepped out cautiously from behind the stalagmite and took two quick glances around the area before settling into a casual stroll. Azide slid his hands into his pockets, discreetly hiding his crystal from view as he approached Takao. With their task finally completed, his stomach rolled like thunder or a three-headed dog, reminding him of just how starved he really was. "We haven't eaten in at least two days now," he sighed. Looking back towards the entrance, he motioned for the other boy to follow him. "Come on, let's go get some dinner or something."

With the briefest of conversations having come to a close, he listened as Ariel reviewed their plan of action; as the girl spoke, he looked beyond her at the four shining suits of armor standing in the distance; behind these pinocchio-esque knights loomed an iron giant, whose immensity in relation to its more modest company was comparable to an aircraft carrier in the midsts of several destroyers.

Azide nodded as he was designated to engage the Iron Guardian itself, while Takao and Jomei were tasked with dispatching its underlings. By now, their group had made enough progress to come within sprinting distance of the enemy, and he bowed his head to the party leader. "Ladies first," he said, as Ariel drew her rapier. With the sun hanging unflinchingly overhead, he raised a hand to block the bold rays and watched under their meager cover as the young lady hurtled forward before scoring a monstrous hit. Meanwhile, Takao arrived before his own targets a mere moment later, and eviscerated all four knights in a single sequence.

With the dexterity of a pianist, Azide flipped open the leather pouch at his hip and slipped his fingers around the dagger's grip. "Sorry Jomei, but this one's about to go down as well," he called, plucking the blade from its sheath as his sights locked onto the towering figure. He charged straight at the Iron Guardian, figuring that a slight boost in damage couldn't hurt- even if it would be unnecessary under most conditions. As he stepped within striking distance of his target, Chemikaze inherited a red glow, and he prepared himself for what was to come.

In the next instant, metal collided against metal in a dizzying whirlwind assault. Azide's dagger nipped away at the giant's armor with increasing ferocity, sending sparks into the air as he spun like a grindstone against its iron legs. As the motions began to reach their conclusion, a rumbling groan emerged from somewhere in the hollow suit as the Guardian's legs were severed at the point they'd been struck. The metal greaves shattered first into a cloud of pixelated blue, followed shortly after by the toppled giant himself.

  8. Welcome Mythic! Two days is a long time to be holding out on us- we could've been reading wonderful material a whole 48 hours earlier, haha.

Anyway, I would definitely recommend going ahead and finding a few people to help you get started; I think it's a good idea to just begin the RP-ing here while your interest is strong. There are plenty of very pleasant people here, and I'm sure you'll find more than a few you'll enjoy writing with.

In any case, shoot me a PM sometime if you're ever in the mood (for RP-ing, of course) and we'll see where to go from there!

  9. "I'm guessing these are the doors we're not supposed to touch," observed Azide, as he walked up and pretended to rap his knuckles against the colossal wooden structures.

With a soft chuckle and a shake of his head, he stepped away and waved at Calrex before nodding at the several other players whom had already arrived prior. Most of the faces were familiar- if only somewhat, though admittedly he did not recognize the scarfed one wielding the two-hander. Even then, there was still a bit of time before the raid would commence; how many others had yet to show up when all was to be said and done? He could only hope that the number would be a reassuring one.

At times, it'd felt as if it would never come- and yet, here it was: the day of the raid. This was the day they would stand before the Forsaken Crusader. There was, of course, a certain voice in his head which felt the need to remind him of the impending danger that awaited them within the closed double doors. At the same time, however, he found the feeling of dread was quickly being shoved down into the back of his mind. In its place, a sense of exhilaration bubble up in its place. It was a strange thought that seemed to be at odds with the gravity of their situation, but he felt energetic, and growing more excited as the moments ticked down.

Azide unwrapped the foiled sandwich he'd kept in his pocket and discarded the dull foil wrapper, before taking a small bite of the gourmet burger. It was cold, and not even a food he particularly enjoyed, but beggars could not be choosers. As he continued to munch away at his food, he considered the significance of the day.

Finally, he would redeem himself for his untimely desertion in the efforts against Yamato no Orochi. The time for running was would soon be nothing but a memory. In each hand, he revealed two crystals of two different tints: one a crimson red, and the other a blood orange. As he crushed the alchemical artifacts in parallel, their effects immediately began to make themselves apparent...

  11. "Wow," said Azide, as he poked his head through the door. He swept his eyes around the warm interior, and took notice of the rustic decor. Overall, it was the sort of feel he might expect from a bed and breakfast sort of place- or perhaps a classic southern style diner. But then again, he had no experience with either, so these conclusions were more or less baseless. "What a swell place you've got here, Takao." He pumped his arm in a manner that was just a tad lacking in enthusiasm, before dropping the act as he made his way to the counter. "Don't spend it all in one place, buddy," he remarked, as 500 col was added to the shopkeeper's funds. He palmed a soda can of some sort and turned it over to inspect the label, before departing the Himawari Cafe.

  12. With the last of his notes jotted down, Azide pulled a binder from off of his shelf and inserted the page at the very end, before stowing the whole thing away. "Sorry it took so long," Azide spoke, rubbing the back of his head. "Anyway, I'd usually offer only the finest quality items at my disposal, but I hope you'll still get some milage out of this mixed bag," he said, gesturing to the three red crystals lying atop the counter. He opened a trade window and sent Rebekah the trio of alchemical crafts; all three looked virtually identical, aside from slight differences in transparency.

"And before you ask, they're on the house," he added with a smile.

  14. While Rebekah waited by the front, he grabbed a broom from the back room and swept the floors of the lab up and down with surgical precision. By the time he'd finished tidying up, one would be hard pressed to find a speck or spot which hadn't been placed there intentionally. "I usually don't have company over while I work," said Azide, slipping on his crafting gloves. He stepped up to the counter and set aside a combination of seven beakers and flasks, then pulled open several drawers from a nearby cabinet. "But I'll make an exception, in this case."

For a while, little more was said as Azide focused his attention primarily on alchemy, albeit with occasional glances at the lab's only other occupant. He hoped he'd been discreet. But as for the crafting itself, there was a definite feeling of rustiness- it had been a long time since he'd been at the alchemical business, and it showed somewhat in his final results.

Of the seven trials, one had produced a flawless crystal, while a second and third had produced two crystals of increasingly lower quality. If things had stopped here, then perhaps he could have passed off the results as quite reasonable- but instead, two beakers had exploded entirely, scattering shards of glass all across the shop. Luckily, neither of the two players had been hit by the shrapnel, but he had avoided the girl's eyes for a few minutes after the second incident.

"After I finish recording my observations, I'll be happy to let you take home what I've managed to create today," offered Azide, as he pulled out a pen and paper.

  15. After much deliberation, Azide sighed as he relinquished Chemikaze from the pouch he'd kept concealed on his person. A brilliant light cloaked the humble dagger, bathing it in a white glow; in the moment that followed, the knife had vanished. In all honesty, he would have felt more at ease with the knowledge that his weapon was only an arm's reach away- with the volatility brought about by the Sword Arts system, every second was more significant than ever. And not only that, but even the mobs had grown more formidable than they'd been in the past.

"But if I were to be caught with this..." he thought, not needing to finish the thought. After taking a few minutes to memorize the exact position of the dagger within his inventory, he rolled his shoulders before stepping into the teleportation gate.

  16. Azide took a deep breath of the dry air as he lifted himself up from his knees. "In a matter of speaking..." he said, flexing his fingers slowly. He looked up from his hands and saw that his health bar now stood at less than half of its usual capacity. It was a humbling sight, to say the least, considering that his health bar hadn't hit yellow since his very first day outside of the safe zones. On one hand, he could simply pull himself up by the bootstraps, and soldier on as if nothing were amiss. On the other, he was not willing to throw his life away to inflate his own ego.

He turned to address Takao, but caught sight of more than he'd been expecting. On the opposite end of the chamber stood a dark and massive body, drenched from head to toe in wild flames. The injured player watched as the creature opened each of its three mouths one by one and released a staggered series of fearsome roars, which made the whole chamber rumble and shake. The whole sequence prompted Azide to steady himself by way of a nearby stalagmite.

When the threatening gesture had died down, Azide removed himself from the creature's sights and stood behind the rocky structure. "Hey, Takao- how about you go ahead and take the first shot? I'll mop up afterwards if you can't stand the heat," he called out, attempting to throw his voice to anywhere else but the safety of his stalagmite.

  17. One by one, his fingers relinquished their grip upon the rapier, until at last his hold on its handle gave out altogether. Azide did not move nor speak as the blade fell to the ground with a metallic clatter. If he had possessed the frame of mind to the fallen weapon's descent, he would have seen the way the blade had flopped uselessly against the cold cave floor, but instead he had been spared the sorry sight. The adrenaline which had become his blood had come and gone, taking with it the last precious ounces of energy which had allowed him the illusion of functionality. It would be a long while before such a weapon could once again feel at home in his hands.

A single col was returned to his funds as Rebekah canceled the trade request, and he waited for the inevitable. In a way, he wanted to hear it- a tirade of sentiment that would wipe clean the bad blood of five months past. It was almost inevitable that both she and Crozeph would harbor at least a twinge of resentment, and he would not deny them the right to express it. He had failed them in the face of a grave threat, and there would be no more running away. But instead, the girl remained silent. He wondered what she was thinking.

Then as Calrex spoke up, he listened to the man as best as he could, drowning out the unrelated sighs and whispers of entities unseen and incorporeal. Azide's weary eyes did not shift as he curved his lips into a thin smile. "It's been a real doozy, to say the least." Then as Calrex continued, Azide gave a slight tilt of his head upon mention of Oikawa's disappearance. "Seijuro is... gone?" he asked, blinking slowly as the words departed his lips.

Before his morale could take another plunge, he turned around in a daze as a sound like crashing thunder exploded out from behind him. For an instant, his eyes opened wide as a man stepped out from the swirling void, dressed from head to toe in garments of white and clutching a shimmering rapier. It was Oikawa- looking very much the same as he'd looked many months ago. Exactly the same, in fact.

In the blink of an eye, Oikawa closed the distance which had separated them; but rather than reflecting on the cold smirk plastered across the man's face, Azide found himself reflected upon a polished blade as The Faint Edge was driven forward no more a couple of centimeters away from his own cheek.

  18. The peace had been picturesque; it was a feeling that he could get used to. Between everything that had transpired over the last few months, along with the long list of errands he'd chipped away in more recent times, days like these had been few and far between. And even though the knotted wooden frame of his chair was just a touch too stiff for his liking, he leaned further back and closed his eyes. Azide had never identified as a particularly bold man, but at that moment he was enjoying himself too much to care- he lifted his legs and allowed them to rest atop his desk, just this once. This was a day for celebration.

He closed his eyes and began to hum along to the melody of If You Leave Me Now. Just as he'd begun to sing along to the music in his head, a sudden ping made his eyes flutter open and his arms flail about, clawing at the air as his seat tipped over backwards. Meanwhile, Lucifer the snake slithered right over him, as if challenging him to do something about it.

    "Ugh..."
